can you recommend any good lance posts or fic to read?
oh. oh. oh boy do i have some fic recs for YOU
if anyone who sees this has other recommendations, please feel free to respond in the tags or in the replies! hope you enjoy - and welcome to lance nation!!!!
(i will try to keep it not just a strollonso fic rec list, yes they're my main but i don't want to give a biased list to the masses. this is a lance fic list, not just strollonso.)
so. without further ado...
allie's lance fic recs (in no particular order)
steak and other strange situations | lance/yuki | G | @lil-shiro
-> bet you didn't expect a rare pair ship as my first recommendation, huh? frankly i love the characterization that ann has utilized here - just a guy that wants to get to know people. simple yet effective!
gone before sunrise | lance/fernando | E | zeolyte
-> oogh this one is a real kicker. i couldn't tell you why my stomach churns while reading the middle of this piece. you can really feel for lance in this one and yes it does end happy (as most if not all of the fics in here will have in common with), but if you are okay with explicit material, this is a must read.
baby hotline (please hold me close to you) | lance/esteban/mick | T | @shovson
-> woohoo my ot3!!!! we dont get to see a lot of this pairing per se, but we get a lot of seb & lance running the iconic baby hotline, an advice service lance starts to help others with anything they need, like mick and estie once did for him. lovely cameos from multiple drivers.
press enter and send it | lance/esteban | E | gothic_sevgilim
-> HOO BABY is this one HOT. office au in which lance is the sassy trainee of esteban, a minor manager at lance's father's company. the tension in here is NUTS man
between your collar and your jaw | lance/sebastian | E | @hurricane-heatt
-> if you know me you know how much i fuck with cowboys. THEN you should by association know that i would never pass up a cowboy au. THIS is what a cowboy au should look like. passionate, yet leaves you in a cloud of dust by the side of the dirt road, knowing you'll never see this man and his steed again.
clerestory | pierre/charles with a side of lance/fernando | E | @nobrakesdown
-> woah. i thought this was a lance fic list?? this is our wildcard for the list. lance only appears in this fic as a historical figure in the wild royal mystery pierre is studying as he heals from an injury after a major crash. frankly i just wanted to add this one because it genuinely is one of my favorite fics on the site and since it vaguely has lance in it, i will be including it
never too soon | lance/george | G | @userkritaaay
-> stressed unstoppable force george meets relaxed immovable object lance. this is just lance and george suffering together after singapore 2023. delightful
you're my fucking hero: the critic's review | lance/fernando | M | me. i wrote this
-> finally, who would i be on this site without a bit of self promo. the love labor of @no00000000's wonderful dirtbag au, in which lance learns to live and pursue his own passions after a run in with a rough criminal, fernando. it is formatted as a movie review for a hypothetical movie, inspired by the essays i would write while in my history of film course years ago.
#please please if you find your fic in here and you are NOT tagged let me know!#or if you are tagged and prefer not to be#PLEASE dm me n i can get that fixed for u <3#fic recs#strollonso#glance#lance/yuki#esteban/lance/mick#lance/seb#estelance#i want to tag piarles but i dont wanna clog that tag sorry#anon#ask#answered#thank you anon so so much. hope you enjoy. welcome to lance nation!!!

Richard Woodman
Writer who drew on his own experience at sea in a series of novels and historical works about the British merchant navy
The end was anticlimax. We slipped home unnoticed. Britain turned no hair at our arrival, as just as she has turned no hair at our extinction.” When Richard Woodman published Voyage East in 1988, he knew that the mercantile world depicted within it, which he had joined aged 16, was gone.
The first-person novel – which never reads like fiction – describes the voyage of a cargo liner carrying goods and passengers from Liverpool to Singapore, Hong Kong, Kobe and Shanghai in the mid-1960s. There is a moment, off the coast of Borneo, when the captain sees a vessel with half a dozen grey aluminium boxes on her foredeck: “What the devil are they?” he asks the pilot. “‘They’re containers, Captain,’ the Pilot replied, and no one on the bridge heard the sentence of death pronounced upon us.”
Woodman, who has died aged 80, became the memorialist of the merchant fleets. Between 2008 and 2016 he wrote the history of the British merchant navy in five volumes, followed by A Low Set of Blackguards, a two-volume history (2016-17) of the East India Company.
His outstanding contribution came through his three second world war convoy histories: Arctic Convoys (1994), Malta Convoys (2000) and The Real Cruel Sea (2005). These are works of passion, based on experience and scrupulous research.
The loss of life among merchant seamen was proportionately greater than in any of the armed services and the recognition they received far less. From the beginning of the war a seafarer’s pay was stopped the minute his ship was sunk. “Time spent fighting for his life on a float or lifeboat was an unpaid excursion,” wrote Woodman.
While Winston Churchill acknowledged the crucial importance of the Battle of the Atlantic to national survival, it was not until 2012 that those who had served in the Arctic convoys, and had taken the highest casualties of all, were retrospectively honoured.
