Leeweek 2024
youtube
Day 7 - An Amazing Video Tribute:
To wrap up another wonderful Leeweek, here's a personal favourite of mine. It's an animated Lego video for Christopher Lee's heavy metal cover of the Sinatra classic, My Way. (I can no longer listen to any version of the song without having the urge to then put on his rendition.) It's a fitting farewell.

Starburst!!! I love him so much and wanted to give him a proper fit, still workshopping it but I like it!! i was really inspired by the ribbons that Ne Zha has and how they’re animated in Lego Monkie kid. (flying bark studios has some amazing animation)
I like the ribbons a lot and they are just the thing I needed to give this guy a proper fit :DD
Tumblr media
Here’s who I meant, so you don’t have to search for the reference. I’m in love with how they animated him specifically, so well done and the movement is so smooth.

Quotes
Ivo Gerscovich, Sonic chief brand officer at SEGA of America:
"At Sega, we strive to create memorable experiences with our licensing partners that fans will cherish for years to come. The Lego Group is the leader in play, and the perfect partner to bring exciting stories, iconic characters and environments from the Sonic universe to life in fans’ living rooms globally. Through our creative collaboration with the Lego Group, Sonic fans of all generations can use their imaginations to play out their favourite Sonic moments, and we can’t wait to see their awesome creations."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Frédéric Roland Andre, LEGO Group designer:
"It really isn’t like anything else: the sets offer an entirely new, action-packed play experience. I’m especially proud of the Speed Sphere, as it was quite a challenge to figure out how we would get Sonic to speed up and interact with each course. Sonic is known for his speed and how he runs and jumps through courses, so for Lego sets inspired by him there was no way we could create a static set, we simply had to be creative and make them as action-packed as possible."
The sets are scheduled to hit retail and digital storefronts on 1 August 2023.

The Season of the Spirit
Sorry I got the cockles of my heart warmed straight through yesterday.
Saint Nicholas does of course hit people in all the sentimentals: it's about giving to children, specifically, not adults, and about selfless giving. It's direct giving - physical toys, no vague monetary donations that could line other people's pockets. No greedy board member is going to hoard glitter gel pens, or cuddly toys. It's also about family time together. And it's somehow a symbol for "Dutchness" (it's not but it's perceived to be), so right wingers don't object. It's also so pagan that in practice it's pan religious and atheist.
People have therefore, zero reason not to want to reach out and then, goodness, they can come together so hard.
A mother, a few years ago, started a St. Nicholas themed toy donation drive. Because St.Nicholas loves all children, whether or not their parents can afford to buy them toys. Children should be visited by St. Nicholas. Even children who don't believe in St Nicholas should be visited by St. Nicholas. There's even a line in the most famous St. Nick song
Oh, sweet Saint Nicholas, will you come to me, too?
Please don't quietly pass by my home...
And with growing poverty, Saint Nicholas was quietly passing by homes and it was not to be borne.
The Hague regional radio picked up on it. A year later Leiden picked up on it. There was a donation point for gifts in the The Hague public library, ages 0-18. They hoped for 20,000 presents, that would be grouped in to packages by age, and distributed around the greater The Hague region on the eve of Dec 5. From a bonafide Santa's Workshop, the way it is always portrayed in stories about Nicholas and his helpers. They flat out created a real life Santa's workshop with people packing gifts and sending them to children.
They had hoped for 20,000 gifts.
Around 18,000, a bank donated €1000 to be spent on gifts. People rushed in on the last day with donations. And I mean carrying dolls and cars and sweets and puzzles and plush animals and perfume and make up and electronics and books and craft sets and legos.
They totalled 47,000 + gifts.
This year - this went far beyond The Hague. Extra donation points were set up. 3 more radio stations in neughbouring towns and regions. There was a donation tram for people who couldn't make it to a donation point. A grandmother crocheted 200 fairy tale figures. Ikea set up donation points and promised to match every gift with 2 others (given their margins, I'm sure they made money on that even then, but since all the gifts were bought at retail price anyway, Ikea was as good a place to buy as any.)
The bank donated another €1,000
They'd already set a goal of 50,000 gifts this year.
