“So, this is it.” Impulse says lightly, leaning against a wall. There a few shulkers scattered around, filled with a mix of personal belongings and items leftover from building.

“This is it.” Bdubs adds as he looks through one of the shulkers, gently placing his art supplies inside.

The dryad sighs, shutting the last of the boxes before standing up.

“Well, this isn’t it.” The demon motions between himself and Bdubs.

“My love, you make it sound like we’re breaking up.” Bdubs points out.

Impulse chuckles, scratching at his scalp.

The dryad, his husband, easily strides up to him before placing their hand on his chin. It’s a small motion that he can’t keep himself from purring at as Bdubs starts to lightly scratch.

“I hope you don’t get rid of this.”

“Eehhh… bad texture…” Impulse says cautiously. “I might, just not this long.”

Bdubs almost pouts, but still he smiles. “Fine.”

There’s a small, swift kiss to his lips before Bdubs steps away.

“You gonna help me or what, stupid?”

“Wow, way to talk to your husband.”

“We’re not newly weds anymore, Impulse.” Bdubs laughs.

And yeah, they weren’t. It’d been a year and a half since Double Life and a year since Impulse re-proposed to Bdubs after deciding he truly did want to spend the rest of his life with the dryad.

As if Bdubs could read his mind, like they were still tied by a soulbond, he moves to play with the pocket watch Impulse had made for him.

“Hey, Bdubs?”

“Yeah?”

“A lot– a lot has happened this season… but I’m glad it led me to you.”

His husband stands there, almost dumbfounded as he stares at Impulse. But so easily, he breaks into a wide smile. “Oh you–...” He laughs awkwardly, almost backed into a corner. “Impulse?”

“Yeah?”

“I– I say– gods, this is hard.” He rubs his arm. “I– I love you so much. I love you more than the earth and sun and the moon.”

“I love you…” Bdubs’ smile turns small, soft and gentle. “And I’m– I’m more than happy that we’re together– that we’re still together.”

Impulse holds his hand, squeezing lightly as he kisses Bdubs’ cheek.

“We’re staying together, no matter what.”

“You better promise not to kill me again.”

“I, uh… I can’t do that.”

Bdubs glares before shoving him away. “Okay, alright, I see how it is.”

He can’t stop himself from giggling, and he can’t help but notice the smile that Bdubs tries to hide.

“I love you Bdubs… promise…”

Bdubs is silent for a moment, playing with the pocket watch – their wedding ring – before turning to Impulse. “I love you too.”

How to participate

The Rural Dionysia is meant to be a smaller competition than its urban counterpart, as such, we have selected only 3 categories:

Freestyle poetry

Modern hymns

“Complete the fragment”

Freestyle poetry

Your poem can be about any chosen topic (myth, personal experience etc.) in any written format. It doesn't have to be religious in nature.

Modern hymn

An hymn must sing the praises of a deity of your choice. Unlike the "freestyle poetry", your work must be of religious nature to fit in this category.

Complete the Fragment

Each year, we choose a fragment from an Ancient Greek poet to work with. The challenge is that the initial fragment must be included somewhere in your piece in its original order. This means you can fill the gaps however you want, but you can’t switch the order of the words in your piece or remove words from the original fragment.

Here is the fragment selected for this 2023 edition: Paen 16 by Pindar (52q Oxyrhynchus papyrus; late 2nd century AD; trans. William H. Race; Loeb 56)

General rules

Roleplay and fanfic are not acceptable submissions. This is a religious festival, please respect our faith and do not submit an entry if you are roleplaying or writing fanfiction.

Unlike with the City Dionysia, entries do not necessarily have to be about specific deities or Hellenic polytheism except for the “Modern Hymn” category, which has to be dedicated to one or many gods of your choice.

There are no meter restrictions. This is up to the writer.

All stories, myths, and poems must be entered using the submissions button.

All entries must be tagged for the category they are being submitted to. Entries must also be tagged for potentially triggering content and squicks.

An entry may only be submitted to a single category.

Each person may only submit one entry per category each year.

Winners for each category will be decided by popular vote.

The 2023 Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike has officially ended after 148 days on September 27, 2023 at 12:01AM.

Some details from the contract:

AI can’t write or rewrite literary material, and AI-generated material will not be considered source material .

A writer can choose to use AI but the studio can’t require the writer to use AI software

Studios must disclose to writers if any materials given to them have been generated by AI or incorporate AI-generated material.

The WGA reserves the right to assert that exploitation of writers’ material to train AI is prohibited by the agreement or other law.