Born in north London, Richard was the elder son of Rosalie (nee Cann) and Douglas Woodman, a civil service administrator. Though he was far from the sea, his imagination was captured by the works of Arthur Ransome, Daniel Defoe, RM Ballantyne and Alan Villiers, and his enthusiasm nurtured by Sea Scout membership.
He was the youngest member of the Sea Scout crew that sailed the ex-German yawl Nordwind in the 1960 Tall Ships race and, despite failing all but two of his O-levels, he was accepted as an indentured apprentice with the Alfred Holt (Blue Funnel) line in 1960.
His first long trip to Australia came as a midshipman on the SS Glenarty, returning via the US: “I had been round the world before I would have been allowed inside a British pub.” Life on board ship took place in an uncompromising, all-male environment: the almost compulsory swearing, drinking and sexist banter encouraged the development of “a carapace behind which we hid our private selves”.
Woodman responded eagerly to the hands-on education in seamanship and navigation, developed his writing and sketching through the log-keeping and read his way through the excellent ships’ libraries provided by the Marine Society. He completed his four-year apprenticeship and gained his second mate’s certificate. He was, however, in love and hated saying goodbye to his girlfriend, Christine Hite, an art student, for many months at a time.
He left Blue Funnel in the mid-1960s and went to work for the Ocean Weather Service, where he discovered how vicious the North Atlantic winter weather systems could be – and how pitilessly an ex-second world war corvette would roll. Fortunately it was not long before a temporary position became available with Trinity House, the corporation charged with the maintenance of navigation marks around England, Wales and the Channel Islands.
The position became permanent; he and Christine married in 1969 and settled in Harwich, Essex, near the Trinity House east coast depot, and he served the corporation for most of the rest of his life.
The work at sea was varied, challenging, sometimes dangerous. Precise navigation, seamanship and attention to detail were essential qualities, but Woodman also found time to write. His first novel, The Eye of the Fleet, was published in 1981. This introduced a series of 14 adventures featuring the young Nathaniel Drinkwater, a hero somewhat in the Horatio Hornblower mode but bearing the unmistakable stamp of a writer who was also a sailor.
Despite his professional career being in motorised vessels, Woodman loved traditional gaff-rigged yachts, particularly his own Kestrel and then Andromeda, in which he and Christine explored the east coast rivers and beyond. The action of his nautical novels often turns on neat, seamanlike manoeuvres as well as including varied and closely observed seascapes.
His productivity was astonishing. He often wrote two or three novels a year and soon added non-fiction to his output. When he became captain of Trinity House Vessel Patricia, he achieved this by having two desks, one from which he could conduct official business, the other hidden behind a door, with a page from the work in progress always ready in the typewriter.
Meanwhile, in his job he was extremely focused, conscientious and painstaking. Although some remember him as being of the “old school”, Jill Kernick, the first woman in almost 500 years to work at sea for Trinity House, credits him with helping her break through traditional barriers in the early 80s.
In 1997 Woodman retired to write full time, but was soon elected a Younger Brother of Trinity House, and then an Elder Brother, the first time a former employee was accorded this honour. He was diagnosed with cancer in 2003 but there was no let-up in his work rate. His last completed novel, A River in Borneo (2022), harks back to 60s Indonesia but sets its final scene in a Colchester hospice.
He is survived by Christine and their children, Abigail and Edward, and grandson, Arlo.

Freyr Submits 400+ HBEL (PDE/ADE & OEL) Reports in 2024
Freyr is pleased to announce the feat of delivering 400+ Permitted Daily Exposure (PDE) or Acceptable Daily Exposure (ADE) reports in the calendar year 2024. The submissions also included standalone Occupational Exposure Limit (OEL) reports and combined PDE/ADE and OEL reports for more than twenty-five (25) global pharmaceutical companies. The ADE/PDE values are used in the calculation of cleaning limits in the pharmaceutical cleaning validation process. With the recommendation on the requirement of PDE/ADE determinations to be based on a health-based approach by EMEA and other Regulatory agencies, there is high demand for good quality ADE/PDE assessment reports in the pharma manufacturing world. Similarly, OEL values help ensure the occupational safety of the workers in the pharma manufacturing setup. The determination of ADE/PDE and OEL values requires a great understanding of pharmacology and toxicology, along with expertise in pharmaceutical risk assessment. Therefore, Regulatory agencies insist on the scientific credentials and experience of toxicologists involved in drafting and approval of ADE/PDE and OEL reports. Freyr’s highly experienced and qualified toxicologists (Diplomate American Board of Toxicology and European Registered Toxicologists) have developed and submitted 400+ ADE/PDE and OEL reports for 25+ global customers from various countries like the US, UK, EU, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Egypt, Indonesia, Malaysia, Bangladesh, and India. Freyr does not sell or encourage readily available ADE/PDE or OEL reports but always customizes its ADE/PDE or OEL reports with the latest data/information as of current. In addition, Freyr toxicologists have also supported the customers in their cleaning validation, including handling audit queries related to ADE/PDE assessment at no additional cost. With its customer-centric approach, Freyr has been proudly serving more than 150 pharmaceutical companies across the world in their ADE/PDE or OEL and other toxicological risk assessment requirements for several years. Freyr has a 20+ highly qualified and experienced team of nonclinical experts and toxicologists dedicated to supporting Regulatory toxicology and nonclinical writing activities. “We are delighted to announce the successful submission of more than 400+ PDE/ADE & OEL reports in 2024,” said Satyanarayana Krishnamurthy, Senior Vice President and Head of Medicinal Products Division at Freyr. “With these consecutive submissions, Freyr has once again proved as one of the most preferred partners when it comes to risk assessment reports,” Satyanarayana added. Acknowledging Freyr’s expertise in ADE/PDE and OEL services, one of our US-based generic pharmaceutical clients responded, “Awesome, great work Freyr toxicology team. How to Create SEO-Friendly Content for Blogs
Creating SEO-friendly content for blogs is essential for improving your website's visibility and driving organic traffic. Whether you’re a seasoned content creator or new to blogging, understanding the basics of SEO can help ensure your posts are optimized for search engines and engaging for readers. Working with a search engine optimisation company Singapore can provide the expertise needed to elevate your content strategy. This blog explores effective techniques for crafting SEO-friendly content that ranks well on search engines while keeping your audience engaged.
