okay i've answered my own question and i think i can say that the purple/pink that shows up when ember & wade's orange & blue mix, usually on wade when he's close enough to ember, IS additive color mixing!

i remembered that some physics site might have an interactive additive light toy, and:

turning down the green creates the orange (instead of yellow) and cerulean/azure (instead of cyan), and the combination of those colors Is a pinker/lighter magenta!

put that color against a screenshot:

it's the reflection of ember's light off wade: the brighter parts of her are yellow, and the brighter part of her reflection in him is an even brighter pink, closer to white, which lines up with the colors mixing additively, since yellow has more green light than orange, and this [combo of their colors] pink is the result of what would be white light with some of the green taken out. add it back in, and it's closer to white

i think it's really neat; love that for them

I think I'm going to treat myself to being off tumblr until Tuesday. a nice long stretch of four days to force my brain to calm down, and if I feel like it, maybe a longer vacation soon. I'll be back today (or maybe tomorrow) to post the next Strange Redemption chapter, and my queue will be running.

In the meantime, I'll be doing art, talking to friends, playing board games, working, cleaning, et cetera... :)

I think a big part of this is the difference between how player-involved their individual quest lines are. Out of the three of them, Astarion's personal quest--and consequently his romance quest--is extremely player-involved, and the outcome of it hinges on you having developed some level of relationship with him and had an impact on him.

On the other end, Gale's personal quest--and thereby his romance--is slightly more involved, but it can pretty much be entirely done from talking to him in camp, and never taking him with you except for the final section of it. And even there, in his meeting with Mystra, the culmination of his personal journey, your character isn't actually there with him. You can suggest the kind of thing he should say, but you don't actually get to be involved, certainly not the way that you are in the Cazador confrontation.

And for Wyll, it's even less so. Pretty much the entirety of Wyll's character arc can be done without him in your party: finding Karlach, finding out about his dad, rescuing Mizora and breaking his contract, Gortash's inauguration, rescuing his dad, etc.. And the only part of his quest that he actually does have to be there for--the final Mizora contract confrontation--is done in camp, so he never actually has to travel with you.

Astarion, by contrast, has a ton of unique reactions and personal quest moments scattered throughout the game. You get more out of his story by taking him with you, in a way you don't with most of the other companions.

And then there's the Dark Urge, who's romance is basically tailor made for Astarion--to the point where the writers involved have specifically said that he gets the most unique Durge romance interactions. (this is not a dig on the writer, they specifically called out that they wished they had been able to do that for everyone, but there simply wasn't time.) Two people struggling with the darkness inside of them, and wanting to be more than the monsters someone else made them. It's a poetic parallel that you just don't get with anyone else.

And that's really too bad, because Wyll as a character has the potential for a ton of really great, unique reactions to things in the game, particularly once you get to city in Act 3. He should have a more involved quest line.

I don't think it's talked about enough how truly buck wild our level/speed of communication is. We didn't have this 100 years ago! And even then it's only been in the last 20-30 we really embraced technology and our global stage.

Our communities are still experiencing huge upheavals around this and we don't acknowledge it because of all the benefits being wired in brings. You can find jobs and resources and entertainment, sure, but you also have to have accounts here, here and here to access healthcare or a rent portal or TV.

On one end we have an elderly class that is overwhelmed. They learned complex systems already! Taxes, licensing, registration. They know where the offices are - right down the street. Why the change? "Because this site simplifies it." Does it? Does it really? Is it really more simple when someone has to have reliable access to a computer, the wherewithal to make/check an email, and the ability to navigate ten different sites to access the one they want? Why can't they go meet their doctor in person when that's the way it's been since they were children? Why did they learn to make eye contact and shake hands if not for this?

On the other, we have a younger generation that has been tasked with absorbing a huge amount of information since day one. Their brains have to work differently because the tools given to them are different than the ones older generations received. Of course they can find a primary care physician. The site operates like the one they were forced to learn in high school to turn in assignments! And why should they know how to do taxes or balance a checkbook? They were tasked with learning how to navigate the internet - they know where the information is. In a sea of "right now" demands and "this shouldn't take long because you can Google it" assignments, they have to be selective in what takes their attention.

