𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗲 - 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻 𝗔 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝗼 𝗩𝗮𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗗𝗮𝘆 Paper lanterns hung in the air as I walked into the Origami Kingdom. I stepped on the ground and felt an immediate sense of relief and joy. The fresh scent of spring air and cherry blossoms filled the kingdom. The Paper Palace looked like it could float away with the slightest wind, yet it stood strong against any weather and had survived many attacks. The structure, composed of intricate folded paper, seemed to move in slow motion as I approached the entrance. At the front gate, I met guards who led me through the winding corridors of the palace. I passed several origami sculptures depicting the origin of the kingdom. When the guards reached the throne room, my eyes fell upon the Origami King. I had never seen someone so regal, so handsome, and so imposing in my life. He wore an origami mask that covered his entire face. There weren't many details about him in my memories, however, this man radiated such power that my entire body shuddered just thinking of what would happen if I ever crossed him. "Your Majesty," I bowed. "Princess Neve," he said, his features blocked by his mask, "what brings you to my kingdom?" Today’s prompt for #WriterFriendsChallenge is “Writer Rest”. December is the perfect time of the year for rest. I’ve basically been grinding all year. I’ve written two books and revised another and been in and out of the query trenches. So, to say the least, I’m exhausted. To wind down, I’ll admit that I love to watch holiday films. I adore the classics like “Miracle on 34th St.” and “Holiday Inn”, but I also swoon over movies like “While You Were Sleeping” and “The Holiday”. I’m also a sappy fan of Hallmark movies. The one pictured here is not from Hallmark but has become one of my favorites year after year. Super sweet. Romantic. And this one hits the trifecta with an air of mystery to it. UPDATE: I put in 2k words this week. Finally back to writing after going through 2 pretty hellish weeks of not feeling well mentally and physically. 🤢 Bouncing back feels good and so does getting some clarity in my story again! 📖 I’m getting a better picture here of what the story is supposed to be about. (Get ready for some major culty Easter eggs!!!! 🥚) It’s been evolving for the last 6 years and I also now know that I haven’t done enough research. 🧐 I am allowing myself time to finish at my own pace and I’m not going to rush it. My 90 day goal is still in place! However today was day 45 so I guess we will see what happens! 3 months may turn into 6 for a rough draft. I won’t be mad if the end product it better quality! I mean, I do work more than 40 hours every week. I type constantly for work and my job is highly stressful! ❄️WEIGHING IT UP❄️ What's one thing you love about writing your current work in progress... and one part you really do not enjoy? Writing a novel is like stepping into a world of endless possibilities. The imagination runs wild and the characters come to life in ways you never thought possible. However, as with any journey, there are bound to be some obstacles along the way. One of the biggest challenges I face as a fantasy author is the dreaded 'middle of the book slump.' It's that point where the excitement of the beginning has worn off and the end is still not in sight. It's easy to lose motivation and wonder if all the time and effort put into the story is worth it. But that's the beauty of writing, it's all a test of perseverance. It's about pushing through the difficult parts and coming out the other side with a story that you're proud of. So, to all my fellow writers out there, keep pushing. Keep writing. I write because I reflect. I reflect because I overthink. I overthink because I am scared. I’ve been thinking about this phrase a lot lately. When you are at a crossroads in your career, you tend to think about all the options. When you are a writer it becomes a question as to whether or not you want to continue being a storyteller. You think about all the things stacked against you. The narrow percentage in your favor to get an agent. The even smaller percentage to get a book deal. On top of that, you have to think about all the processes put in place in publishing that can keep you from being successful. Perhaps any normal person would look at the reality of the situation and consider giving up. For me, that has never been an option. I’m not sure if it’s my personality or my inane sense to prove people wrong, but in spite of all the rejection and disappointment associated with publishing, I haven’t considered throwing in the towel. At every turn, I see the pitfalls of publishing as a challenge. A chance to prove all the naysayers wrong. This either makes me very ambitious or a little delusional, but none of that matters. To me, I can’t imagine a world where I’m not putting words on the page. Breathing life into characters I know deserve a voice. So despite the deep canyons of this business, I continue to plod ahead.