1. Understand Your Audience and Search Intent
Before you start writing, it's important to understand your target audience and what they're searching for. SEO-friendly content addresses the needs of the user while aligning with search intent. By identifying relevant keywords and phrases that your audience is using, you can create content that meets their expectations. A search engine optimisation company Singapore can assist in conducting keyword research to pinpoint the best terms to target for your blog posts.
Perform keyword research: Use tools like Google Keyword Planner or SEMrush to find high-volume, relevant keywords.
Focus on search intent: Understand whether your audience is looking for information, products, or services.
Create content that answers questions: Address the queries your audience is likely to search for.
2. Optimize for On-Page SEO
On-page SEO refers to optimizing individual blog pages to improve rankings and enhance user experience. There are several key factors to consider when optimizing your blog content. These include using targeted keywords in strategic places, ensuring your blog is mobile-friendly, and having a well-structured layout. A search engine optimisation company Singapore can help with technical aspects such as optimizing title tags, meta descriptions, and image alt text.
Title tags and meta descriptions: Include relevant keywords and ensure they are concise and compelling.
Headers and subheadings: Break content into easy-to-read sections using H1, H2, and H3 tags, with keywords in subheadings.
Image optimization: Use descriptive file names and alt text to improve visibility in search results.
3. Focus on High-Quality Content
Search engines prioritize high-quality content that provides real value to users. SEO-friendly content should be informative, well-written, and original. Google rewards content that answers the user’s query in a comprehensive manner, so aim to create in-depth blog posts that cover a topic thoroughly. Content that engages readers, encourages sharing, and generates backlinks will improve your SEO ranking.
Provide valuable information: Focus on delivering useful and relevant content that answers the user’s questions.
Avoid keyword stuffing: Use keywords naturally throughout the content to maintain readability and avoid penalties.
Use long-form content: Longer posts (1000+ words) tend to rank better because they cover topics more thoroughly.
4. Optimize for Mobile Devices
With the increasing number of people browsing the internet on mobile devices, having mobile-friendly content is crucial for SEO. Google uses mobile-first indexing, meaning it ranks websites based on their mobile version. If your blog isn't optimized for mobile, you risk losing valuable traffic and rankings. Ensure your website and blog are responsive and provide a seamless experience across all devices.
Use responsive design: Ensure your blog adapts to different screen sizes and devices.
Test for mobile usability: Regularly check your website’s mobile performance using tools like Google’s Mobile-Friendly Test.
Optimize page speed: Mobile users are less likely to stay on a slow-loading page, so prioritize fast load times.
5. Integrate Internal and External Links
Both internal and external links are valuable for SEO. Internal links help search engines crawl and index your site, while external links to authoritative sources can improve the credibility of your content. Including a balance of both types of links in your blog posts boosts your SEO and enhances the user experience.
Internal links: Link to other relevant blog posts and pages on your website to improve site structure.
External links: Link to high-authority, relevant external sources to enhance content credibility.
Avoid excessive linking: Too many links can make your content look spammy, so keep it balanced and natural.
6. Focus on User Experience (UX)
User experience is an important ranking factor for search engines. Blogs that are easy to navigate, visually appealing, and user-friendly tend to have lower bounce rates and higher engagement. A positive UX signals to search engines that your content is valuable. Ensure your blog design is clean, and your content is readable and accessible.
Keep paragraphs short: Break long paragraphs into shorter ones to make your content easier to read.
Use clear calls-to-action (CTAs): Encourage readers to take action, such as subscribing to your newsletter or sharing the post.
Design for readability: Use contrasting colors, adequate font sizes, and whitespace to make your blog easy to consume.
7. Leverage Social Sharing
Social media signals, while not a direct ranking factor, can still influence SEO by increasing visibility and driving traffic to your content. Share your blog posts across your social media channels and encourage readers to share them as well. Social shares increase engagement, attract backlinks, and contribute to higher search rankings.
