(blueespeon) Teiji @ Kyo
[The blue espeon speaks telepathically] Hello there! I have never seen you before anywhere. Quite a new face to see!
Of course, I approached you because I got a bit curious of your pokemon, particularly, your meowstic. Does she not have a name given to her?
I am quite curious about that, as my experience with humans is that they name the pokemon they have as their companions. I had a master as well, he named me Higan.
Though it did leave me with a bit of an identity crisis afterwards, as I learned that my real name given to me by my mother is Teiji.
Teiji is my name, but I still recognize Higan as my other name, so it is all good!
Sorry about that tangent for a bit, but my point is that this is not something I have ever really encountered before. I was still given another name by my master even though I already had one. To see a human that has not given their pokemon companion a name yet... That is a new thing for me.
Kyo closed one of her eyes as Teiji spoke into her mind. Her words came through crystal clear, though they did startle her a bit as the blue espeon caught her somewhat unawares.
Kyo listened closely as Teiji rambled on a bit about nicknames and their importance to her. She folded her arms across her chest and paused a moment after Teiji finished positing her question to Kyo. This was a delicate question. Kyo flicked her eyes towards Meowstic, who nodded in understanding. She seemed to be granting Kyo permission to answer Teiji's question.
"Well, firstly, Meowstic is her name. It is what she has chosen to go by, and I intend to respect that. Secondly, none of my Pokemon partners have 'nicknames', actually," Kyo answered, "well, except for Light, but it named itself."
Kyo pursed her lips a bit as she paused again, trying to formulate a response. "In asking me this question, though, you somewhat answered your own question. Much of my team, except for Meowstic herself, were not originally mine. They likely had names before they entered my care. Out of respect for that, I do not give them new names until they either express the desire to have one or tell my their original name.
"Light did not originally have a name, but it felt that the name 'Light' was suitable for it, hence why it has a nickname." Kyo reached over and scratched Meowstic behind her ears. "Even though I have had Meowstic since I was a child, she has yet to find a name she thinks is suitable for herself. Thus, I refer to her as Meowstic. That is her name, at least until she decides otherwise." Meowstic purred in response, rubbing up against Kyo and nodding in agreement. Kyo smiled a bit before looking back at Teiji. "I've never been great with nicknaming things anyway. I'd rather my team decide for themselves rather than force a name on them they'd not enjoy."

Kyo stared at Aya in disbelief for a moment. Surely, she had not heard the little gijinka correctly. Surely, Meowstic had translated this message wrong and she had not just heard Aya openly admit to sneaking off without notifying her fathers.
And yet, Meowstic's equal look of disbelief and concern told all.
"Little one," Kyo said in a calm but stern voice, "I do not be the one to put a damper on your fun, but I fear your dads likely will notice you're missing. Do you have any means by which we can contact them so we can let them know you're safe and not in any danger?"
(askthewhiterocket) Wandering near the beach with her Meowstic on her shoulder, Kyo spotted Aya in the process of making her sandcastle and drew her brows together in confusion. She looked around frantically for a moment before drawing closer and bending down near Aya. "Excuse me, little one, but... where are your parents? Are you here by yourself?"
Tumblr media
“My dads always say I should be carful and I can’t go down into the villages, but I’ve met so many people and they’ve all been so nice! And there was this fun festival that wasn’t even in a village on the island- so, I went by myself!” Aya explains with pride. “I’m sure they’ll be fine, they won’t even notice I’m gone!”
Meanwhile, back in the mountains….
“KENJI!!”
Tumblr media
“I checked Aya’s playhouse!! She’s not there!”
“Wh-what about the rest of the house??? Your workshop?? The garden???” Tomo asks. The Monkedori curled his hands into fists, trying to keep them from shaking.
“Y-yes, and she’s not there!” Kenji sputtered, sweat beading on his forehead and slipping down his cheeks. “I-I’ll go double check- I-“
“I’ll fly around,” Miu spoke up, tone stern. “I’ll ask Ichigo and check all the other places she likes. Don’t worry, she- or whoever is behind this- can’t have gone too far.”

