OMGGG HII AGAIN I MISSED YOU
(I will not apologize on my knees with tears u caused me to be unbelievably soft for Hyunjin and now u must suffer the consequences of my overactive imagination but seriously ☹️☹️☹️☹️ him painting on u oml I love him)
I WISH I HAD QUESTIONS FOR U LOL I DONT I JUST WANTED TO SAY ILY LOTS 🫶 and also your latest fic will never let me see an orange the same way again 🥲 I want someone to peel my oranges now (I actually don’t know how to peel an orange 💀)
ok actually one tiny question hehe. I love how u see the members sooooo what’s like one thing u would say u love about Hyune? Yes essays r allowed I wanna hear them all :3 just how would u describe him to someone that has zero idea who he is! Ur fics always make me see the members in different lights and I just wanna see how ur brain sees them in general hehe
-💫
AKDJDJJDJD the consequences of my own actions...... (never complaining i LOVE ur scenarios) & ILY TOOOO,, manifesting someone to peel oranges for uuuuu U DESERVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
now for ur hyune question wow the deep breath i had to take. u said essays are allowed so. U BROUGHT THIS UPON URSELF
okay if i were to describe hyunjin to someone who doesn't know him I'd say he's brave. I've always believed that it takes immense courage to feel in a world that vilifies you for it. real strength is when you keep on feeling, loving, trusting, even after being hurt, because those are the emotions that make us humans at the end of the day, and to open your heart again, to not give up on seeing the good qualities in people even after being disappointed takes a lot of strength.
it's so easy to hate, to close your heart off because there is nothing to lose in hate, or indifference, you know? but there is so much to lose in love.. sometimes you leave parts of yourself in other's people's lives that you won't be able to recover, since loving someone, whether romantically or platonically, is to blindly hand your soul to them, not knowing if they'll treat it with care or toy with it.
but for hyunjin the risk is worth it. hyunjin saying that he trusts easily, gets hurts easily, but repeats again because isn't that what life is about. hyunjin saying that he always tries to look for warmth in people even after being hurt. hyunjin saying that he doesn't love someone hoping for a good outcome, he doesn't love someone because he knows he won't be hurt but because they're lovable. hyunjin who's still so open about love, who still regards it in a pure manner, who thinks it is the very center of our world, who views the feeling under a good light despite being disappointed. all of these things take so much courage.. that's why i said he's brave
but also since we're on the same topic, and u said essays are allowed AKDJDJ i'd say he's the embodiment of hope, the way he views our world, the way he talks, the way he reassures stays. he feels like sunlight spilling between tree leaves, not fully there to brighten the forest, but enough to infuse you with hope to keep going, to keep seeking the way out of darkness. "there will be an end to the sadness too even if you don't end it" (this one stuck with me because someday you wake up and you haven't really done anything new but suddenly breathing feels easier and you swear you're okay again) "you have to find happiness in your daily life, because if you look for it in ideals then it will become an untainable illusion" like his words aren't like u will be happy always!!!!!! or you will quit being sad this instant!!!!! but more of, happiness will sneak up on you when you least expect it, you just have to meet it in the middle. and i find that very comforting, and hopeful.
i could keep going but i will shut up now. ur words about u loving how i see the members always make me feel very warm :')) thank you i truly love you

They had made it to Paris. Y/N couldn't believe how big the crowd would be for their performance at the festival 'Lollapalooza'. The sun was shining, and all she wanted to do was fully appreciate the nice weather. Although, where there was a Changbin, there was always chaos.
"Hwang Hyunjin!" Changbin called from opposite Y/N in his deck chair.
"Why do you keep calling me? Wae? Wae. Wae?" Hyunjin loomed over Changbin in a hoodie and sunglasses, wondering why the older member wanted his attention.
"Jinnie how are you wearing a hoodie right now? The sun's out, it's boiling," Y/N raised an eyebrow at him.
"It's not that hot," he shook his head at her, probably side eyeing her from behind his shades.
Each to their own, Y/N thought.
Somehow they came onto the topic of noodles but Y/N wasn't really fussed, she had ramen all the time back home.
She was more trying to relax, and she couldn't help but fall asleep from the comforting warmth of the French sunshine.
"Y/Nnie, wake up, you look like a tomato," Jeongin shook her awake, and as she became fully aware she realised her arms and neck was feeling quite hot.
Shit, she forgot her sun cream.
"You good? Your arms are so red," Chan peered at her, concerned.
"Mmm, my neck feels hot too," Y/N sits up in the deck chair, brushing her hair back so the boys could see.
