Back in the day, a lot of styles that were coming out of skateboarding were smooth and surf-influenced with flowing waves of concrete skateparks. When the concrete was gone, things got ugly quick as gnarly makeshift backyard vert ramps started breeding a new type of  skateboarder who made the best of a seemingly dying skate culture. From the backyard underground skate scene in Texas, Craig Johnson emerged as one of the gnarliest on-edge skateboarders you could have witnessed annihilating all terrain he rolled on. His bionic, sketchy style was something you could never forget: pulling off tricks that no one should survive and having the most fun doing it. “It was a great day at the Manderson skatepark with the Jeffco high school students from Denver putting on the contest ! Hooked up the kids with tons of Vans shirts, hats, shades, wallets and the bandanas that every kid took and worked their styles! We cranked tunes for skaters who showed up from all over the rez and also came from Rapid City and Rosebud! We had a blast and the kids were stoked! Terrence Two Bulls ripped the bowl at the Manderson Skatepark and won the contest! Bowl transfer to the street course goin full speed! @montanapoolservice “The concept for the name, Montana Pool Service, was sort of an homage to IPS, Wally’s deal. It started off with stickers and stuff. Simultaneously, I was getting involved with getting skateparks built in Montana... It goes all the way back to helping get a park built in the Seattle Center 25 years ago when I took some of my philanthropic funds from Pearl Jam and we gave them $50,000. We used to give all of the money from our home shows to local organizations. That was the beginning of MPS... From the very beginning, punk rock and skateboarding, have been one and the same. When I moved to Seattle, at least half the kids I knew that played in bands skateboarded. Even going back to the guys I skated with in Montana, all those guys ended up playing in bands... If you really allow yourself to feel the music or to feel what’s it’s like to ride a wave or be in the ocean or on a skateboard and carve a ten-foot wall or pull a trick or whatever, it’s all that same amount of aliveness.