PokeAsk Magi Retreat 2024 Intro Post
Tumblr media
“I’m still not sure this is a good idea,” Kyo said as they approached the event site.
“Oh come on. Ease up a bit! Nat invited us. He wouldn’t have done that if you weren’t on the nice list. You’re out of uniform. We’re just here to have a good time and relax, okay?”
Kyo took a deep breath and nodded. The invitation from Nat was tucked away in her pocket if necessary, but she couldn’t stop herself from feeling a bit uneasy. This was an island that was home to many legendaries. She had witnessed as much herself already. Even though it was a bit irrational, Kyo couldn’t help but feel like she was being watched by them at every turn. Though, perhaps she had the recent events at the base to thank for that.
“Okay, I’ll do my best.” She offered Meg a shaky smile. “Did you want to start with something in particular?”
Meg grinned back at Kyo and folded her arms in thought. “Well, the journey here was kind of long. Maybe we can start at the buffet? Though, I definitely want to go stargazing later. You don’t get views like this back in Kanto or Kalos!” She giggled excitedly as she gazed up at the sky. “If we’re lucky, we should be able to get a great view of the Quadrantids!”
Kyo’s smile grew and she relaxed a bit more as Meg enthused over the ongoing cosmic event. Coming here together was the correct decision, if only because Kyo felt a bit more at ease being here with someone she knew.
“Alright, let’s head over to that buffet then!”
Kyo and Meg are now available for asks.
Event Ask Hints and Event References have been created. Regular asks not centric to the ongoing canon plot can still be sent as well.

Kyo's shoulders relaxed a bit as Nat seemed to be in much better spirits than in their previous encounters. She had not been mistaken in hoping that she was welcome there after all, something that was of great relief to her.
Kyo lit up a bit at Daniella's compliment. "Oh um-! Thank you," she said, smiling. "Igual... igualmente?" she added awkwardly. "I think that's the right word. Your hair looks very lovely as well."
Kyo followed after Nat and bowed her head in greeting to Cooper. "Two champions afoot? I best watch my behavior then," she said, with a chuckle. "Nice to meet you as well. It's a pleasure to be here."
Kyo's smile grew as Nat returned to her side with a smile of his own plastered on his face. "Thank you, it means a lot. We're finding things well enough. You have quite a variety of visitors that I'm not quite accustomed to yet, but Meowstic has done wonderfully acting as my translator. I am ever envious of polyglots like yourself."
"Meg is also greatly enjoying visiting your island again, especially at night this time." She gestured over toward Meg who was currently fixated on the starry sky above them. "We don't get views like this back in our home regions. Too much light pollution in the big cities. She'll probably spend the whole visit regaling people with facts about the cosmos if we aren't careful." Kyo chuckled a bit to herself as she watched Meg.
"We really do appreciate the invitation though. It is nice to get out and be amongst others, especially folks as nice as you."
(askthewhiterocket) Kyo spotted Nat and approached him from across the room, an air of unfamiliar awkwardness surrounding her as she drew closer. "Nathaniel, good to see you again. I just wanted to thank you for the invitation. The island is breathtaking and, as promised, I'm out of uniform this time. You have quite the variety of guests here that I don't recognize. Would you mind introducing me?"
[Nat was in better spirits compared to their usual encounters, the festivities acting as a neutral ground and giving Nat a bit of grace in his interactions with her. He waved in greeting with a smile, nodding to Kyo.]
And I really appreciate it, glad you could make it out here. I'll run you down, sure!
Tumblr media
[Nat then walked over to a nearby table, clapping their hands onto someone's shoulders. Even if they saw him coming it still caused him to jolt, Nat laughing to himself about it.]
Tumblr media
[The two quickly bantered off of each other, finishing as fast as they started.]
Nat: You say that like you don't start things.
Cooper: Not always, La-
Nat: I'm stopping you right there, eat your damn food.
[Nat roughed him up for a few seconds before walking back over to Kyo with a smile on their face.]
Nat: Anyway, I'm happy to see you here, truly. Are you finding things alright? Need anything?