Add social share buttons: Make it easy for readers to share your blog on their social media profiles.
Promote on social media: Share your blog across platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn to reach a larger audience.
Encourage engagement: Ask readers to comment and share their thoughts to create a conversation around your content.
Conclusion
Creating SEO-friendly content for blogs requires a combination of strategic keyword usage, high-quality content creation, and technical optimization. By focusing on user intent, mobile optimization, internal and external linking, and providing value, you can craft blog posts that both search engines and readers will love. If you're unsure about how to implement these tactics, partnering with a search engine optimisation company Singapore can help you refine your approach and drive more organic traffic to your website. By following these best practices, your blog will not only rank higher but also engage your audience more effectively, ultimately leading to greater success in your SEO journey.

From retail to freelance gigs, discover opportunities that align with your lifestyle. Take the first step towards earning and building your future. Start now and find your match!
The Rise of Freelancing in Singapore Freelancing is experiencing significant growth in Singapore, and this trend is being driven by several factors:
a. The Shift Toward Flexible Work Arrangements More companies in Singapore are embracing flexible working arrangements due to the changing global work culture. The COVID-19 pandemic played a crucial role in accelerating this shift, with many businesses adopting remote work policies and discovering the benefits of outsourcing tasks to freelancers. As a result, there is now an increasing demand for part-time freelance work across various industries, allowing professionals to work on their terms.
b. A Highly Skilled Workforce Singapore boasts a highly skilled workforce, with many individuals having expertise in specialized areas like software development, digital marketing, design, and writing. As businesses seek skilled professionals for short-term projects, freelancers are filling this gap by offering their services on a contract basis. The trend is especially evident in sectors that require specific technical skills, as companies prefer hiring freelancers for short-term needs rather than committing to full-time employment contracts.
c. Technology and Digital Platforms The rise of digital platforms and gig economy websites has made it easier than ever for freelancers to find opportunities. Platforms like Upwork, Freelancer, Fiverr, and local sites like Freelance Singapore connect businesses with talented freelancers across various fields. These platforms provide a wide array of part-time freelance job listings, from content writing to web development, digital marketing, and design.
Benefits of Freelance Part-Time Jobs Freelancing offers numerous advantages that make it an attractive option for those seeking part-time work. Here are some of the key benefits:
a. Flexibility One of the most significant advantages of freelancing is flexibility. As a freelancer, you have the ability to choose your own working hours, work from home, or even travel while working. You can select the projects that align with your interests and skill set, making it a perfect option for those who want to balance work with personal commitments or pursue other passions.
b. Work-Life Balance Freelancers often enjoy a better work-life balance compared to traditional part-time employees. Without the need to commute to an office or adhere to a rigid schedule, freelancers can structure their days in a way that suits their lifestyle. This is particularly beneficial for parents, students, and caregivers who need to manage family responsibilities alongside their work.
c. Diverse Opportunities Freelancing offers a diverse range of opportunities that can help you build a varied portfolio of work. Whether you're a writer, designer, developer, or marketer, freelance platforms provide access to clients from around the world, enabling you to work on projects in different industries and enhance your skills. This diversity helps you stay engaged and motivated, as you’re constantly exposed to new challenges.
d. Higher Earning Potential Freelancers often have the opportunity to set their own rates based on their skills and experience. In some cases, freelancers can earn more per hour or project than traditional part-time workers. Since freelancers are not bound by salary structures, they can take on multiple projects simultaneously, potentially increasing their income over time.
Popular Freelance Part-Time Job Categories in Singapore Freelance part-time jobs in Singapore span multiple industries, and with the growth of the digital economy, there are more opportunities than ever to explore. Here are some of the most in-demand freelance job categories:
a. Digital Marketing and Social Media Management As businesses continue to strengthen their online presence, digital marketing and social media management have become vital parts of any business strategy. Freelancers with expertise in search engine optimization (SEO), social media content creation, pay-per-click (PPC) advertising, and email marketing are in high demand. These roles can be done part-time, allowing you to work with multiple clients and help businesses grow their digital footprint.
b. Content Creation and Writing Content creation is one of the fastest-growing freelance categories in Singapore. Whether it's blog writing, copywriting, technical writing, or scriptwriting, companies are increasingly outsourcing their content needs to skilled freelancers. If you have a way with words, this is an excellent field for flexible part-time work.
Blogging: Many businesses and websites need consistent blog content to keep their audience engaged. Freelance bloggers can create content on a wide range of topics, from lifestyle to business, technology, and health. Copywriting: Copywriting is in demand for creating promotional materials, ad copy, product descriptions, and more. Freelance copywriters help brands create persuasive content that drives sales. c. Web Development and Graphic Design Technology-related freelance jobs, particularly in web development and graphic design, have a consistent demand in Singapore. As businesses look to create or upgrade their websites, hire designers for branding, or build custom apps, skilled developers and designers are sought after.
