WTNV Quick Rundown - 76 - An Epilogue
In just a few days the whole story will be known. This is what happens after. Welcome to Night Vale.
This episode is an epilogue to the events in The Novel (see wtnv the novel rundown for that) and therefore does not completely go over them. Must be very confusing to those who didn't read it lol
A representative of the US Government, in association with the World Government, the Shadow Government, the Lizard People, and the Watchers From Behind the Stars acknowledges that they sold dangerous good under the guise of garden supplies but does not plan to actually help anyone negatively affected by them.
The Librarians are more active than usual and may have gained the ability to mentally influence people, including James Patterson (no relation to the famous local dairy farmer of the same name).
The Barista District has had a population influx as all the Troy's go there. But of course, Troy being Troy, he just continues to multiply and overwhealm everything and everyone again. This is solved by Carlos as pointed out in the Novel.
All you need to do to become a Community Radio intern is not run away when station management surrounds you outside your home shouting "THIS ONE IS NEXT! THIS ONE IS NEXT!" says Cecil, as Intern Danielle stopped coming into work following a job taking pictures of Khoshekh.
Weather: "Endless Dream" by God Is An Astronaut http://godisanastronaut.com
Carlos makes delicious fruit salad, which contains meat apparently.
Cecil tells us Josie's private opinion of the Man in the Tan Jacket, which he admits she didn't actually release to him as a statement and it was just something interesting she said whilst they were hanging out.
Cecil mentions how he's going bowling and mentions that he can vaguely see something that we know to be Josh Crayton trying out his new winged form.
Stay tuned in just a few days, or depending on where you are in time, any day you decide to get around to it, for a 401 page factual report about the events that led to this epilogue, available in hardcover, ebook, or audiobook from your favorite factual report retailer. In the meantime, from after the whole of what you haven’t yet read, good night, Night Vale. Good night.
Proverb: 'Late capitalism' is such a sweetly optimistic phrase.

20 Questions for Fic Writers
Tagged by: @noodyl-blasstal thanks so much for thinking of me! Tagging: @the-barista-district
1. How many works do you have on A03?
I have only the one on AO3, I just started my account there not too long ago
2. What's your total A03 word count?
My wordcount is 78,284! It's one of the longest fics I've written in a long while
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Nowadays it's pretty much TAZ all the way down, but there's some old stuff I have on this blog that's WTNV adjacent and a couple things for The Arcana mobile game (playing in the setting with OCs, as is a preference of mine in general). I haven't locked up the deep archives of Marvel and Ranger's Apprentice and fuckin' Leverage, but I'm not gonna help you find them either
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
The only one I have on AO3 is Virtue and Vice, but the most popular fic I can find on here is Firelight and Beach Nights 1 & 2
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I love to respond to comments when I get them! I find them very encouraging and I will talk your ear off (or type your eyes off? is that a good perversion of that phrase? lol) about my Thoughts if you let me
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I don't know that I really have any with angsty endings? Most of my angsty ones are the ones I wrote alongside my rp with @the-barista-district as tie on/lead ins to that storyline
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Virtue and Vice has an ending that I'm really proud of, I feel like I managed to go full-circle on their story and end with a lot of potential and hope for the future. It's a story that became about growing up and choosing your family and who you want to be, and I lived in it for a year.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
I have not and would cry (then delete the comment, bc fuck'em) if I did
9. Do you write smut?
I have written smut, yes. The stuff that's publicly posted is not my best (many years old now) and I won't link it, but it's all appropriately tagged #fanfic and #nsfw if you want to go searching (why?)
