Sun/Moon opposition with Virgo/Pisces, talent triangles between his Scorpio Pluto/Capricorn Saturn (and outer planets)/Virgo Sun/Mercury - Gemini Mars AND Leo Venus that’s inconjunct to his Pisces Moon wow!! 💓💗💞💓💗💞

So I’ll walk you through, notice his Virgo Sun/Mercury and Gemini Mars? They’re squares but that also means he’s amazing at relaying his thoughts/personal opinions (esp. with combust mercury) even though it frustrates him sometimes. He probably does his best, or constantly try to strive for his best at self-expression even though it frustrates him to come back and think about it. At certain times, because it’s in opposition to his Pisces Moon (that seems to be a bucket handle/singleton) he may often process this emotionally. Virgo/Pisces can be quite hard on themselves, but with time (i’m sure he’s learnt) that self-management helps him work through his mental state better. More so than that, the re-occuring theme Virgo/Pisces (anyone else with this) has to look out for is the sudden anxiety of coming back online or feeling the need/obligation to do so for others. Dependability even when - like, when they were doing it, they think ‘hey this is nothing like what i was worried about lol it’s actually v relaxing/fun to do!’ - or just, y know meeting someone for the first time in a while can make them anxious because there’s expectations they set on themselves to do well. However, he DOES have a Leo Venus/Gemini Mars and Capricorn Saturn - so what this does is quell some of the anxiety a bit- like ‘ah fuck it! let’s just do it!’ tends to help a lot with cardinally getting shit done. I mentioned Leo Venus/Gemini Mars bc they’re squared- talking about action, the idea of just doing something and getting it done provided also by Capricorn Saturn - trusting in the security/stability of what was already established- tends to help with that mutable energy/anxiety once you’ve tuned in on how to use it! 💓💗💞

For those who may - also- suffer from mutable anxiety- literally just do something and keep an open-mind. Things will turn out for the better, tune into that flippable energy that allows you to be on your toes and handle a situation as it comes. There is less of a chance of a situation that you won’t know how to handle than there is one where you can work it out on the fly. AND it turning out better than over-thinking it! If you suffer from your mouth being loose and regretting it later - turn that emotional shame/embarrassment into a conscious goal - like a thought - ‘ok im NOT going to do that next time and be conscious of doing THIS instead, as it sets my foot on the right path and THEN i can run with it’ -- this can tend to help adopt a better habit/routine and ALSO make you utilize YOUR energy in an efficient way!!

Ok so, back to him. Virgo/Pisces sun-moon. Let’s get it. I don’t think his Leo Venus would? allow him to think about these things consciously. Being true to himself is key (more about that later) but underlying everything/decisions - there’s a core/stem of - Is he doing enough? Is it emotionally true? Is he being sincere/genuine or was it him striving for practicality/reality of the situation? Pisces Moon has a sensitive touch to self-expression, so these things ‘ringing true’ or somewhat ‘true’ gives him the emotional releases he needs. If it doesn’t - then occasionally it’ll drive the person up the wall with how ‘genuine’ (or calling themselves ‘disingenuous’) they’re being (or striving to be). They want to do their best, and with that Virgo in mind, he’s probably constantly trying to perform his best no matter if it’s in his daily life or something else.

Another cool thing to note is also Virgo/Leo in a person- they tend to be more ‘ah fuck it’ about certain things. A problem they can’t solve (on paper/text-book?) even with research? Take a break. It’ll come. There’s solutions to stuff, but with the practicality of Virgo and with the instinctive self-assessment of Leo - they can APPEAR to be something but is actually rather chill and laid-back about it. Certain things that people drive themselves up the wall over- they tend to learn life-lessons and in not over-stressing themselves, and trying to find the best/practical solution instead (think efficient not hard) - even if that Leo can be lazy but ALSO work hard when it FEELS like it wants to.

That ties into Leo Venus now, with Leo Venus squaring Gemini Mars (even though it’s out of sign) - he may strive to be a person who walks the walk, not just talk the talk. This is more of a personal goal/attention in detail to keep in mind- from like, an internal point of view. This Leo Venus can talk about desire to be true to the self, and if it’s squaring Gemini Mars- sometimes it may feel like what he’s saying doesn’t completely align- unless he’s obstinate enough to think he believes in what he says and roll with the punch/oblivious to it anyways. And thus working on perfecting that, remedying or contributing to saying what it is he can back up is important. Not just this- but with Capricorn Saturn trine to his Sun/Mercury - he has his head set in building a sincere, concrete and reliable ‘realness’ in his personality and public respect. Self-expression IS key, especially with Leo/Pisces in his personal placement and luminary. Most likely, it’s about the intuition and does it ‘feel’ right part of himself that can drive him forward. As that Pisces is also his bucket handle, and thus everything he does - all of his placements, as assessed/have to pass through that Pisces Moon in order for it to express itself openly.

Integrity is also a key thing for Leo Venus especially, considering Venus talks about relationships and other people. Seeing this in others is important, the idea of walking the walk and talking the talk. Certain people who only flaunts/talks about certain things, or are one-dimensional in their ideas/thinking can be frustrating to be around. Especially with someone who has Capricorn Saturn, Virgo Sun/Mercury, Scorpio Pluto aspected to those two and a Leo Venus. Show off your colors but care more about the things underneath, whats the idea underneath it and does it shine through in their self-expression? There’s genuinity that drives him forward, as well as intellectual property of something- it’s potential/what to do with it. These things are important, and it’s what ‘dazzles’ the Leo Venus to be attracted to these ideas/concept because it allows space for them to share these things with like-minded or people they can communicate with on a ‘real’ level. But these are - y know- people, so it’s hard to find and also very circumstantial!!!