Freelance web developers can work on projects such as website design, backend development, app creation, and more. Meanwhile, freelance graphic designers often work on branding, logos, social media graphics, and marketing materials.
d. Virtual Assistance Virtual assistants (VAs) offer administrative support remotely, helping businesses with tasks like email management, calendar scheduling, customer support, data entry, and more. This role can easily be done part-time and allows for flexible working hours. As more entrepreneurs and small businesses turn to remote operations, the demand for VAs continues to rise.
e. Translation and Language Services Singapore's multilingual environment makes it a great place for individuals offering freelance translation or interpretation services. If you are proficient in multiple languages, such as English, Mandarin, Malay, or Tamil, you can offer translation services for documents, websites, or marketing materials.
How to Start Freelancing in Singapore If you're ready to dive into the world of freelance part-time work, here are some steps to help you get started:
a. Build a Portfolio One of the first things you’ll need is a portfolio that showcases your work. Whether it’s a personal website or a profile on freelance platforms, having a collection of your best work is crucial. A strong portfolio helps potential clients assess your skills and decide whether you’re the right fit for their project.
b. Join Freelance Platforms Sign up for freelance platforms like Upwork, Freelancer, or Fiverr to find part-time job opportunities. These platforms allow you to bid on projects, set your rates, and gain exposure to global clients. You can also explore local platforms like Freelance Singapore for Singapore-specific opportunities.
c. Network and Market Yourself Freelancing often involves a significant amount of self-promotion. Use LinkedIn, social media platforms, and industry-specific forums to network with potential clients. Join freelancing communities where you can connect with other freelancers, share experiences, and get referrals.
d. Set Clear Terms and Expectations When negotiating with clients, make sure to set clear expectations regarding timelines, rates, and payment terms. It's important to have a contract in place for every project, ensuring that both parties are on the same page regarding deliverables.
Conclusion Freelance part-time jobs in Singapore are becoming an increasingly popular and viable career option for those seeking flexibility, autonomy, and diverse opportunities. With the growing demand for skilled professionals across various industries, freelancing allows individuals to make a living while enjoying the freedom to choose their work hours and projects. Whether you’re looking to supplement your income, switch careers, or work remotely, freelancing in Singapore offers endless possibilities for professional growth and personal fulfillment.

How to Choose the Right Tax Service for Your Colorado Business
Living up to the basic tax laws is a challenging experience for any business income in Singapore. It does not matter whether one is running a new business or whether you are running an already established business; it will be extremely important that you get the right tax service that will assist you. The following are some tips you need to consider while searching for service providers to help your Colorado-based business with its taxes.
Understand Your Needs
Like any other facet of operations, taxes cannot be generalized since every business has its own recommendation based on its size, structure, or line of specialty operations. However, it is advisable to define the particular requirements you will be looking for before you begin. Do you want assistance with bookkeeping tax services in Colorado? Alternatively, do you wish to learn more about dealing with business income in Singapore? Some of the tax services may have a niche, meaning that if they know your priorities, you will help them address what you need.
See Credentials and Experience
Governing laws associated with taxes are intricate and keep changing from country to country and state. For example, business taxation laws in California will not be the same as those in Colorado. Ensure that the provider employs professionals who are certified in the fields you require, especially if your company has branches. You should look for licenses, certificates and accreditation, like the CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or EA (Enrolled Agent).
Evaluate Technology and Tools
In the modern world, most of the tax services utilize technology in one or another aspect of their work. Many solutions related to financial management, such as cloud bookkeeping, digital invoicing, and tax preparation software, enhance the financial management process. When looking for bookkeeping tax services in Colorado, ask whether the service provider utilizes certain tools and if you can access your records online.
Evaluate Communication & Support
One may or may not find dealing with taxes entertaining. However, the way to go about it requires good communication. A good tax service will always be easily accessible for consultation, especially when it is eased, such as during the tax filing period. Inquire when and how they respond to a customer’s questions and whether they offer frequent reports on your financial state.
Review Client Feedback
Therefore, It is very critical to take your time and find out the various tax services to approach them. Check the websites for comments and inquire from other business counterparts operating in Colorado. This is so because recommendations from other satisfied clients on the accuracy, timeliness, and professionalism of the various writing services can keep you supported in your choice.
Consider Pricing
But it is worth considering that cheap services can cost more than paying a little more for better quality services. This makes them carry out their duties cheaply and thus increase their rate of making mistakes or failing to deduct some important amounts accordant to your interests. One of these is to compare your current pricing structure and check the corresponding value you give to your customers.
Conclusion
Selecting the best tax service to work with should ease your business operations and allow you to concentrate on expansion. To get complete and professional assistance, it is ideal to work with Optimize Tax LLC. Bookkeeping tax services in Colorado, multi-state taxation, international taxation, business taxation in California, or business income in Singapore, EDX consulting is ready to become your business ally.

Charles Handy
Philosopher and management thinker who coined the phrase ‘portfolio’ career, and believed companies should retain their humanity
For a country that prides itself on its professional and financial services sector, the UK has produced remarkably few world-ranking management and organisational thinkers. At the very top of that pile, however, is Charles Handy, the writer and social philosopher – his preferred designation – who has died aged 92.