10. Do you write crossovers?
It has never occurred to me to do so. I'm generally more comfortable doing OC insert fic (with the exception of some TAZ stuff. Rping has helped me to figure out Kravitz so I'll write him sometimes) and I wouldn't know how to go about a crossover in that sort of niche
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not as far as I'm aware
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
*shakes magic 8 ball* Signs point to no
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
I haven't, but I've rped a bunch and I feel like that's similar in some aspects I guess. Just, yanno, not really a finished fic out of it
14. What's your all-time favourite ship?
Taakitz is the one I gravitate towards, though I can also be persuaded by a Taagnus and a Blupjeans
15. What's the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I've got a Taakitz fic on the back burner where Krav is a ghost but there's a time-recursion aspect and he thinks he's the one being haunted for a bit. I'd like to finish that but my brain has decided I'm doing something else (it's a fun something else)(still debating if I'll post)
16. What are your writing strengths?
I enjoy the characters and relationships that I build. Some are stronger than others, but I feel like I can generally get to a point where they're believable, and different dynamics can shine through. I love to get bogged down in the "where's the difference between what they're willing to say/do, and what they're actually trying to communicate", "how do they feel and how do they think they feel"
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
I have to agree with Noodyl here and say that tense is hard, POV is difficult (staying as close as I want the narration to feel is the part that gets me more than head-hopping). Getting into established characters is especially difficult (hense, OCs)
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I think it can be cool and have considered many times adding Spanish to things, pero no hablo ni escribo mucho en español (heh)
19. First fandom you wrote for?
One of my earliest is from the Ranger's Apprentice by John Flanagan, hidden deep in the archives of redacted where I shall not link the general public
20. Favourite fic you've ever written?
There's been a lot of stories I love and a lot I've lived in over the years, even from the before tumblr times. Especially from those times. I'm just going to say Virtue and Vice again bc it's recent and I love it and I'm not linking to anything from my teenage years bc yeeesh

"What does that mean? I have go to the shop." Hunter said, trying to leave again only to be pressed back to his seat.
"Hunter, we've explained it, Kyle is giving us the day off." Bree said softly, hoping the poor 1st Level would finally understand.
Bree didn't know what Kyle was thinking, sure her and Dylan understood he was trying to make up for the other day but Hunter and Tris were 1st Levels. They didn't know anything other than working at the shop. Dylan and Bree had been blocking Hunter for at least a half hour now.
"I have to go to work!" Hunter stresses, his face showing the ghost traces of emotion. He was compelled to leave, his whole being told him being here was wrong. It wasn't right.
"You don't have work today." Dylan said, side eyeing Tris who had only protested at first about not going.
"No, no, I have to go. The shop already opened. I have to go." Hunter repeated, not affected by the comforting pats Bree gave him.
"Tris?" Dylan asked, "Why aren't you concerned?" It has been bugging him all morning.
They told Tris and Hunter this morning that none of them were going into work today other than Kyle and Brent to make up for them being late and leaving the shop short staffed. Dylan thought it was perfectly fair and as a 2nd Level he had had days off before, he thought it would be nice. Tris and Hunter on the other hand had never taken time off before and they both reacted as would be expected.
After explaining it in depth, Tris had calmed down and stayed seated while Hunter was near getting hysterical. It was concerning how different they were reacting, down right suspicious.
"I do not understand." Tris said, the vague impression of confusion on their face.
"Do you want to go in?" Dylan asked, ignoring Bree's announce that he wasn't helping.
"Yes." Tris said.
"We have to go!" Hunter insisted, trying to get up once again only to be pushed down.
Hunter's hands grabbed the comforter under him, his grip tightening every moment. Looking to the world he may be having a nervous break down, if 1st Level were capable of that.
"It's okay sweetie." Bree said, patting Hunter's face softly, smoothing out his hair. "You are okay, no one is in trouble." She was beginning to think they should just send Hunter and Tris in, this wasn't going to end well.
"Tris, why are you concerned like Hunter?" Dylan asked, crossing his arms.
"I understand you do not wish for us to leave." Tris said, glancing at Hunter, a brief hint of concern flashing in their eyes. They subtly adjusted their position sitting on the bed to slide their hand to touch Hunter's.
