how to be more creative?

Three Steps to Being More Creative

Step One: Filling Your Creative Well

You can't create something out of nothing. You need not just the right tools and medium, but also knowledge, ideas, and skills to help you know what to do with those tools and that medium.

Ideas come from the data that's already stored in our brains. That data comes from a variety of places: your day-to-day life, your life experiences, what you hear about others' day-to-day lives and experiences, your experiences with the people and places around you, etc. Any little thing your brain absorbs can become an idea.

So, the number one thing you need to do if you want to be more creative is to fill your head with ideas. I like to call this "filling your creative well," because it's all about filling up your brain with a variety of experiences, stories, and experiences so that you have someplace to draw from when you need ideas.

Guide: Filling Your Creative Well will walk you through how to do that.

Step Two: Learn to Take Creative Risks

Another important part of being more creative is learning to take creative risks. By trying a variety of creative endeavors, even if they're not something you think you'll be good at, and by trying new things in current creative endeavors, you can exercise and expand your creativity. For example, grab a friend or family member and head to one of those "paint and sip" places where they guide you through doing a painting. Alternatively, a lot of craft stores offer free and inexpensive classes that teach you how to do different crafts. You could also go on YouTube and learn how to do something you've never tried before, like origami, crocheting, or calligraphy. Even doing things like building and decorating homes in The Sims, decorating homes or your island in Animal Crossing, or any game where you get to exercise creative choice is a good way to try new things and take creative risks. For writing, try doing some writing prompts or participating in a writing challenge, like a six-word story contest or challenge yourself to turn a favorite song into an actual story (just for fun and personal use.) If you've never written fan-fiction before, try that! Or try writing a story in a genre you've always wanted to write but never have before. Even reading a book, watching a TV show or movie, or playing a game in a new genre can help expand your creative horizons.

Step Three: Let Go of a Need for Perfection

One of the biggest enemies of creativity is a feeling that everything you create needs to be perfect, and this is such an unfortunate thing because most things that require creativity are not things you're ever going to do perfect the first time. So if you can't get past this need to be perfect, you'll never be able to exercise and grow your creativity. So, don't be afraid to paint a bad painting, crochet an uneven scarf, fold a lopsided paper crane, or write a bad story. The point isn't to be perfect or even good. The point is to do it, because even bad art is good practice.

And... if you just wanted to know how to be more creative within a story you're writing, all of the above advice still stands. Fill your creative well, take creative risks, and let go of a need for perfection. ♥

Saw this tag game on another post and thought I'd do it (idk if I've done it before, maybe something similar, but my answers will be different anyway)

1. Were you named after anyone?

Nope My chosen name (Allister) however, is from a youtuber who has a very cool name and I stole it (Alasdair Beckett-King, very funny videos and he has great hair too). I adapted it a bit so people in Spain would at least have an idea of how to pronounce it at first glance (hopefully) It has nothing to do with any Crowley (which I did not realize was a thing until recently), tho for a bit I named myself AJ like Good Omens Crowley, but I don't like how it sounds in Spanish...

2. When was the last time you cried?

3. Do you have kids?

No. And I don't want any. I don't dislike them, but it's not for me

4. What sports do you play/have you played?

Judo, karate and football (the indoors kind). All as a kid/teen. Now my brother and I walk every week day and go up and down stairs (when we remember...) One day I want to try to go to a gym to get some muscle, but not too much, just a bit of definition. Also, I'd enjoy doing rock climbing, but not competitive climbing or anything like that

5. Do you use sarcasm?

6. What's the first thing you notice about people?

Irl: the way they move their face and hands when they speak, which then I subconsciously use to recognize people, bc I'm a bit face blind Online: the way they choose to express themselves

Gray/light blue on the outside and artichoke green/lime on the inside

I like both, but I'd rather watch a happy ending. For scary things I prefer to watch Markiplier's scary games videos

I'm VERY good at jigsaw puzzles

10. Where were you born?

East of Spain, by some of the best Mediterranean coasts 😁. I enjoy it here, but one day I'd like to live in the UK, at least for a bit, I think I'd like it there

Listening to music, singing, making art (crafting, building, drawing, painting, writing, ...), watching media (shows, panel shows, youtube, twitch), video games (rhythm/dancing, platformer, puzzle... Also minecraft, powerwash sim, potion craft...), going for walks, exercise, learning languages (especially English) If I had any good ones close, I'd go to theatres and museums too. And, if I had money, I'd travel. I'm also slowly learning about taking care of plants

12. Do you have any pets?

Not yet. I'd love to have dogs, cats, frogs, snakes... or anything really. I love animals. But I think cats and frogs would be the best fit for me, considering my personality and current lifestyle I've always wanted a dog, but I've only had a turtle and a hamster

Here's Something About Me (Updated)

Decided to rework my intro post. The last one was a bit long and some information on that post is a little out of date. Some things have changed, and some haven’t (e.g. I don’t watch Creeped Out as much as I used to).

