Wei Yīng said something dirty and LWJ was going to retort when he was sucked underwater. He thought he was gonna die but soon got caught under like this wheel thingy where he was pulled up and his shoulder dislocated. He had wounds and was only saved thx to WWX using demonic cultivation. But i remember it took place during wei yings time in gusu in the cloud recess arc. i could be wrong on some details but from my memory it has the lans finding out about some negative aspect of wei yings life in yunmeng and the abusive treatment he dealt with. he is then welcome in cloud recesss bc they see how smart and kind he is. i remember specifically there was an oc that was a lan elder who was very un-lan like. he was very loud very much what u would expect from a character that’s similar to wei ying. he became wei yings shifu so to speak. they would invent things together. they were both known for blowing up things a lot. the lan healers mentioned once how the jiang healers definitely knew about the abuse wei ying was subjected to. and that they would be bringing up them not living up to their duties as healers at a conference or something. and that not helping wei ying in the abusive situation was a major taboo amongst all the healers and there would be repercussions for that. i think they mention that wei ying is often in the back of cloud recess where all the elders lives. like he’s just always around that general area. it’s kind of jiang bashing and then also positive/protective lans. that’s all i can remember so sorry if that’s vague i just really enjoyed reading it and can’t find it for the life of me. thanks for any help u can give me!! and as always thanks so much for all ur hard work 💕💕💕

Hi! I'm number 9 on the latest fic finder. That fic rec is not the one I was looking for, but that fic is really good, and I'm thankful for whoever who assumed it was that particular one. As I mentioned in my ask is that Wei Wuxian breaks something that belongs to Lan Wangji and the latter is really sad and says something rude to Wei Wuxian I think on the lines of him being as bad as everyone had said and it kind of takes away the spirit entirely from Wei Wuxian and the light in his eyes dim. 11. I am back once again asking for your excellent help in finding a fic. It's an AU, where a previous emperor ordered Lan Zhan & Wei Ying to marry. Lan Zhan is an imperial official (in the tax department i think). There is a war with the Wen going on and Wei Ying is ordered off to fight. Everyone thinks WY is either dead or MIA, but when the war is won, LZ goes to oversees a prisoner exchange and finds WY who has been on a work gang in a mine all this time (with A-Yuan who he's adopted & Mo Xuanyu). I remember MianMian is the brilliant general on the winning side. You find out that LZ & WY basically fell in love right before WY got shipped off to war, so it's a happy reunion. Oh! Also, LZ writes very popular poetry under a pseudonym! Um...i remember that LZ bought WY a goat they called Amethyst because before he was disappeared WY wrote LZ expressing the wish for such a goat (LZ buys the whole herd in the end). Jiang Yanli and the Peacock are married and are the new empress and emperor. There's an epilogue or end note where the author gives info about how their life turned out - this is all in the 500s CE. 13. Hello! I've been pulling my hair out trying to find a wangxian fic. Unfortunately, I can't remember too much about it, but I believe it's a modern/university setting. The only scene I can remember is WWX going with LWJ to visit his uncle and brother. They live rather far and on a hill. LWJ doesn't visit often, and this visit is very tense between WWX and LQR. Something about past WWX doing to LWJ, or causing LWJ to get into trouble when they were younger. Anyway, LWJ then gets angry with his uncle about the treatment directed towards WWX. I also can't remember if baby a-yuan is in this fic and present during the visit, as sometimes fics blend together. I apologize if this isn't enough to go by, but I just randomly recalled this fic, and apparently, I did not bookmark it.

When hermit Wen Ruohan thought he was the last Wen in that AU, I would think he might record the last teachings of his clan just in general. He would have many years alone to do so, after all 😢

If Lan Sizhui wanted to learn from the Wen Sect, however, I'm sure Wen Ruohan would write it for him! Wen Ruohan showed a positive affinity for learning, and that's his son who wants to know more. And it's not like it was the Wen Sect teachings that were mistaken or fundamentally wrong. Rather, it was the lack of many people in the Wen Sect not knowing their own teachings (such as Wen Chao) that led them to ruin.