As both a thinker and educator, Handy was unusual. Although a professor – he was a founding faculty member of the London Business School (LBS), the UK’s first graduate business school, in the 1960s – he never followed the conventional path, ploughing a narrow furrow and publishing in specialist journals.
What he did was think, about the big human issues of business, society and democracy, turning his thoughts, often anchored in his own experience, into books, articles and talks with characteristically evocative titles such as The Age of Unreason (1989), The Empty Raincoat (1994), The Hungry Spirit (1997) and The Second Curve (2015). They gained him an international audience and global sales of more than 2m.
In his ability to perceive and articulate developments in the world of work before they crystallised, and in his big-picture approach, Handy took after another atypical European academic, Peter Drucker, dubbed the “father of management”, whom Handy admired. Handy was writing about the future of work as early as 1984, foresaw an era of discontinuous change in The Age of Unreason – his breakthrough book – as well as predicting the advent of the gig economy, remote working and the fragmentation of the traditional career. The “portfolio life” was his coinage, which he defined by living it.
In management terms, Handy’s legacy is his steadfast defence of the company as an evolving community of people rather than a machine or set of contracts. This was based on an unshakeable belief in humanity – “humanity will triumph – people need people”, he said in a podcast interview in 2021, at the height of a pandemic lockdown.
To thrive, a company had to make space for human purpose, human balance and human fulfilment. “Doing your best at what you are best at,” was his Aristotelian recipe, adding “for the benefit of others” at the end. This fed into his belief that the organisation of the future needed to be flexible, decentralised and built on trust rather than formal hierarchy and a rule book.
Born in Ireland, in Clane, Co Kildare, the son of Joan (nee Scott) and Brian Handy, a Protestant clergyman, Charles went to Bromsgrove school, Worcestershire, then studied classics at Oriel college, Oxford, from which he absorbed influences that marked his thinking throughout his life.
Just as formative was his first job at an outpost of Shell in Borneo in 1956, only doubly so: first because it was while there that he met Elizabeth Hill, then working at the British High Commission in Singapore, at a party in Kuala Lumpur, and second because, with her trenchant help, it showed him what he did not want to be. They married in 1962.
The epiphany came in 1965, when he found himself back in London, in an anonymous shared office at Shell HQ, greeted by a three-page list of responsibilities on his desk with no name on it. That struck him as not very human. Liz more forcefully gave him to understand that seeing the adventurous expat she had met and married turn into a dull office drudge was not part of their life’s plan.
Instead he relocated to the US – another formative experience – to attend the Sloan executive study programme at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, from which he returned to London in 1967 to set up a UK version of the programme at the LBS.
He endowed it with a humanistic cast far removed from the usual finance and quantitative orientation. “Charles always had a sense of what it is to be human,” his friend and close LBS colleague Lynda Gratton said. “He inspired students, readers and friends to think more deeply, question more profoundly and live a life nearer to being human – with all its complexities and questions.”
Handy left LBS for a four-year stint as warden of St George’s House at Windsor Castle (1977-81), a sort of spiritual thinktank, before, again egged on by Liz, deciding to quit and go freelance as a writer and speaker. They reorganised their life, and, half-joked Handy, rewrote their marriage contract.
Henceforth they would split the year in two, with the work of first one, then the other, taking priority. Liz became his formidable agent as well as resuming her own career as a successful photographer – they subsequently collaborated on several books – and their time would be spent half in their former farm labourer’s cottage in rural Norfolk and half in their London home. They also shared cooking duties for the many visitors who arrived at both places to discuss world events, photography and politics over a generous lunch.
Relishing the new regime, Handy launched into a series of books that conquered an audience stretching far beyond business types. In fact, the latter were sometimes dismayed by what he had to say. He rejected shareholder capitalism, deeming shareholder ownership of companies a fiction and a fraud, and fretted that big corporations had become “prisons of the soul”.
For him, “good organisations are like a small English village. Everyone knows each other and what the other does. There’s no job title, you’re just Charles or Liz, and you help each other out. It’s not owned, people belong to it.” In those circumstances, management becomes a matter of common sense, not the technocratic exercises described in the textbooks he scorned.
If Handy’s writing style was conversational and accessible, his speaking could reach heights worthy of the ancients he had learned from. This was done without bravado, PowerPoint or notes, but with a quiet intensity that made every listener feel as if he was addressing them personally.
It was there that his inner firebrand sometimes surfaced. Few of those present will forget his closing speech, or the spontaneous standing ovation it prompted, at the Global Peter Drucker Forum in Vienna in 2018, when he called for a Lutheran Reformation of management, urging the audience not to wait for a great leader but “to start small fires in the darkness, until they spread and the whole world is alight with a better vision of what we could do with our businesses … If not us, then who? If not now, then when?”
Handy was active almost until the last. His final book, suitably titled The View from Ninety: Reflections on Living a Long, Contented Life, is due for publication in 2025.
Liz died in a car accident in 2018. Handy is survived by his son and daughter, Scott and Kate, four grandchildren and by two sisters, Ruth and Margaret.

