Happy International Go Skateboarding Day!!!!! Skateboarding in Venice is built on tradition. It's a common ground and a sacred communication machine. This day, in true Venice custom, tribute was paid to OG Z-Boy, Jay Adams, (R.I.P) with an all out attack on the coping at the Venice Skatepark. Every generation of skateboarder was represented in the session and gave 100% in honor of J-Boy. Made in Venice is a documentary film that captures the first-hand stories and recollections of 40+ years of skateboarding in Venice, CA and what went into getting the iconic Venice Skatepark built. It’s a first-hand look into skateboarding history and skate activism – a must watch for skateboarders both young and old.

I didn’t know much about Jesse Martinez, so I had to hit up @meronek and @rtclem to see what they knew about this dude. Rob told me that he was called "Jess the Mess" and Ryan said he was pretty intimidating, a member of the Bones Brigade at one point, and had a really mean method air off a jump ramp. Jesse is considered a Venice legend and has been a huge influence on the skate scene there for decades.
