i’m on chapter 4 of cos. i started reading it yesterday since i finished sai. lowkey… lowkey…

the only reason i ask this is because i have SO MUCH I COULD TALK ABOUT and i really wanna go on a tangent where i just yap, but i dont wanna do it unprompted or if it is gonna be a spoiler nation. but ESPECIALLY ABOUT THE NARRATION SWITCH BETWEEN THE TWO BOOKS.

I am thinking about fan fiction writers, but anyone who writes any kind of fiction can answer. (As far as I’m aware, non-fiction is usually written in the past tense - but if I’m wrong do let me know!)

If you like, explain why in the tags!

When I was young I gathered that all serious works of fiction were written in the past tense (past tense third person to be precise) so that is what i did when I started writing. However my mind was blown by the power and immediacy of Margaret Atwood writing in the present tense so I started to experiment with it myself, and now i strongly favour it. I get the impression that past is still the most commonly used, but I’m prepared to be surprised!

I've been curious about this for awhile now, and with a re-surge of the "hey you know you tumblr doesn't have an algorithm and you need to reblog things here if you want to see more of stuff and/or support creators" posts I think I'll finally make a poll to test a theory, Which is that: 1) Where you came from before tumblr has a heavy influence on if you reblog posts or not and 2) That the decline in reblogs has come from a influx of users from other social media over the recent years who were conditioned to interact with 'content' in a "more passive consumption, less community-interaction" way. So, whether you reblog posts or not- I want to know where you came from before tumblr

Fanfics are a big part of what inspires me to draw fanart, but I have just seen a post saying that some writers might not like fanart based on their fics to be posted and honestly, I'd never considered that, so if you're a fanfic writer:

to me fanart and fanfic have always seemed more or less like a symbiotic relationship and I personally would love it if someone wrote a fic based on art that I drew, so I'd never really considered that someone might not like it