They totalled more than 88,000. That's the people of one big and one medium sized city. Because children deserve a visit from St. Nick.
This, too, is humanity.

Hey 4Townies, aside from posting regular 4*TOWN content, I thought it would be cool if I just showed you guys what I did during my second year at college.
As you can already see, I had to create a poster to advertise Lego on Photoshop as an introduction to Art And Design, we went different workshops as well as going on a trip to LegoLand to explore the brand further to then creating my final poster which depicts a human with Lego bricks coming out of his head with a minifigure also running outside of it, the slogan was “Open Your Mind” since I believed the context is meant to convey imagination and creativity for all ages when it comes to Lego.
Sorry if this was a little bit wordy but I did have a lot of fun making this poster on my course so far, I’m most importantly looking forward to animation which will be after my next project about Architecture and 3D Design!
There’s more to come soon, and the album is still processing well! Best of luck, 4Townies!!!!!

What Lego Sonic Sets Could We See in the Future?
Out of the dozens of ideas I had for my comeback article, Lego certainly wasn’t one of them, yet here we are, because we’re finally getting 5 official Lego Sonic sets in less than three weeks (August 2023) and all I’ve been thinking about are which ones I should buy. So to take a break from that, what about thinking about what sets we could and should be able to buy in the future?
I feel like more Sonic “Speed Sphere” sets are inevitable, it is a great gimmick for kids to play with. With Chemical Plant Zone and Studiopolis Zone already being in other Sonic toy sets, I feel like Speed Sphere sets based on these zones are highly likely. City Escape could be another great choice with the steep slopes and getting to build small buildings. But I’m more interested in sets of locations in the series, so let’s move on.
I think an absolute must for the next set is an Angel Island set with a Knuckles minifigure. This would have to be a smaller version of the island, such as version we saw in Sonic Adventure, but the island itself with the Master Emerald, its shrine, and the Knuckles figure to guard it would be cool, maybe one or two palm trees for it and a sand-colored trim would look nice but they’re not necessary. Clear poles to hold up Angel Island since it floats would be great for shelf-display purposes.
I’d say a set with Shadow and Rouge minifigures with an Omega brick-build character is another necessary one akin to the Angel Island set, but this trio of anti-heroes doesn’t really have a base or an iconic setting piece. However, since sets from the first wave included jet skis and hoverboards, Shadow’s motorcycle could be included. If SEGA or Lego don’t have a location in mind either, sell this set as it is with a lower price tag such as $25. It would be a mistake not to include these minifigures in the line-up in some way or form.
If we ever get more Eggman sets, additional minifigures that should be included are Metal Sonic and Orbot to go with the Cubot one that’s coming out in the first wave.
I feel like the Chao Garden from Sonic Adventure 2 would be an excellent choice. Despite being a small sandbox, it is extremely iconic and so many people would love this on their shelves. The first Lego Sonic set wave included play pieces for Amy Rose to take care of animal critters, so why not have a Chao set with similar themes? That would make this a great set for kids and adults alike. I’m not sure what minifigure should be included with this set, however. Cream is a possible suggestion, plus she’s not from Sonic Adventure 2, but I already have a set in mind for her. Despite it not being a logical fit, perhaps Silver could be in this set because there isn’t a otherwise reasonable set for him to be a part of and he does have a tenderhearted nature.
A set with Cream and Vanilla’s house could be cool, with Cream and Blaze minifigures (unfortunately Vanilla may not sell well) and brick-build version of Gemerl as an additional character. While this place exists in Sonic Rush we never get to see it there, however the IDW Comics are considered canon to the videogame lore and Cream’s house is a frequent place to visit. Sonic and his friends seem to stop by there often, and Blaze usually makes sure to visit Cream when she comes from her own dimension. It is also worth mentioning Blaze should be in this set since she’d likely not have a set of her own. Cream’s two chao, Cheese and Chocola, should be included also.