Anyways. More about him. Capricorn Saturn. Being treated and trusted as someone who is stable/credited as genuine or real to the best of his ability/what he perceive is lacking from others/the world is important. And often with Virgo Sun/Mercury - relaying it down into words/written can often help with that. It’s also a part of a talent triangle he has. It aspects his Capricorn Uranus/Neptune as well - but I’ll talk about Saturn since it’s? more of an impact/important.

Capricorn Saturn/Virgo Sun-Mercury we talk about realness right? Reputable, doesn’t matter if it’s a slow start as long as it’s genuine and built by their own genuinity and sincerity. Scorpio Pluto adds to this with it’s sextile position to both of these placements - sometimes it’s about seeing/analyzing and observing what IS lacking from the ‘truth’ of the world and making sure the Capricorn/Virgo adds influence to that. The fire venus certainly adds to it’s flame- wanting to show it’s genuine desire to be ‘it self’ (and is itself, but more importantly to be accepted as itself) - whilst Gemini Mars is the outlet- keeps it on the toes, on his feet. Working on it. Say what’s need to be said, sometimes- unexpectedly or without realizing the consequences. BUT it’s sextile to Jupiter in Leo - thus, it probably often works out. When it’s said with the subtext of teaching someone how to be truer to themselves or self-expression.

There’s a strive/desire to make changes happen coming from that talent triangle, Scorpio Pluto as the apex working with his Virgo Sun/Mercury’s natural talent and focus on those desires. If you can imagine- if Scorpio Pluto focuses and zooms into perspectives/pov at hand, analyzes and collects what needs to be done with it - then this sextile to the Virgo Sun/Mercury helps form a clearly analytically strong- and often opinionated/constructive thought/expression in order for it to be expressed out into the world. They’re often intelligent, but also tends to not - notice or realize this about themselves? Things closer to the Sun are often blinded by it’s light. The Ego can often make things personal without one realizing it’s tied to it. Changes happens, whether it’s in his expression or something else. Because it affects other people’s lives as well, perhaps those in need (Capricorn/Leo honestly)

What website is it easy to spend too much time on? Reddit. I used to spend hours on end on Reddit back when I had just discovered it and saw how many subreddits I can check out, but I’ve toned down these days. I mostly use scroll through the popular tag to help me fall asleep, but I still spend a lot of time on it nonetheless. What's been bothering you lately? One of my classes is a subject I never really wanted to venture into because it will demand me to be insanely extroverted, but I didn’t have a choice but to take it and now I’m worried for my sanity for the next four months. Do you ever get cravings for cheese? Yeah but I’m not as crazy for cheese as most girls around me seem to be lolol. Cheese is ayts. I mostly like it as a dip for Korean barbecue, and I don’t really like the more challenging/funky cheeses. Do you ever crave affection? Yep, sometimes I act needy towards my girlfriend. Would you name your baby after someone or give him/her his or her own name? Their main name would be their own, but I wouldn’t be opposed to having their second name be a tribute to somebody important to me. For instance, if I have a son I’ve always thought of giving him Owen as a second name as an homage to Owen Hart.

Do you have a magical/Pagan name?

Not really? I suppose Amethyst, but I don’t have a name, per se, outside of my normal one.

How did you find Paganism?

I had been a Baptist/Nondenominational Christian for a long time and just was getting tired of all the BS. I didn’t connect with it or relate to it anymore and couldn’t find spirituality with it anymore. I had been follow pagans and Christopagans on Tumblr a while and just thought it was so interesting. The more I read about it the more I just wanted to try it. On the eclipse of 2017 I decided to hold my first ritual and went… Guess I’m Pagan now??? I’ve been working on researching and building up a practice ever since.

How long have you been practicing?

I guess 3 years now, wow. :)

Are you out of the broom closet?

Ish? Not to the general public, but my mom and husband and brothers know, and my closest friends know.

Solitary or group practitioner?

Mostly solitary, but I do have a small group of friends who like to hold rituals on occasion.

Not really sure - I think that all of the gods exist as themselves in some way or form, but I also believe that syncretism makes sense, especially since it’s historical… so… somewhere in between hard and soft?

Iris, Hades and Persephone, Selene, and Artemis are the main ones in my circle of worship.

What Gods do you worship?

The Theoi - Greek Gods and Goddesses

Do you fear darkly aspected Gods/Goddesses, or rather respect them?

Considering Hades and Persephone are among those I worship, that’s a tough one, lol. I do fear things like death and what might be considered dark, but I’m starting to come to terms with those aspects and respect them more.

Do you worship the Christian God?

I used to, but I don’t anymore. More like... I respect him and the aspects that he represented within historical context.

Do you worship animals? Or plants?

No.

Do you regularly commune with nature?

Not really, but I’d like to try to.

Gone camping plenty and appreciate being close to nature, but have never done that.

I can’t describe a singular moment, but I know that when I was younger, I always was awed by nature whenever we would go hiking in the mountains of Virginia or Georgia.

What are your favorite plants to work with?

I love herbalism and using plants for medicinal qualities - lavender and lemon balm are probably my favorite at the moment.

Wouldn’t say I work with them, but I love the smell of evergreens.

What is your favorite holiday?

Hmm…. I really like Samhain and Yule, although I want to be more mindful of holidays and festivals that are on the Athenian calendar. Still a lot to learn!

What is your least favorite holiday?

