i tripped and fell down and a new product happened! these signs and stickers have a re-writable surface. you can write on them in dry erase marker and terrorize yourself into doing more frequent file backups! there's a sticker version, and a little card version that just so happens to hang perfectly off a standard-size tack. great for digital artists, programmers, photographers, writers, and other creatives who should REALLY BE BACKING UP THEIR STUFF. SERIOUSLY. MULTIPLE BACKUPS. AS OFTEN AS YOU CAN PRACTICALLY DO IT.

Alternatives to Sticker Mule
Artist Friends - In case you haven't heard, Sticker Mule sent out an incredibly gross email supporting Trump.
Ew.
Now, a quick search will reveal plenty of great alternatives to Sticker Mule who do not support a political party hell-bent on taking away your fundamental human rights, which is great!
But Chilchuck here has a suggestion that probably won't be in the first page of your search.
Chances are good there's a Union-run print shop in your area.
Tumblr media
Seeing as how Unions are why we have worker protection laws and other great things like weekends and a minimum wage, unions, for the most part, are cool. The Right does not like unions, because those politicians and their corporate masters don't like paying overtime, and are actively trying to get rid of child labor laws. *sigh* I wish I was making this up.
Anyhoo, not only will you be supporting your neighbors, you'll probably get your stickers (or whatever else you want to print) a lot faster than online. I needed an emergency print done QUICK before a con, and I got my stickers next day!
If you can physically travel there, most places have paper samples you can handle so you can pick the GSM that you want, check the gloss, see how writable surfaces are if you want something you can sign, etc. And there will be a human there who knows what they're talking about, and can answer your questions. If you're not sure what to get, they can make suggestions. Even if you can't afford their minumums, it doesn't hurt to walk in and ask. They might be able to cut you some sort of deal.
Hell, I have a friend who got a proof made and approved minutes after she walked in because she happened to have the file in Dropbox. The printer the shop used for stickers wasn't running at that moment, so the worker just got the file and made a proof real fast.
Listen to Chilchuck, our favorite Union Man. Search for union print shops (and other services) near you!

Jet Pens Mini-Haul (under $10, mostly!)
Sometimes, there are a hand full of small, quirky products that don’t need a full, long-form review but are worth mentioning so I thought these products were worthy of a little notice. I recently got an order from JetPens that included: Shachihata Allemore Nototo Join Stamps – Daily Log ($10.25) MU Print-On Transfer Stickers – Lunar – 2 Sheets ($3.35) Mark’s Masté Perforated Writable Washi Tape…

I am a garbage raccon writer. Truly. I'll paint the picture, help you get to know Alex as I type this in my laptop that is holding on by a thread, or, as I say in portuguese, is already inside the beak of the vulture:
I sit crossed legged in the middle of my bed surrounded by at least five pillows that I stole from other rooms in the house because my back hurts. Still, I hunch over my delapitaded dell with twilight stickers as my $500 gaming chair that I bought to play stardew valley exclusively flips me. I speak in a language that is not my own with a name that is not my own and that I stole from a truly formative disney chanel show that I watched as a very easily manipulated pre-teen that thought that layering 32 shirts was the peak of fashion.
My brain is an echoing parakeet left in front of the tv that spews movie quotes and song lyrics and tiktok audios and pop culture references and a very potter musical trivia with no commas or semi colons and it all becomes a single cacophanous song and it is sang by lin manuel miranda. I type, as you can read, like John Mulaney just discovered Meg Cabot and decided that The Princess Diaries was the greates piece of literature ever - AND IT IS.
I have absolutely no sense of minimalism and I am Coco Chanel worst nightmare as i always add one more thing before I leave the house. I hate seafood. My biases' are always either the shortest, the beefiest or the dumbests. I don't understand the passage of time and sometimes i think that i updated my fics recently and it turns out it had been five months and my food is burning because I thought it was too early to take it out but it was not. I love getting messages but I am horrible at answering them because I have an issue with small tasks in which I cannot get them done. Ladybirds makes me cry but then again so does, like, Julie and the Phantom. I love taylor swift and I sometimes lay in bed and wonder if Yoongi would like me (would he though? would he really?). I treat every writable surface like it's my fucking diary and I get really sad that I cant pay for parents to stop working. Sometimes I think I am the funniest person alive and then I think that I don't get to decided that.
But then you guys say I'm funny too and then I gather all my garbage raccon treasures and I carry it with me as it culminates in my garbage raccon personality that i type it out hunched over my edward cullen decked dell and my back hurts a little less and the food i burned doesnt even taste that much like coal and I do think sometimes that Yoongi would like me even if I don't proofread anything or use comas.