As a side thought, I like to imagine that Wen Ruohan is the only one with access to his treasure room, which remains untouched by the sacking of Nightless City post-Sunshot Campaign and lies in wait as a perfect time capsule. The Jin did a thorough job exterminating their family, their murals, and likely any and all medical research and Wen cultivation techniques (if they didn't steal these teachings for themselves), but their dirty fingers couldn't reach everything.

Which means when Lan Sizhui goes on a family bonding trip with Wen Ruohan to Nightless City, there is something big there that Wen Ning wasn't able to show him on his first family bonding trip to Nightless City lol

Although the dilemma here is if Lan Sizhui asked Wen Ruohan for the Wen Sect manual and then attempted anything he saw in it, Lan Wangji would absolutely punish him for deviating from the Lan Sect method (see: ch 122 intrusion extra). Lan Sizhui was already punished for learning Jiang Sect methods from Jin Ling by accident. To learn Wen Sect methods on purpose...

Which means a big question lies with Lan Sizhui: just how willing is he to get in touch with his past and get to know his father and original clan?

Soo.. I don't know why but I my mind just decided to produce some sick angsty idea. Forgive these nonsense I'm about to spout but I need to get it out of my mind.

WY is a Wen as in WRH youngest child, and he is very compatible with Yin energy so naturally resentful energy is pretty interested with him (and he has a hard time forming a golden core because of this, but he's still very bright in other things as per usual). WRH knowing this ofc sees this as an opportunity to help him control resentful energy in his wicked pursuit of power.

(This more MDZS stuff but I'll throw in some Yin Iron)

The Yin Iron is very harmful to the mind of the user or the person who's trying to control it, so WRH uses WY as some sort of filter so he can get the power but WY will be the one who bear the fucked up shit that messed with the supposed user's mind. WRH makes this sort of like WY duty as his child for he wouldn't be going to the battlefields like his brothers. And WRH the sick bastard that he is thinks that maybe by forcing WY eat corpes will supposedly make WY works better and like strengthen the resentful energy (but he's just sick like that). And ofc dealing with that everyday finally broke his mind.

After he "broke", WRH just tossed him aside like some used doll, claiming that he has no more use for him. So he just left him in a room at The Palace of Sun and Flames because after all he's still a main family of the Wen Sect. Because WQ and WN who used to help treat the side effects of controlling the Yin Iron in WRH is not really needed anymore, so they take care of WY ofc.

With this progression I don't really know how the Sunshot Campaign will proceed.

But in the case that the other sects won. It'll be interesting to see how the sects will react to finding WY at the Palace of Sun and Flames. Because while he's still WRH child, what can they do to a man who seems more like a doll than a person.

If they decided to help WY, I think it'll be a painful and arduous journey with all the angst and stuff. But if they decided to just off with his head it'll be fun to see some mixed opinions and morals stuff likr that from the sects.

I can see WQ claiming WWX is a member of the branch family to spare him from the immediate death the sects would give him as WRHs son. She probably could get away with it too since no one really saw the third son.

Do you think WY is capable of scheming like NHS? If suppose WY timetravels or in any other scenario where things cannot be dealt with directly would he be capable of scheming against scumbags like JGS or WRH?

I don't think so, just because I don't think he could be as... pragmatically cruel as that level of scheming requires. I don't think WWX is capable of that sort of "whatever it takes" mindset. I can see him working with a schemer on that level if he had to, but I can't see him doing it himself.

I recommend Grave of a Living God by gotcocomilk and Looking At You All Ways, Always by Keysmashed. Grave of Living God is wwx time travel in mxy body, landing on wrh’s private garden and attempting to assassinate him. Looking At You All ways is a classic time travel in this fandom, particularly from LWJ’s POV. Cute Wangxian and all. They’re very good. Also If you can’t beat them, recruit them by moeblobmegane is a good post canon wy who time travels to time before wwx is a yiling patriarch and somehow he became the head of a spy team to off the war in the shadows xD it’s really a cool concept

Noted for the first two! I've already read'if you can't beat them, recruit them' I would definitely recommend. It is an interesting fic!