( @phantomguild ; ??? Vulpix )
Tumblr media
The strange Vulpix approaches the two humans, still cautious of the two of them, as well as just in general. On guard by default, their tails are spread out to make them seem just a little bit bigger, even though they have no hope of comparing to them in stature. Their voice was slow, almost tense in nature.
"You two. You're what many worlds call 'Pokémon Trainers', correct? Are any of the other Pokémon under your care with you to join in on all this?"
As the strange Vulpix spoke to Kyo and Meg, Meowstic and Cassie translated the message for them.
Meg's face lit up at the question. "Oh yes, I brought my entire team! Here, I'll send them out." Taking the Moon Balls off her belt, Meg tossed them all into the air. "Come on out, everyone! There's someone here who wants to meet you."
From the balls emerged a shiny Minior, a Rhyhorn, a Clefairy, a Magnezone, a shiny Wigglytuff, and a shiny Sigilyph. As they all looked around, getting oriented in the setting, they turned their attention to Meg. She waved eagerly before gesturing to the Vulpix.
"So my little translator here is Cassie. She's the best Rotom Phone a gal could ask for. Then this is my team! There's my partner, Halley. They're that shiny Minior there. Then there's my racing partner, Chiron my Rhyhorn. We've won lots of races back in Kalos together! Then that Clefairy is Mayall, the Magnezone is Roswell, the Wigglytuff is Sunflower, and the Sigilyph is Shapley!"
Kyo watched Meg closely as she introduced her team. She was positively beaming with excitement as she pointed to each member enthusiastically. Her affection for them, and in turn their affection for her, was quite plain for anyone to see.
"Kyo!" Meg's voice snapped Kyo from her thoughts. "Are you going to send out your team?"
Kyo stiffened a bit at the question, shifting her weight awkwardly from one leg to the other. "Oh um..." Kyo's gaze flicked back and forth between Meg and the Vulpix. "I think they shouldn't come out. Not with this many people around. Perhaps later in a more secluded area."
An awkward silence filled the area for a moment as Kyo fumbled her way around the question, not elaborating at all beyond that. After a moment, trying to ease the tension a bit, Kyo pulled her own Rotom Phone from her pocket. "But um... well this is my Rotom Phone. Their name is Light. Then this one here on my shoulder is my partner Pokemon, Meowstic. I've had her since I was a kid."
Meowstic bowed her head silently towards the Vulpix in greeting as she was introduced.

Pokeask Magi Retreat Exit Post
Kyo meandered along the beach with the towels in hand. Her clothes were still wet but at least she wasn’t nearly as drenched as she was before. She spotted Meg a little ways away, currently wringing out her jacket to try and get some of the water out of it.
“Meg!” Kyo called out, holding the towels in the air so she could see them.
“Oh Praise Zygarde. I am soaked to the bone and even the warm sea air can only do so much,” Meg said as she ran over to Kyo.
Kyo chuckled and held them out to Meg. “They won’t do much to dry our clothes but it will be at least something.”
“Appreciate it nonetheless,” Meg responded as she began to dry off. “Folks seem to be wandering off. Suppose the festivities are ending soon?”
Kyo glanced out towards the ocean and nodded. “Yeah, sun’s rising finally.” Kyo’s eyes widened as she spotted something moving across the horizon and hastily used her hand to lift Meg’s face. “Look! Out there!”
Meg looked out just in time to see the Magi flitter across the sky before disappearing along the horizon. She smiled and glanced back toward Kyo, taking in her gentle expression illuminated by the sunrise. Meg wasn’t sure she’d ever seen Kyo this relaxed before. “I’m glad we came. It’s been a nice break from everything, even if it was just for one night.”
“Agreed. Though, we should head out soon. Still have more questions than answers about…” Kyo gestured vaguely. “everything.” She frowned a little, knitting her brows together in worry. “Plus, I don’t want to attract that… thing here. I doubt Nathaniel and his family would appreciate that.”
Meg pat Kyo’s arm and offered her a smile. “Agreed, but do try not to fret too much. I’m sure they’d welcome us back if we ever needed to crash here again for a brief respite.”
“Yes, that’s true.” Kyo smiled at Meg in return, possibly staring for a bit longer than she should. It was hard not to though. The sunrise brought out the vibrancy of Meg’s hair and eyes. She really was quite pretty. “But alas, all good things must come to an end. Now come on, let’s depart before Nathaniel or someone else comes to chase us off.”
Meg let out a laugh before linking her arm with Kyo’s. “Of course, of course. You’ve been chased off enough by them, haven’t you?”
“Ugh please don’t remind me.”
Kyo and Meg have officially departed the event!