Probably Ostara - with Christian families, Easter gets put down my throat pretty heavily.

Have you ever held a ritual on a holiday?

I did my first holiday ritual this past Samhain! It was a basic offering of honey cakes and wine paired with a few Orphic Hymns, but it was so nice to share it with friends.

Ever taken a day off work to celebrate a Pagan holiday?

No.

Do you celebrate Yule on the 21st rather than the 25th?

I’d like to start celebrating the solstice properly on the 21st, but as my family is heavily Christian, Xmas on the 25th will forever be a present thing. I don’t mind so much, as I like presents, but I’d just rather skip out on having to go to Mass or a sermon…

Look, the casual dismissiveness isn’t going to work for me. I’m sure I don’t have a chance in hell of changing your mind about the whole biblical marriage thing, but that’s not really what this is about. There is something in between “open hostility” and “disapproval”. You guys are openly celebrating the fact that you have an entire demographic of people missing from being represented in our community. The reason that bothers me is because, guess what, I am one of those people. And yeah, I’m still saying “our”, because presuming that you and I believe the same Book and the same carpenter then I don’t get to choose whether you’re in this family, and you don’t get to choose if I am in this family. That’s God’s department and I am not going to ascend to such arrogance as to assume that you’re not my sibling because we disagree on some things.

So about that “rebuking” thing, you’re right. That’s part of living in community. So I’m going to be straight with you, it’s clear that you think that someone like me, who’s queer, is openly living in sin. (Not currently in a relationship but w/e). I’m remembering a lot of points where the twelve decided that there were people in Jesus’ retinue who made them uncomfortable or that they disagreed with. (Luke 7:36-50; Luke 19:1-10; Matthew 19:13-14, etc etc.) and last I checked Jesus didn’t say “oh they’re welcome to follow me so long as they switch to a biblical worldview first” and in fact rebuked the disciples for trying to exclude people. In fact, he rebuked the disciples for trying to exclude people every single time it happened. We don’t have a single instance of Jesus ever saying “wow it is just so refreshing that we don’t have even the slightest sign of tax collectors, gentiles, etc etc!!” — you know who says that shit? Pharisees.

I’m not going to debate the marriage thing with you because frankly that’s going to get into more exegesis, church history, and biblical Greek and Hebrew than I want to get into on a tumblr post. But the reason why I want to have this discussion with you publicly is because I don’t think you have any idea the level of privilege that you’re speaking from when you sit there and say “there are other places for you to be”, and to loftily proclaim that your reading of scripture is the only reading of scripture. It drips of arrogance, my friend. You’re assuming that I haven’t spent years crying and praying about this, studying my Book, going through years believing that God wasn’t cool with me because I’m attracted to women. I spent years studying this shit and it made me suicidal, and I’m not the only one. It’s callousness like what you’re displaying now that has made queer people leave the church or even kill themselves. That’s not a guilt trip, that’s me trying to get you to realize why this is serious and why I’m choosing to engage with you about this. I’ve studied this (and I can say this fairly confidently) probably a heck of a lot more than you have by virtue of the fact that it matters personally to my faith and my relationship with God. It’s blatantly obvious to me that you think that your view of scripture is the only correct view. If you genuinely want to discuss the actual scripture im happy to do that out of the public sphere, but I’m not going to get into it here.

What I am going to address is “you are welcome to post fics with a BIBLICAL worldview”. So…what’s the worldview here? That queer people don’t exist? Because that’s patently untrue. I want you to think about what you’re asking me to do here. You are asking me to separate portions of myself into two boxes: the christ box and the queer box, and that’s not going to work for me. I’m a Christian and to me, that means that Christ uh…you know…is lord over every aspect of my life? Idk a crazy thought. Here’s what you said about the tag:

I saw fics in this tag that involve assault, murder, abuse, and all manner of other similar topics. The “slash” fics I was planning on tagging involve characters who are dealing with trauma and guilt and are being loved despite it, are being given grace and patience and a chance to heal. Last I checked, that’s pretty biblical. But it’s two men…so you’re going to tell me that’s ALL that matters about it? That the worth of my art and the messages in it all go out the window because it involves a gay couple? That gay people don’t also get to experience unconditional love and grace and healing? That we just don’t belong in these kinds of stories at all?

So…you think that the most important thing about a person, the thing that makes or breaks their entire identity, isn’t actually the work Christ is doing in their life, but in fact it’s just who they’re attracted to?

Please think about this.

You guys were pretty clear that your tag was simply meant to signal that the themes of an artistic work are influenced by faith. Pretty much all of my work delves into themes of healing, redemption, discovery, grace, justice, and light conquering darkness. That’s why I felt like my work belonged here, and to say that only half of it does is to tell me that only half of me belongs with Christ. That’s not only untrue, that is dangerous ground you’re walking on. No, I am not going to let that go unchallenged.

You’re right, you do get to decide who is in your group and who isn’t. But I just want you to maybe take the time and think critically about what you’re doing here. Because you’re making it really clear right now that you think you’re capable of seeing who the “real” Christians are and who is “really” in the church. Last I checked, that’s kind of God’s job. Yes, we’re meant to call out sin where we see it and help urge each other on in this race we’re in. We were explicitly told, multiple times, that salvation isn’t up to us. I know where I stand with my carpenter. Don’t call something “unclean” that God has made “clean”. (Acts 10:9-16).

And also, okay be homophobic. But at least be honest about it. I’ll stay out of spaces I am not welcome. Either your tag is a space for people who feel their faith impacts their work, or it’s a space for people who YOU feel fit in your group. Make up your mind.

