Recently discovered your art and amaranthine setting! Really love the characters hyden and theo! And the shadow... that's some gnarly stuff! Which begs the question, would there be anyone unfettered (and perhaps foolish) enough to marvel at the shadow's potential as a weapon?
Not-so-coincidentally, I've also been revisiting a lot of Starcraft 2 content out of nostalgia since I used to play it when I was in high school. It reminded me of the idea... of someone seeing an incredibly dangerous all-consuming force, and them trying to harness it for their own ends (and things inevitably going horribly right and/or wrong)
Some say that's exactly what Hyden was doing. :)

MORE minecraft thoughts: lots of kinds of ferns as well as some cacti are edible. Also since you don't really get natural grass monocultures, AND bonemealing grass results in blooms of flowers, presumably in universe there's lots of various types of short groundcover that all just get called "grass' but some probably are useful some way or another.
very valuable info anon

The wonders of being in a worldbuilding server are so underappreciated. Where else are you gonna see someone go “Hey guys anyone wanna ask me questions about [insert original species here]”
And then when someone does ask a question about them, they respond with the most milquetoast ass bland 1 sentence answer (and then get pissy when nobody else asks them questions)

Thoughts on the weapons variety in hallownest?
Disclaimer: not much of a weapons person lol. I did some quick reads on some weapons and their pros and cons and that's about it.
I guess a few things stand out to me in general: 1. in terms of proportions, nails are really big and it's honestly kind of terrifying. I know that bugs can in theory hold proportionately more than humans but that it still depends on factors like the materials the things are made of, but still, just looking at the Nailmasters, Nailsage or even the Grey Mourner makes me afraid of their strength. 2. lots of people just using their bodies. Technically does not count as a weapon but good for them 3. Not a lot of projectiles or far range weapons.
For the most part I can't tell that many details, honestly. I would assume that the flat parts of a nail are probably a way to provide for a way to redistribute tension while parrying, which would probably be most helpful in the cases of heavier nails.
I think I remember someone else stating that it was likely that bugs would use weapons that are best suited for piercing rather than slashing, considering it's more likely to hurt them by targeting their joints and I think that idea makes a lot of sense. After all, that's probably what Hornet's needle, and the lances used by sentries intend to do. Hive Knight also uses a pretty thin and pointy weapon... it kind of reminds me of fencing swords? Though I've never looked at one of those up close. And still, the way Hive Knight uses it looks more like an attempt to slash than pierce so my guess is probably really really wrong.
I'm sure the fools at the Colossseum have more interesting looking weapons, actually since they pretty much dedicate to it. It does seem at least God Tamer's weapon is probably helpful in tearing shells on the surface and maybe using its shape to make it harder for it to get detached from the victim.
Besides this, the other big groups I found were clubs and body features which honestly doesn't exactly count. Cloth uses a club, and the other enemies that can be seen with one are the husk guards in Crossroads and Fog Canyon. I'm kind of surprised these aren't more common since from what I read they shouldn't take much training to use and can cause some nasty injures. Sure their bodies can probably handle slashing and all but cornering someone and hitting them with a club is probably not a bad way to kill but I'm not sure.
Oh and in the projectiles department we have.... pickaxes thrown by the tired working class, whatever those short fools are using, and the mantis disks. I uh, think the first two are very desperate measures and their trajectory is overall easy to follow and dodge. It's probably better to stun someone. Mantis disks seem a bit more effective as weapons since they seem to travel back to the owners, their spinning seed and edge makes it more likely to cut through surfaces and they are probably good enough to stun or wound others from a safe distance before dealing a more lethal blow.
And finally: shout out to the Devouts for doing their thing. I'm still intimidated by them. I like to think that mask is its own kind of dual weapon and defensive item and it's very cool

Arguing about fantasy halacha based on actual halacha is the same as trying to establish a headcanon that fits within the subject's worldbuilding setup.