Kyo glanced over at Meg as Kita spoke to them once more. Meg rubbed her temples a bit as the psychic message rattled inside her skull. Kyo pursed her lips in thought a bit. Perhaps she could get Meowstic to help Meg get used to telepathic messages?
Looking back to Kita, Kyo couldn't help but raise her eyebrows at her explanation. She did say not to jump to conclusions but... it was kind of hard not to given the way she phrased it. Kyo couldn't say she was fond of the idea of Pokemon completely replacing humans but if the humans in Kita's world were helping out these new humanoid Pokemon then she supposed it couldn't be all bad or helped.
"Ooo the Elefest? That sounds exciting!" Meg enthused. "If you ever get the chance to visit other festivals, Kalos has many! Well, my Kalos does anyway." She giggled with amusement at the small correction. The prospect of multiple dimensions seemed to excite her. "With legendaries such as Xerneas and Yveltal, it's kind of hard not to have some amazing festivities."

(@pokege-ne-project ; Pop) Huh, more humans! They still weren't used to seeing so many in one spot, but it helps no other Pokemon seem upset by it. Maybe worth it to socialize with more humans?
Pop opted to approach Kyo, bouncing over to her. "Heyooo! Hopefully ya havin' fun 'round here? Hopefully I ain't the only newbie around." Just in case the human wasn't able to understand their speech, the Lopunny did their best to act out what they're saying, but whether that's successful is hard to say.
As Pop correctly guessed, the Lopunny's words came across only as what one might expect to hear from a Lopunny. Thankfully, despite Kyo only being able to decipher chirps and chittering from Pop, their message was not lost on Kyo.
Meowstic shifted her position on Kyo's shoulder and pressed her ear against Kyo's temple, using her telepathic abilities to pass along Pop's message into Kyo's mind. Kyo took a moment to process the psychic message before offering Pop a smile.
"Nice to meet a Pokemon here who doesn't seem all too frightened by my presence," Kyo remarked, "I doubt you're the only new visitor to the island. It's not my first ever visit to this place, I've been a handful of times before, but this is my first time visiting this so-called "Magi Retreat". So, I suppose you could consider me a "newbie" as well."
Kyo bent down a little and offered her hand. "Kyo Writer, at your service. This is my partner, and translator, Meowstic. A pleasure to meet you."