I’m not going to block you just in case you want to continue to have a reasonable discussion either in public or in private. I’m going to assume we’re siblings. You can block me if you want, but I’m going to ask that you extend me the basic respect of not assuming that we don’t talk to the same carpenter on a daily basis and that I’m not just as genuine in my faith and reading of scripture as I am assuming you are. Pride is a sin.

It’s really hard to express how devastated I am about this whole tag situation. Not because the homophobia hurts me (it does) but because I really wanted it to work & it’s already now deteriorated into yet another tool to link my faith with homophobia. The tag has escaped containment in the worst possible way. It sucks that we are just out here confirming this link to hate and exclusion which is literally the exact opposite thing a certain carpenter died about, y’know?

I saw the salt and light tag compared to the fish symbol from the early church and I was like ‘shit that’s an awesome idea!’ — because guess what? People passing that symbol around weren’t just Jewish men. They were women and gentiles and slaves and eunuchs all the groups told they fundamentally weren’t allowed in religious spaces. People like me. But they had a little symbol and they could use it to find other people in their community.

It makes me almost want to keep using it just to spite it all lmao but the last thing I want is to accidentally guide someone into a cesspool that might harm them, and that’s really fucking sad that I have to think that way about people I’m supposed to be in community with a capital ‘C’ with.

Anyway TLDR, me to the “salt and light” tag. You’re anything but, and:

okay, you know, i changed my mind? i’m cleaning house today, airing out laundry, so why not do the same emotionally?

it’s been weighing on me too long and making me feel like a bad person but i’ve been so terrified of burning bridges that i never want to admit when i have a different opinion social-justice/spiritual-wise than my friends on here.

bc a lot of people seem to have the attitude that having a different political opinion than someone means you literally can’t interact with them again or continue being friends.

which i understand, it’s an online safe space and you want to surround yourself with like-minded people so you can enjoy your time away from the real-life people whose opinions you’re stuck around. tumblr is kind of the only place you CAN talk to ppl about lgbt, race, gender, etc issues and avoid other types of ppl.

but it just seems so, in a way, divisive and un-productive to alienate people who you enjoy talking to and being friends with, who share all of your political, social justice beliefs except ONE or TWO....just because their ideology doesn’t match perfectly with yours.

especially when they’ve been respecting your opinions the entire friendship and there’s no reason you wouldn’t be able to continue talking just without discussing those topics you’ve never discussed in the first place because they’ve been silent about them...

so maybe i’m afraid of all my friends finally learning my two differing opinions and immediately going “wow youre a bigot we cant be friends” and maybe thats presumptive and wrong but i can’t help my instinctual worries, you know? am i putting up too much self-defense here??

i hope i dont sound attack-y which i’m worried i might because whenever i get ranty....but whatever, this is all just MY opinion and if you read it i hope you can understand where im coming from and then, take from it what you will.

.hhmm. enough stalling...

ive never been “anti” otherkin--as i understand it’s a spiritual belief for some and a coping mechanism for others, and there’s no reason for me to bash that or find any fault with people who just feel a connection to a certain animal or whatever. that’s been happening for all of human existence, there are religions which believe in reincarnation, and i’m agnostic anyways.

i wasn’t raised religious, tho my mom was raised catholic--she wanted my sister and i to come to god on our own terms in our own time instead of being brainwashed by a church since babyhood. so far it just made us very secular. but i’ve had jewish, christian, muslim friends, and never disrespect anyone’s spiritual beliefs. i do preach separation of church and state and hold the political views that come with that, but i believe in freedom to express religion as long as it doesn’t infringe on another human’s rights.

but when it goes past otherkin...people identifying as animals, plants, and galaxies, that doesn’t harm anything--but when it comes to fictionkin and factkin it makes me very uncomfortable.

it feels extremely like theft of intellectual property and theft of identity. factkin, i have never actually seen a person identifying as, just people having “discourse” over, so i dont know if its even real but if it is...i dont even know if i have to argue against it, it’s literally pretending to be another person who is alive?? and is themselves. it’s way beyond wrong to pretend to actually be a famous person, and it is NOT a healthy coping mechanism. it could actually really scare or harm that person they’re pretending to be.

fictionkin is something i have seen a LOT and have friends who id that way, so that’s i guess the big topic here. no problem with otherkin, no one i know is factkin, but fictionkin....

i understand where it would come in as a coping mechanism, i really do. i can relate. i have characters that i’m very attached to, that i relate to very much, that i look up to and want to emulate. some of them i even feel unreasonably possessive over, like “well that’s my favorite character, they can’t be your favorite character if they’re already mine” which probably comes in to play with fictionkin feeling like they ARE the character so nobody else can be the character.

but the thing is, i can’t help but to feel like it’s intellectual property being stolen. it’s one thing to roleplay, to say “hey i know i dont own this character but i’m gonna pretend to be them and explore different scenarios.” the same for cosplaying or writing fanfiction and making fan art. using characters somebody else created to INSPIRE your own art is all fun and games as long as you dont claim to own any of the copyrighted materials.

claiming to BE the fictional character is totally claiming to own it. not legally obviously, i don’t think any fictionkin think they legally have rights to their kin, but definitely a huge mark of ownership to say “This is Me.”

they didn’t create that character. they didn’t spend hours, days, months, pouring their heart soul sweat blood and tears into bringing that character to life. the writer/artist did. when you write, you put literally all of yourself into your characters. every bit of it comes from your thoughts, your unique worldview, the things you’ve seen and learned all mixed together and spat out in a new form. it all comes from the mind of the character’s creator. in a way, their characters are each, them, or have their blood running through their metaphorical veins.