Okay, now I have to ask - do female shadow-wolves exist? Or, in a pack, women can be only a witch or human? 🤔
Very good question, nonny!
Female wolves are very rare. The thing is, wolves can't have children together. Shadow wolf can only have a child with a human or a witch.
Witches are preferred, because their magic works as antipole of light to wolf shadow darkness. So even wolves with big shadows can have children that won't get devoured by their own shadows being too strong, if a strong witch is involved. With a human, the child might not survive.
Now imagine two wolves with two shadows. The baby doesn't have a chance. If they manage to conceive at all, their babies are either born dead or possessed.
Now a female wolf could have a child with a human or a witch, except female witches are the standard. Male witches are almost non-existened, even rarer than female wolves. They are a genetic anomaly.
So biologically speaking, wolf offsprings tend to be wolves, witches and humans, very very rarely female wolves, and as good as never male witches.

I know the anti/pro-god stuff is aggravating to constantly interact with, but I must admit... It must feel good to be Matt Mercer rn, having finally come up with a plot that people actually talk about (since the Briarwood arc) instead of just the characters XP

Salut ma bien-aimèe! I wanted to thank you again for the fic recs, and also let you know that your compliment of my frenglish has been living rent free in my head since you sent it and just thank you so much <3
But I did take your suggestion of sorting by word count, and found some drabbles that were translations, and I shouldn't be this surprised but the parallel reading between the English and French actually helped a lot! So I think I'm gonna go off the deep end and read Cambiare Podents >:)
In the meantime, I'm def gonna be getting ahold of the French editions of HP, but you mentioned having some regular book recs too? Whenever you have the time, I'd love to see those 👀👀 I don't want to use you as a free resource, but I really massively appreciate the time you've been putting into this for me and I super appreciate your patience with my very limited vocabulary!
That's all, have a lovely evening and sleep well!! Love you!!!
MON AMOUR!!!! You're welcome I loove talking about what I read especially to people who are interested. Honestly the frenglish took me out I had to comment on it like it's wild. I talked about you to my family (yeah I don't have classes to complain about at diner anymore and your message was sweet) and your word order wasn't usual when you said 'j'aimerais les bons mots utiliser' (you'd put the utiliser before that, j'aimerais utiliser les bons mots) but my dad thought it was charming and it sounded like Yoda. So. That's a compliment obviously. (talking more about my online friends so that when I have the money to take a plane to come see y'all my parents don't go 'who are you going to see??' also)
Hehe Cambiare Podentes was SO important to me honestly! I started with the french translation but there were only a few chapters translated and it stopped right as it was about to get more interesting, and since the chapters are all the size of a novella the translator was updating like once a month/every few months. I didn't want to wait thought so I said well surely I can read it in english! And now here I am. So I hope you have fun with it too!!!
You're not using me as a free ressource you're giving me enrichment!! I love love love talking way too much about things that interest me but usually people aren't on the same wavelength so they listen politely but they don't really care that much. Which is fine but it's so cool when you know your recs actually have a chance of being read! I'll find you a little list of books + try to get a clean epub/pdf because I just know a lot of the stuff I like isn't going to be available outside of France and I'd feel bad for giving you recs you can't get your hands on. There's also a few visual children's books I'm thinking of (like the Claude Ponti books) that I have at home that I could probably take pics of/scan if you want, once again because I have no idea of the availability outside of France and potentially neighbouring countries/Québec. You'll have to tell me if Cambiare Podentes is the right level or if you want some simpler stuff because I can also do children's books with smaller vocabularies and easier sentences, I just have to know haha.
Also if you want me to speak french at you/with you I have a lot of free time now so 👀👀 text/voice, whatever you want, I'm free a fair amount is all I'm saying.
Thank yoouu you too! I think you said you were going to a concert so I hope you had fun! (and I didn't know if I should say it in the replies but you looked really good in that pic you posted)