"Aish that sunburn looks bad, you should have put on some suncream," Felix lightly brushes his finger over her red arm, making her wince.
"Gosh, I'm going to look like a tomato when we perform," Y/N laughs as she looks down at her arms.
"At this rate you won't just look like a tomato, you'll look like the whole garden," Lee Know smirks, proud of his joke.
"Ha, ha, very funny Lee Know," Y/N pats his cheek in a jokingly patronising way, smiling back at him.
"You need to take better care of yourself, Y/N," Chan looked over her, shaking his head.
"I'm sorry Channie, I just wanted to enjoy the nice weather," Y/N pouted.
"You do realise you can get skin cancer if you burn too much?" Seungmin pointed out, taking a sip of water from his bottle.
"Yah, Seungmin don't say things like that I'll get paranoid," Y/N whacks his arm lightly.
"Hey I'm just saying, your skin will age faster too," Seungmin shrugged.
"I'll look like an old woman next to you guys and I'm the youngest!" Y/N laughed, Han appearing with aloe vera out of nowhere and gently rubbing it into her skin, letting out quiet apologies when she winced.
"That's why I'm helping you, don't want you to look like a 60 year old next to us whilst we still look the same," Han laughed loudly.
"Haha, that would look kinda funny though," Y/N laughed at the thought. Perhaps she'd look like grandma I.N with the rest of the group alongside her.
"You know what else would be funny?" Changbin wiggled his eyebrows at her.
"What?" Y/N asked curiously, shifting her body to stand and face him.
"To see you dancing on stage like a tomato, everyone going crazy because of how big and red you are," Changbin maniacally giggled.
The boys burst out laughing at the statement and Y/N's face.
"Huh? Big?!" Y/N gasped laughing.
"I was talking about your cheeks, they're really big and red right now," Changbin laughed, waving his hands in defense of how what he said had sounded.
"Haha, I'll introduce myself like, hi! This isn't Y/Nnie, I'm tomato today!" Y/N put on her stage voice, pretending to introduce herself to her fans.
The members all laugh at her, Jeongin walking up to her and tickling her sides.
"Hey! Are you the new mascot for ketchup?" he cheekily grinned, eyes disappearing through his smile.
"Yah! Jeongin!" Y/N guffawed from his remark.
"Ah, our tomato is blushing so much," Lee Know pats her head smirking.
"Stop, stop," Y/N waves them away.
"Haha, seriously though, come inside the tent for a bit, you should stay out of the sun," Chan guided her into their tent where they were setup before their performance.
"Yeah it's not like we're performing until a few hours anyways," Lee Know nodded, as they all sat around inside.
"Aish, I'm tired," Y/N laid her head down in Han's lap, his hand brushing through her hair out of habit.
"You were literally just napping," Hyunjin raised a brow at her.
"Yeah but..." Y/N closed her eyes feeling relaxed at the familiar feeling.
"Drink some water first," Hyunjin put a bottle of water with a straw in it to her face.
Still with her eyes shut she took a sip and then relaxed. It wasn't until a couple of hours later that she was woken up and ushered to the stylists and makeup artists to get ready.
The crowd was insane. And really, they were the only thing keeping her going as she could feel her energy depleting. She didn't notice the glances from the boys throughout the performance, occasionally spotting her swaying yet she still managed to keep her vocals stable as they performed Superbowl for the first time ever, and Item for the second time ever.
The euphoria running through her veins began to leave her once they reached backstage. With a smile she listened to Felix end their set to hype the crowd with Seven Nation Army. But she couldn't help her slumped figure as she sat down after her desperate search for a chair.
"You good, Y/Nnie?" Chan patted her shoulder, trying to get her attention.
"Hot," Y/N panted, tugging at the collar of her leather jacket that she had been fitted with for the stage performance.
"Take it off then," Changbin helped her shake it off, now feeling concerned at her heavily sweating state.
"What's going on with Y/N?" some of the other members asked as they walked over.
"Ugh, my head," she groaned, now leant forward as she gripped onto her knees for some stability.
"Have some water, silly," Seungmin encouraged her to take his own, yet her shaky hand wasn't very reassuring to the others.
"Y/Nnie, you can't even hold onto it, are you dizzy? What's the matter?" Felix poured out questions, worried about the state she was in.
"Mmm," Y/N nods, as Jeongin helps her sip from the water bottle.
"Ah that's not good," Hyunjin shakes his head, frowning.
"Here, come on, let's get you relaxed somewhere else," Changbin helps her stand, yet as her body becomes upright she stumbles, Lee Know helping to support her balance.