i am PASSIONATE about writing.

claiming to BE that character, that a writer put so much of themselves into, is almost like claiming to be that writer too. at least like carving out a piece of their mind and saying “this is mine, it came from my life in another universe. it doesn’t belong to you. it’s not a unique pattern of emotions and ideas and creativity that you spent years developing. it’s just me from another universe, what a coincidence, right?”

it’s so offensive to steal another person’s hard work like that. and tumblr--tumblr--is supposed to be this place where people care about art theft and crediting the owners matters? and that makes me very, very uncomfortable as an aspiring writer who has my own original characters developing in my head.

important side note: i dont think you can say that fictionkin doesnt actually hurt anyone the way factkin obviously would. i have seen personal accounts from people on tumblr that said people were tagging their ocs/self portraits as kin, or telling them that they were kin with their ocs and they were writing the story wrong in some way, and they were very distressed by it.

so. i have never said anything because i dont want to hurt anyones feelings and i dont want to lose friends, but i also have to be honest and say what i believe if i want to respect myself as a person. so that’s what i believe.

and i don’t think it’s a necessary course of action to cut off ties with someone because they dont believe in fictionkin. its like stopping being friends with someone because they have a different religion than you. i’ve had christian, jewish and muslim friends and as i said, i’m non-religious.

i understand that maybe identifying as a character is more tied with your personal identity than your religious identity, so it’s natural you would feel like people should accept that that character is part of your personality--but please understand that i can accept that there are aspects of all those characters in you and that you relate to them, without expecting me to believe that infinite universes AND reincarnation across those universes exist, which is more than any of my religious friends have asked of me. (ie no one has tried to convert me to their personal spiritual beliefs)

so that said, idk if anyone read all of this, but if you want to stop being my friend over it i wont try to make you change your mind. if youre uncomfortable talking to me after this, its fine and i wont push it. i gave my reasoning for why im willing to stay friends and put our different beliefs aside so know that youre always welcome in my life if you want to be, but i wont force you if you dont.