This is a lot siller than my other questions, but which ships, if any, are you doing for this AU? I kinda wanna know if I get to see some Lumity and Huntlow in this AU.
Also, Amity’s reaction to Luz-Hunter-Mari-Flapjack seems like it’ll be interesting. I refuse to believe that girl was brought up without ANY daemon prejudices.
(and I started listening to No Hell because of you. I can’t stop, help.)
this is so funny bc i um. dont have a lot to say on this dfkjgdfg ive never been the sort of person to super focus on ships.
the main two that show up are luz/amity and raine/eda! for lumity i had a lot of fun with it bc it develops a bit differently...some of the big milestones (getting together, first kiss) happen at different points in my au! and of course with mari and alma there we get to see some different dynamics....my favorite is the amity/mari dynamic i had a BLAST with that. in the human realm, after all, daemons arent all that involved in dating, arent they? but in the demon realm....
and then raine/eda is just SO fun bc. i mean the owl beast is there now too. and considers eda her life partner. (not necessarily in a romantic sense. firefly is a big owl and doesnt conceptualize romance the same way witches and humans do) and has Very Mixed Feelings On Raine, bc back when she and eda were like young adults eda was dating raine and firefly did not get a say in this! so them sort of coming back together is VERY fun. I JUST THINK THE BIG OWL GETS A SAY IN THE RELATIONSHIP OKAY. somehow eda is the most worried about this.
huntlow is um. gkjdfg as canon as it is in the show which is to say im never going to focus on it but you can for sure read them that way. i have nothing against huntlow but again im just not a huge shippy-type person when i write, and while im invested in the lumity and raeda dynamics and how my au changes them, i just. cannot say the same for huntlow lol.
funnily enough! the boiling isles doesnt have the exact same prejudices the human realm has! they instead have the coven system which is uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh lets just say. a time!
(YES. JOIN ME. ITS SUCH A GOOD SONGGGGGGG!)

Happy WBW!
Tell me more about those mutations in Crater City. How are they contracted, how do they impact people, etc. However much you feel like sharing!
Hello, thanks for the ask!
Oh, the Mutations. As scary as it sounds, I take some inspiration from real life and try to gain a Better understanding of the possible effects of radiation/toxic waste on an area for a certain amount of time.
Yes, Crater City was indeed created by the impact of a missle of sorts. Fired Accidentally, in fact (Now, can you see why Darcy believes that humanity is too dumb to control themselves?). In other news, Mars Lake was inspired by Lake Karachay, I believe.
With that in mind, there's a lot to consider about the Impact of radiation on such an area over such-and-such years: natural resources, plants, animals, humans.... Very much! And it does enrapture me, yes. I'm working on expanding my worldbuilding once I get the time. I work very backwards and side to side (not sure how Obvious or not that is).
One thing I can confirm for sure is that the mental states of Crater City's citizens is not at Tip-top Performance, except for Darcy and Frasier, really. (Darcy has a Resistance to many of radiation's effects, while Frasier remained indoors for much of his life.)
Most of the Effects of radiation citizens will experience firsthand include the fanatics who spread the word of the magical Mars Lake (which will get their own side plot, yes), quirky 2-headed possums, and plants that disintegrate into black dust when you touch them. Oh, and Invincible black mold. Blair has a bad case of that in his apartment, which he needs to evacuate soon, or else he'll get sick!

is twitter trans too or is she tumblr’s token cis girlfriend
I honestly don't have much written for twitter because surprisingly she's not one of the main characters in this weird little story I've created. A lot of people have told me twitblr gives them T4T energy and i do kind of see that, but Twitter makes more sense to me as a token cis girl. That part I'm willing to leave up to people's interpretation as long as people don't go out of their way to misgender her.
If you're curious, the other main characters in this weird little (AU? it is an AU if the characters I'm using are literal websites?) are Ao3, who is nonbinary-femme and with with whom Tumblr is roommates, and Youtube, who is also a trans woman.

Blame Grant Morrison
They are responsible!
That lex luthor looking Motherfucker is to blame!
Yeah my point still stands that those X make everyone's shoulder look too broud and plus it there's a big giant X on where to aim at
Plus! There was no reason to change the X-uniforms in Dark Phoenix. They are there, already fabricated and ready to use perhaps tweak them a bit, to make them feel lived in for a decade. Plus it would save money! But then again, CGI and special effects can't change a shitty ass script no matter how much spectacle is in.
For all its problems, this wasn't one of them and boy does Apocalypse have a shit ton of things wrong with it storywise; but it doesn't compare to Dark Phoenix.