Top 5 Resume Writing Techniques for Job Seekers
Writing a resume is the art that looks not only for excellent writing skills, but also capability to go beyond the confines of the page. A well-crafted resume brings you in contact not only with probable employers but also puts your exclusive skills, experiences, and qualifications into concise and appealing words. Ensuring that your resume captures the attention of hiring managers for that precious few seconds is crucial in the highly competitive present-day job market. These are five resume writing services Singapore techniques used to impress recruiters to get you the job. And here are five of them.
1. Tailor Your Resume with Job-Specific Keywords
Probably, one of the most effective resume-writing tricks is tailoring your resume for every application. Most employers use Applicant Tracking Systems to sift through resumes, so using this approach, you just wouldn't stand a chance when applying anywhere. It scans through every word in your resume and deletes the ones it thinks are not relevant for the job you applied for, leading to your resume being disregarded before a human ever looks at it.
First, diligently read through the job posting to uncover pertinent skills, qualifications, and job responsibilities. If a job ad requires "data analysis" or "project management," include those keywords in your resume. Don't sprinkle keywords randomly throughout your resume. Instead, try to have them appear organically throughout your work experience, skills, and summary sections. That way, you'll have much better prospects of making it past the ATS filters and reaching the recruiter's desk.
2. Use a Professional Font and Structure
A resume should be attractive to the eye, and very easy to read especially for hiring managers who go through hundreds or thousands of applications. Choosing an appropriate font, and form will ensure that the resume presents your information clearly and in a professional manner.
Use clear readable fonts such as Arial or Times New Roman, and set the font size to 10-12 points. Bold or italic formatting is to be used sparingly-only for your name, headings, and job titles. You must, however, keep the formatting uniform throughout the entire resume.
You have to manage white space as well. Avoid too much white space, but at the same time, you definitely do not want to end up with a page that has too many words cluttered into it. Make sure that your text and white space are balanced through the manipulation of margins and sections such as "Skills" or "Achievements" if necessary.
3. Focus on Achievements, Not Just Job Duties
Many candidates make the mistake of including all the job duties they ever had. Instead, describe the achievements. The employers are interested in how you contributed to that role, rather than what the responsibilities were.
Write "managed a team," instead of writing "led a team of 10 employees to increase productivity by 20% within six months." Use a number to quantify that achievement, be it percentage increases, cost reductions, or numbers of successful projects- anything to make a resume speak results-oriented.
Another approach is to have a specific "Achievements" section if you have numerous things you would like to draw attention to especially if they demonstrate leadership, problem-solving, or innovative capabilities. Evidence of how you have added value in your previous roles will make it easier for hiring managers to realise the kind of value you can add to their company.
4. Use Active Language and Power Verbs
A great resume contains very few words but high-impact use of them. Be as active as possible, with powerful verbs such as "achieved," "developed," "managed," and "improved" in your work history and in accomplishments. This makes you sound confident and suggests direct contributions to previous employers.
For example, whereas the passive wording "Was responsible for maintaining the company's software system," uses the action-oriented wording that reads: " Orchestrated a company-wide software update, improving operational efficiency by 30 percent." This wording will not only shorten the phrase but will instead accord you greater weightage through the emphasising of your leadership role and quantifiable results.
Avoid passive or vague terms, such as "assisted with" or "helped to," since these suggest less meat in your experience. Instead, use active verbs that demonstrate initiative and produce results.
5. Proofread and Edit Thoroughly
Therefore, prior to the submission of a resume, it is a must to check for any errors that have crept into the document. Spelling or grammatical mistakes will give an impression of you being careless and undermining your professionalism. Even minor errors can leave impressions on hiring managers that may end up costing your job.
If you do all the above, then also ask a trusted friend, colleague or mentor to review it. Sometimes, a fresh set of eyes is able to point out some mistakes or suggest some enhancements that you would have overlooked. Another important point is to see to it that your resume presents information in a logical sequence. For example, work experience should be separated from education and skills from other areas.
You may need to revise it several times, perfecting the expression and presentation, until your resume is the best it can be. All that time you dedicate to fine-tuning your resume will pay off in the end when it gets you that interview.
Conclusion
In today's job market, a good resume can be the difference between getting hired and becoming one of the many unemployed who have no visible prospects. Tailoring your resume to the job with relevant keywords, professional formatting, accomplishment-based resume, using active language, and proofreading will help you create an effective resume that boosts your chances at succeeding during this application. These five resume writing Singapore techniques will help you present your qualifications in the best light, increasing your chances to appear on the interview list and, eventually, receive job offers. The Key Differences Between No Code, Low Code, and Full-Code Development
Introduction
In today's fast-paced digital era, software development has become a cornerstone for businesses striving to innovate and stay competitive.
From simple applications to complex enterprise systems, the approach to building software plays a significant role in project success. No Code, Low Code, and Full-Code platforms dominate the landscape, each addressing diverse skill levels and objectives.
According to recent surveys, over 65% of organizations are adopting No Code or Low Code solutions to reduce time-to-market and development costs. However, traditional Full-Code development continues to thrive for projects demanding scalability and custom features.