Y/N suddenly tears up, feeling scared about how she was feeling. It was all too overwhelming, and everything felt too hot.
"C-can't feel my arms," Y/N whimpered as tears fell down her cheeks, the boys murmuring amongst themselves worriedly.
"You can't feel your arms?" Felix asked, a scared look on his face, and that made Y/N feel worse, she didn't want the boys to be stressed out for her sake.
"I'm sorry, I..." Y/N trailed off, still panting as she was guided back to her chair, the boys deciding it was for the better for her to rest for now where she was, instead of moving her somewhere else.
"You're okay. Everything is going to be ok, sweetheart, we've got you, yeah?" Chan hushed her soothingly, Han rubbing her back in small circles.
"Should we call a medic?" Jeongin asked, eyes wide with uneasiness.
"Yes, good idea, Innie," Lee Know nodded at him, as they both went to look for some help.
"Y/N, you're ok, you're going to be ok," Hyunjin quietly comforted her, a light grip on her hand as he knelt down beside her.
Y/N groaned again from her headache getting worse.
"Where are those medics?" Changbin asked, looking around frustratedly with his hands on his hips, wondering what was taking so long.
"Don't... worry... don't waste... on me..." Y/N could barely get her words out, especially as a wave of nausea overcome her.
"Yah, it's not a waste, you're clearly not well right now Y/N," Han looked sullen, now fanning her face with a piece of paper he had found.
"S-sorry... ugh, feel... sick," she mumbled dizzily, slumped in the chair.
"You feel sick?" Hyunjin worried.
"I'm gonna... ugh," Y/N, with all her willpower, lifted herself out of the chair, yet it wasn't enough to keep her standing as she collapsed to her knees on the ground and threw up whatever was in her system. The boys were unable to catch her and yelled out as she fell.
"Y/N! Shit!" Changbin held her against him.
"Where are the medics?!" Chan yelled angrily, stress consuming him as their maknae was on the ground.
"Ah, ugh, I'm, ah I'm sorry," Y/N whimpered, tears running down her face from her own panic and the feeling of throwing up.
"You don't have to be sorry, it's ok, just take a deep breath," Han held her hair back, looking around at the boys with his eyes shining with his own tears as he feared she wouldn't be ok.
Y/N threw up again, gasping for breath.
"Is that all of it?" Hyunjin whispered from beside them, Y/N tearily nodding as she slumped back in Changbin's arms, feeling dazed.
Lee Know and Jeongin suddenly rushed over with the medics, both of them seeming angry.
"Finally! Where were they?!" Chan asked them, sighing disappointedly.
"Packing up, they were ready to go even though we only just finished performing," Lee Know gritted his teeth as the medics lifted Y/N onto a stretcher and took her through to a medical room, much cooler with air conditioning blasting through the room.
They held a wet cloth against her forehead and against her burns to try and lower her body temperature. The boys couldn't do anything but wait anxiously as they saw their youngest laying down and getting treated.
"Her temperature is dropping, that's a good sign," the medic said out loud to the boys.
Half an hour had passed and Y/N was now more aware of her surroundings, the medics clearing that she could head back to the hotel with the boys, telling them that if her condition worsens again that they need to call an ambulance immediately.
"I'm sorry," Y/N sleepily muttered as they helped her into the company cars.
"Don't apologise, we were more concerned about you," Seungmin informed her, an arm wrapped around her waist as he and Hyunjin guided her into the back of the car.
"That's why I feel bad," Y/N bit her lip.
"It's ok, you can rest now, don't worry about it ok? I know it's easier said than done but we'll make sure you're ok, and we're doing that because we care about you, yeah?" Chan said from the front seat.
"Ok, ok," she yawned, head leaning against Hyunjin's shoulder.
Once they arrived back at the hotel they didn't let her stay in her own room, as she instead was looked after by Lee Know and Jeongin in another, the two of them making sure she was relaxed and not too hot as they kept the air conditioning on. It may have felt a bit cold for them at one point but they didn't mind, they'd do anything for her. All of the boys would.

How skz would react to 9th member y/n getting sick from overworking themselves?
LA Shenanigans!
Wanrning: passing out.
Pairing: Skz x 9th member
Summary: a hot day causes a lot of problems in the studio.
!not proof read!
Enjoy!😆
-🩷
*
Falling sick was never my intention.
Overworking was never my intention.
"And we are here with stray kids!" Everyone in the studio starts cheering and clapping making us smile and wave at them.
"So tell us how you guys feel about being here in LA and have you enjoyed it so far?" The interviewer asks us as a whole and Chan starts to speak.