Continuing with even less likely possibilities, a Chaotix Detectives set would be nice. Similar to the Team Dark set with Shadow/Rouge/Omega, it could just be a smaller set for the sake of adding minifigures of the characters, but they did run their detective agency in their house in both the IDW Comics and Sonic X, and it’s not out of the question to include their home as a building similar to Tails’s workshop in the set. Trinkets in the house could include Vector’s desk and a phone/fax machine, missing posters, and an assortment of Ninja gadgets for Espio.
Even less likely, though I don’t feel that this is impossible, is a set of the Resistance/Restoration bunker from Sonic Forces and the comics, with minifigures of the comic characters that make up the new Diamond Cutters (Whisper, Tangle, Lanolin). The biggest problem with this is that not everyone reads comics. Whisper and Tangle already appeared as playable characters in Sonic Dash though, with Tangle being acknowledged as a canon character in Sonic Frontiers. Whisper and Tangle even had plush toys made by GE for their popularity. I believe the possibility/probability of this set strictly hinges on if the Diamond Cutters ever make it into one of the next games, as there isn’t enough widespread knowledge of these characters to a casual audience to justify a set like this as of now.
Honestly, even the Cream’s house set and the Chaotix Detective Agency set would hinge on similar factors. But I do believe it is possible that Lego would be willing to take such risks because of how many characters they’ve included in their Super Mario branded sets. If Lego was willing to go into obscure territory with various enemies and The Koopalings, they may be willing to do the same for Sonic if sales prove it to be worth the risk.
So while it’s a cheesy way to end the article, the best thing you can do to make any of these sets a reality is buying one or more of the new ones releasing August 1st, 2023. What sets would you love to see appear for the next waves of Lego Sonic? Please share your thoughts in the comments, because I genuinely love talking with the Sonic community.

While “Big Hero 6” is a Marvel property, it’s very surprising how “Big Hero 6” was never featured in “Lego Marvel Avengers” and “Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2”. So with that said, I feel like Traveller’s Tales should develop a spin-off for the “Lego Marvel Superheroes” games, two to be exact, but for now, let’s focus on just one.
With “Lego Marvel Big Hero 6”, they should tell an original story taking place after either “Big Hero 6: The Series” or the Disney+ show, “Baymax!”. Either way, you would play through the whole story as Hiro, Baymax, Gogo, Honey Lemon, Wasabi, and Fred. There can also be a level based on the 2014 MCU-animated movie if you wanted. And just like with “Lego The Incredibles”, there can be Pixar and Marvel builds that could unlock new characters and red bricks.
This also includes characters who were cut from “Lego The Incredibles” for unknown reasons like Chicken Little (“Chicken Little”), Wilbur Robinson (“Meet the Robinsons”), Bolt (“Bolt”), Wreck-it Ralph (“Wreck-it Ralph”), Dusty Crophopper (“Planes”), and Judy Hopps (“Zootopia”). Additional Pixar builds that would feature characters from “Onward” to whatever the latest Pixar movie would be if this were made. The only characters who will not be used are Valiant (“Valiant”), Sampson (“The Wild”), Yankee Irving (“Everyone’s Hero”), and Mambo (“Happily N’Ever After”), due to how terribly their movies have been received, and for how useless they’d be if they were in this game.
In terms of Marvel builds, I would use Spider-Man, Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Wolverine, Mr. Fantastic, Doctor Strange, and Star-Lord in their MCU designs, with Deadpool as he was presented in “Lego Marvel Super Heroes”. And like all Lego Marvel games, the late great Stan Lee will once again be a citizen in peril (only, he’s Fred’s dad, Mr. Fredrickson this time, but his archive recordings will still be used). By rescuing him in levels and in the San Fransokyo hub world, you’ll be able to unlock Stan Lee as a playable characters. Like past Lego games, Stan Lee can web-swing, he has spider-sense, he has heat vision, he has health regeneration, he has super-speed, he can transform into Hulk Stan, and he can use his Marvel shield to activate shield switches. For “Lego Marvel Big Hero 6”, he can turn into Boss Awesome, just like how in “Lego Marvel Avengers”, Stan can turn into Iron Stan and Stanbuster.
