SO this is a day late; whoops, I meant to post this on New Years' Eve

I did this last year and wanted to do it again! So here’s a list that no one asked for of the top 10 anime series I watched this year, including two honorable mentions. They are ranked from (in my opinion) best to worst!

Animes I Watched This Year: 

Arcane: League of Legends

IDK if this counts as an anime, but I love it so much that I’m including it anyway. 

Literally my favorite animated show of all time. 

It beats out Moriarty the Patriot, Demon Slayer, all of the animes. 

People who have been following me since my Arcane obsession began know of my love for Viktor.

He’s my favorite and deserves the world. 

But the show is stunning; every shot is amazing, the music is astounding, and everything about it is breathtaking!

Jujutsu Kaisen 0

Ok, I saw this in theaters, and I wanted to cry because it’s so beautiful. 

I already owned the manga and had read it, and the fact that I love the movie more than the manga is something to consider.

There was never a boring moment in the movie, all the characters were memorable (with the exception of very few), and I absolutely adore Yuta.

Like, I already loved Geto because of that flashback arc we had in the manga, but Yuta beat him, he beat Gojo, and he beat everyone in the entire anime as my favorite except for maybe Inumaki.

This was truly Yuta’s movie, and I can’t wait for season 2!

Demon Slayer Season 2

THIS SHOW BLEW MY EXPECTATIONS OUT OF THE WATER

The CGI used was absolutely amazing. THIS IS HOW CGI SHOULD BE USED PEOPLE TAKE NOTES

Uzui is actually my favorite Hashira, save for Iguro (my least favorite is Rengoku, don’t come for me) so seeing a season dedicated to him was great.

I own all the manga, and this was one of my favorite arcs, so seeing it animated was like a birthday present. 

Bungou Stray Dogs: WAN!

THIS SHOW IS SO CUTE, BUT ALSO MADE ME CRY WTF

Like episode 10? Had me pretty much bawling my eyes out

I also watched it in dub which was also a treat. I really like the BSD dub, and this was no exception.

Spy x Family

Normally slice-of-life shows aren’t my thing. 

But this one is the exception! 

This show is so fun, so colorful, and so just utterly amazing that I can’t help but want to rewatch it a bunch!

I don’t have any complaints about it. It’s just at number 5 cause I love the other shows more. 

Chainsaw Man

So I’m collecting the manga right now. 

I already read it online and remember pretty much none of it. 

This is what I get for reading it during finals week lmao

But the show is so cool!

It helps refresh my memory of what happens and every moment (save for the first kiss) is animated so beautifully!

They use CGI really well, with very few moments looking awkward or just out of pace. 

This is only down at the halfway mark because it hasn’t gotten to my favorite part of the manga yet, so I can’t accurately judge how much I’ll love my favorite parts.

The Case Study of Vanitas Season 2

THIS IS SUCH A PRETTY SHOW

The only reason it’s down this far is because I didn’t actually finish season 2. 

I didn’t even see the final fight between everyone and the Beast of Gevaudan, or however you spell it

So I really can’t judge this show until I finish the entire thing, haha

Blue Exorcist

I’M ONLY ON EPISODE THREE AND HAVEN’T SEEN IT SINCE 2014 DON’T COME FOR ME

I’m watching it in English Dub, and I think this is the only role that I actually like Bryce Papenbrook in. Anything else, and he just comes across as slightly annoying, but I really like him as Rin!

But this show is such a nostalgia trip. It’s great to rewatch, and the animation holds up really well!

Also, the opening is one of my favorites. I absolutely adore it. 

Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress

This one is so bizarre, but I still really enjoy it. 

Like the premise is so cool, and the animation is great!

It just fell kind of flat. 

They just needed more episodes to really explore everything they wanted to, but overall, 7/10 would recommend it to someone looking for a short but fun watch!

High Rise Invasion

I’m not even done with episode 1, but I already really enjoy the guy with the sniper rifle. I think he’s called Sniper Mask?

Anyway, the whole bit at the beginning of that one cop or whatever trying to make the main girl take off her clothes wasn’t the best. 

