Country soul singer-songwriter Brei Carter celebrates the beginning of Black History Month with a new single release, a genre-bending song collaboration with her musical pal, DJ and Producer, Elektrohorse. Dubbed “Boots Get To Talking,” the song is available everywhere digitally on January 25 and is being released independently. It’s my new anthem and I call it home!” The song comes complete with a new music video that will premiere on February 1 on YouTube, also shot and produced by Elektrohorse, which finds Carter having a backyard dance party with her Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority sisters, and doing what she does best; charming her listener with her dynamic and vivacious personality. “This video is a soulful tribute to my roots in Louisiana and Texas and the enduring connections I still hold dear,” Carter continued. “It’s also a nod to my N2Deep family in North Carolina, where we let our boots speak on the trail ride circuit. She is proof that sometimes faith, patience and time pays off. Growing up in Monroe, Louisiana with a solid, southern upbringing, Brei’s family raised her on several authentic southern staples: the Bible, Lone Star Missionary Baptist Church’s choir, Charley Pride, Loretta Lynn, Aretha Franklin, and no shortage of familial love and devotion. However, before she became the dynamic and vivacious country singer she is today, Brei was busy earning a Bachelors in Business from University of Louisiana in Monroe, a Masters in International Relations from Webster University, and a Doctorate in Theology from New Foundation Theological Seminary. She is also a proud Veteran of the U.S. Army, where she served as an enlisted soldier and as an officer. Having moved to Nashville soon thereafter, Brei has quickly established herself in the songwriters community as a smooth and sometimes edgy songstress who melds country, soul and southern pop into one fused style. Her first single at country radio “Gave Him A Girl” was immediately recognized as “cute and catchy” by country music journalist and historian Robert K. Oermann from Music Row Magazine. She’s also been featured by TBN-TV’s Huckabee, RFD-TV, WSMV-TV, WoodSongs Old-Time Radio Hour, Billboard, Guitar Girl Magazine, Nashville.com, St. Louis Magazine, and others. Brei made her CMA Fest debut in 2022, and released her debut album Brand New Country, which included her fan-favorite cover of Charley Pride’s “Kiss an Angel Good Mornin,” and her life’s musical story “Stronger Than That.” In 2023 Brei released her latest original, “Straight Up Country Crazy,” which perfectly showcases her dynamic and jovial personality and her first Holiday EP, the critically acclaimed Twinkling Tales of Christmas. With a new album and new shows in the works for 2024, the future is looking up and bright for Brei and her journey as a songwriter. Country Songstress Brei Carter To Release New Music With Sophisticated Rendition Of “For The Good Times”
Country singer-songwriter Brei Carter announces new music is on the way for 2023 via her recent global music distribution partnership with Brown Lee Entertainment & The Orchard. Carter puts a slightly sultry, yet sophisticated southern touch on a Kris Kristofferson classic tune, “For The Good Times,” available April 14 everywhere, cutting the song with established Nashville producer and composer Curt Ryle (Taylor Swift, Pam Tillis, Brooks & Dunn) from his private studio. Carter is also working on a new music video to rollout in April for the song which was first released by Bill Nash in 1968. However, it was Ray Price who first turned it into a #1 country hit in 1970 with subsequent popularized recordings from Al Green and Wayne Newton. “I wanted to record the song because of the message I think it represents, and that’s not taking anyone or anything for granted,” said Carter. “Love can be here today and gone tomorrow, and sometimes people just grow apart. It says that no matter what, life goes on so we should make the most of every moment. That’s a reminder that I think about in everything that I do.” The up-and-coming Nashville-based songstress who was recently featured by WSMV-TV about her growing music career is also preparing her next original song project, the jovial pop-country anthemic “Straight Up Country Crazy,” also in the works for an early June release. A Nashville woman and her newborn baby are in critical condition at Vanderbilt Medical Center after the mother, who was seven months pregnant, reportedly was shot by a Walgreens employee in a store parking lot for alleged shoplifting.
Police said that the 21-year-old Walgreens employee was notified by another employee that 34-year-old Ferguson and another woman were stealing.
Boyd claimed that he saw the women placing items into a shopping cart and into a large over-the-shoulder bag, according to Eyewitness 3 News Nashville. He reportedly took out his cell phone to record the women and proceeded to follow them out of the store to their car. Boyd reportedly spotted the women loading the stolen items in the trunk of their car and approached the rear side of the vehicle to confront the women.

He said that one of the women sprayed him using a can of mace, and that’s when he pulled out his gun and began shooting at the women.
According to police, Boyd said he started shooting because he was in fear and didn’t know if the women were armed. After the shooting took place, the two women left the scene, and Boyd went back inside the store to call 911.
The woman with Ferguson took her to the city’s General Hospital and drove away. WSMV-TV reports that Ferguson had multiple gunshot wounds and was transported by ambulance to Vanderbilt Medical Center.
Police said that they seized Boyd’s phone and the gun. They also reported that he is cooperating with the investigation.
Boyd was reportedly arrested in October for an alleged incident at a Nashville Best Buy. He reportedly caused disruption and refused to leave the store after discovering the story didn’t have a PlayStation 5 in stock. He allegedly got into an argument with several store employees, including the store manager, and authorities were called.