In levels, there can be character tokens you can unlock in Free Play mode (or Story Mode, depending on which characters can do certain objectives). Returning from “Lego The Incredibles” are Woody (“Toy Story”), Flik (“A Bug’s Life”), Sulley (“Monsters Inc.”), Dory (“Finding Nemo”), Mr. Incredible (“The Incredibles”), Lightning McQueen (“Cars”), Linguini (“Ratatouille”), WALL-E (“WALL-E”), Russell (“Up”), Merida (“Brave”), Bing-Bong (“Inside Out”), Spot (“The Good Dinosaur”), and Miguel (“Coco”).
In terms of the character creator, I would want it to be more like “Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2” as opposed to how “Lego The Incredibles” depicted the character creator. The character creator can be used for either Hiro’s workshop, or his lab room at the San Fransokyo Institute of Technology, depending on what works better.
I can’t think of anything else, but surely you’ll get the idea of where I’m going with this.

I like intrinsically want all the new Sonic lego sets, right. But fuckin. Money is a thing. And physical space is a thing since my room’s quite small and has a lot of stuff in it. So I very much need to dial back and get something specific if I want anything at all. Which then raises the hell that I don’t actually like most of the sets all that much? The fact that they’re all mostly just disconnected chunks of stuff isn’t really my style, and then like 3 of them are designed for that speed sphere thing I have a negative amount of interest in. Like really any singular set here isn’t really that appealing, especially for the price points.
But then if I am gonna try narrow it down anyway, because I still fundamentally like the idea of Sonic Lego sets, what set am I going for?
Tumblr media
Green Hill Zone Loop Challenge is off the table - it’s the most expensive and the only things I’d really care for from it are the Eggman mech plus his and Amy’s minifigures. Those minifigures are available in other sets anyway, and everything aside from that is either sorta cool but not £100 cool, or just not something I really care about.
Tumblr media
Speed Sphere Challenge exists in this weird zone of seeming appealing for being by far the cheapest, but then the DJ kit and Chaos Soda fridge are like the only parts I think are actually quite cool. The rest is fairly eh.
Tumblr media
Death Egg Robot seems okay? I like the actual Death Egg Robot itself which looks like the main part of the build, plus it’s the other avenue for an Eggman minifigure and even comes with a tiny Cubot which is cool, but again there’s so much disparate junk and the speed sphere thing and it’s still one of the more expensive sets so like, idk man.
Tumblr media
Tails’ Workshop is I think one of the more appealing ones to me, because it’s on the cheaper side, I get a Tails minifigure, and by far the coolest part to me is getting the Tornado. I actually like, want the Tornado standalone more than any other thing in any of these waves. The Tornado is sick. I can’t actually stress enough how much I love the Tornado and how cool the Lego Tornado looks. But then, ah, I just don’t really care about the rest of the set, yet it’s so much of the price? The Buzz Bomber looks rough and then Tails’ actual workshop is so small and separate from everything that it’d just feel like a paperweight. I’d still maybe consider this one because of the Tornado but like, argh, you know?
Tumblr media
I think Animal Rescue Island is definitely the most appealing set overall to me. Compared to the other ones being a bunch of scattered pieces that feel very eh over all, this is actually just a whole complete island thing. And a fairly neat looking one at that! It also gets me a Tails and Amy minifigure and considering I already have a Sonic minifigure from the initial Green Hill Ideas set, I’d feel yk pretty good about the minifigures I’d have, although not having an Eggman minifigure is depressing but that’s like money still, you know how it is. This set’s also still in a relatively comfortable price range. Doesn’t really have any drawbacks and it’s a pretty cool set, I think it’s just that it’s not literally the most appealing possible set they could’ve come up with.