Anyway, I’m no_fear_queers both on here and on Instagram. If you found me on here and want to check out my Insta be sure to look for the account that has Ellis from Left 4 Dead 2 over a queer flag pfp. (Note: I don’t expect anyone to follow me on here or Instagram. Haven’t expected to get a whole lot of followers on either site since the accounts were made. I’m also pretty sure my Insta page is shadowbanned but that’s not the point.) I’m 22.

I’m transmasculine, ambiamorous and a termcollector. The terms I’m comfortable with being open with on the internet are; queer, angled aroace, ambiamorous, termcollector, transmasculine, and gendervast. This would be the part where I say “among other things” but this is the best I can do to not make things too long. My pronouns are he/they/it/xe/vir/fae. I’m trying out xe/vir pronouns and I’m using fae/faer pronouns as a REPLACEMENT for she/her. (Meaning I’d rather you use fae/fare instead of she/her.) I’m a satanist that’s into Greek and Norse Mythology.

The first name I have given myself is Ellis. Before anyone asks, yes, I named myself after the Left 4 Dead 2 character. In my defense, Ellis has always been my comfort character and to me, it made sense to name myself after him. As for the middle name I gave myself, it’s Ryan.

Nicknames I’ll accept are Eli, Ray, and Rye. I also want to stress that the nickname “Shrimpy” can only be used by my friends. I only want my friends to call me Shrimpy because; for one thing I cannot confirm that I’ll always be shorter/smaller than the unknown person on the other side of the screen, and for another thing, a friend of mine (I will not be saying any names privacy reasons especially since I don’t know if he changed his name again or not) had given me the nickname Shrimpy (also nicknaming me Shrimp) while he and I were leaving PE because he thought it was easier to remember than my dead name. I also figured that he gave me that nickname because I’m smaller than all my friends. (Given I’m 5’ and somewhere around 101-102 lbs whereas my friends are 5’2”-5’7” and weigh over 101 lbs.) Long story short: If we’re not irl friends, don’t call me shrimpy. Only my friends are allowed to do that.

Personality/Mental health wise, I’m an autistic introvert with ADHD, social anxiety and depression. I don’t really like talking to people, especially since talking feels weird. It doesn’t help that sometimes I stutter and sometimes I don’t make sense. It’s something that I found difficult about being social, and on top of that, I’ll either cross a boundary without realizing it or I’ll misinterpret something that the other person is saying. (Can safely say that I’m one of those people that needs the other person to be more specific when talking to me about anything, and I also need the other person to express their boundaries when it comes to certain topics.) Now, putting aside the fact that I’m socially inept, I can confidently say that I’ll be 2 years SH-free on August 3rd 2024.

Ooo! Concept language sounds fun! I'll definitely look into doing that! :) Paper crafts are very nice as well, they give a sense of freedom in a way. Also, what kind of video games do you like? Farming or dating sims, maybe?

im gonna list things ive been doing lately to conceptualize to myself that my life is not empty or meaningless, feel free to ignore this post-

-i know work stuff shouldnt count but i have become very exceptionally skilled at different aspects of my job and not only do mostly all my coworkers like me and turn to me for help, but lots of customers recognize and like me too and i know its just a minimum wage grocery store job but im proud of myself for building so many skills -on a related note the relationships ive been able to build with some of my coworkers makes me very proud as someone who struggles with socializing as much as i do, and in the context of that being the thing ive been the most sad about lately, its nice that a good handful of my coworkers really like me as much as they do. and i know the main reasons things have been hard at home arent really My Fault as it were -being a figurehead in a truly wild work drama as it unfolds (okay sure this isnt me /doing/ something but it is /interesting/) -every day i try to wear fun little outfits and do fun little makeup things and i often get compliments and really love my style and its definitely off the wall and im very proud of it and am constantly adding to my repertoire -i got pretty damn good at fortnite. no further comment -i got back into sims again and im still pretty good at building -i listen to musicians i personally like and ive been poring through these two youtube true crime channels lately. and i fell off it again but i got back into playing card games besides solitaire on the computer for a bit. i /do/ have interests outside whatever the polycule is doing around me. i /am/ still my own person -adhd win: ive been keeping up with my planner for like 9 months now! leaving it open on my desk and not being too strict with myself with how quickly i write things in has helped a lot -its not even been a week so touch wood but im making it a goal to listen to an album once a week, watch a movie once a week, and if i can, read a book once a week (like, starting small like goosebumps level stuff) -on an average work day i frequently break 20k+ steps and average 17kish steps a day, and in my less active role im still averaging like 13k -i dont draw as much as i want to but i have been drawing more than i was when my depression and mental health were at their worst, again keeping sketchbooks on hand for easy access has helped a lot -ive been having more ideas for films/shows/whatever again lately -i got christmas gifts for lots of friends and family which was the first time i was able to and i got them for people who werent expecting it at all and it felt nice to do nice things for people i care about

i feel like i should list more things but i dont want to force myself to grasp at straws, my life isnt quite as full of things or going the way i want it to be, but its not empty and its not worthless and im trying to remind myself of that without trying to put aspirations in here. im looking at facts not wants. and im doing okay! i could be doing better but im doing okay