Ah shit, that’s a hard one. Am I rating by aesthetic? Amount of characters that I like? Ethics? Which one I would join?? I don’t know about the middle of this list but I’m gonna say favorite is Jiang for being fun and purple and eating soup and least favorite is Jin for being terrible elitist assholes a lot of the time.

Characters 6: Favorite character from each main sect (secondary is optional)?

I’d say kill Wen Ruohan and bring back Wen Ying, which would solve like, every problem (actually if wrh dies wy probably lives anyway so I could even bring back Lan-furen and let things go from there) but I feel like it’s cheating to pick a gap-filler oc created specifically to be an incredibly good parent. I would do it in a heartbeat though!! I would also just save Lan-furen to kill Jin Guangshan if I wanted to be a little less self indulgent

As much as I ship WRH/JFM, we gotta remember that they both got kids. WY would be emotionally torturing WC, taking the opportunity to embarrass him at every turn. WC is the victim of every prank. JC and WX would be fighting each other 24/7. JYL needs to go to therapy bc now she has 4 dumbass brothers to look after. JFM tries to get them to get along. Time Travelling!WWX in which he becomes the father figure to many

Cuz I’m a sucker for father figure!WWX:

- After canon, WWX somehow managed to travel back into time, but with his own original body + golden core

- Determined to prevent the tragedies he witnessed, he set off to first find out to what time he time traveled to, which he found out after his parents’ deaths

- Found and picked up his younger self (gonna name Younger!WWX as WY)

- Posed as his father’s long lost brother who recovered from amnesia

- Worked as a rogue cultivator to earn money; status and reputation crept higher after every mission he completed

- (Cuz i don’t know his age so im assuming he’s around the same age as the rest of the batch) One day, while walking around a very shady area of a city, he spotted a Younger!WZL being abused - quickly put an end to the abuser and also adopted Younger!WZL (imma call him A-Liu for this AU)

- A-Liu still has guard dog personality, swearing to protect both WWX + WY, thus becoming the official dog shooer

-  At another city, WWX saw a young XY wandering around the streets. After XY begged him for something to eat, WWX bought some sweet pastries for all four to eat. XY now joined the group

- Travelling around, he came across the younger versions of the sect heirs and inadvertently becoming father or uncle figures to them, always dropping by whenever he’s around

- Soon, the group went to Yunmeng where they met with younger JGY, which WWX resigned himself to also adopting another kid

- At Lotus Pier, he bumped into JFM along with YZY, JYL, and JC, giving JFM some closure that WY is being taken care of and to WWX that the Jiang family is happy and alive

- Once in a while, Younger!JZX also comes by to visit JYL. WWX had fun teasing Younger!JZX and Younger!JC, but also spent time with them playing (ofc without the dogs) or giving pointers on how to fight, along with WY, XY, MY, and A-Liu. Gives JZX some extra attention since WWX knows that JGS knows jack shit on how to raise kid, considering he’s off gallivanting around and spreading more seeds

- At Gusu, he met up with the Younger!Twin Jades and had a inner squealing moment when seeing Younger!LWJ. Teased both younger Lans. A lot. Comforted the Twin Jades after their mother’s death by playing WangXian on flute. His flute playing inspired LXC to also pick up the flute

- At Qishan, the group encountered a crying kid sitting somewhere alone, which WWX soon recognized as younger!WC. Was conflicted at first cuz older version did kill canon JFM and YZY, but still comforted young WC. WC then revealed that WRH had never cared much about his kids, only power, which leads to WWX thinking that WC only did such terrible actions in order to gain his father’s attention and affection. Thus, WC was under WWX’s (and A-Liu’s) protection

- Also at Qishan, he helped WN and WQ out, one with dealing resentful corpses and the other in healing their grandmother, which resulted the Wen siblings to be extremely grateful for him (and WQ demanding that the group visit them at least once a month)

- Fast forward to like 15 years later, an exasperated WWX, who merely has the intention of preventing tragedies from happening, now has a horde of very strong cultivators by his side and ready to murder if something happens to their beloved father figure

The Untamed (陈情令) Review: Ep 9

!!! SPOILERS AHEAD !!!