So I mean yeah idk I’ll. Probably buy Animal Rescue Island if any and see if I can’t work some other magic to get a standalone Eggman minifigure and even aim for getting the Tornado alone without Tails’ workshop. Or I’ll splurge and buy Animal Rescue Island and the Workshop? Maybe I’ll also pussy out and buy Speed Sphere challenge since it’s the cheap one. Idk. I shouldn’t be that surprised that these new sets are more kids and play focused than the Green Hill Ideas set - so compared to like nice displays there’s a lot more “you make your own fun” type things. Not gonna criticise that whatsoever, like duh obviously do that - but at the same time it does make it less appealing to me specifically and that’s why I will pass up on like most of these sets. I mean I don’t know how well I communicated this but I definitely feel like at least getting a minifig of every character is important to me. With Sonic I like the characters more than the locations and specific pieces of iconography so, minifigs are good for that. But then I still want cool iconography and junk so that’s the appeal of the Tornado. Perhaps if these sets do well we’d get more waves as it were, and suddenly I can just buy Lego Sonic sets that feel the most cool to me instead of worrying about whether or not I want to collect everything. Idk. We’ll see. If I do end up buying one of them I’ll post about it anyway soooooooo

This list also includes updates for digital only games, such as the Nintendo Badge Arcade, a game that will both be unobtainable and unplayable (legally) after March. (I may update this list to reflect these games later, but don’t count on it). This also includes updates for games like Animal Crossing
The listed requirements were generally taken from the eshop, (although I did have to take a couple of entries from the Data Management section of my 3DS). This is relevant because the listed requirements on the eshop are generally 1 to 3 blocks higher than their actual size. For example, according to the eshop the Shovel Knight update requires 1378 blocks of storage, but according to the Data Management section of System Settings it only takes up 1376 blocks.
If you are reading this before March 27th and are looking for other eshop exclusives to obtain, this video has some good recommendations: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vXWz3cSGFe8 . There’s plenty of freeware, but you can also add money to your 3DS account by linking it to a My Nintendo Account and using the shop menu in your Account Settings. You can also add funds via your Switch account (if it’s linked to My Nintendo) or by searching games on Nintendo’s website and buying them there.

Wait, I’m pretty sure that’s Master Builder Alec! He’s a Master Model Builder for Legoland Discovery Centers, so basically he maintains and makes those big lego models you see at official Lego places, as well as working at the discovery center, interacting with kids.
He has a YouTube channel where he talks about his experiences on the job and just various lego stuff, but there’s some lore to this Groundhog, actually!
Lego flies him out to help with other Discovery Centers and it’s a running joke that he steals an animal every time to display in his workshop in his main Discover Center.
So that’s not only a life sized Lego groundhog, but a SMUGGLED life size Lego groundhog.

How can teachers access affordable STEAM education resources?
Tumblr media
In today’s rapidly evolving world, the need for innovative educational approaches has never been more important. As schools, educators, and parents continue to emphasize the importance of preparing students for the future, hands-on learning in the realm of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) has emerged as a crucial method. It allows students to engage actively, experiment, and apply their knowledge in real-world contexts. However, selecting the right STEAM education resources to foster this type of learning can be a challenge. So, what are the most effective STEAM education resources for hands-on learning?
1. STEAM Kits and Project-Based Learning Tools
Hands-on kits designed for STEAM education resources can be invaluable for both students and teachers. These kits often include all the necessary materials and instructions to help students explore complex concepts in a tangible way. For example, robotics kits, such as those offered by LEGO Mindstorms or VEX Robotics, allow students to build and program robots, helping them understand coding, engineering, and problem-solving.
Other popular kits include:
LittleBits: These electronic building blocks make it easy to create circuits, gadgets, and interactive projects.
Snap Circuits: A fun way to explore electronics through snap-together parts that help students create simple electrical circuits.
Makey Makey: A kit that turns everyday objects into touchpads, allowing students to experiment with circuits and interactive projects.
These kits are designed to offer experiential learning, making them an effective way for students to understand abstract concepts in a practical, memorable manner.
2. Online Platforms and Interactive Tools
Digital STEAM education resources are equally important for hands-on learning, particularly in today’s technology-driven world. Platforms like Scratch and Tynker introduce coding through interactive and game-like environments, where students can design their own animations, stories, and even games. This fosters creativity while teaching valuable skills in coding and problem-solving.
Scratch: A visual programming language designed for younger learners that makes learning coding fun and intuitive.
Tynker: Offers coding challenges and projects, allowing students to create interactive games, apps, and websites.
For older students or those with more advanced interests, platforms like Arduino and Raspberry Pi provide the tools needed to create their own computers, sensors, and even robots. These platforms promote real-world application of computer science, programming, and engineering principles.