Sparkling Tides
Meg gasped in delight as she took notice of the shimmering ocean waters. The gold and silver display captivated her, becoming almost entrancing to look at. “Kyo!” Meg called, getting the attention of the nearby trainer. “Come look at the ocean waters!”
Kyo swiftly moved to Meg’s side before following her gaze towards the ocean. “Oh, yes, I remember Nathaniel mentioning something about this. Something about the shoreline lighting up in a brilliant display twice a year? He mentioned that it’s tradition on the island to dunk yourself under the water at least three times to wash away the negativity of the previous year, or something to that effect.”
“Oh, fascinating!” Meg looked over the tropical waters for a moment before suddenly taking hold of Kyo’s hand. “With all the negativity we endured last year, we should definitely take our blessings where we can. Come on!”
“Huh-? Wait, Meg, our clothes-!” Kyo shouted as Meg yanked her into the ocean water. Kyo reacted quickly, taking off her glasses and tossing them towards Meowstic, who still sat on the shore, clearly amused by the whole ordeal. “Don’t give me that look, you overgrown feline!” she called to Meowstic, who only continued to smirk as she caught Kyo’s glasses with her psychic powers.
Meg waded out deeper into the waters, clutching Kyo’s hand until they reached a spot she deemed suitably deep enough for dunking. “Oh I’m soaked to the bone already,” she said with a laugh.
“It’ll be even worse once we dunk ourselves under the water. We’ll have to ask Nathaniel for some towels, no doubt,” Kyo pointed out, a small smile crossing her face.
“A price well worth paying for a bit of good luck into the new year.” Meg took Kyo’s other hand in hers and squeezed them both. “Now come on! Let’s do this! Together on three!” she grinned. “One, two, three!”
Kyo and Meg dunked themselves under the Tano waters. Saltwater slightly burned the inside of Kyo’s nose as she went underwater, but the warmth of the ocean made the experience a bit more tolerable. Not nearly as frigid as those she was used to in Kanto and Unova. Resurfacing, both girls took in deep breaths.
Kyo rubbed her nose a bit, trying to clear off some of the water. “Agh, it burns.”
“Oh, come now, it wasn’t that bad! Come on, two more dunks! Ready?” Without waiting for Kyo’s response, Meg began to countdown. “One, two, three!” Meg quickly pulled Kyo back underneath the water for the second dunk. Kyo was prepared this time, anticipating the rush of saltwater around her as she went underneath the waves, but that didn’t keep it from still stinging just a bit.
They resurfaced quickly, taking another deep breath as they came back up. “Not as bad the second time,” Kyo remarked, earning a laugh from Meg.
“Oh dear, should we do the third one then? You might not want to leave the water after if you’re adjusting to it this quickly,” Meg teased.
Kyo scrunched up her nose a bit and broke one of her hands loose from Meg’s grip to splash her with the ocean water. “Oh shut it, you!”
Meg squealed and quickly retreated further into the water to escape Kyo’s splash attack. “Hey, no fair! You can’t launch a surprise attack on me while engaging in a sacred Tano tradition!”
“Oh yeah? Says who?” Kyo chased after Meg, using both her hands to splash Meg this time.
“Says me!” Meg raised her hands to try and block the onslaught of splashes coming her way to little avail.
Kyo quickly closed the distance between them and grabbed hold of Meg. “Well, then we better finish that tradition then.” Without giving Meg a chance to react, Kyo quickly counted. “One, two, three!” and pulled them both under the water.
She wasn’t quite sure if she was just imagining it or if the sparkling waters actually did have magical properties, but Kyo could swear she felt some sort of tingle run over her body as they went underneath the waves the third time. As they resurfaced, Kyo admittedly did feel a bit lighter than before they’d entered the ocean. Perhaps the tradition had worked its magic after all.
Meg clung to Kyo tightly, smacking her arm a little as they floated in the water. “You’re so mean!” she grumbled.
“Oh? Didn’t like it when I returned the favor of being unexpectedly submerged underwater?” Kyo teased back. Meg stuck out her tongue in response, earning a sharp laugh from Kyo. “Okay, okay, I got it. Come on, let’s get back to shore and see if we can borrow some towels from Nathaniel.”
“That would be nice. Maybe something warm to drink too. It’ll be really cold the minute we step out of the water.”
“And whose fault is that?” Meg smacked Kyo on the arm again before erupting into laughter alongside Kyo.
Exiting the water, the two girls were absolutely soaked from head to toe and the once pleasant sea breeze now sent shivers up their spines. Meowstic watched them with a bemused look on her face, Kyo’s glasses still in her paws. Using psychic, she lifted them towards Meg.
“Thank you, Meowstic,” Meg said as she took the blue frames from Meowstic’s psychic grasp. “Kyo, look here.”
“Hm?” Kyo turned towards Meg just in time for her to put the glasses square on her face. The world suddenly came into clear focus again, Meg’s face at the center of it all, and everything hit her all at once. Kyo froze up a bit, feeling her face flush bright red. She stammered a moment before adjusting the glasses to properly rest on her nose. “Th-Thank you…” she mumbled. “Let me- um… l-let me go get those towels real quick.”
“Ah- Kyo!” Meg started, as Kyo quickly took off down the beach in the direction of the dance floor.