It is part of what brought it down to number ten.

The other part is just that I haven’t finished it. 

I’m noticing a trend with my watching habits, lol

Honorable Mentions

Sk8 the Infinity

Literally, the only thing beating this out of my top ten list is Adam. 

I actually had this idea of writing a story of a detective from America coming to Japan and arresting him because that was hilarious to me, and he didn’t deserve the ending he got. 

He deserved much worse, and no one can change my mind. 

Millionaire Detective: Balance Unlimited

Oh. My. Gosh. This show was SO BORING

so first i rly rly liked what u had to say abt gaius being manipulative that bit that was an icky bc its literally so true and it feeds into the idea that gaius and uther were the first generation of merlin and arthur bc gaius was uthers close friend like rly rly close and we know this bc gaius was an active practicer of magic when the great purge happened and uther just let it slide as long as gaius stopped but also that means gaius had to watch uther hunt his sorcerer friends so that fucked him up and hes pushing that on merlin now bc gaius does not want to lose merlin like he lost everyone else and thats also why hes so fast to take merlins place on the pyre bc gaius has watched his friends take that L for so long that he finally wants to be the one to do it and gaius actively is aware of that but never says it bc he bottled everything up so bad like merlin does now

i do not plan to go in order of what was said im going in order of the most aggressive thought so next is abt merlin losing it and telling arthur everything;

there are definitely ways this could not happen depending what specific point on the timeline it is but im gonna say its late season 4/early season 5 once everyone who knew merlins secret openly is dead (gwaine fucking know istg theres no way he doesnt but he just never said anything) so gaius was all he had left

actually side note but gaius dying wouldve been so fucking good with the gaius/uther merlin/arthur parallel bc uther died so arthurs struggling with that then gaius died and it ushers in the new era its like in bsd with the skk generations one of them has to break up for the next one to rise

anyway tho gaius is gone so now merlin has no one to tell all his shit bc gaius got the absolute worst of him bc he gave arthur the rest (reference to a fic ill link later) so everybody expected merlin to be upset a lil dead for a bit he and gaius were so close that cant have been easy but hes a strong lil guy he’ll be ok he can get thru it but arthur noticed that its not like that fucking at all merlin literally has not spoken bc he cant all the shit he has to say he can only say to gaius so hes been dead ass silent he has not been taking care of himself bc his motivation to is gone gaius was the one that made sure he ate and slept enough and didnt do stupid shit but now hes gone merlin literally can barely funtion so arthurs like mkay wtf is up and confronts merlin and it ends in merlin saying literally everything

i also feel like maybe merlin wouldve felt like he didnt have a place there anymore bc smth abt having magic and that great destiny with no one left who can help him bc he knows he cant do all the shit he does alone

last thought but i figured out the difference between gaius dying and kilgharrah dying i alr explained the kilgharrah dying idea but with gaius merlin would reflect on everything and this goes back to the good/wrong bad/right idea bc merlin wouldve realized that gaius was not necessarily wrong some of the time and if merlin had gone with good instead of bad even when it looked like good was wrong and bad was right things wouldve ended up ok so now that hes thought all that out he realizes that he thinks telling arthur is right so he does i think hed probably have his dead silent arc then wander his ass into arthurs room and just fucking say everything thats hes ever wanted to say to arthur that he told gaius instead and its kinda like a respects to gaius thing idrk how to explain but in his grief he spills all that and it ends up being ok bc arthur literally cannot be mad while merlins grieving that hard or hed be an asshole hed be just like his father

thats it for now ill probably add onto this bc this sparked thoughts abt arthur and i needed those so thank u so so so much i loved this it was so silly i hadnt had a good full theory write in way too long also i appreciate that u liked my lil good/bad right/wrong chart ok toodles🤭🤭

ive said before that kilgharrah dying is very important to merlins Going Fucking Crazy arc and is kinda a breaking point like if hed actually died instead of just started getting there merlin wouldve lost his shit and continued down the path of obsession he was on but so much faster

but what if gaius died

the reason thats such a big omg what if goes back to when i said that gaius is merlins good wrong influence and kilgharrah is merlins bad right influence (this post) so kilgharrah dying sends merlin further into corruption bc bad/right but gaius being good/wrong would that have taken merlin back out of the corruption path and everything wouldve been ok?

