a rug hook commission for @stickynotebirds! :O (who also drew the original sketch/design and I tweaked it a little bit)
#rug hooking#artists on tumblr#fiber art#had a very fun time working on this :]#I think this is the biggest one I've done so far (20x20) so that was really fun to see when it was completed#-squints- I think actually 20x21? mfhgj the backing fabric either got a wee bit stretched on the frame#or because the yarn is kinda packed in on this one haha#forgot to take a pic of the back but I printed out these little fabric tag labels to sew on#sending international mail had me sWEATING hahaha#but thank god for online making things so much easier where you just print it out/slap it on and it's fine >:'D#edit: wanted to wait till it arrived safely to post this (and it has!!)

I love when I see posts like "Share how many crochet WIPs you currently have! I have 5, it's so many!"
Like, girl, I have unfinished projects from over a decade ago that I refuse to frog on the off chance I decide to finish them. I've found years-old projects I forgot I even started and will impulsively just finish it on the spot. I've started three different projects in the last 2 months, including one I started yesterday, that I already know I may or may not finish within the year depending on motivation.
The number of WIPs I have is infinite.
#crochet#knitting#needlepoint#sewing#embroidery#shoutout to the time it took me 4 years to make my dad a hat. and like 6 years to make a turtle for a teacher.#i picked up yarn spinning for ONE day in like 2017. i have not done it since.#there's a half finished elephant amigurumi sitting in a basket and i started that guy in like 2011#i have two maybe three shawls i know of that are sitting unfinished in a storage bag#plenty of swatches of things that i start and lose interest in#currently i have a cardigan i wanted to make and started it and then got bored so i stopped#there's a hat i was knitting for my nanna that i started maybe 2 days before she passed#and that's sat unfinished i can't even look at it. i have no clue if i'll ever actually finish it.#there's at least one skirt i never finished sewing. and two skirts i have all the materials for but haven't started.#i know i have one beach cover up dress and one cover up skirt that i started in 2017 and didn't finish.#i think my oldest work in progress though dates back to when i was 9 or 10. i made a slipper. never finished the other foot.#that was in 2005 or 06. so literally i might have WIPs older than someone who is reading this.#and those are the just some of the ones i REMEMBER. buried in my yarn stash are probably others i've just forgotten.

ear
The ears are definitely the part of the head that I've been dreading the most, because I've always struggled to make them work. I was never 100% satisfied with the ear results on past heads, so this time I'm trying a different method. It's based on TinnatuPaws's ear patterns, not actually printing and using any of them directly because I wanted that front border to have a slightly different shape, but taking the general method/idea. Took a couple hours to put together a working pattern because I only had a vague idea of what I was doing, and I guess the final look is pretty similar to TinnatuPaws's canine ear design anyways so perhaps it would've been easier to just use that one directly but w/e too late now. I think it turned out pretty alright, but of course the real test will come once I actually put fur on it.
These ears also probably look a tad on the large side for a standard housecat--that was intentional; I'm a bit worried about this head base being a bit too small compared to the other parts of the suit so I'm gonna try compensating by exaggerating the ears, head floof, and cheek floofs a bit. This base already has proportionally very large eyes so I think I can get away with it. Fingers crossed!
I did try on my previous head with the new body the other day to get a better idea of the size ratio and it looked alright, though while the base for my previous head is similar in size to this new one, I do think it might be sliiiiiightly larger overall, even accounting for the fact that it has fur and this one doesn't yet. Hopefully the difference won't be all that significant and I won't be walking around with a comically tiny head, but as with the ear method, the real test won't be till I actually fur it. So....we shall see.
#gonna take a break for a bit as soon as i finish assembling the other ear#but gonna come back later tonight and see if i can't at least get the pattern for the inside lining done#that way i'll be able to sew and install that tomorrow#and then come Saturday i'll be able to start on the exciting part: fur#also though while i'm gonna finish assembling the ears today i don't think i'm gonna actually attach them to the base just yet#i think it might be a bit easier to just mark where they go on the base#then fur them separately#and THEN glue/sew them onto everything else#well....one way to find out#.......also gonna tidy up a bit in here i think. it's a disaster rn#and yeah a mess is expected/inevitable when working on a project like this#and a total cleanup is pretty pointless until the project is done cuz it's just gonna get messy again fast#especially if imma be working with fur fabric#but living in disaster zone for weeks can zap morale a bit 😅#not that i'm the tidiest person in the world by any stretch of the imagination but#there are limits 😅

