AO3 should have an anonymous comments feature!!!!!

I know you can go in as a guest to leave a comment, but that doesn't really work a lot of the time when so many works are archive locked and only accessible when you're signed in to ao3. It would be cool if at the menu where you can choose from your pseuds there was also the option of 'anonymous' like in the tumblr ask box, where it removes your user and makes it unclickable (it would only work for account holders). It would be an optional feature that creators could turn on for specific works 'allow anonymous comments'. @ao3org

I understand if people wouldn't want this (why it would be a completely optional feature) the potential for it to turn into something used for harassments is quite high. But I definitely feel like it could really boost engagement for some types of fics (spicy/dark/e.c.t...) where people are scared to comment or just don't want their account to be tied to. With more and more works being archive locked and guest comments being off by default, people can't log out and leave an anonymous comment like they used to. I have really felt the hit in engagement of not having guest access to my fics (fuck ai scraping) and I understand the wish not tie your username to something (I have used the 'anonymous' collection for my works before). If this would be a feasible thing, I just thing it would be a neat feature on ao3!

I'm fascinated by the idea of opening a listening and instrument bar or Air BnB. Come in, grab a beverage, and we have coffee tea or something stronger. Are you hungry? We have a full kitchen staff with a large menu. You come in and order and pick your music, and we will bring it to your table with the appropriate machine to play your music on from our library. Relax in one of our comfy leather chairs. What's that you need a warm blanket? We got you covered. Whatever you need for your mood, we have it. Want to spend a night in a private room with a mini bar and a whole library of media to yourself or with a friend or partner? Take one of our VIP suites. Do you want to feel what it's like to turn a vintage guitar up in a loud vintage guitar amplifier? Come rent one of our many new and vintage instruments. Downstairs, we have a full service recording studio with mix and mastering staff. You want to record that album of songs you wrote in high school but never had the chance? We got you covered. Friday nights are live music nights. You just vibe, and we will take care of everything else. That is like my dream to have a place like this. I would take the proceeds from this to sponsor and build a music school to teach anyone who wants to learn to play an instrument but can not afford it free of charge.

When I was a kid my family pretended to get raptured so I would think I was left behind on earth while they all went to heaven.

I was like 8 years old and my sister and mom had gotten really into the Left Behind novels (bible fan fic about the rapture). In the books when the rapture happened the clothes that people were wearing when they got raptured were left behind in neatly folded piles.

One day when I was getting home from school my family decided that they would leave piles of neatly folded clothes around the house, and then hide in the basement.

The intended effect was that I would get home and see the clothes then, think that my family had been raptured and that I wasn’t good enough to get into heaven… or something?

The problem was that I had never read these books, and didn’t really think about the rapture very often. There was no reason that I would see some laundry on the floor and think “The rapture happened and I’ve been abandoned by God! I’ll never see my family again!! Oh nooo!!!!”

I just sat down and watched cartoons and eventually my family got bored and revealed that they were all hiding in the basement.

It’s a good thing I didn’t understand the joke, otherwise that shit would have been traumatic.

People against piracy fail to realize that no, I can’t just ‘buy it.’ They stopped making DVDs and Blu-Rays. They’re barely offering digital copies for download. I am not spending money I could use for food or bills to pay for a subscription service just so I can always have access to a beloved piece of media. Especially not when the service will remove media on a whim without concern for how the loss of access to that piece will make its artistic conservation nigh impossible.

For example, I recently learned that Disney+ had an original film called Crater. It’s scifi, family friendly, and seems cool - I would love to buy it as a holiday gift for my little brother! But: it’s exclusive to D+ and THEY REMOVED IT LITERALLY MONTHS AFTER ITS RELEASE.

The ONLY way I can directly access this film is through piracy. The ONLY available ‘copies’ of this film are hosted on piracy websites. Disney will NEVER release it in theaters, or as something to buy, and it may NEVER return to the streaming service. It will be LOST because we aren’t allowed to purchase it for personal viewing. If I can’t pay to own it, I won’t pay for the privilege of losing it when corporate decides to put it in a vault.

So yes, I’m going to pirate and support piracy.