3. STEAM Apps for Mobile Devices
In the age of smartphones and tablets, apps can be an engaging and interactive way to enhance hands-on STEAM learning. There are a multitude of apps designed to foster creativity, problem-solving, and engineering skills.
Tinkercad: A 3D design and printing tool that allows students to create 3D models, perfect for teaching engineering and design principles.
Bloxels: An app that lets students design, build, and play their own video games, combining both arts and technology in one platform.
Osmo: An interactive platform that bridges physical and digital learning with hands-on activities in math, coding, and creative arts.
These apps are designed to offer interactive, engaging experiences that bring STEAM subjects to life, making them accessible anywhere and anytime.
4. STEAM Workshops and Camps
While individual tools and resources are essential, structured learning environments such as workshops and camps provide students with the opportunity to engage with peers and mentors, deepening their understanding through collaborative projects. Makers’ Muse STEAM education resources, such as workshops, bring students together for hands-on, live projects that encourage critical thinking and problem-solving. These environments promote teamwork, leadership, and creativity, offering a well-rounded approach to STEAM education.
Codeacademy Workshops: Coding-focused camps and workshops offer students practical experience and expert guidance, helping them bring their programming skills to life.
Summer STEM Camps: These camps focus on engaging activities that cover all aspects of STEAM, from coding to engineering challenges.
5. Digital Fabrication Tools
Modern fabrication technologies have transformed the way students approach hands-on learning in STEAM education resources. 3D printing and laser cutting technologies, for example, provide a platform for students to design and create real-world objects. Using 3D printers, students can visualize their engineering ideas and prototypes, which helps them learn about design thinking and iteration.
MakerBot and Ultimaker are leading 3D printer brands often used in educational settings.
Laser cutters can turn digital designs into physical models, helping students learn about precision, material properties, and product prototyping.
These tools allow students to take their ideas from the digital realm to tangible, real-world products, bridging the gap between theory and practice.
6. Books and Educational Resources
Books that encourage hands-on STEAM education resources can be a great tool for independent or classroom learning. Titles such as “The Art of Tinkering” and “STEAM Kids” provide a variety of fun and educational projects that allow students to dive into the creative and scientific aspects of STEAM. Additionally, many of these books come with detailed instructions, fostering a deeper understanding of the subject matter.
7. Collaborative Platforms for STEAM Learning
Finally, collaboration is key in today’s learning environment. Platforms like Google Classroom, Edmodo, and Flipgrid enable students to share their projects, collaborate on ideas, and receive feedback from peers and teachers. These platforms foster communication, critical thinking, and creativity, all of which are essential to STEAM education.
Get started with hands-on STEAM learning today!
STEAM education is all about fostering creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving. The best STEAM education resources for hands-on learning are those that actively engage students in creating, building, and experimenting. A Random Act of Kindness (RAK) is something that you do for another person, without any expectation of a return. It is an altruistic act intended to make the world better in a small or big way. The act doesn’t require a thank you or acknowledgement in any form from the person receiving the act of kindness.
Tumblr media
Being kind is literally good for you! Scientifically, being kind makes you feel better and is even better for your physical wellbeing. In a post-pandemic world, tackling social isolation and loneliness is high on the agenda for many, and RAK is an accessible route to addressing these issues through social and cooperative action. Humans are hardwired to be social animals and a little bit of kindness between us just makes the world a better place.
Tumblr media
We printed these postcards with our new LEGO printing set, a funny and easy way to shape visual messages, as well as a chance to feel like playing kids again : )
Each participant of our workshop designed a postcard around the topic of „connection“, „love“, and „kindness“.
A simple flower is a representation of a gift, of beauty offering herself to the world.
A heart is the universal symbol of love, but also is what makes us all human, all the same, all one.
The roots of a tree are infinite connections that grows beneath us, rooting us down to the earth, remembering we all come from one seed.
On the back of the postcards we all wrote a RANDOM MESSAGE OF KINDNESS : )
We will leave these postcards around the city. Who will find them?
It does not matter. What matters, is the love we put in.
