some thoughts on Good Omens and male privilege

Crowley and Aziraphale (as well as all other celestial beings) are canonically genderless icons. However, through all of history they present masculine and I think the reason for that is pretty obvious. It‘s not like their personalities simply align with masculine traits and that‘s why they choose it most of the time. They both love traditionally feminine (meeting up for fancy wine dinners to talk about life and gossip about their bosses) and masculine (cars) things. And Crowley in season 2 explicitly does not identify as a "lad". Also, the definitions of masculinity throughout history are neither logical nor consistent and they more than anyone would be aware of how made up gender roles really are. I also don‘t think that Above or Below are patriarchally structured especially in the show. They are supposed to be completely indifferent towards gender so why do they always choose to present as men?

I think it‘s because they are both lazy when doing their jobs and choose the path of least resistance. Think about the Arrangement, for example. If there‘s a way to make their job easier, they‘ll do it. Being a woman is and always was limiting in some way. Especially when trying to influence humans (men) into doing either good or evil, being perceived as a woman makes things harder. And as observers of human cultures they‘re very aware of that and they probably, over the years, got very comfortable with their male and white privilege and use that to make their lives easier. Aziraphale also imo got attached to his appearance at some point and doesn‘t want to change anything about it.

The only time Crowley appears as a woman, it‘s as Nanny Ashtoreth. Here, again, she benefits from traditional gender roles (woman=trusted to care for children) to reach an end goal. So, I think overall they just present as the gender that‘s most convenient at the time which is usually male.

Writing a fic where Red Hood is interviewed and in one of his answers I have him state he’s proud of who he is now as Red Hood (timeline-wise we’re at the point where he’s starting to make noise and gain power as crime-lord Red Hood). So now I’m overthinking this statement.

Because, is he proud of himself?

Genuinely not sure. On one hand I think to an extent he'd be proud of all he's accomplished after coming back to life. For training and becoming powerful on so many levels (physically, combat-wise, mystical training yada yada) and for making a name of himself in Gotham independently of the Bats. For flipping off B and his crew and their morals.

But he is also a deeply insecure person. His biggest (maybe?) grievance/trauma is that he’s never felt unconditionally loved and accepted. Not before Bruce and not after him. But even if we just focus on his time with B, he feels he never had his sincere acceptance. And this acceptance he craves and didn’t/doesn't get includes love, respect, being important enough to B for B. to break his moral code and avenge him…

I cannot decide if a person who came back to life to realize his "father" never truly cared (not the way a father should care anyway), a person that even before Bruce never experienced unconditional love from any parental figure, that only knew survival and abuse, could really be proud of himself? I'm really on the fence on this one. Maybe he thinks he's proud of himself? Maybe he truly is? Maybe he isn't at all but won't admit it? What d'yall think?

Cryptid Lilia and Prince Silver au

Concept: Lilia is a cryptid creature that adopted(?) Silver, and they live in a isolated cottage that is located in the woods.

Backstory: Lilia had a child of his own, and they lived in the forest that bordered a nearby kingdom. One day, his child accidentally wandered a bit too far from the woods and stumbled into the castle’s garden. The child was attacked by the castle guards after it was spotted. Unfortunately, during the scuffle, the little prince entered the garden and was injured by the dying cryptid and fell ill.

Later, Lilia goes searching for his child after they didn’t return home. He breaks into the castle and goes looking around the castle. He then stumbles into the room where the sick prince is. Lilia mistakes the child as his own and whisks the prince away from the castle (or perhaps Lilia knew his child was dead and wanted to take revenge by kidnapping the prince. It’s up to you). Note: The only reason why Lilia would mistake Silver as his child is because they bleed all over him when they were killed, making him smell like his child. Silver loses his memory due to the fever(or Lilia erased his memories again that up to you~)

Massive Question for the kotlc fans

What is the Neverseen’s goal? Like their evil, and they have yet the council, but so far the only thing that separates them from the Black Swan is their extremism.

Like am I stupid or is their goal never really explored? Like do they just want to overthrow the council? If so they haven’t even really made much effort to do that. Like what’s their deal?