(asktheisle) Nat- "Y'know, I've only ever seen a Team Rocket uniform in blacks and reds. Not to be curious or anything, but what's the reason for the blue and white color? Some other branching?"
Tumblr media
Kyo glanced around in confusion as more people seemed to join her little escort back towards the main base. Where were all of these people coming from? She groaned internally and made a mental note to speak with the staff of the base later. They were a military base, surely they weren't just letting civilians wander around willy nilly.
She looked back over at Nat, eyes resting on him for a moment in recognition of the somewhat familiar face, before she turned and began to walk off, motioning for the others to follow.
Tumblr media
"I assure you, we couldn't be more different," Kyo said, "It was... a rather unfortunate design choice. Though, it was undoubtedly intentional on the part of the politicians who founded the program in the first place. Anyone involved in the field knows how fond they are of acronyms and vague symbolism. Though I suppose at least this acronym was... unique," she added with a grumble.
Kyo waved her hands a bit as she spoke. "I doubt I need to tell either of you this, but for the sake of clarity, allow me to give a small history lesson. Team Rocket, the individuals with the black uniforms and red Rs, was a rogue black market organization whose entire purpose was to exploit Pokémon and people for profit. After their attempted takeover of the Silph Corporation, their leader, Admin Carr, was arrested. Those that were not arrested that day fled to the Johto region, where they are currently seeking asylum.
"The WHT RCKT program, or the White Rockets as we're more colloquially known, was founded in direct response to this and the rising tensions that followed. We are a counter-force, if you will, who work to rehabilitate and assist those who suffered at the hands of Team Rocket."
Kyo pushed up her glasses and looked over her shoulder at Nat. "Does that answer your question? I would rather you not regard us with suspicion during future visits, if at all possible."

Kyo stirred the straw of her drink a little in thought as she pondered Pop’s question. “Unfortunately, yes. More often than I’d like, in all candor.” She let out a small melancholy sigh. “It’s not widely known but the organization I work for handles a lot of Pokémon who were formerly abused or mistreated by humans. We rescue them from this situations or they find their way to us and we help them. My team, with the exception of Meowstic, were all given to me by my employer in the hopes that I might be able to assist in rehabilitating them.”
Kyo looked up at Pop before turning her gaze out towards the sea. “It’s slow progress. They’re reluctant to open up, reasonably so. But eventually perhaps they will come to trust me. It’s just a matter of patience and time.”
(askthewhiterocket) Kyo @ Pop: I have to say, I've noticed a fair number of the guests at this party aren't very familiar with humans, and if they are, it's usually through not-so-great experiences. You don't have to get into specifics, but I'm curious, is it the same for you?
Oh! Pop is prepared to try to act out what they'll respond with just in case, though hopefully they'll have some help.
Tumblr media
"Huh, funny ya say that. I kinda hoped mostly everybody 'ere just had positive moments w'humans, but ain't blamin' them there. Guess that means more work later." The Lopunny stretched their right arm. "Anyways!"
"I definitely ain't unique to that camp, but weirdly, I don't think it really bothers me anymore. Once upon a time it did, and ya could call me the angriest little 'bun in the big city." Pop laughed about the last sentence, but they quickly curbed it. "Sorry if that ain't funny to ya. Can't really explain why it is t'me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"If ya don't mind me askin', are ya used to meetin' a lotta 'mons with that same experience? Wish it's somethin' super rare, but it's good seein' humans that care 'bout this kinda thing."

A tall young woman stands in front of a group of soldiers. "Alright! Dismissed!" she shouts with a wave of her hand. "Return here in one hour to begin your drills with Lieutenant Maxwell."
"Sir, yes sir!" the soldiers shout back before dispersing to their various stations.
The woman glances at the Meowstic on her shoulder. "Good set of drills this morning. The recruits are shaping up nicely, wouldn't you agree?"
The Meowstic gives a sharp nod. 'Yes. I think they'll be field ready soon, for better or worse.'
"Let's hope you're right," the trainer responded, "we don't have time to spare these days."
Approach them?

(Cherry@Both) The flaafy approached both humans with a smile, “Your outfits are super cute! What made you decide on these clothes?”
Cassie beeped as she translated Cherry's message to Kyo and Meg. Meg squealed in excitement and clasped her hands together. "You like our outfits? Oh, thank you! I wasn't entirely sure what to wear but I wanted to do something different than what I usually travel in. It's nothing super fancy, but it's nice to have a different outfit for a change."
Kyo crossed her arms and scratched her neck a bit at the compliment. "Thank you," she mumbled awkwardly. Was she... self-conscious? "I don't normally wear stuff other than my uniform. It's what we're required to wear when on base, you see. But the host, Nathaniel, requested I wear something that wasn't that when I visit the island in the future, so I picked something I thought most appropriate from the small selection of casual-er clothes I have." Kyo scratched her Meowstic's head a bit then added in a quiet voice. "I just really like Meowstic."