im also realizing that every scenario i come up with ends in everything is ok so i think that the way things went in canon is the only possible collection of events to lead to the bad ending

it’s pretty wild right now from every aspect. bram really just woke up and just started a vampire apocalypse with fukuchi. i’m hoping that the ~ mysterious page ~ or yosano’s ability somehow fixes that big mess. i will cry forever if they really take aku and gin away from me omg.

i feel like dazai is gonna get tangled with whatever gogol and sigma tries to do with fyodor. maybe we’ll get to see fyodor’s ability when shit goes down then. but i know whatever they do will be crazy because like, who knows what goes on in gogol’s mind? and then there’s sigma ooh my god. he’s so very precious, i just want him to be happy! leave him and his casino alone !! i’m scared what’s gonna happen to him at the end 😭

we haven’t seen kunikida, yosano, kenji and tanizaki for a while now and i can only hope that they’re gonna have some grand entrance with good news. also chuuya omg where is he ??? what is he doing ???? and what’s up ranpo and fukuzawa ??? and mori ?????

there’s still so much that we don’t know and waiting for new chapters is just torture !! it’s hard to predict what happens next because bsd is always full of twists and turns, which is also why it’s so good! but also lots of pain lol

Thoughts on how BSD can end

This thing has been bothering me a lot since I saw a m/e(m9e post for BSD ending with Dazai dying. 

Character wise it makes a lot of sense. Dazai WANTS to die. BSD CAN end with him dying. But that would be somewhat bitter for the audience however again, BSD is a universe where anyone can die anytime, you have no idea what is gonna happen next. 

Please do note that I am not doing it from a biased shipping perspective but from a neutral point of view. 

1. This is where a dilemma comes in, that if it happens wouldn’t Odasaku dying would be somewhat useless and irrelevant that all the things he did was just to show Dazai the light that he wanted to see? If you remember the ending theme song for S2, Kaze Ga Fuku Machi, the pre chorus goes as “The words you gave me are stored deep with in my heart so the next time I meet you I can stand proudly before you.” Now if you break these parts, the words Odasaku gave Dazai was save the ones who needs help, live in the light, be a good man. These are the words that Dazai lives by today (although considering his moral its quite questionable) meaning those words of Odasaku are still in his heart. Now the question is, when will he meet Odasaku? Like as in visiting the grave like the official art for the dvd where he was standing in a grave yard with Chuuya facing his back? or is it him actually dying while fighting for the light and then meeting Odasaku? (does he even believe in heaven and hell? Wtf?) 

2. Now plot wise this is possible too. But then similar thing happened in BEAST, where he had to die for the book. The question is, does the same book thing happens in cannon time line? Maybe I am missing on things but in s2 Fitz was after the book, then Fyodor and Dazai already (assuming) knows about the book. As well as Natsume sensei knows about the said book (but then Natsume sensei is really not actively in there however he still knows about the book.). So that means more than 3 people already knows about the book and nothing has happened to Yokohama yet. (or maybe is going to happen in this Fyodor arc). Lets say if a similar thing as BEAST is about to happen in cannon timeline, the 4th person knowing about the book would mean someone has to be eliminated to save Yokohama. It can be Dazai or someone else. 

3. The next point is what is this book everyone is after? is it the book that Natsume sensei gave to Odasaku and wanted Odasaku to write the 4th vol of it? is it Kunikida’s Doppo Poetry? Since it can make anything happen? But then a lot of the characters in BSD already knows about Doppo Poetry and they didn’t mention anything about in s2. So it can be Natsume sensei’s book because they haven’t showed that much about him yet. Or another totally different book. 

4. I happen to stumble on a theory few days ago where they talked about No Longer Human being able to access memories from other alternative universes, meaning he knows what happens in BEAST, that Odasaku lives on and he dies. And perhaps this is why he can still live on the cannon timeline knowing that Odasaku is still alive somewhere in another timeline. Thus the ending would be just him living and PM and ADA working together to protect Yokohama. 