Previous episode review: 1 and 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8.

Get ready to be befuddled by all the Wen plot/stygian seal/zombification (and de-zombification) that went down in this episode!

The opening of this episode carries on from the zombified people (NOT corpses) who were trying to attack LWJ, WWX and NHS at the Dancing Goddess temple on Dafan Mountain in the previous episode. Just when it looked as though the three of them had to fight their way out of the zombified horde, the zombies just turned and left as they were under the control of music being played by a flute. WQ was the one who was playing the flute that controlled the zombies. HOLY SHIT. So is this why the live-action got a name change? Because the Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation is actually the GrandMISTRESS of Demonic Cultivation?!

JC joined the WWX/LWJ/NHS trio at the temple! Oh and reached new levels of tsun-ness in ALMOST confessing how worried he was about WWX disappearing on the Jiangs. :)

WQ told WWX that the zombified people were created/ controlled by energy from the stygian seal which WRH sealed in the Wens’ magical crow-like bird and that if they wanted to help de-zombify these people (de-zombification is a thing now???), they had to kill the bird. 

After creating a protective barrier around WQ, JC and NHS, WWX and LWJ went off to kill the bird (and WWX kinda nearly got killed in the process methinks). After LWJ and WWX killed the bird and walked off, WC appeared and looked like he was going to continue going after them for the fragment of the stygian seal. Dun dun dun DUN. 

WQ gets to tell (parts of) her backstory and clear up (some of) our confusion about what in the world happened at Dafan Mountain. And whatever that she was unwilling to say about it, WWX figured it out anyway. WQ is from a cadet branch of the Wen sect which specialised in practising medicine and was based on Dafan Mountain. The zombified (and now de-zombified) people are her relatives. 20 years ago, WRH removed a piece of the stygian seal from the Dancing Goddess statue's heart. Since the statue can’t feed on the stygian seal’s energy, it eventually came alive to feed on the energy of living people. WQ and WN’s father died after being attacked by the Dancing Goddess statue and WN himself looked like he had some part of his soul sucked away by the statue or something. WRH then took WQ and WN back to Qishan and raised them. 

I THINK WE GOT OUR FIRST LOOK AT BABY!LSZ/ WY IN THIS EPISODE. Like when they were all gathered at the Wen cemetery. 

I kinda want to see more of the process of JC and NHS trying to catch a cockerel and being dumbasses about it. :)

Best lines in this episode. WWX: “Maiden Wen, we were deliberately led to this place. The moment we entered the village, the old beggar woman led us to the Dancing Goddess temple. The Dancing Goddess came alive but only went after Lan Zhan, not the rest of us. If this has nothing to do with the stygian seal, there can only be one reason for this. ... She must like Lan Zhan!”. LWJ: “Shut your mouth.” Omg, WWX, please don’t project your crush on LWJ on others and/or announce it to everyone. JC already kinda noticed it back when yall were at the Cloud Recesses. XD

Collision of Yueyang-related bits from different time periods in the novel! The WWX/LWJ/NHS/JC quartet went to a tavern to hear about what unusual things have happened in the area (ie WWX and LWJ going to the tavern to hear about Yueyang stuff in the present timeline of the novel was moved forward to WWX’s flashbacks). What has happened was that the Yueyang Chang sect have apparently disappeared (ie what happened when WWX was dead in the novel was also moved forward to his flashbacks). But at night, there was the sound of somebody banging on the door at the Yueyang Chang sect’s residence (ie what WWX and LWJ learnt at the tavern in the present timeline in the novel was moved forward to WWX’s flashbacks to happen right after the slaughter). 

While they were at the tavern,  the Lan fragment of the stygian seal suddenly activated itself. LWJ, who had this fragment on him, suddenly got visions of the Chang sect people being slaughtered/ zombified and said that they should go to the Chang sect’s residence. Somehow, this has some Harry Potter/ horcrux or Lord of the Rings/ the One Ring vibes to it. 