Wen Junhui/Moon Junhui(kor) aka Jun - so jun is ½ of china line and ¼ foreign line. A dancing noodle from southeast China wow (I say noodle bc he is a skinny bean and also v flexible bc he does martial arts things wow) he did Kung Fu in china for a long as heck time and does a lot of kicky things and flips and he’s super cool ALSO FUN FACT: HIS NAME IS JUN AND HE WAS BORN IN JUNE WOOHOO a lot of people assume he’s like sly/greasy but that’s mostly him in like interviewy shows?? But in reality shows and vlives he is actually just such a cute sweet bean and he loves the members so much! He was a child actor in china and was p famous I think for a while?? His stage name Hoshi means star in Japanese bc he shines in stage! And he knows Japanese pretty well I don’t think he’s fluent but he cute cute cute!! Anyway people rec him to go on hit the stage (WHICH I AM SO HERE FOR (but also let him rest he needs a break dear god they all do)) he creates all of svt’s dances wow (w help from perf team ofc) but he is actually the squishiest sweetest boy off stage but then on stage he completely transforms into whatever concept like he can take on anything?? He goes by 10:10 bc his eyes are like the hands of a clock at 10:10 wowie and EYE SMILES FOR DAYS~ just a sweet lil bab w a pure heart honestlyJeon Wonwoo (wonu aka the loml) - goddammit I hate jeon wonwoo JKJK OKAY SO JEON WONWOO IS MY ULT BIAS IMMA DO MY BEST TO KEEP THIS CONCISE BUT IDK HOW IT’S GONNA GO I HAVE A LOT TO SAY! jeon frickin wonwoo has the deepest voice in svt and is known for his deep, smooth rap style wow (his rap style is really unique like if you listen to it it sort of ebbs and flows w the music and he drags out notes sometimes it’s so nice fuck) he sings all the time it’s so great and the members always ask him to read things bc (he’s good at reading generally and) he has his nice deep voice ahh~ JEON FRICKIN WONWOO IS THE BIGGEST DORK IN THE WHOLE WORLD jeon wonwoo enjoys making bad puns and reading books (esp romance ones I hate him). The other members act like they hate his jokes but they always laugh at what he says and when he was gone (rip he was sick for a couple months from end of may ish to july ish) they mentioned that they missed his dumb jokes (and so did I). He considers himself to be the best looking (what a ho) and he is naturally skinny which a lot of the members are jealous of (but tbh this could be partially because he has a lot of health issues and allergies I just want to care for him and make him food and feed him forever so he gets fat and happy help me) On one fine day he was dubbed the garden fairy and also jeon wonwoo bag of luck oh my god I am so embarrassed by him (jk I love him w the entirety of my heart in case you couldn’t tell) Some of my favorite things abt wonwoo are his little nose crinkles when he smiles and his glasses that look just so cute on him and when he wears big sweaters and then he has sweater paws and he looks so cuddly and soft. He is also so boastful like he is always the first one to support himself it’s so funny but he doesn’t exactly brag it’s more confidence idk but he’s also rlly smart and good at acrostic poems bc he reads so much:) He also always cheers for other members when they want him to i.e. seungkwan when he cheers for himself. He seems shy when he’s on talk shows but I think he just wants to let other people talk but on vlives he always whispers to other members aND I JUST WANT HIM TO SPEAK UP! JEON WONU TELL US WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY but in conclusion I am in love with him and would def recommend anyone to bias him bc honestly he is a good bias just bc he is chill and pure and funny and beautiful (even tho sometimes he’s MIA and quiet as heck pshhh)Lee Jihoon aka Woozi - vocal team leader and producer of p much all their lit ass tunes!! 10/10 MOST HARDWORKING MEMBER OUT OF SVT I’M SORRY IF YOU DISAGREE BUT JIHOON WORKS SO HARD ALL THE TIME I’M SO WORRIED FOR HIM HE NEEDS A BREAK!! It’s so heartbreaking tho if you ever want to cry and cough up your lungs bc of sobs then watch SVT Project where he talks abt how he feels so much pressure and feels like their success or failure is riding on him bc he writes all their music and will determine if they will be any good:(((( BUT OBVIOUSLY THEY ARE A BIG HIT BC JIHOONIE IS SUPER TALENTED AND MAKES THE BEST UPBEAT FUNKY FRESH POP TUNES OF THE CENTURY~ he is one of (if not the) shortest male idols at the moment at a staggering 165cm/5'4"! But it’s so great bc he doesn’t try to hide his heigh and he is considered and “inspiration to short men” according to one fashion report. The members always say he is rlly manly but on camera he acts cute and 10/10 appreciate it bc he is the cutest ever but only subtly… like he embarrassingly/shyly covers his face so cutely and gets angry so adorably where he just glares aw (he has also confirmed that he considers himself to be more cute than scary) woozi is a abbreviation of “our jihoon” which is the cutest asjkdhskl. He is also seventeen’s grandpa bc he is rlly not too hip at all but they try to help him out anyway! He also winks 24/7 lol. His voice is rlly clear and piercing like he often sings parts of the chorus and his voice draws you in idk it’s nice:) he trained for the second longest amount after scoops (5 years) so they’re super close bc they were together longer than the other membersLee Seokmin aka Dokyeom/DK - an actual ray of sunshine w the most incredible vocals like wow! He is svt’s “happy virus” and boy does he own it!! He is always smiling and laughing and making jokes he is the cutest I stg… He also has a more built figure physically and it’s hot as heck tbh. He, seungkwannie and soonyoung make up the “booseoksoon” trio which is basically the extra/mc/always laughing squad and they are such close friends it’s the cutest ever boo and hosh think he’s the funniest person in the world I love it!! Seokmin also puts a lot of pressure on himself bc he’s main vocal and I feel like he’s super underrated???? But he went on King of Masked Singer and I think he made it through two or three rounds? Anyway he did rlly rlly good (even tho honestly think he has way more potential than what he showed) and I hope it boosted his confidence bc he is incredible!! The judges assumed he was from an older group bc his voice was so mature eeeee!! HE IS SO LOUD OH MY GOD one time they said that the CEO could hear him practicing from the 4th floor while he was in the basement I- He is always the first person to make fun of himself and he doesn’t mind being the brunt of a joke as long as he gets people to laugh it’s adorable:)) He always brings up the mood and helps out the members whenever there is awkwardness w being filmed and such JUST SUPPORT THIS SUNNY BOY HE HAS SO MUCH LOVE AND JOY IN HIS HEART!!Kim Mingyu - the tallest bean on the block and svt’s “visual tree” at a staggering 190cm/6'1" (correct me if I’m wrong I didn’t look this up) but I’m p sure he has grown recently bc he is getting taller everyday I swear? He’s got some good rap mhmm~ But he is such a clumsy pup and the members always make fun of him but it’s okay bc he can take it (he has the best reaction so that’s why they do it) He is dropping things and tripping 25/8 and it’s the cutest thing! But “housewife ming” can legit do anything like he is a true man of many talents damn i.e. cooking, hairstyling, acting, cleaning… But he is so so pretty like who the heck allowed him to be this attractive?? Gyu goes from super visual savior to fluffy pup on the daily and it’s too much to handle… Idk he seems like he might be super cool and chic when you first see him but he is actually just a giggly fool always having a hard time… Mingyu is the only one in svt that I would call the “visual” (only bc he is officially the visual i think they are literally gorgeous okay!!) but he is actually rlly insecure abt it and only calls himself “aspiring visual” and it’s mostly bc of his dark complexion WHICH IS COMPLETELY FLAWLESS AND SO BEAUTIFUL STOP WHITEWASHING KIM MINGYU PLZ but i rlly commend him for being visual despite common opinions/standards on skin color in korea. A lot of people (okay most people) ship him and wonwoo (aka meanie) and I do too, don’t get me wrong, but my all time favorite ship is mingyu and minghao (aka gyuhao) bc same age, they act like they hate each other but are actually super supportive (one of my fave tropes blah) and idk they’re both just confused pups help me and w that transition…

Xu Minghao/Seo Myungho(kor) aka The8 (i never call him the8 ever srry b i don’t like it idk ah) - our “cool cutie” from northeast(i think) China with the most killer bboying skills i’ve ever seen in kpop! He now introduces himself as “The8 with infinite possibilities” and he has been growing more and more as an artist and a person I’m so proud of him!! He trained for the shortest amount of time (~1year+2months i believe) and he really struggled w Korean when he first started. Even after debut he was very quiet but he has been talking more and more lately and he has been doing so well!! Minghao is cute as heck but he is also (along w hannie) svt’s Resident Savage™ and the main usage of his Korean improvement has gone into calling out the other members w his incredible comebacks. Two of his favorite targets seem to be soonyoung and mingyu but he rlly doesn’t hold back on anyone (except maybe jun bc they are such good buddies bc china line and jun helps him w his korean asjkklfjls) But anyway he is an incredible dancer and singer and also rapper!! (give him more lines plz plz plz) vernon has been helping him w his korean rapping but he is already one lit mandarin rapper like damn… But minghao is the most supportive member of svt (hear me out) whenever they do broadcasts or radio shows minghao always gives thumbs ups/supportive smiles/high fives it is the purest thing and part of the reason I love him sm!!! He’s also super cuddly and is always touching/hugging the other members asjkltfasd. Sometimes he doesn’t quite understand a question and the other members help explain it to him it’s my favorite concept (it’s usually soonyoung or seungcheol but i’ve seen p much all of them do it) lately he has been getting more meme-y and idk how to feel but as long as he’s getting out of his comfort zone I am immensely proud of him:))