4. Another theory I read while ago was the entire BSD is Dazai’s memories and he is actually dead right now since as we can see on the opening for s1 is him falling (most probably) from the Port Mafia towers (somewhat similar mental images as BEAST when he commits suicide). However, anime wise it makes a lot of sense since the anime had that visual already but the manga did not had the same visual so that would make a bit less sense for the manga timeline. Unless the anime and the manga have a different ending, where in anime it ends with showing that he is dead but in manga he revives or smth like that (tho idk if thats possible in BSD universe, maybe a new ability user will be introduced but thats not even possible because of his nullification ability. 5. What bothers me extremely is Cannon having almost the same ending as BEAST. But in BEAST he died because Odasaku lived on, in Cannon, Odasaku died and thats why he got to live. If a similar thing as BEAST happens, again as mentioned in possibility 1, it would be pretty messy on the part as in what Odasaku has done for him to be a good man. But still can be possible. 

6. Another way to end BSD would be killing someone close to Dazai as warning to Dazais future death. If thats the case then it would either, Shin Soukoku or Chuuya. Although the series actually revolves around Shin Soukoku, so they have a lower chance of dying and Chuuya is extremely popular and a minor character related (deeply) to Dazai but it’s possible he can die from Corruption. Or if they use the Odasaku route then Dazai dying in cannon is quite predictable. 

7. An ironic ending of Dazai dying while the series started with Atsushi Saving Dazai. (thank you @no-longer-tainted to open my eyes on this one!!). Its almost like a chain or Dominos effect where one dies and the other lives on through his wishes. (The father, the son and the holy spirit kind of) Odasaku’s wish to saving and helping people,. he dies and Dazai lives with his wish. Dazai dying and Atsushi living through his wishes of protecting the city (and making Shin Soukoku work properly) 

8. Asagiri has a reputation of surprising us a lot so it could be something totally different. Since we are somewhat expecting Dazai to die maybe Asagiri will make him live? or to really surprise the heck outta us would be just ACTUALLY killing him and then ending it with Shin Soukoku taking over. 

Now its just probably safe to be prepared for someone to die at the end of BSD. Be it Dazai or anyone else. But if he dies well gonna fucking stab the fuck outta myself i guess?

So I think I'm relatively new to you and your stuff (at the very least that's how it feels still), but just to get this out of the way: your art is gorgeous wtf. I haven't seen all of it and most of it seems to be ShuAke or Soukoku, but it looks amazing all the same. (Also how do people mistake ShuAke for Soukoku? They don't even have the same hair. (this is primarily in jest. I'm sure there's a reason if it's happened so often))

Now for the other reason I’m sending an ask! In all honesty I feel kind of awkward doing this, and also I saw that Persona 5 has you in a chokehold right now, so you’re probably focused on that. Write a meta about Kunikida :)

Dang there’s so much to write about. So I’ll just talk about what I had come to notice one day—

So heres my theory on Kunikida’s notebook and his incessant need to fulfill a schedule he laid out for himself. 

A lot of people question this aspect a lot and maybe some people have already arrived to the conclusion that I have, but I have yet to see anything of the sort take off because Kunikida is an under appreciated character!! I think most people wrote it off as something he does for his ideals, and, often times, ideals are rather illogical and questionable.

Eons ago, I found a real nifty site here that had some very interesting things about the actual Kunikida Doppo.

There was a long essay I was reading through on that site, but of course, I need to start a trial the read the rest so I only read up to right before the good part! I was so mad, I wanted to hear what he had to say about the actual Kunikida’s failed first marriage… And the rest of his short life, I mean. Dude, I was in it to see how bad he got dragged by his first wife, ok?

ANYWAYS—

You can claim that his notebook serves as a visual reminder of his ability, “Doppo Ginkaku.” The book itself was essentially a compilation of Kunikida-sensei’s works after all. 