Understanding the nuances of these approaches is essential to choosing the right method and team for your project. If you’re looking for the Best Software Developers in Singapore, knowing your needs will help you make a confident choice.
Exploring the Three SolutionsEvery business has unique needs, and there isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer to selecting the right development approach. It’s important to learn about each solution and assess which one aligns with your requirements.
No CodeNo Code platforms are created for individuals without a technical background. They enable users to build applications effortlessly using drag-and-drop features and ready-made templates, without writing any code.
Low CodeLow Code solutions provide a hybrid approach, offering both a visual interface and the ability to add custom code. These platforms are ideal for users with basic coding skills who want to speed up development without building from scratch.
Full-CodeFull-Code development involves constructing applications entirely through programming, providing the highest level of flexibility and control. This method typically uses languages like Python, JavaScript, or Ruby and frameworks such as React or Django.
What’s the Difference?
Now that we’ve covered the basics of No Code, Low Code, and Full-Code platforms, it's time to delve into the key factors that will help you make the best choice for your business. Each factor plays a significant role in determining the most suitable solution for your needs.
If navigating through these factors feels overwhelming, you can always rely on the expertise of the Best Software Development Company in Singapore to guide you through the process and help you select the best approach.
1. Scalability and Long-Term Growth
No Code: Works well for small projects but may become limiting as your business grows or requires additional functionality.
Low Code: Offers better scalability than No Code, making it suitable for businesses that are looking to expand and integrate more systems in the future.
Full Code: The most scalable solution, allowing for the growth of complex features and integrations as your business needs evolve over time.
2. Integration with Existing Systems
No Code: Limited in its ability to integrate with other complex systems, but ideal for standalone applications.
Low Code: Provides better integration capabilities, making it possible to connect with other tools and databases, which is helpful for medium-complexity applications.
Full Code: Best for seamless and custom integration with existing systems, offering full control over how different platforms and services connect.
3. Maintenance and Support
No Code: Maintenance is often easier, with built-in updates and less frequent need for troubleshooting, but it may limit your ability to make significant changes.
Low Code: Requires moderate maintenance, but offers more control over customization and can be adapted as your needs evolve.
Full Code: Requires ongoing maintenance and support, but provides full control over updates, bug fixes, and improvements, ensuring long-term reliability and flexibility.
Whether you choose No Code, Low Code, or Full Code, remember that working with the Best Software Development Company in Singapore can help you navigate these considerations effectively.
Benefits to No Code, Low Code, and Full Code
All these three options of No Code, Low Code, and Full Code come with their own set of advantages. Get an idea of each advantage to ensure they are aligning properly with your company's requirements.
Note: In the creative landscape of coding, a software development company can go beyond the traditional ways and help you with several add-on advantages for your project’s fulfillment.
No Code
Enables fast development without technical skills, making them ideal for simple applications.
Perfect platform for small businesses which is affordable ideal for subscription model.
With ease of use, you can easily make changes and build applications quickly.
Low Code:
Low Code platforms offer balance between speed and flexibility.
Enables faster development while allowing for some custom coding.
Perfect for users with basic coding knowledge and can be used for moderately complex applications, with integration capabilities to existing systems.
Full-Code:
Offers maximum flexibility and control for large-scale applications.
It ensures scalability and performance optimization, with complete ownership over the codebase.
Highly adaptable platform which allows advanced functionality as the needs for application grow.
When to Choose the Right Approach
As highlighted earlier, your final decision should align with your business needs. To help you make an informed choice, here are some scenarios outlining which solution works best for different cases:
No Code: Ideal for quickly building simple apps or websites, especially for startups or small-scale projects. A software company in Singapore can assist in implementing your No Code project efficiently. It’s a cost-effective approach that enables fast deployment without requiring coding expertise.
Low Code: Suitable for those with moderate technical knowledge, this option strikes a balance between speed and customization. It allows the creation of more complex applications with the flexibility to integrate seamlessly with other tools and systems.
Full Code: The go-to choice when your project demands advanced features or intricate functionalities beyond the scope of No Code or Low Code. This method ensures complete control over the codebase, making it ideal for large-scale or highly specialized projects requiring scalability and long-term flexibility.
Conclusion
To conclude, the choice between No Code, Low Code, and Full Code ultimately hinges on the scope of your project, available resources, and your long-term objectives.
No Code is perfect for straightforward, budget-friendly solutions that don’t require deep technical expertise.
Low Code strikes a balance by offering more flexibility, making it an excellent option for businesses that need some level of customization without the complexity of Full Code.
On the other hand, Full Code provides unmatched flexibility and scalability, making it the ideal choice for businesses with more intricate and growth-focused projects.
For organizations seeking tailored solutions, collaborating with experienced software developers in Singapore will ensure you receive expert guidance and develop a solution that aligns perfectly with your specific requirements and future growth plans.

Content creation ideas:
Write blogs on trending health topics, such as "The Benefits of Meditation."
Develop detailed guides and how-to articles.
Create videos or infographics for a visual appeal.

Use location-based keywords in meta tags and content.

Fix broken links and ensure proper redirections.
Improve site speed and remove duplicate content.
