i am a master jester and to prove it watch me juggle all of these projects flawlessly

#work (check) animation (check) assets (check) crafting (check) side art (check) planning next project (check)#NO FREE TIME AT ALL THO LOL #my current goal is to just rolladex thru all of these until i start finishing them #the animation is almost done then theres only 1 really big asset left to make #all of the big seams on kau are done so today i make the legs and tail and the sewing is baaaasically done #there will be embroidery and wool yarn crafts to add to him later but thats after i do all the sculpting stuff #truly my biggest hurdle on the planet is trying to draw bullwaerk i cannot get his design right and im going insane LOL #unmanagable vision. many people have tried to help me with other visuals but none of them are at all what im trying to make #maybe it hasnt been made because its SO HARD TO FIGURE OUT HOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!#anyway #works done back to sewing

I love when I see posts like "Share how many crochet WIPs you currently have! I have 5, it's so many!"

Like, girl, I have unfinished projects from over a decade ago that I refuse to frog on the off chance I decide to finish them. I've found years-old projects I forgot I even started and will impulsively just finish it on the spot. I've started three different projects in the last 2 months, including one I started yesterday, that I already know I may or may not finish within the year depending on motivation.

The number of WIPs I have is infinite.

#crochet #knitting #needlepoint #sewing #embroidery #shoutout to the time it took me 4 years to make my dad a hat. and like 6 years to make a turtle for a teacher.#i picked up yarn spinning for ONE day in like 2017. i have not done it since.#there's a half finished elephant amigurumi sitting in a basket and i started that guy in like 2011 #i have two maybe three shawls i know of that are sitting unfinished in a storage bag #plenty of swatches of things that i start and lose interest in #currently i have a cardigan i wanted to make and started it and then got bored so i stopped #there's a hat i was knitting for my nanna that i started maybe 2 days before she passed #and that's sat unfinished i can't even look at it. i have no clue if i'll ever actually finish it.#there's at least one skirt i never finished sewing. and two skirts i have all the materials for but haven't started.#i know i have one beach cover up dress and one cover up skirt that i started in 2017 and didn't finish.#i think my oldest work in progress though dates back to when i was 9 or 10. i made a slipper. never finished the other foot.#that was in 2005 or 06. so literally i might have WIPs older than someone who is reading this.#and those are the just some of the ones i REMEMBER. buried in my yarn stash are probably others i've just forgotten.

The ears are definitely the part of the head that I've been dreading the most, because I've always struggled to make them work. I was never 100% satisfied with the ear results on past heads, so this time I'm trying a different method. It's based on TinnatuPaws's ear patterns, not actually printing and using any of them directly because I wanted that front border to have a slightly different shape, but taking the general method/idea. Took a couple hours to put together a working pattern because I only had a vague idea of what I was doing, and I guess the final look is pretty similar to TinnatuPaws's canine ear design anyways so perhaps it would've been easier to just use that one directly but w/e too late now. I think it turned out pretty alright, but of course the real test will come once I actually put fur on it.

These ears also probably look a tad on the large side for a standard housecat--that was intentional; I'm a bit worried about this head base being a bit too small compared to the other parts of the suit so I'm gonna try compensating by exaggerating the ears, head floof, and cheek floofs a bit. This base already has proportionally very large eyes so I think I can get away with it. Fingers crossed!

I did try on my previous head with the new body the other day to get a better idea of the size ratio and it looked alright, though while the base for my previous head is similar in size to this new one, I do think it might be sliiiiiightly larger overall, even accounting for the fact that it has fur and this one doesn't yet. Hopefully the difference won't be all that significant and I won't be walking around with a comically tiny head, but as with the ear method, the real test won't be till I actually fur it. So....we shall see.

#gonna take a break for a bit as soon as i finish assembling the other ear #but gonna come back later tonight and see if i can't at least get the pattern for the inside lining done #that way i'll be able to sew and install that tomorrow #and then come Saturday i'll be able to start on the exciting part: fur #also though while i'm gonna finish assembling the ears today i don't think i'm gonna actually attach them to the base just yet #i think it might be a bit easier to just mark where they go on the base #then fur them separately #and THEN glue/sew them onto everything else #well....one way to find out #.......also gonna tidy up a bit in here i think. it's a disaster rn #and yeah a mess is expected/inevitable when working on a project like this #and a total cleanup is pretty pointless until the project is done cuz it's just gonna get messy again fast #especially if imma be working with fur fabric #but living in disaster zone for weeks can zap morale a bit 😅#not that i'm the tidiest person in the world by any stretch of the imagination but #there are limits 😅

Whose idea was it to make a kirtle out of flannel bedsheets in 29C weather?