Weird Questions for Writers Ask: 1, 19, 30, 33 please
1. What font do you write in? Do you actually care or is that just the default setting?
I write in Constantia. I actually made it the default on all the writing software on my computer. I prefer serif fonts, and Constantia has just this bit of character while still being totally readable.
I did use to have a Thing where every story would have its own font and color, and I mostly haven't changed those back, but, uh, yeah, I don't do that anymore.
There was also a period where Palatino Linotype was my default, but I've switched over
19. Tell me a story about your writing journey. When did you start? Why did you start? Were there bumps along the way? Where are you now and where are you going?
This is going to be a long answer, because my writing journey has been long.
The first story I remember writing was when I was 6. I stapled a bunch of loose leaf together and decided when I filled it, I would have reached the end. That's not how anything works, but to a 6 year old, it kind of is.
You may recognize the age of 6 around the same time many kids really start to be able to write sentences. I was a very early reader and loved books deeply since, so it made sense to me at the time I would use my words, once I had them, to write my own.
I've written fiction off and on--almost always on, and more on the older I got, ever since. By the time I was in middle school, authoring because The Thing I wanted to do. I went to college for creative writing. Did my first NaNo at 17. Finished my first (different) novel at 18. Queried agents with a novel for the first time when I was 21, just after I'd graduated.
So, yeah. I've been writing for a long, long time, probably longer than many people following me on this blog (because you don't have to be that much younger than me for that to be true), and been actively pursuing education and growing as a writer for....most of that time.
I like to think it's paid off in my skill.
30. Talk to me about the role dreams play in your writing life. Have you ever used material from your dreams in your writing? Have you ever written in a dream? Did you remember it when you woke up?
I've written a couple dreams down as "This is interesting, could write about it," but with the nature of dreams, they always require a lot of work to turn into anything that could be writable that I don't think I've ever actually written a single one.
33. Do you practice any other art besides writing? Does that art ever tie into your writing, or is it entirely separate?
I've dabbled in lots! Drawing was definitely the one I did most, longest, and best, and the one I do most often these days (although not that often). I have historically drawn a lot of my characters. I made a few very very bad attempts at comics as a child.
And if you count role-playing as an art and a game, maybe that. My dad taught me how to play D&D by the time I was about 5 or so, just old enough to play, but pretending to be other characters with your friends and doing character improv (without even necessarily writing it down) is a very creative act and I think a form of art. It's another way to play with storytelling, in my experience.
I think after that, it's probably...sewing? My mother always made my costumes for Halloween growing up, and once I got old enough, I had to help with costumes. I still do a lot of the work to make my own costumes. I'm not real good, but I always have good design ideas, I think, and I like dressing up and putting pieces together that I've purchased when that's necessary. I have soooo many costume pieces hanging around. And so, so much extra cloth and thread and cording and shiz.
My apartment has the remains and bits and pieces of many arts I've tried over the years. Origami paper. Jewelry-making supplies. Stickers and tissue paper and calligraphy pens and charcoal and fancy pencils and erasers and construction paper and markers and Bristol paper and--
Creation is Good.

Day 286
Tumblr media
“Like opening a jewelry box.”
Don’t mind the chaotic placement of the washi tape and stickers, I just wanted to play around with the entire set. Normally, I would wait until I have a reason to use a washi tape I’ve brought, and even then, if I had brought a set I don’t use the whole set.
However, this set is unique currently in the collection that I own (and will probably continue to be unique for a while because god this was expensive in the short term). So there is a bullet journal site called Notebook Therapy, and like the Washi Tape Shop, what they primarily sell is their own brand.
They’re actually a good study in FOMO (Fear of Missing Out), because they sell a lot of limited edition journals.
But the other thing they do, is that they purposely design their products to be (or appear to be) “high end” products. All their washi tape, stencils and stamps are sold as a collection set. The way they designed their washi tape sets specifically is to keep within a particular theme, and to provide the user with as many different washi tape types within that collection.
That last bit was the thing that caught my attention the most about their washi tape. Normally when I buy washi tape in a set, I’m buying a single type of washi tape, but several designs in a theme. Whereas their selling point is I can at least get one washi tape that has a clear backing, one that has gold foil on it, and at least one that I can write on without the ink bleeding. And then the collections may have additions like rolls that look like tickets, film or some special die cut. So I just had to try. I ended up settling on the second Vintage Rose set.
Tumblr media
Which ended up arriving on a Saturday by a delivery company I am not familiar with. The first thing I noticed was how pretty the box is. It looked like it was something special.
Tumblr media
I didn’t realize it came with stickers, but it was a delightful find.
Tumblr media
And of course all the washi tape, two of them with gold foil, one with clear backing, one standard washi tape, one writable tape (which were also stickers) and one die cut. I’m not sure what I’ll use it on, maybe a page about writing or a writing letter themed card.

It says that you can upgrade it every two years for $99, on the same sticker that says it will never go obsolete. Maybe they meant that you'll never have an obsolete computer, because you can upgrade cheaply, but it specifically says "this computer is never obsolete."
It has a CD writable drive. By the time those were on the market, we knew that that was ridiculous.
This isn't poorly predicting the future.
This isn't false confidence.
This is a lie.