Boo Seungkwan (boo) - the other main vocal in svt and just generally the loudest and usually mc for the group. Boo has some of the most incredible vocals i’ve seen in my life and he sings probably my favorite cover duet of all time (the high note around 3:05 makes me emotional every time istg also their reactions are me) He’s so talented and his voice is so clear and nice and his RANGE! I could go on forever… To describe seungkwan in two words would be sweet and sassy… He is part of maknae/baby line but he’s always calling people out and bossing them around it’s hilarious. (he is generally hilarious tbh) Also he’s a huge volleyball program nerd it’s great (and possibly haikyuu!! but not confirmed) He’s commonly referred to as divaboo and the video just seungkwan things captures all his divaness perfectly 10/10 would rec! He’s also super english-y all the time probably bc he spends so much time w vernon which is great for us international fans whoop whoop. But back to him being sweet- even though he is definitely his own biggest fan (in the most adorable way omg) he is also svt’s biggest fan he always cheers on his members it’s so cute he’s so soft and good! He cares so much for the fans and he’s head of the Seventeen Fan Cafe (i think) and he’s great abt interacting w carats and all that fanservicey stuff:) He is also super underappreciated honestly support him bc he supports everyone else even tho he’s rlly insecure abt his looks and body even tho he is the most beautiful boo w THE BEST CHEEKBONES IN THE UNIVERSE HAVE YOU SEEN THOSE THINGS DAMN BOY

Hansol Vernon Chwe/Choi Hansol(kor) aka Vernon (bernonie) - One of the most well-known members of svt bc he’s half white and was also a child actor. He has some of the most lit raps tbh and i’m p sure every single one (or almost) has english in it lol. His mom is white and American and his dad is from Korea. Technically he was born in New York, USA BUT BUT BUT he moved to korea when he was five so he doesn’t remember it like at all and every host ever asks him abt it and he always has to say he is basically korean and JUST LET HIM LIVE but since his mom speaks english he is fluent in it (but he has said he is better at korean) He is super super visual and he gets more attractive every day like who the heckkk. Hansol is one of the more popular members so a lot of people would expect him to be outgoing (or even douchey bc he’s half white which is dumb yet it happens) but he is one of the quietest members and usually doesn’t speak up in interviews and such bc he’s kinda shy! BUT THIS DOES NOT I REPEAT DOES NOT MEAN HE IS NOT A MEME!! VERNON IS CONFIRMED THE MEMEIST MEMBER OF SVT ALONG W JOSHUA DON’T FIGHT ME. At this point he has even been dubbed “memesol” bc he makes the best reaction faces in recorded history dear god. He also finds literally everything so hilarious and definitely laughs the most whenever the other members do anything. But honestly he is a super cute, sweet pup who deserves a whole lotta love!! also kinda unrelated but one of my favorite posts of all time is dedicated to him i don’t even know…

Lee Chan aka Dino (MY SON) - I DON’T EVEN KNOW WHERE TO START W THIS LIL BAB! Lee Chan is svt’s “small giant” maknae who is Michael Jackson’s #1 Fan™ and literal dancing machineeee! He has grown so much since debut i cannot believe and he is getting more confident MY BOY! Honestly his glow up should be some kinda world record bc oh my god it hasn’t even been two years?? AND HIS RAP HAS IMPROVED SO MUCH LIKE EVEN FROM JAM JAM TO OMG Vernon rapped most of jam jam but then in omg chan rapped all of it by himself!!!! ALSO EVEN FROM OMG TO HIGHLIGHT NOW HE TRANSITIONS FROM RAPPING STRAIGHT INTO SINGING WITH THE SAME BREATH I CANNOT BELIEVE!! But he is so creative and funny and full of energy!! He helps hoshi w most of the dances (i think he did most of the choreo for jam jam) and his stage name is dino bc when he steps on the stage he takes it over and becomes a big presence like a dinosaur which is so creative??? he also graduated high school a while back and then just too his entrance exams!! But he tries so hard to keep improving and he’s just so pure and has a complete heart of gold♥ He also aspires to be an mc and he works rlly hard to improve his skills on that front too! Brick Club 17, 1.1.1-1.1.5

ALL RIGHT LET'S GO

This entry is mostly pretty livebloggy/about the translation BUT there's a larger point in it I'm really curious about, so that goes above the cut:

In 1.1.3, when the Bishop is giving his examples of Virtues as Lived By People Just Like You So You Know You Don't Have To Suck, he mentions the village of Queyras, an apparently idyllic place where around three thousand people band together to pay for travelling teachers, and there's no need of lawyers because the town officials do all the legal wrangling for free and the people respect their chosen leaders.

So here's the thing: Myriel says that wonderful little Queyras is "like a little republic". ("Mon Dieu! C'est comme un petite republique." 1.1.3).