"We feel great if I speak on everyone's half, the food really great and the weather too. Ummm I'd just like to say it's really good to be here and thank you for having us." His beaming and smiling really hard which causes a warm feeling fill the pit of my stomach.
"Yeah I'd like to say that the weather is really good aswell," Felix adds onto Chan's statement and smiles.
"That's great to hear! I actually heard that You guys are working on a new album is that true?"
Chan looks over to me and gives me and encouraging look, "you can answer this I think," he says causing me to sit up and talk into the mic,
"Uhhh where can I start? Ahahaha, we are working on a new album for stays and we would just like to hope that they will like it when it is finished and released but all I can say yeah it's in the works," I do a little clap and everyone agrees with me.
"Oh that's what I like to hear! Any new tours? Any new news? Tell us!" She says enthusiastically.
The room was becoming a little hot as I continued to listen to the conversation that was going back and forth.
I clear my throat and drink the water in the cup they had given us.
I shift in my chair trying to get comfortable. My stomach starting to churn.
What was going on with my body?
"Y/n! So a little birdie told us that you're working on a solo song! Any comments on that?" My neck snaps at the direction of the lady ripping me out of my trail of thoughts.
"Uhhh," I cringe at the nauseous feelings that had grown upon me, "yeah yeah I am..." my smile slowly fading away, "I'm excited to share- to share the new. What's is called? Oh! The new song.." I pause furrowing my eyebrows.
The boys started to look at me confused at my response. Han giving me a little nudge under the table.
"You good?" He whispers as the interviewer asks Seungmin a question.
"Yeah, just really hot," I whisper back and untie my collar.
"Drink some water you look tacky" he passes me cold water and goes back to looking at the lady.
My body goes cold us sweat starts to form on my forehead. Was I this tired? I know I had skipped a few meals and pushed my work hours a little but I had totally been fine until now.
Everyone laughs at a joke Changbin makes causing me to pay attention to the conversion again.
The feeling of vomit still lingering in the pit of my stomach.
"Uh...can we-" the room starts to spin really fast and is stop what I'm about to say.
"What's wrong?" Chan asks looking over at me.
"Can we take...a five." My eyes start feeling drowsy. My body feeling sluggish
"Y/n? What's wrong?" Felix quickly asks noticing my distress.
"Is she okay?" The interviewer asks now sounding very nervous, "she looks like she's about to pass out, is she okay?" She asks Han who's sitting next to me.
I stand up from my chair trying to make my way to the bathroom so I could wash my face atleast. Maybe to wakeup my body?
"Woah woah woah, Han hold her!" Hyunjin yelps as he realizes my body slowly fall to the ground.
“Y/n, talk to us how do you feel?” Felix who was on my other side rubs my back trying to get me to sit upright but words refuse to form.
I feel hands grab me. "Are you okay? Can you hear me?" I hear Han asking while shaking my body. "Somebody get me water! Now!"
The cool feeling of water pouring down my face makes me moan as the nice sensation. "Is she okay?"
I nod and wakeup. From the little trance I was in.
I can't talk I can't move but I can hear and feel. The feeling of people's hands trying to shake me awake even more.
"I got the wet cloth!" I hear Seungmin say panicking. The stuff on our team was also getting worried trying to get to me.
"Let me carry her on the couch, guys move," Chan's hands wrap around my waist as he holds me close to his body.
"Yah! Why would She pass out? Is she sick?!" Changbin says running his hands through his hair. He was walking back and forth trying to calm down.
"I don't know! She was telling me about hot it was inside here now she's passed out," Han runs his hands through his hair.
My eyes land on Chan’s and he gives me a soft smile
“Are you with us love?” He asks, “talk to me, it’s just you and me ignore these loud boys,” he glared at them causing them to all shut up and look over.
“I-I’m okay just really tired..” im able to finally say. “I- I need water. Too hot.”
He quickly grabs the water bottle and starts to feed it to me. His hand keeping the wet cloth in place.
“Try and get some energy so we can take you to the hospital yeah?” He softly says.
“No- no…no hospitals.” I groan trying to get up.
“Hey hey hey, just lay down. Shhh. It’s okay we don’t have to go to the hospital right now.” He pushes me back down and waits for me to finish drinking the water before I hand it back to him.
“How do you feel now? Hm.”
“T-tired and hot.”
“Okay just take a short nap and I’ll carry you to the car okay?” I nod in response and close my eyes.
“Ever-body shut up she’s asleep!” Seungmin yells causing a few people to chuckle.