Oh yeah, mine.

I'm merrily calling this project 'my descent into madness' and I'm having a grand old time. I'm engraining the metric system in my brain (American down, folks), I'm delighting in how comfy this thing is going to be (I did a quick pinned fitting with the side gores in, it is so soft and so flowy, and it'll be even more flowy once I get the front and back gores in), and I not only definitely have enough fabric for the sleeves, scary as they may be, but probably one or two kerchiefs as well! I won't wear those with the kirtle, that's too much dark blue in one go, though.

#holy run on sentence batman #i thought about making a wimple to go with #but i don't have any white linen #the goal for tomorrow is to get the side seams done (i'll probably fit them more later but depends on how the shoulders work out #and get the front and back gores pinned in at least #seam finishing? maybe #i think i may end up using the sewing machine #which is not historically accurate but i can't be bovvered (in the words of rachel maksy)#historical fashion i may prefer but modern tools are nothing to sneeze at #also i want this done by tuesday so if i'm going to spend hours handfelling seams then i'm cutting some corners for time's sake #this isn't my blog's usual topic matter but my historical fashion special interest is awake and you are all going to hear about it #(yes i am aware that three people will see this total)#chatters from the nightsky #sewing

I remembered that I can actually do anything I want, so I've been using faux fur as a texture element in patching up my old ripped jeans (not done stitching yet as evidenced by the pins on the border of it)

I am also going to buy red thread and try to include a decorative amogus somewhere on here.

#Ford's art #visible mending #sewing #color says shit #I've been staying up until almost 2am sewing because I lose track of time while stitching.#I used a denim patch as an actual backing and cut and trimmed the fur patches to size and cut the fur around the hole #so they're essentially inserted between the denim backing and the front pant layer.#so I'm finished sewing the fur in place (that's the three circular x stitch patterns)#so now I'm working on the anchor stitches for the entire backing patch #because I've done smaller patches and the pants often rip out right next to the patch #so a larger patch that reinforces the fabric that's still incredibly worn but not quite ripped out helps prevent more ripping #my earlier patch jobs weren't very good but I'm getting better each time #and I have plenty of ripped jeans to practice on.#I'm just sad I can't wear them to work because they're visibly patched.#which.. that's the point for me but work dress code doesn't like that #if they were cutely embroidered I could definitely. but I'm going for the janky look so work won't approve

spent 80% of my day making the pain-in-the-ass squares for my ace jon quilt and consequently my body is 80% pain now

#there are two squares from the fanart #and one of them is extremely nice to do with just squares and rectangles #and - crucially - i cut them out correctly #the showpiece squares are much more fiddly and i'm going to go back in time and beat myself for not cutting the pieces out correctly #the hourglass blocks are all a half inch too small and i don't know what i did with the 2.5 squares but they are shit as well #but there are only five showpiece squares left to do now so i can absolutely knock those out in another day #and then i'll get to work on the filler squares and making rows #i really wasn't sure i'd be able to get this quilt done by end of year but batch sewing really helped #so if i can Focus and also Not Break My Back with this. i might even get the top done by the end of this month???#and then it's on to the worst part. the absolute worst part. finding backing.#(but also this is if i go the square route. whereas my original plan would add another 2 rows)#(and i was getting lazy but like........... 7x9 quilt............extremely good vibes from a 7x9 quilt........)#but then there's ALSO what i'm planning on doing about the actual quilting #because with all the very close calls with too-small blocks i probably NEED some dense quilting #but i haven't figured out my free-hand quilting foot and i don't want to practice on a quilt i've poured myself into already #so.......i guess i'll have to send it away 🥺#agh i'm Tired i just want to have the finished thing in my hands #BUT WILL THEY LET ME BIND IT? binding it is my favorite step i need to bind it myself i can't deal with strangers doing my baby's binding #i don't know!! and my back hurts too much to think about it anymore #quilting tag