The tentative agreement includes a minimum staff size of three writer-producers for a first-season show for development rooms running 20 weeks or longer, with a formula for additional seasons tied to the number of episodes.

Other gains included span — the length of time writers will be employed on scripted shows — with development rooms now guaranteed at least 10 consecutive weeks, post-greenlight rooms securing 20 weeks or the duration of the room. These terms will apply to seasons where the first episode is written after Dec. 1, 2023, which means pre-existing programs do not have to adhere to the room size or span requirements.

The WGA entered the strike asking for a cumulative 16 percent increase in residuals over the three-year MBA and wound up with 12.5 percent.

I found this personally moving, and very glad it was submitted. Full plain-text transcript under the cut.

"LC's passing on MINNIE BRUCE PRATT (whom I had known as a friend since the early '80s) did not record her sex writings as clearly as I (and perhaps she) would have liked (Nov/Dec 2023). True, Minnie Bruce was a wronged mother, a staunch radical feminist and activist, an authentic Southern voice speaking about the perniciousness of racism, an anti-capitalist. But she was also a sex-positive femme who gloried in a reciprocated passion that anyone would envy. The kind of lesbian passion that, as in this case, is sometimes erased.

This passion is very clear and present in her books S/He and Magnified. In them, Minnie Bruce describes the consuming sexuality of her and Leslie's butch-femme union in a way that is still legendary today. The majority of S/He is a finger-licking, torrid account of the infinite desire of a fierce Southern femme for her urban, strap-wearing butch.

I needed to write this for Minnie Bruce, and for all of us tawdry femmes who will never be shamed into passing, or denying our driving need for our butches. Once, in our own lifetimes, our love was illegal. In my Southern state of Kentucky, our "crimes against nature" carried a 20-year sentence and for me, as an attorney, possible disbarment. In North Carolina where Minnie Bruce was living, the felony was used as justification for stealing her children. But our sexual desire was not to be denied. We risked everything for it: children, income, houses, professional stature, incarceration. And it deserves to be mentioned at our passing."

And at the end of it .. life still remains the same ..

Spade… I think something is afoot with this Amazon book, but not in the way everyone else thinks.

When you go to the Amazon page for the “Tortured Poets” - Willow Bowery book (published on Feb 22nd, or the 53rd day of the year — 🎁 anon), there is this description:

The 🎁 anon used the same language of what “this is” and what “this is not” in the clues. So we know what this book is NOT… it’s not the manuscript. It’s not an album or a department. It’s shared musings between an author and their audience. Got it.

Here’s where it gets interesting. While on the page for the “Tortured Poet” book, there was a sponsored ad for another poetry book: “This is a sign.” by Anon. This popped up right below the other book, as an ad, not in the “you might also like” section (so not based on search algorithm, but is a paid ad by the anon author).

Remember on February 20th (2 ✌🏼days before this Willow Bowery book was published to Amazon) when TaylorNation posted the pic of old Taylor from her Funeral in Anti-Hero with the caption “if we won the lotto, we wouldn’t tell anyone. But there would be signs.”

And everyone was all like… wtf? Seemed totally out of the blue.

Here is the description for This Is a Sign - Anon (published to Amazon on Dec. 20, 2023).

Book overview

“For those of us who are looking for a sign that everything will be okay, this is it.

This is a sign. is a stream of consciousness in the form of poetry and prose collected from journals and phone notes written by anon in “the pond” of her twenties, typed on a 1980s Smith Corona Typewriter, and arranged into this collection. At the Tribeca Film Festival Q&A, Taylor reveals that Typewriter in the All Too Well Short Film was an Easter Egg — it was the instrument by which the protagonist, Her, would go on to write her book.

The specific typewriter in the ATW short film was a Smith-Corona, sold under the Sears Cutlass brand.

In the author description on Amazon, it says:

“seeking to soothe souls through poetry and prose”

and provides a link to this website: anonpoetryandprose.com

So naturally, I followed the link and it takes you to a very basic webpage with a notice of the book launch, a link back to the Amazon page, and a banner that scrolls “This is a sign. -This is a sign” continuously.

The sidebar menu has only 2 options: Contact (“send me a sign”) by email, and “Postcards from Poet” for $20 with the following description: Randomly chosen poems from This is a sign. handwritten by me on a locally-sourced vintage postcard and sent to you from wherever I am ✨

Sounds like this mysterious Anon is quite the jetsetter, traveling around the world and sending postcards.