I hadn’t had a goodnight sleep in a long time due to the long rehearsals and long schedules. It felt good just sleeping and not doing anything and I knew my body likes it because when I woke up with an IV in my arm and Felix sitting by me. The energy run through my body making me feel like I could conquer the world.
“How are you feeling love?” He asks whispering not to disturb the other members who were apparently also asleep in my hotel room.
“I feel amazing, thank you guys for taking care of me,” I whisper back and he smiles
“Always! You’re our little Angel.”

i don’t like my mind.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
part of the “now playing: mitski!” series
SUMMARY: there was nothing you could’ve said to him to keep hyunjin away from his thoughts. Not on the night of March 20, 2021.
WC: 0.675k
CW: mentions of vomiting, it’s really short but angsty, hyunjin’s hiatus in 2021 is the main plot. (as an oddinary era stay, i can’t grasp how it must’ve felt, so i’m sorry for bringing old memories back. </3)
A/N: ok, shit. as an empath, this was hard to write. talk about a challenge… uf. I’m sorry. please go check out my other works, i am not this depressing in default i swear 😭🫶
[◼️☆🎂☆◼️]
Hyunjin shivered, as he stared blankly at his phone.
The date glowed back, as if mocking him.
“19:54, March 20, 2021.”
It should’ve been a fairly normal late evening for him. But it couldn’t.
Normal had never been a word that he’d use often, but considering his usual routine, no one would’ve called that ‘normal.’
Except that it wasn’t going to be his routine anymore. He sighed.
His room felt colder than usual. He felt colder than usual.
Hyunjin nuzzled the blanket over his nose, and cocooned himself further under it.
He stared at the window, the curtains swaying from the wind that came from outside, but he didn’t mind it. He knew that he was cold because the window was open, but deep inside, he knew that closing it wouldn’t fix his coldness. Or how he felt and empty feeling inside of him, as if it was stuck to his heart.
The blanket wasn’t helping. He kicked it off with a grunt.
Then, his phone chimed. It had been chiming the past five minutes. Maybe ten.
< princess: hyunjin, please
His heart swelled in his chest.
< princess: talk to me, jinnie
< princess: I need to know you’re fine.
He only managed to chuckle dryly, a laugh full of acid, almost poisonus, and that sick feeling scattered all through his body.
...fine?
How could he be fine, knowing that most likely, his life was never going to be the same? How could he be fine, thinking that it could be possible that he really had wasted all of those years for nothing?
He closed his eyes.
Several people had texted him ‘happy birthday,’ but none of them new what it was going to be like.
Painful.
It was like daggers that threatened to puncture his heart and leave him bleeding on the floor, the only culprit being himself and whoever thought it was a good idea to leave him alone in his room, with his thoughts as his only company.
He frowned, and dizzily stood up from his bed, his body hurting from all the stress he had been putting himself to. In his mind, he had to be doing something. He wanted to do something. He didn’t want to keep waiting for the fuss to leave him. He wanted to keep dancing. To keep singing.
He needed to keep living.
The sight of his desk table gave him nausea. He grimmaced at it, his eyes swelling up with tears again.
Cake.
The one Jeongin and Felix had bringed hours ago. The one that they reluctantly admitted that they weren’t supposed to eat because of their restricted diets. The one that they had to leave there just the two of them because the rest of the members had so many things to do that they couldn’t manage to pass by.
The one he hadn’t dared to touch, afraid that it wouldn’t go pass the lump on his throat.
It stared at him. The whole cake. It made a nasty shiver trail up his spine, a sudden need to throw up that made him even more sick.
A stray tear fell down his cheek.
He took the cake with a sudden softness that almost surprised him.
His phone kept buzzing, forgotten, on his bed.
< princess: i’m sure the company will let you come back with them soon
< princess: hyunjin, please
< princess: call me when you see this
< princess: please, hyun, don’t do anything stupid.
< princess: I love you.
But not even your kind words could go through Hyunjin’s mind.
He approached the window and looked down from the fifth floor, finding a trash container next to the building in front.
With a groan, he stared at the cake, at the message over it.
“Happy birthday!”
He sniffed, quickly cleaning his tears up with one hand, as both of them trembled, the other still holding the cake.
And he threw it to the container, watching it crash against its lid despite the plastic cover.
He didn’t want to have a happy birthday.
He wanted his life back.

“What do we do? Is there someone we should call?” Jisung paces frantically, his fingers buried in his hair, his expression panicked.
Hyunjin scoffs from his spot on the couch, his arms folded over his chest, his whole posture stiff and screaming anger still. “What do you think there is? Some sort of ‘Presentation Police’?”