"Tell me what's going on, Tris." Dylan said, he was sure something was up with them, 1st Levels didn't act like this. Tris didn't act like this.
"I do not understand...nothing is going on." Tris said looking up at Dylan.
"I don't believe you." Dylan said, looking at Bree with stern concern.
"Dylan, 1st Levels can't lie, they don't know how." Bree said, sitting next to Hunter to hold him around the waist to both hold him there and comfort him if she could.
"They don't dodge questions either, they straight forward." Dylan said, thinking a moment. "Hunter, what's going on with Tris?" He asked, 1st Levels always did as they were told by higher levels and Dylan was getting to the bottom of this.
"I..I..." Hunter sputtered, looking even more distressed than before. "I am not supposed to say." He squeaked.
"What..." Bree looked at Dylan with wild confusion. Now she was concerned, that shouldn't happen, not unless a higher level told him to keep it a secret.
"Tris, what are you hiding from us?" Dylan asked, this had gone on long enough he wasn't going to put up with any more of this nonsense.
"I...I.." Tris stuttered, looking between them all. There was nothing they could do now, there was no getting out of this. It was time.
Tris sighed, pulling up their sleeve and presenting their arm, showing them all the two faint lines around their wrist. Bree gasped, reaching over to pull Tris' arm closer to see.
"You ascended!" Dylan exclaimed, he had not expected that and he felt foolish for not considering it.
"Yes...I have. I told Hunter not to tell anyone yet." Tris said, taking their arm back and pushing down the sleeve.
"Why didn't you tell us?" Bree asked.
"I was...scared." Tris admitted, looking down at their lap.
Dylan and Bree exchanged a glance. They remembered how jarring ascending could feel, it was overwhelming and could be terrifying especially when you didn't even understand what terror was. They could sympathize with Tris' choice.
"It's okay, that's normal. You're gonna start to feel all sorts of things and not understand what they are or what it means. But you have all of us to help you though it." Dylan said, sitting down on the empty side of Tris.
"If you ever have any questions, just ask, we all went through this at first." Bree said, smiling wider at them.
"Yes, okay, I'll try." Tris said softly, knowing they were right, feeling what had to be foolish for thinking they had to hide this. "I need to tell Kyle."
"Yes, you do." Bree said. "But that can wait."
"Should we let Hunter go?" Dylan asked, watching the younger Barista squirming.
"I don't know..." Bree said, her smile shrinking.
Tris turned themselves on the bed, taking Hunter's hand in theirs, giving it a squeeze as they had seen humans do to comfort others.
"Hunter." Tris said, tilting their head as Hunter looked at them. "I would like you to stay with me today. We can go to my apartment to make coffee. Perhaps come up with a new specialty drink. We will work hard and be very productive."
Hunter relaxed slightly, considering this, looking down at their hands. He didn't understand the idea of not going to the shop for a whole day, but they would be working on something for the shop. It would be like they were still working for the shop.
"Yes, that would be good." Hunter said, releasing the tension he'd been building up in his shoulders. "I would like that."
"Good. Hunter and I will be fine." Tris said standing up and bringing Hunter up with them.
"Thanks Tris." Bree said, her wide smile returning.
"You're welcome." Tris said, taking Hunter out of Dylan's apartment.
"Well this certainly has been an exciting couple of days, hasn't it?" Bree asked with a laugh.
"It certainly had." Dylan said, sighing, falling back on the bed, staring at the ceiling. "This is all too exciting for me."

Adelram (WTNV Vibes)
Adelram; a man of tall stature, thin and lanky with skin too light for the desert in which he lived. Eyes that seemed to register little yet understand all- This was the man who ran the cafe.
The cups that he handed out, paper cups with plastic tops that didn’t quite fit right, were full of liquids. The liquids were not clearly defined by the runes scrawled on their cups nor by the customer’s request. It seemed like every being who entered the cafe, be it by glowing portal or the trap door in the stock room, would convulse as they spoke in an ancient, dead language to order their drinks and somehow Adelram would know just what to get for them.