Currently reading: idk, probably star trek fanfic my friend @rubbertplant​ was writing to give my opinion on it. i often read through my own stuff too lol, like whoah i wrote that??? ADHD has taken everything from me including my capability to read though, for real. ive been thinking of trying to listen to some audiobooks recently though, this cannot continue... its just that i also have no ears disease so idk how well that would go. determined to try though

Last song you listened to: havent been listening to music so much bc ive been playing videos instead but my last.fm has all my spotify listens so itll stay up to date on whatever i listened to last. currently seems to be “please play-bite” by pinocchioP. i often just let spotify play me whatever it recommends anyhow so theres variance. and i only started this account like a few months ago max so its not really a full picture of my music-listening

Last movie (in theaters): its not really a movie, but if it counts, the first ginga nagareboshi gin stageplay (recorded and released in finland in theaters with subs)

ginga was always huge in finland for some reason. idk. the anime is so violent though that i got really afraid of bears for some reason. theres so much blood... i never read the manga either i just knew of the anime and partook in my share of wolf roleplays (dogs were uncool! so i didnt do dog roleplays. iirc that really was my reason).

Last series I watched: trigun stampede. even changed my phone bg into vash... but millions knives is probably my favourite. he just does everything wrong and makes his life worse. and everyone elses life too bc he sucks. but hes multifaceted so hes also my meow meow and whatever. i hope a ford explorer drives over him

if it counts though, ive seen some star trek TOS episodes and movies because my friends have been watching them. im not super into it but its always fun to hang. i also dont watch a lot of stuff. i dont even know what i do. guy who doesnt read or watch things but listens to jerma videos on youtube without actually looking at them while i “draw” and “write”

Craving: food honestly. i should cook something lmfao. i also want soda so bad but i dont have any. id make some tea but its disgustingly warm in my house so i only want cool drinks. could kill for a nice milkshake or a smoothie rn i think

Tea or coffee: tea... im the only finnish person who doesnt drink coffee for real. also got really into loose leaf tea bc i befriended a chinese lady who is really into tea and has a tea shop in the city near where i live

Currently working on: drawing this and trying to think how i want to do it. somehow want to incorporate flat colours and maybe shade his body naturally, and make the blood look realistic instead of flat colours... hmm not sure yet what i want to do

ULTIMATE FANTASY:

It's summer. I have a week to myself in my parents' house—maybe two. No one is home at all. I have no work, no responsibilities. Nobody nags me about not eating all day. I read and write and draw and dance and watch movies and go for walks and play Minecraft and Sims and listen to music as loud as I want, and sing along, too. My meal for the day is always breakfast or dinner; I cook for myself. There is no one around when I'm eating or cooking. Every day one of my favorite YouTubers posts a long video to watch while I eat. There's a usable public transportation system, so I can go buy a special meal if I want, or go on my own little outings. Nobody talks to me and everyone leaves me alone. I spend most of the week stone-sober but know I can trip or take an edible if I want. I can sit on the back porch at sunset with a joint and a beer or kava or a margarita or nothing at all, just me and a book and an iced glass of cherry-flavored sparkling water. And I'm by myself. And no one bothers me. And I go for long long walks through the forest with Radiohead in my earbuds. And there are no dog walkers or joggers to tell me good morning. And I take obscenely long showers and baths, and the water is always the perfect temperature. And I never have to do anything or go anywhere or talk to anyone, and I bake a carrot cake that doesn't fall despite the altitude, and every night is clear and starry, and every sunset I see is the most beautiful one I've ever witnessed.

i have been putting off writing anything here for a while. all my poetry and music reside on a tumble account i will not link, but this one is for me. i often feel misunderstood, judged, and speechless (as any teenage girl does) but i want this to be a blog to serve as a time capsule. i am no carrie bradshaw or amy elliot, but the things i have to say are important. the importance of what i have to say, however, does not play into the crowd i will draw, so if i sit here and i write and rant every day with no responses i will not care. all i want to do here is be me, and that is the only response i could care for.

i am a seventeen-year-old girl from new york. i have a simple job and i go to a regular school. i am in many extracurriculars and honor societies and my favorite things are music and gaming. by gaming i am mostly referring to the sims and as far as music, i am in a band and i make music on my own aswell. i sing but i'm learning guitar and my favorite artists are fiona apple and Kendrick Lamar. i think they have an earnest writing style that people do not have anymore. even though fiona apple is more 90's and 2000's centric, i do believe that this generation lacks people with her pen and even though Kendrick is in a completely different genre, they fit together. i love to dress up and wear makeup and go out with my friends. i love to post on Instagram and watch youtube and read and dance even if im bad at it. im an athlete, i play sports and i go to the gym regularly. i think i am normal and i don't want to be. i want the world.

i hope not to come off as a prick, i just want to be something and do something with this life because i am young and i want to be forever but i know that's not possible so i want to relish this final year of childhood before i become a young adult. it was recently my birthday and multiple people told me they were proud to see the young adult i was becoming, it scared me because i wasn't ready to be that and i welcomed it because they were proud. i like my life, there are a few bad things but i wont dwell on them, and i just hope i am making my loved ones proud. maybe i should get a diary, or a therapist, but tumblr is free and only a click away.