“Hyunjin.” Changbin warns in a low tone from beside the omega, eyes flashing to the distress obvious on Jisung’s face, in the souring of his scent.
The distress flooding everyone at this point.
“He’s right though.” Seungmin comments from his spot against the wall, watching everyone warily, as if he’s studying you all. “We will have to get the appropriate paperwork from the Heat Clinic to excuse him from studies.”
The beta shifts slightly, clearing his throat. “And delayed presentations, from what I’ve read, are like a heat, but on steroids. So whether he knows it or not, he’s gonna need an alpha-a knot-sooner rather than later.”
You don’t miss the way Changbin and Chan stiffen at his words, a muscle flinching in Chan’s clenched jaw.
Minho sighs, reaching out a hand to stop Jisung’s endless pacing, tugging the beta to him and tucking him beneath the safety of his chin.
Jisung’s body stills, but his foot still taps anxiously against the floor.
“What do we do now though? At this exact moment?”
Seungmin shrugs. “We’ll have to ask him-what he needs, what he wants. Every omega-especially newly presented ones-are different. No two are the same.”
Hyunjin snorts from his position on the couch, anger flaring to life in the dark recesses of his eyes.
“He’s in no fucking condition to talk, Seungmin. Kid can’t even keep water down. He’s miserable.”
You know why he’s angry-and he has a right to be-but your alpha growls warningly in response at the slight bitter flare to his scent, as if he’s challenging you.
You discreetly put a hand over your nose and breathe through your mouth, because the scents colliding in the room right now-heightened by uncertainty and rampaging emotions-are threatening to overwhelm you.
You can feel a headache starting to pound behind your eyes.
“He’s probably scared.” Felix whispers, eyes large and dark, expression grave and worried. He’s picking at a string on the blanket across his lap, and Hyunjin breaks his inactivity to reach out and place his fingers comfortingly over the other omegas.
Felix gives him a grateful look before he continues.
“Someone needs to be there for him. I don’t know what late presentations are like, thank god, but I do know what heats are like, and he’s not going to want to be alone.”
Chan clears his throat, resignation in his eyes as he steps forward, glancing between you, Changbin, and Minho.
“We have responsibilities as the alphas of this pack to take care of our own. We need to ask him who he wants, before he suffers needlessly.”
“He’s already suffering.” Hyunjin mutters bitterly beneath his breath, and Chan turns to him, eyes suddenly flashing, but his voice steady.
“Hyunjin, you have a right to be angry on Jeongin’s behalf, we were boneheads, I get that, but no matter how stupid we’ve been going about it, we’ve always, always put this pack first, and that’s what we’re trying to do now. Please give us a little slack, and if you don’t have anything helpful to add, find somewhere else to be until you can get control of your emotions.”
You see Felix squeeze Hyunjin’s hand, and finally the omega nods once, curt and short.
Chan blows out a long breath and glances back to all of you, and you see the dark circles forming beneath his eyes, slowly bruising the tan skin.
“Okay. How do we do this?”
You feel something heavy sink into the pit of your stomach at his words, and you immediately hold out your hands, your voice quiet as you announce, “Well, he definitely doesn’t want to see me. So I’ll take myself out of the running.”
Chan opens his mouth to say something-maybe to agree with you, maybe not-but Seungmin beats him to the punch.
“Not necessarily.” The beta pushes off the wall and comes toward you, studying you with a sharp gaze that seems to look right into everything you’re so desperately trying to keep hidden. “You may have been a straight up alpha asshole, and Jeongin may be upset with you right now, but his omega is an entirely different story.”
You stare at him, and he gives you a slight smile that doesn’t quite reach his eyes as he shrugs.
“Biology’s a bitch, remember?”
You sigh. “So you keep telling me.”
“I’ll just go and talk to him.” Hyunjin announces sharply, pushing up from the couch with a slight glare. “He’s used to my scent since I helped him down here to his apartment, so it shouldn’t trigger him too much or make him too territorial if I enter his nest-”
Suddenly, the omega sways on his feet, and Changbin is up in a flash, steadying him with an arm around his waist.
“Jin.” Changbin murmurs, his face pinched with worry and confusion as he stares at the omega. “You good?”
“Fuck, I don’t-” Hyunjin starts to say, shaking his head slowly, before he groans and leans over to clamp his arms around his midsection.
“Fuck.” He repeats again, and it’s a whimper this time, as Changbin takes all of his weight with a grunt and holds him upright.
