Hey everyone,
Today is the last day to possibly opt out of Meta (Facebook/Instagram)'s AI program and there is a way to opt out if you are trying to protect your data privacy.
Please do what you can to save your art and data before it's too late. Edit/Update: It may not be applicable to the US because people living in Europe have the direct ability to opt out-- but US citizens can still submit the form for consideration.

Art is inherently human.
From drawings on the walls of a cave and stories told around the fire, carried through generations, to worlds built with blocks on a screen, the desire to create flows through our veins.
Art is also work.
In a society where bigger, better, faster is valued above anything else, they think they don't have time to hone the craft. They automate humanity and call themselves creative because they dare not try and fail.
— written by me, a human

Please please please just write. Write about your day, write about your friends, write about your characters (I don’t care if you think they’re “cringe” cringe is a stupid, fake word) —
just write. Please. It is so fun to look back at the things you wrote, “bad” or not, I promise you it is worth it. Write sentences, paragraphs, hell —
Write novels!! I love reading. And so do so many others. Someone will read what you write and someone will love it, even if you never get to know.
Or you can keep it private, vent, get your feelings out. Tear it up. Burn it. Keep it hidden. Keep it locked even.
Write!! I love writing and I love writers!!!
also hey ; whilst you’re here :

Writing Tip
With Microsoft Word feeding everything to AI, I would like to take this moment to recomend two word programs that do NOT do this:
Abiword and LibreOffice.
Both of these programs are open-source (Libre is owned by a non-profit) and do not "call home" to steal your work.
Both programs can open and save in various file types including .doc and .docx.
Yes, you can get these programs on Mac and Linux.
Happy writing!

Hot Take
If you hate people who use AI to make art but are fine using AI to roleplay with a character then you are part of the problem and are actively funding AI creators to keep making AI happen in the creative industry.
It's gonna encourage AI to write more scripts for movies, shows, and more. If you want to roleplay with a character, go out and find somebody through social media who is willing to role play with you. If you're having a mental health crisis, go seek help. AI is not private, it is not accurate, and it's stealing jobs up right and center.
I do not excuse AI at all.

Given the rise in concerns of AI data scraping on AO3, I have finally bitten the bullet and locked all of my RWBY fics.
This means that only registered users will be able to read my fics, as well as comment on them.
Just a heads up if you follow and use a guest account! If you need an invitation, let me know!
And a reminder you guys can always reach out and comment on fics/writing/fandom/whatever here :) I always love to chat!

What are everyone’s best alternatives to GoogleDocs when it comes to writing? I currently operate out of GoogleDocs, including an almost finished first draft of a novel.
I do not want AI to have access to this. At all.
Private documents can’t be shared.
But Public can. Some of mine are public to be shared to Beta Readers.
What is the best alternative?
Is Scrivner the best?
I currently operate off a iphone only.

I've got a question. You said that no using your stories for AI to write. Why's that? I thought AI was only used for art drawing, not writing. I never use AI for anything, not even writing stories. Please let me know.
Hello! Also before I go into my little thoughts about AI, I am really happy that you don’t use it!
My thoughts;
Unfortunately there are a lot of “writing” AI (ex; Character AI [cai], Chai, ChatGPT are more of the popular ones that I know of) which use any uploaded writing to ‘teach’ the AI how to write. I get that Cai and Chai brings a sense of comfort, but it still rubs me the wrong way, knowing how AI works.
I don’t want my writing being given to programs that are built off plagiarism; people literally got expelled from my college program because of using AI to plagiarize work.
AI can only work through 1) people voluntarily giving it their writing OR 2) people taking work from creatives. Voluntarily is meh, but plagiarism? Kneecaps NOW.
And unfortunately I have to put a written warning, but there are still people who would go against my request and put my writing into AI; more prevalent with longer form writing, as people may not feel like it ended up well or don’t want to wait for a conclusion. There was an AI bot scraping through AO3 a few weeks ago, which rightfully caused a scare.
AI is also set to take over creative professions; one of the many reasons why a lot of professions are striking, so they don’t get replaced. It was supposed to make more physically demanding jobs easier NOT take over the creative field; corporate greed not wanting to pay workers yet again.
If any information is wrong, please let me know; this is all information that I learned about in my program and via other creatives. But seriously one of the creators of AI quitted, that should say something.
#dove chats#writers against ai#artists against ai#fuck ai all my homies hate ai#also technically a bit of a rant but not at you; i just get fired up about it#not writing

Those who "write" books using ai might be faster, but they will never understand the feeling of setting up camp on the top of a mountain, lights of every colour dancing above their head, listening to their favourite character play the lute, all while they are actually just sitting on their bed.

How to Support Writers During the Scourge of A.I. Bullshit
Do
Interact with us. Talk to us. Reach out to us. Many writers physically write for themselves, but they share for others. To build a community and connect with someone, to learn from them, and to make a genuine connection through something they've created. Comments, questions, rambling tags, they all mean that our writing reached someone who genuinely enjoyed it.
Share our work. This does not mean repost, this means reblog and/or send the link to friends and other potential readers. Some writers may have negative experiences with their work being shared on other platforms (such as discord), but reblogging is almost always appreciated so we can reach a wider audience. Even if you don't have anything to say or comment, it will help.
Ask questions. Many writers are dying to talk about the creative choices they made, the word choice they fought with until they got it just right, the details they added just HOPING someone would notice it. If you wish you could get more context/detail about a piece, odds are all you have to do is ask!
Treat us like humans (because we are). Crazy concept, right? The thing that terrifies me the most about all this is the potential that we take humanity out of the arts. We replace it with A.I. until human creativity becomes irrelevant because it's more convenient and more profitable.
We are not robots making content for your entertainment, we are people sharing stories to make genuine human connections and share our passions. Stories that take hours, days, months, even years of our lives to properly craft. We practice and study and learn so that we can express ourselves skillfully. Even when done as a hobby for fun, there is heart and energy and time put into the final draft.
And finally, Don't
Use A.I. for anything. Because the more it's used, the more advanced it becomes. The more advanced it becomes, the harder it will be to discern a genuine human touch between an A.I. regurgitating what it's been taught.
In the end, this is a plea. I'm begging you. Do not give A.I. the ability to replace us.

HELPP i found out about character AIs and im losing it over calling deltarune sans "a more manipulative personality" 😭😭 like whatt we've only seen this man like 2 times
sorry im being a hater hgfjdks but you're the sans understander
lmaoo character.ai, look where the fall of ai dungeon got us, smh. thank you for the compliment though!
#i think those ai chaeracter rps are goofy as hell#i've played around with them a few times to see what it was all about. they play up the personalization too much it's not THAT customizable#i tried feeding it some sans lines back when i was doing the rp to see if the machine was capable of identifying his speaking style#since i'd essentially done the same thing just manually. i wanted to see how good it could get it#huge disappointment as predicted#i WILL give character.ai one thing though. hilariously not for its characters. there's this one tool called brainstorming that's super hand#you throw ideas/concepts at it & it throws back clarifying questions based on what you sent in. like playing tennis against a wall#essentially a dynamic version of those writing tip lists like what's the significance of this event for x. what conflict arises etc#optimally this is stuff you do with a friend. and truly nothing beats brainstorming with another writer. honest.#but if you're fully throwing spaghetti at the wall in the roughest stages of an idea it's a quick way to cycle through some basic what-ifs#pretty fun toy all things considered. but it stops being useful the moment things start shaping up forreal#answered asks