We are currently between a time of "trust the process" and "immediately." So many people feel unheard or ignored because of this. The elderly feel isolated, helpless, and stonewalled. The youth feel anxious, mocked, and bullied.

The world changed and it happened invisibly.

this one’s a bit short, but it was suggested and i thought it was really cute so yk i had to write it. based off of drew’s recent esquire interview <3

“Your audition tape for Queer was a slam dunk, can you tell us what you did for the tape?” Drew read the question card.

“Oh, this is actually a funny story.” Drew laughed to himself, crossing his legs. “The first one I had my good friend Rudy Pankow help me tape it. I usually have my girlfriend help me, but she was shooting at the time.”

“One of the scenes was me in bed, I believe, and so Rudy came to my apartment,” Drew explained, speaking dramatically with his hands, “and I had my camera and tripod set up and I was laying in the bed, kinda sort-of framing myself and he came in was like… ‘so what are we doing’?”

Drew laughed, “and I told him, ‘just trust me, ok, I need your help’. Then, as if it couldn’t get any more suspicious, my wonderful girlfriend, y/n, gets back from shooting and walks into our room to find me and Rudy on our bed with the camera set up.”

“I was like, ‘babe I promise this is not what it looks like, I’m just filming an audition’, but she was already like on the floor, crying and laughing.” Drew grinned at the memory, the site of y/n’s smile and adorable laughter playing in his mind.

“But, I appreciate him for helping me with that… and y/n for not freaking out at the strange site she walked in on.” Drew laughed, flipping to the next card.

“Oh, speak of the devil, your good friend y/n y/ln was quoted saying, ‘Drew is probably the scariest sweetheart you’ll ever meet’,” Drew blushed as he read, “what is it like finding the balance between ‘scary’ and ‘sweetheart’ roles?”

The quote was from an interview when someone asked y/n if she ever felt intimidated or even scared working opposite Drew as the big bad Rafe Cameron on Outer Banks. While the scenes between their characters on OBX would certainly get intense at times, it wasn’t very often she was “scared” of Drew. After all, she knew her boyfriend better than anyone else and knew the big heart hiding behind his imposing exterior.

“Wow, I’d like to thank my ‘good friend’ y/n y/ln for that wonderful quote.” Drew grinned, scratching his jaw bashfully. “Well I certainly like to challenge myself, and y’know depending on where I am, that could come in the form of more intense roles or more grounded or more kinda… soft? I don’t know. Y/n says I need to be in a rom com, so maybe that’ll be the next step after this.”

Look, I just think it's really "interesting" that PayPal can not pay you what you're owed and get away with it despite multiple interventions from legal agencies you go to, but heaven forbid you go into negatives for too long or you're the greatest evil and "we will pursue legal action if this continues".

TLDR I will be using a different site the moment I find one that actually works in my country and is mainstream enough so I can actually pay for art and get money for commissions lmao

I love tumblr so much because it's in general so anonymous, fandom and content are the main focus, but sometimes someone you follow shares that they had a great day or smth exciting is happening and you just feel like "I so happy for you, bestie". And just feel like it's a perfect balance of mutual interests and personal information that doesn't overwhelm you or make you to form a weird parasocial connection like some other social media.

I've promo'd my book's tumblr account on like 4 different social medias (including tumblr itself through this account).

I've followed topic-related blogs big and small, and interacted with/reblogged their content.

I've used all manner of applicable tags both proper and conversational (ie talking through tags to make it less rigid and because it's the norm on here)

I've liked, reblogged, posted, changed the profile pic, the whole shebang.

Only thing I haven't done is directly message/ask folks requesting follows because that just doesn't feel right. And yet the book blog is completely dead in the water. I know that content-wise Tumblr users would be the most likely to enjoy the series, so obviously I'm sad about this, but I genuinely don't know what I'm doing wrong at this point 😓