In fact, BSD!Kunikida’s ability to conjure up anything smaller than his notebook is a nod to Kunikida-sensei’s movement in Naturalism. In some very small phrases I have seen translated of his works, his descriptions of nature is insanely detailed and paints a very clear image in mind. It can be said that the descriptions are so detailed that you can actually visit a place you have never been to before and that’s impressive in a literary sense.

However, what really got me thinking was the fact that Kunikida’s notebook served more than just an accessory for his ability.

He wrote anything and everything in it from to-do lists to his ideals on to that notebook so I wondered about why he does that. I already knew that it was to reference something of the actual Kunikida’s works, but I had trouble trying to figure out why.

I’m not entirely sure about the purpose of his ideals, but Kunikida-sensei did feel that his movement is misunderstood and no one understands his ideology ( and thus he became good friends with Katai, who felt the same way nopeidontplaybungoutoalchemist ).

I’m somewhat certain his ideals to not want others to die in front of him came from the time the actual Kunikida went on to be a war reporter. It certainly made him rather depressed and numb to the world around him.

But his schedules— Why was he so adamant on pursuing it all the way down to a T?

The actual Kunikida didn’t seem like someone who was THAT organized from what I can gather so why?

It was because of the Late Kunikida’s book, Azamaukazaru no ki ( can be translated as: “Records of an Honest Man” / yes the thing I was referencing ). That book was essentially his diary from some point of his life onwards till the day he dies. If I can math properly, he was probably around 18, more or less, when he got a diary to write on, where I base my theory that BSD!Kunikida didn’t notice his abilities until maybe around high school and why it is specifically confined to THAT notebook and can’t use his abilities on any other paper medium.

What really set this off was when I went on to read whatever has been translated of light novel one, which was essentially EP6-7 of the anime but modified to actually reflect the recent plot, on Dazai’s Entrance Exam.

Since Kunikida was around 20 at the time he ever met Dazai, the year of when he will meet his ideal partner was changed to 6 as compared to 4 in the anime. It then hit me that it was around the same time Kunikida-sensei married his second wife.

I thought about that some more, he actually talked more of his plans in the light novel than in the anime, such as what he did during the day, who he met, and what he did when he met those people.

What was the point of that?

Then it came to me that I read about Azamaukazaru no ki being the actual Kunikida’s diary.

Then the fact he wants to pursue his schedules down to the fine point is because IT HAS ALREADY BEEN WRITTEN DOWN. Those are things that has already happened.

Other things pertaining his anger towards things not going his way may also be a nod to the financial troubles the actual Kunikida faced ( which impeded him from pursing his dream of being a writer ) and the opposition to his ideology ( specifically met with when he became a teacher with a rather unorthodox teaching method / the strict and stern teacher ).

However, now that it’s established that his ideals are to mimic Azamaukazaru no ki then perhaps Kunikida might’ve planned his life all the way up till he was around 30, but due to the fact the writer died rather young, the rest of it past that age might be unwritten.

Will that mean BSD!Kunikida will die then or will it mean that he will eventually fill up those empty pages?

Just thinking that his life was already laid out before him was something I would think about on occasion. It also made sense why he has a insane list of requirements for an ideal partner, because it’s already written. It’s there. Also explains why he fell head over heels for Nobuko, despite the whole ideal partner thing ( even Nobuko said, “WTF DUDE THIS IS CRAZY” )

My only concern is that if Kunikida is to run the ADA in the future, what if something went wrong?

The actual Kunikida tried to run a publishing firm but didn’t work out so it CLOSED, so will that happen to the ADA?

So many questions and none of us will know cause Asagiri Kafka is an allusive guy when it comes to writing. But we do know that he isn’t afraid to kill off characters when needed, so we can only ask—

What will happen to Kunikida now?

After taking that into account, Kunikida’s actions aren’t actually something unreasonable or made up as much as we are lead to believe. There’s still a lot of questions to consider but I noticed one of the biggest mysteries to Kunikida’s schedules was because of Azamaukazaru no ki. So it probably isn’t much but I figured something out on my own which was the point of the post!