WWX and JC agreed to go. BUT NHS insisted on remaining at the tavern to wait for MY/JGY to arrive. Why does the live-action production team WANT me to invest in a NHS/MY friendship and, knowing what is going to happen eventually, break my heart???

WWX, LWJ and JC went off to the Chang sect’s residence and found that: (1) the Lan fragment of the stygian seal was activated so somebody recently used another fragment of the seal here, (2) there was the sound of banging on the door, (3) the corpses of the Chang sect people were all over the place and (4) they were zombified before their deaths. 

Overall: 7/10. There was ALOT of information thrown at us and deviation from the novel to digest here. Plus, there was basically NO fluffy/shippy-ness so definitely not one of my fav episodes. Haha.

And yeah! A-Yuan was kidnapped just when things were going somewhere between Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji because I felt it was too happy. Also because I’m a sucker of quick changes of mood (see: in the first minutes of his birthday Lan Wangji was getting his first kiss; twenty-four hours later he was at the hospital after the man he’s in love with was nearly killed).

Speaking of their relationship, A-Yuan’s kidnapping has pressed the pause button to it; they will obviously have to talk about it, but right now there are more urgent matters to think about, so they refer to the other as ‘friend’ until things get sorted out.

Since you mentioned Meng Yao, he’s so, so fun to write! And now that his intentions and role (or lack thereof) have been revealed, it’s so interesting to see how people react to it. He’s obviously in survival mode, but it’s not as if he noped the hell out for a couple of weeks by himself; he took Lan Xichen, aka the person he treasures the most, with him. I mean, he definitely falls on the selfish end of the spectrum; but more than egoistical I’d say he has his priorities clear.

I don’t want to shoot myself in the foot, but I think the next chapter will be out soon, since it’s action-packed and I write tense scenes faster… By the way, I’m great!

2. Hi there! I've been trying to find this fic to re-read for a while now and I'm hoping that someone else recognizes it (and that it's not deleted!)

I believe it was in the "LWJ marries the Yiling Patriarch" category and there was a Yiling Wei sect or something similar (although it's been a very long time and I don't recall anyone else actually being in the sect so I could be wrong on either/both counts). WWX often went back and forth between the Burial Mounds and Baoshan Sanren's mountain via portal (?) as they were trying to cure Lan Yi of her spiritual malady (?). Last I still remember it was a WIP, and one of the little details that sticks in my mind was that BSSR had gotten WWX doing decorative knotwork to keep his hands busy, so the palace had incredibly intricate pieces, like, everywhere, and he often gifted it to people.

One of my favorite ideas for the LSZ is WRH's son concept is an au where WRH survives the ssc (maybe he's too weak or is in a coma from his injuries for some time so he wasn't able to stop the aftermath of the ssc) and he's now a hermit living in a mountain in qishan away from society because he wants to be left alone to meditate and contemplate on his past mistakes in peace believing that he is the only one that's left of his whole clan

And since he's living in isolation he doesn't hear about wwx's return or the downfall of JGY or the fact that WN is alive and then one day he meet LSZ on some night hunt and he immediately recognizes his youngest child that he thought was dead years ago but he has no proof and LSZ evades all questions about his birth so WRH decides to investigate and finds out WN is alive and goes to find him and when he does WN reveals everything

I suppose LSZ's reaction at 1st would be hostile to WRH, he would refuse to even recognize him as his father, which would be normal but eventually LSZ comes to term with it and starts to accept him

Meanwhile wangxian are shocked at 1st but then very protective of LSZ because they don't trust WRH but ultimately they will respect LSZ's choice if he wants a relationship with his birth father

I'm thinking wangxian and WRH eventually reach an agreement to not try to kill each other and let bygones be bygones for LSZ's sake but that doesn't mean they will get along

In fact this starts a rivalry between WX and WRH. On one side WRH is jealous that wangxian (especially lwj) are the ones that raised his son and thus they're the ones who know him best they're the ones he goes to for comfort when in pain they're the ones he sees as a role model... Etc meanwhile wangxian are jealous that WRH shares something with LSZ that they can never have, the bond of blood, they also feel that WRH tries to encroach on their territory and that he's trying to draw LSZ away from them and the Lans so they don't trust him at all.