He hardly spoke, conversing in nods and grunts and gestures and telepathic messages consisting only of static and sobbing.
He was never seen anywhere but behind the counter of the little establishment with it’s walls lined with black and white photographs and artifacts from an era long gone.
One could not picture him outside of his apron covered with dark brownish red stains doing whatever it was that normal people do. One could not picture him without bags under his eyes, darkening as the days went on, nor without the look of a man who had had his soul trampled and burned.
He was happy here, he told himself. He always was happy here, he reminded himself. He would love to be here forever, he assured himself.
He would…never leave? He asked himself.
When there was a break in customers and the cafe was silent he couldn't help the thoughts that wandered through his mind. About what it was like on the other side of the cafe entrance. About how the sun felt on his skin. About how having friends and leaving would feel. Did he ever have a life outside of being a slave to people's morning desires and need to self medicate their weary souls?

Wtnv quick rundown - 101 - Guidelines for Disposal
Co-written by Brie Williams.
Check out the other episodes, some live shows and the first novel rundowns here!
You are swimming distance from a shore you cannot see. If you choose the wrong direction, you will drown. If you do not make a decision, you will drown. Welcome to Night Vale.
It is Mandatory Annual Spring Cleaning Day in NV. There is a new landfill facility in the Barista District and Cecil has received instructions from the sanitation department on how to dispose of things correctly. The instructions came via a pneumatic tube he found under the floorboards of his office, under layers of cement bricks, chains and padlocks.
The new landfill does not accept items that take up physical space like the old landfill it's replacing did. You can only bring things like ideas, memories, emotions etc.
There is a recycling part which also takes anything non-physical that isn't useful to you but could be made useful later/by others.
There is a sealed chamber for you to speak messages, e-mail contents and missed calls into and then walk away.
You can throw out a whole year, but only one per resident, and Cecil advises being careful in your selection. A bad year may be the start of an era of terror, not the peak and all years contain positive things that have unforeseen consequences later on that you might not want to lose it.
There's an area for dumping things that you aren't yet sure if you regret (like crushes on platonic friends). He goes into quite a specific situation with that example.
Cecil tells us an in depth story about a theoretical person/'you' who saw a blackhole opening in the sky about a beach one day which changed them forever. They feel they're being followed by a grey car everywhere. They often return to their childhood home and sleep on the sofa there and are preparing for the demolition of said house. They punched a hole in their bedroom wall after that day at the beach and covered it with a Duran Duran poster. Mice began to nest and reproduce in the wall, causing them to have to bail out handfuls of baby mice so often it caused their grades to drop. One day, instead of mice, there was a miniture black hole like the one at the beach.
Cecil goes on to describe more details of this persons life and things they can and can't bring (fever dreams must be taken to the facility in Pine Cliffs) to the new landfill.
Weather: "Letters" by Lera Lynn
There is a lost and found segment this episode. In the drainage ditch on Drainage Ditch Road someone found a phone with no contacts on it but a series of strange photos that could possibly identify it to the owner. There's also a series of cardboard boxes scattered around the empty field near the abandoned missile silo. Those who enter are transported into a maze where they must correctly pull a series of levers and dials in order to escape. One escapee smugly refuses to give any hints. (Lucinda Fierro calls to correct some of the terms Cecil uses during this).
Old Woman Josie is once more in hospital, suffering from more infections from her broken hip last year. Doctors are optimistic though.
Cecil tells us that there is a passageway in his basement that links to an identical basement that has the same things as his in it (such as burning woodsmoke flavour La Croix and old family photos of his) and through the door to the other house he can hear the sound of his own voice.
Stay tuned next for a 12-hour binaural meditation track of a rainstick being used to tenderize meat. Happy purging, Night Vale. And goodnight.
Proverb: There’s no harm in trying. Really depends on what you’re trying. Either way, give it a go. It’s probably fine.