Now this chapter is well ahead of the chapter with the Conventionist, and Myriel is royalist. (Even after the talk with the Conventionist, he's a monarchist, really.) So why is he talking about a well-run place as a republic? Is Digne an exceptionally republican bishopric, where that would be what people listen to? (this is not at all impossible!) Is there some common Christian use of the term that would make this a natural positive description despite Myriel's personal dislike of the republic and the revolution? (I've heard "the republic of Heaven" used in some descriptions but only in American history studies, where it's obviously gonna be a less complicated term for the audience of the day than it would be in post-Rev France.) Anyone have any thoughts here?

Anyway! Much more scattered notes below:

-I think Donougher makes it more clear than usual that Myriel was a Scandal in his youth. Probably cheated on his (arranged) wife, like, a LOT-- "amorous intrigue" doesn't mean "wowie what a lot of marital sex", after all.

I LOVE this, because Myriel obviously isn't haunted by guilt-- he's very content and happy!-- and he doesn't try to split his identity into Past Myriel and New Myriel to account for his change of heart. Instead he's learned from his own experience and clearly incorporates it as part of his way to understand and compassionate others.

This is kind of a major point of the book--not just moving past mistakes, but learning from them and learning SYMPATHY from them to help others, because other people WILL be in similar situations because Humans Screw Up A Lot--and it's part of why Myriel gets to be a Big Good and I love it and I am really sorry that more adaptations don't find a way to reference this aspect of his story!

-gad knowing more about the NIII situations really makes all the sympathy for Myriel's emigre status hit a lot harder. The situation at home being maybe even "more terrifying" for emigres who don't hear news right away and can't interact with events and have to be passive...yeah, that's gotta be a particular Feeling for Hugo, there.

-I think Donougher's translation of the good man/great man thing loses the pun and the poetry that make it work. Hmm.

-Myriel knows "THE MUSCULAR LANGUAGE OF THE SOUTH". Okay! That sent me to look up the original, which is "l''énergique langue du midi"--which is not QUITE the same as The South in France, I think, but IS another Midi Relevance Point! I should be keeping a tally on those. >_>

- I don't really like the translation of Baptistine's intro? And I'm not sure how much is Hugo's fault and how much Donougher's. But I do think part of the problem here is sheer Era Dissonance-- Hugo's going on about Genderless Souls In Bodies is less jarring in the 19C-style parlance of the day, like Wilbour and thus FMA tend to rely on; it's not un-weird but it's weird in a way that sort of fits? in the more modern tone Donougher uses, lines like "hardly enough of a body to have any sexual identity" are...even weirder and more uncomfortable? Yeah.

-"we do not say the portrait that we have presented here is very likely; only that it is very like." OK now that's a nice translation of the phrase!

-Geez I really feel for Magloire and Baptistine--they're running a household of three on half of Bahorel's allowance, and of course the Bishop is the one who gets to allot that budget even though he's not the one who has to make it work. And I love Myriel! He's great! But Obvious Problem Is Obvious, here, though I think it wasn't to Hugo.

-"The Phantom of Social Justice Haunted Him" -- A Tumblr Story

1.1.4

I NEED THIS CHAPTER TO BE IN ADAPTATIONS. I NEED IT. The corruption and hypocrisy of the justice system, the horror of the death penalty, the callousness of other Church officials to the convicted--that first priest was going to just let the condemned man die without last rites, which WOW that's INCREDIBLY dehumanizing--and the fact that this is all seen and clearly dged by the Bishop, who has no personal gain in judging it unfair and wrong, is a big deal. So is the obvious effect it has on Myriel! An ex-exile has no reason to think the legal system is infallible, but it's obvious in these chapters that his priestly duties have allowed Myriel lots of chances to see where the legal system is inhumane and against his idea of how men should treat each other in God's name. Kind of relevant to his big plot-transfer moment later!

I also like seeing the Bishop...not despairing, but sort of rattled, here, *and* clearly turning to his faith as a way of finding understanding. Especially on the heels of the other priest's clearly unChristlike behavior, but also in light of things like the rich man buying "a sou's worth of paradise". There's a seriously complex examination of how people use faith-- to embrace the world, to hide from it, to understand it, to push the world away, as a way to justify their own behavior or a reason to interrogate it-- running through the book, of course, and it's one of my favorite things about the novel, and it starts right off, here. The brief glimpse of Effortlessly Saintly Myriel in the moment his story crosses Valjean's really doesn't do him, or that wonderful complexity of discussion, any justice.

1.1.5

Agh. It's unstated, but the Bishop's milk-and-bread routine is both a probable necessity of his budgeting, and a thing that's enforced on Baptistine and Magloire without their having a say. And if dining on milk and bread and a few boiled vegetables every day isn't starving, it's sure not *fun*. The Bishop doesn't care, but his sister just defers, and Magloire, just a servant, has no say at all.

I'm not sure how much of an issue this is meant to be HERE-- I think Magloire and Baptistine's sacrifices are really treated rather lightly. I've said elsewhere that Bossuet actually reminds me of Myriel quite a bit , and WHOO BOY he really does. The snark, the carelessness about personal financial straits, the whole deal with the overworn clothing, even the mention here that the Bishop "chats" to people (someone check the French for me to see if it's the same verb as the one used for Bossuet in Lieutenants?), which, even if it's just a translation choice, is definitely the right mood. (There's definitely ties to others of the Amis, of course-- all the Idealists of the novel have certain resonances-- but this is the one that really stands out to me.) But there's a major difference in the Life Partner issue. But agh, that's another thing to come back to later...