When police arrived, Boyd reportedly refused to leave and got into an argument with officers. Authorities charged Boyd with criminal trespassing and disorderly conduct.
Nashville detectives said once the Walgreens-related investigation is over, they will take their findings to the district attorney’s office to determine if Boyd will face charges. Nashville police didn’t release the identity of the second woman who was with Ferguson.

Television History - 1950
TV History - 1950.
I'm starting the journey through TV in the year 1950. All information is from wikipedia. First up, the new shows that debuted in 1950, sorted by network. (If I don’t post years next to a show, that means it only lasted one year…or no year is listed on wiki.)
CBS: What’s My Line (1950 version) – The show ran from 1950 through 1967. Beat The Clock (1950-1961). Abe Burrows Almanac (I’ve never heard of this show.)
NBC: Your Show Of Shows (1950-1954). The Colgate Comedy Hour (1950-1955). Four Star Revue (1950-1953). Stars Over Hollywood (1950-1951). Hawkins Falls(?) October 25 – Cuba signs on to television as Havana’s Union Radio TV signs on for the first time, the first television station in the Caribbean.
Ok, the wikipedia page on "DuMont Television" is fascinating. The DuMont Television Network (also known as the DuMont Network, DuMont Television, simply DuMont/Du Mont, or (incorrectly) Dumont[a] /ˈduːmɒnt/) was one of America’s pioneer commercial television networks, rivaling NBC and CBS for the distinction of being first overall in the United States. It was owned by Allen B. DuMont Laboratories,1 a television equipment and set manufacturer, and began operation on June 28, 1942.
The network was hindered by the prohibitive cost of broadcasting, a freeze on new television stations in 1948 by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) that restricted the network’s growth, and even the company’s partner, Paramount Pictures. Despite several innovations in broadcasting and the creation of one of television’s biggest stars of the 1950s—Jackie Gleason—the network never found itself on solid financial ground. Forced to expand on UHF channels during an era when UHF tuning was not yet a standard feature on television sets, DuMont fought an uphill battle for program clearances outside its three owned-and-operated stations in New York City, Washington, D.C., and Pittsburgh, ultimately ending network operations on August 6, 1956.
DuMont’s latter-day obscurity, caused mainly by the destruction of its extensive program archive by the 1970s, has prompted TV historian David Weinstein to refer to it as the "forgotten network". A few popular DuMont programs, such as Cavalcade of Stars and Emmy Award winner Life Is Worth Living, appear in television retrospectives or are mentioned briefly in books about U.S. television history.
This hurts me. DuMont produced more than 20,000 television episodes from 1946–1956. Because they were created prior to the launch of Ampex’s electronic videotape recorder in late 1956, they were initially broadcast live in black and white, then recorded on film kinescope for West Coast rebroadcasts and reruns. By the early 1970s, their vast library of 35mm and 16mm kinescopes eventually wound up in the hands of "a successor network," who reportedly disposed of them in New York City’s East River to make room for more recent videotapes in a warehouse.
Although films submerged for decades have been successfully recovered (see The Carpet from Bagdad as an example), there have been no salvage-diving efforts to locate or recover the DuMont archive. If it survived in that environment, most of the films have likely been damaged. Other kinescopes were put through a silver reclaiming process, because of the microscopic amounts of silver that made up the emulsion of black-and-white film during this time.
It is estimated that only about 350 complete DuMont television shows survive today, the most famous being virtually all of Jackie Gleason’s Honeymooners comedy sketches. Most of the existing episodes are believed to have come from the personal archives of DuMont’s hosts, such as Gleason and Dennis James.
Huh. TIL There were other tv rating systems besides the Nielsen's. The earliest measurements of TV audiences were performed by the C. E. Hooper company of New York. DuMont performed well in the Hooper ratings; in fact, DuMont’s talent program, The Original Amateur Hour, was the most popular series of the 1947–48 season. Two seasons later, Variety ranked DuMont’s popular variety series Cavalcade of Stars as the tenth most popular series.
In February 1950, Hooper’s competitor A. C. Nielsen bought out the Hooper ratings system. DuMont did not fare well with the change: none of its shows appeared on Nielsen’s annual top 20 lists of the most popular series. One of the DuMont Network’s biggest hits of the 1950s, Life is Worth Living, did receive Nielsen ratings of up to 11.1, meaning that they attracted more than 10 million viewers. Sheen’s one-man program – in which he discussed philosophy, psychology and other fields of thought from a Christian perspective – was the most widely viewed religious series in the history of television. 169 local television stations aired Life, and for three years the program competed successfully against NBC’s popular The Milton Berle Show. The ABC and CBS programs that aired in the same timeslot were canceled.
Life is Worth Living was not the only DuMont program to achieve double-digit ratings. In 1952, Time magazine reported that popular DuMont game show Down You Go had attracted an audience estimated at 16 million viewers. Similarly, DuMont’s summer 1954 replacement series, The Goldbergs, achieved audiences estimated at 10 million. Still, these series were only moderately popular compared to NBC’s and CBS’s highest-rated programs.
Nielsen was not the only company to report TV ratings. Companies such as Trendex, Videodex, and Arbitron had also measured TV viewership. The chart in this section comes from Videodex’s August 1950 ratings breakdown, as reported in Billboard magazine.