If the Willow Bowery “Tortured Poet” book is a callback to this community, and specifically to the 🎃 anon riddles, then I surmise that, with the bizzaro TN “there will be signs” ig post and the ATW short film typewriter Easter egg… perhaps our mystery author is TS herself, and this book of poetry (I’m guessing written while she recorded at Long Pond at age 29), Is a message to “us” who need reassurances that everything will be okay.

Anyway, long story short I ordered the book. And I think I might get a postcard when she starts her tour again… and see where it’s sent from.

What Kind of Story Can You Do?

Anything. No, wait. I'm afraid you don't believe me. I mean... ANY T H I N G. You want hardcore smut that boarders on problematic? I'm in. You want the fluffiest fluff that ever fluffed and would make Hallmark movies cringe? I got you. Angst? Dark stuff? General? Literally Anything you want. I only have one or two things I'm not comfortable with but that can all be discussed in private, and honestly, after almost 8 years doing this, no one's ever come close to asking for them so you're 1000% good to ask for whatever.

What's the bottom line here?

Well, your story, which will be anywhere from 1,000 - 20,000 words depending on how wordy I get, will be a flat rate of $20. This includes my full attention to your story from start to finish, accompanying art, specific detail inclusion, and an emailed PDF file that you can print out or delete, or whatever you want. It's yours.

I do not write for word counts, only the story. If your complete story can be told in 1k words, that's great. If it takes another 40,000 and we end up with a novel, that's great for you and I won't charge you any more for it! I'm more worried about giving you the best story I can than worrying about word counts.

Commissions are open now until Christmas Eve Eve (Dec 23, 2023).

I will only take FIVE commissions at any time, so best to get to me first. First come, first serve, then I go down the line.

Thanks anon, I hadn't seen the detail on December 2021. Jack's Story added below - thanks @leftamarkonme She might have shared it now so people stop being trauma-core about her Eras performances saying she was crying when she wasn't.

To be honest, if You're Losing me was written in 2021 would not surprise me or change how I view it. He wasn't at the All to Well SNL launch but I thought it was too cynical to say it was over 18 months before the announcement, even if I thought it. Because I think Glitch was written after the Brits in May 2021.

Also, they were seen looking frosty AF at a 2022 Oscars Party and 2022 VMA after party. Maybe she wrote it and they continued to try to make it work for another couple of months to May. Or maybe it was over and they had agreed engagements to give themselves some privacy while they recovered before it went public. I actually hope it is the later because I think making space herself is fantastic.

This is the timeline I had with midnights post:

2020

25 November - In the Long Pond Session Taylor said Joe was William Bowery

16 December - Taylor said to Zane Lowe that Happiness is about ending a long term relationship, she switched to first person

2021

15 March - Grammy's Joe had never come & it was COVID limited, but he won a Grammy for *Album of the year* & I'd say she has the pull for a ticket for a producer of it

April - Folklore credits update to add Joe as producer on 6 songs, including 3 William Bowery wrote, Grammy eligible. No credits for midnights and evermore.

12 May - Taylor was honored with a Global Icon award at the Brits. Harry also there and won. Joe left to film in Belfast the week before

21 August - Joe actually seen with Taylor

14 September - Taylor seen in ireland, seen at conversations with friends cast party

a series of 5 continuous books and 1 spinoff tale centered around this universe’s concept of liminal spaces. what they all have in common is they center on death, Reapers, Witches, magic, possession, and horror, but above all liminal spaces.

Liminal Spaces are defined as the place a person is in during a transitional period. this can be emotionally, physically, metaphysically or all of the above. in this series liminal spaces are more akin to separate planes of existence where death and horror reign supreme and magic is in the air. nothing is impossible and your worst nightmares usually come true.

Hello, everyone! Welcome to my blog!

As outlined here, my New Year’s Resolution for 2024 was to do something for my art every day. Whether writing, drawing, watching/studying, exploring or reading—I’d do something to sharpen my artistic focus daily.

As the year has gone by, I’ve documented some of the process on Tumblr. The tag “#Fiona’s Art Journal” has both reflections and artistic works, and “#Poetry” has an index of poems. This post is an index, and I’ll update it with hyperlinks to journals, art posts, and other favs.

NB: Aside from theatre and art posts, much of this blog is fandom posting about whatever (usually queer) media has most recently captured my interest. You can track various Strange New Worlds, Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, Supergirl and House of the Dragon rotations (to name a few), along with other shows/movies on my list. I will probably spend the rest of 2024 crying about Agatha All Along (as WandaVision is an all-time favorite media & I’ve waited 2 years, since the night before I graduated undergrad, for Jac Schaeffer to fix this mess).