howdy!! it's been a minute but i'm still around. fair warning-- i have been lurking the whole time and have about. 100+ posts drafted 😵 you'll be seeing these shortly, i'll try my best to space them out as i get around to tagging them
#tldr im fine it's just been a lot lately and i havent had the energy to tag anything#which!! i like being chatty in the tags and i try my best to say at least something cool about any art or fic i rb#when you're running on 0 tho.... it gets hard to keep that energy up yk???#long version: (if anyone is reading this ty but feel free to drop off at any point it's kinda heavy and just a vent)#hit the 'one more minor inconvenience and im running off into the woods forever' point about five major events ago yet we're still truckin#firstly: found out two months ago (february) that i needed 6 credits worth of college by june to keep my teaching license for next year#so accelerated online graduate courses were the only option and i have since done more work for that than my 5 year undergrad#im almost done with the second class but im so fuckin drained dude i havent been able to really draw/write or play music or sew or anything#everything i do try has either been hit with the executive dysfunction or turns out Bad enough that i get frustrated#shortly after i found out the nice old guy downstairs died my upstairs neighbor who i cared a lot about died. last week and im still waitin#to find out when the funeral is from her son. ive been taking that kinda hard since i feel like i should have checked on her#my parents are moving 17 hours cross country to move back to where we are which is nice but ive been hearing about all their stress with th#house sale on loop by this point whenever i talk to them. which fair they managed to sell the house in a week when we thought itd be months#got smacked with thousands of dollars of surprise car repairs out of nowhere to get my inspection sticker and am still trying to recover#and petty things: lost my favorite piece of clothing and broke my glasses last week while running tech week for the kids#idk man any one thing at a time i could've toughed out better its just been all at once#anyways like i said i'm still truckin and will probably delete this (or at least the tags on it) later had to get all that out somewhere#messenger pidge#if anyone did get this far down thank you for watching me yap <3 i promise im good and will be back to normal shenanigans soon hopefully

me at work: *literally writing the guidelines for needle safety* me at home: wow bead looming...loom beading?...using a beading loom requires an awful lot of pointing a needle towards your own hand
#yes the theme song from jaws is playing in the back of my mind but i've done four rows and haven't stabbed myself yet#(the needles at work are on syringes and the process involves stabbing things with force and conviction#the ones for bead looming are sewing needles and don't require force)

updates! we're on the other side of my body & the fabric now bc i sewed.... all my seams the wrong way round (i SWEAR im competent at this)
not many changes with the front! i fixed the strap position & i think im happy with it now. i am looking at that stomacher size & im thinking it looks a little narrow? im thinking in my next round of adjustments im going to fold over the robe line another cm at least- the neckline could stand to be wider anyway.
most of the changes are to the back! the fit along the seam is MUCH better now :) that was the main thing i think actually succeeded.... the rest still needs work.
im happier with where the strap seam hits on the body, but i think the angle is too steep & it needs to be back further up the armhole.
i also lowered the back neck to line up with where the strap met it, but i think its lower than i want, so instead im going to lift it up another inch & change how the strap meets it instead.
and last thing is that i thinkkkkk the armhole is too low at the bottom so im going to add more there- i figure i can always trim it away if i dont like it anyway ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
i think thats all!!!! honestly, its pretty close to how i want it, at least in terms of fit. im going to go look at a bunch of examples and see if theres anything that needs changing visually, but i think im ready to cut into my real lining fabric!
#the real actual truth is i sewed all the seams wrong the first time#i will be doing the back slit ties thing but nonetheless i wanted it to fit well without it#i also realise i havent done a robe intro post yet. i dont really feel like im ready??? but i guess i AM working on it#lady stede build#the back neck doesn't look super low but its actually like. a whole finger length from my nape

pacing around wondering if I'll hear back from a job despite it being the dead of night
#oxbow.txt#I'm stress sewing a circa 1970 bra#well I copied a pattern from a complete bra pattern I own and am comparing it to extant examples#the ones closest to what I'm working with are all from the USSR???#anyway I need to buy two kinds of elastic and decide on fasteners#anyone in this chat used a bikini clasp? do they stay on?#asking because this demands an obscure form of closure (single elastic bra hook) that no longer exists#so I'd need a French bra back as Mrs Depew calls them#either that or I could try using the slight mechanical stretch across the band but that's not how it's done with wovens#or I could sew a hook and eye to the elastic like the directions say but hellll no#I'd rather do a button and loop at that point

Goldwork repair, finished! Neckline trim, pinned in place! Time to start sewing this trim to the dress, woot.
#RRD cosplay#my cosplay#my sewing#Dragon Con prep#Dragon Con 2023#somehow the center back turned out just slightly steeper of a V than the center front#they SHOULD have been identical but eh#I wouldn't have even noticed it if not for the mirror pattern of the neckline trim#it's off by millimeters maybe#but really as long as it's symmetrical left to right it's fine#front to back was never going to actually be symmetrical by the end anyway#okay gonna post these progress pics to IG then start handsewing the trim down#probably from center back working towards the shoulders#since getting the center back sewn down is what is blocking the grommeting phase#the front and shoulders can get done whenever#but it'd be nice to start grommeting tomorrow

i think it would be so fun to make trigun monster high doll repaints. i dont have the base dolls i would want for the characters though so alas it is but a dream for me
#my post#i would want a big sister body doll for milly + a little sister for meryl#as well as two male dolls for vash and wolfwood#i dont really care about what color the skins are cause i can paint over those just fine#but as far as face molds go i would have to check out all the dolls in those categories and choose who all i think would be best#but obviously thatd be hard af cause those types of dolls are all more rare than the regular female ones#i need to finish my one doll i was working on a while back#ive been lazy. and distracted#plus im done with the face and fun sewing. all thats left is annoying sewing and the hair#which i dont like doing. so