“What the fuck is going on?” Chan asks, voice tight, as he kneels down in front of Hyunjin and tries to look up into his face, his hands going steadily on the omega’s hips.
There is the sudden sharp scent of lemons flooding out all the other smells in the room, and saliva starts to pool behind your teeth.
Your wolf begins to pace in agitation.
“I think I-” Hyunjin starts to say between gritted teeth, before doubling over once more.
And then you smell it, clear as day.
It makes your jaw ache, spit flooding your mouth, your wolf suddenly at full attention, hungry.
Slick.
“Aw, fuck.” Minho growls out, dark eyes growing more serious as he stares at Hyunjin. “Are you in heat?”
Hyunjin shakes his head violently, as Changbin helps him toward the door with slow, unsteady steps. “No! I’m diligent with tracking, I’m not even close-” “Wait.” You say, hurrying after Changbin and helping Hyunjin slip his feet into his sneakers. You glance up at the pained look on the omega’s from where you’re kneeling and suddenly, you feel stupid for not putting it together sooner.
“The same thing happened when Felix experienced his first heat as part of the pack.” You glance at Felix for confirmation, and he gives a quick nod, his eyes never leaving Hyunjin’s crumpled frame. “And now Jeongin-”
Seungmin’s eyes light up like he’s just put the puzzle pieces together too.
“Oh my god. We’re so fucking dense.”
You nod, and Hyunjin lets out a harsh breath, glaring as much as he can between the two of you.
“Spit it out. I’m dying here.”
You smooth a palm down his thigh, and the muscle trembles a little less beneath your touch, your pheromones blooming in the air between you.
“You’re our Luna.” You murmur, and your wolf growls with the rightness of it all. You can’t believe you hadn’t realized it sooner. You glance back up to Hyunjin’s pinched face. “You’re the Luna of the pack.”
Understanding crosses Hyunjin’s face, followed by panic.
“Fuck, I think I’m going to be sick-” He chokes out, and you don’t know whether it’s the sudden news of his position in the pack, or the impending heat, but he does suddenly look a bit green.
You stand, and open the door so Changbin can usher him into the hall.
“Take care of him, yeah?” You say softly as they pass you, and Changbin glances at you, nodding stiffly.
“I’ve got him, baby girl. Don’t worry.”
You nod back, holding his gaze. “I know.”
Hyunjin whines, and you have to tamp your wolf back down from answering the call.
You lean over once more to glance at his face, smoothing a hand over his hair.
“If you need me, baby-” You assure quietly, staring at him unwaveringly, your scent backing your firm words. “-I will be there immediately. Okay?”
Hyunjin nods, whimpering slightly beneath his breath, clutching his middle, and then you let them go, watching as Changbin helps him down the hall and out of sight.
You glance back in through the open doorway, to where the rest of the pack is still discussing how to help Jeongin, and now Hyunjin, and feel something heavy and forbidding settle into the pit of your stomach.
“Fuck.” You mutter beneath your breath, just to yourself and whatever God may be listening, before you go back into the apartment and shut the door.
***************
In the end, you all come to the decision that it’s for the best if the two betas go in to talk to Jeongin and see what he needs from all of you.
“Our scents are soft and faint, they won’t trigger him like the alphas’ or Felix’s would.” Seungmin had assured, looking between all of you seriously. “We’re also neutral ground, so his omega shouldn’t feel the need to be territorial over its nest either.”
And now Jisung was looking like he wanted to follow in Jeongin’s and Hyunjin’s footsteps and promptly hurl his guts up in the bathroom.
“I’m having a fucking panic attack.” He chokes out, leaning over the sink, palms flat against the cold marble of the counter, face red and sweaty.
You shut the door quietly behind you and approach him slowly, watching the way his chest heaves as he breathes in and out.
Well, gasps in and out.
“Jisung.” You murmur gently, coming up behind him and carefully sliding your hands over his, pressing your chest against his back, if only to ground him a little. “Breathe.”
“I can’t-” He stutters out, fingers clenching beneath your own, his whole body trembling, as he drops his head and gasps for breath, repeating again desperately, “-I can’t.”
“Jisung.” You echo, voice firmer this time, pressing more tightly against him, pinning him against the counter, hoping to settle him with your body weight. “Look at me.”
He lifts his head, just enough to meet your eyes in the mirror from beneath the dark fringe of his bangs, and you hold him steady with your gaze, watching the panic swirl in the depths of his eyes.
“Breathe.” You admonish again, softer once more, and Jisung manages to take in one deep, shuddering breath. You nod, squeezing his hands. “Good. Again.”