So the 3 of them are extremely passive aggressive and petty to each other especially behind LSZ's back, the juniors even dub it "the war of the dads" and start a betting pool on whose going to win

This goes on until LSZ falls into some grave danger and wangxian and WRH have to work together to help him and they eventually end up realizing that they all care for him the same way and only want him to be safe and happy and so they learn to coexist

Lan Sizhui has never been hostile to anyone in his life, but he decides his first victim will be this sad and lonely hermit who committed the crime of *checks notes* being a Wen?? lol

My feelings on Wangxian+son and the erasure of the Wen Remnants as also being Wen Yuan's family aside, so long as Lan Sizhui looks at Wen Ruohan and eventually says, "Hello... Dad," with his nerves all in bundles and choked with emotion, I can roll with this! Wen Ruohan coming in post-canon to shake things up and Lan Sizhui getting more Wen fam is a lot of fun!

Also just imagine Wei Wuxian having flashbacks to this moment:

Wen Yuan immediately shook his head, whispering, "…I won't go… I still want Granny."

Wei WuXian pressed, "You want Granny, but not me?"

Wen Yuan pleased, "I do. I want Brother Xian too.” He messed with his fingers, counting one by one, “And I want Brother Rich, Sister A-Qing, Brother Ning, Uncle Four, Uncle Six…"

Wei WuXian tossed the butterfly back onto his head, "That's enough, that's enough. I'm gonna be drowned amongst all the people." (ch 75, ERS)

Wei Wuxian just cannot become Wen Yuan/Lan Sizhui's favorite!? Because even once all the Wen are dead, they are now coming back to life apparently, just like he did lmao

An alternative thought I have on all this is based on how Wen Ruohan had Wen Zhuliu protect Wen Chao, which makes me struggle to see Wen Ruohan being confrontational towards Lan Wangji for, essentially, protecting and caring for Wen Yuan. I know it's less dramatic than a big comedic family feud, but I personally find it more compelling to have a situation where Wen Ruohan might feel indebted to Lan Wangji.

(Wen Ruohan and Wei Wuxian's situation would be far more rocky considering Wei Wuxian hunted Wen for sport for three years and rumor has it that the Wen Remnants were Wei Wuxian's slaves/servants lol But Wei Wuxian still saved a group of them all the same!! Or tried to save them...)

Which is to say the real hostility in all this would might come from the Lan Sect and the Lan Sect rules. In the Iron Hook extras, Lan Sizhui can't even admit he's scared because it goes against the Lan Sect rules, and he fears being punished by Lan Wangji if he confesses to it. Imagine Wen Ruohan's alarm, to hear that his happy and lovable and playful child was stifled to such a degree!

Wen Ruohan, "Thank you for protecting and raising A-Yuan, but also Xu-er might have had a point about burning this place to the ground. No child should ever have to live here."

(But at least Wen Yuan had a chance to live!)

Although we should really consider a post-conclusion where it's Granny Wen that Lan Sizhui remembers and loves the most LOL

I think that people easily forget that wy is a genius unparalleled and unprecedented in cultivation. Not only in his ideas and inventions, but simply in what he could do. Like, before him no one had survived the burial mounds, and no one could have tamed them- there's a reason wen chao throws him there. The only one who can come close to him is lz. And even though canon tell us all this, jc stans still try to claim he could have done it too like pls how are we reading the same book?

Yes! WWX is unmatched by any character. No one could have done what he did! That isn’t even insulting JC, it’s just that WWX is that good. He outdid WRH, who was at least hovering on the edge of immortality if he hadn’t reached it already! This thing the JC stans do where they devalue every other character to make JC look better really needs to stop. He doesn’t have to be a mega-genius to be liked, and if you do require your faves to be That Good then maybe pick WWX as your fave going forward. The only thing putting JC above WWX is an accident of birth. Nothing else. JC certainly isn’t WWX’s equal in intelligence or cultivation; no one is.