He takes in another breath, followed by another, and you wait in silence, until his heartbeat is no longer thundering through his back and into your own.
“Good boy, baby.” You praise quietly, rubbing your fingers over his own, as he ducks his head once more and takes a few more calming breaths. “That’s it. You’re doing great.”
You watch him carefully in the reflection of the mirror, gauging his condition, and after another beat of silence, he lifts his head and says hoarsely in a halting voice, not quite meeting your gaze, “I’m sorry.”
You immediately shake your head, snaking your arms around his waist now that he’s a tad calmer, squeezing him to you as you continue to both stand in front of the mirror.
“You have nothing to apologize for, ever. Not with me, not with any other member of the pack. We love you, baby. That will never change.”
You squeeze him once more, just for good measure, and he finally meets your gaze, his own large, dark eyes still slightly more shiny than normal.
“Thanks.” He whispers back, taking in another long, trembling breath.
You nod silently, still watching him, and then ask softly, “Do you want to talk about it?”
Jisung blows out the breath he had been holding, and his fingers tighten again against the lip of the counter, his knuckles whitening.
The scent of drying laundry filling the bathroom grows slightly moldy.
His body tenses beneath your hold, and you sink your chin onto his shoulder, just to remind him you’re there.
“I-” Jisung starts, biting his trembling bottom lip. “-don’t think I’m the right person for this job.”
You say nothing, waiting for him to continue.
He sighs, and releases his hold on the counter finger by finger, as if he just now realized how tightly he was clenching the stone for support.
“I don’t know what to say, or what to do, and I’ve never even dealt with someone during their cycle before-well, that’s not true, I’ve been with Minho-hyung for rut, but a heat is completely different according to Seungmin-and a whole lot is riding on this going well, and I-” His panicked rambling dies off into a groan, and he leans over the sink once more. “-Fuck, I think I’m going to be sick-”
You cling to him more tightly, and try to pull him back from the brink.
“Jisung.” You say firmly, keeping your voice calm and steady, your expression never wavering from his as you stare him down in the mirror. You mimic a deep, long breath. “Breathe, baby.”
He manages to pull in another breath at your words, and then another, and when he looks at you once more, he doesn’t look quite so intent on vomiting up his breakfast.
You let him calm down in silence for another beat, and then you ask quietly, voice firm, “Who made you feel like that?”
Jisung’s eyes flick up to yours, and there is surprise written on his face, mixed now with the panic.
“Like what?”
It’s your turn to take in a deep breath, something cold and final settling between your ribs now that you’re truly paying attention, as if your wolf knew what was happening before you did, growling low and threatening, ready to protect the beta enclosed in your arms with its final breath.
“Like you’re not good enough. Like you’re somehow lacking.”
You’re not just talking about the anxiety attacks either. You’re talking about the fact that someone made him feel as if he didn’t have anything to contribute to serious situations.
The thought makes you see red.
Jisung visibly winces, and you know you’ve hit the nail on the head.
“Jisung.” You say firmly, reaching up a hand to cup his chin, so he can’t duck his head and avoid your gaze any longer, your palm against his throat, the rapid flicker of his pulse speeding up beneath your touch.
His eyes are large and dark, and a silent tear rolls down one of his cheeks.
“You are an important, valid, loved member of this pack. When I say you can do anything you set your mind to, I mean it. And there is no one, no one, better for this job than you.”
His bottom lip quivers and you swipe your finger tip across it gently.
“You were the first one to make Innie feel welcome. The first one to help him get comfortable. The first one to invite him to hang out in a casual setting. You were the only member of the pack he trusted from the absolute very beginning. You, Jisung, no one else, you. And he needs you now. And we wouldn’t have asked you to do this, if we didn’t believe that you could.”
Jisung takes in one more deep, shuddering breath, and then nods, straightening his shoulders with a determined look.
“You’re right. I can do this.”
You give him the hint of a smile as he turns in your arms, and lean forward to press a gentle kiss to the corner of his mouth, swiping away the track left behind by the rogue tear.
The scent of laundry is cleaner now, giving hints of a warm summer day and fresh detergent.
“Yes, baby, you absolutely can.”
*********
“Stop pacing.” Minho snaps out, glaring at Chan, as he takes another circle of the room.
Chan shoots him an apologetic look and flops down beside you on the couch. “Sorry, Min.”
He glances at his watch and then to the empty hallway.
“They’ve been in there a long time. Do you think they-” “No.” You shake your head, knowing where he’s going, and let your hand rest on his jiggling thigh, stilling the nervous movement and hopefully keeping him place for a moment longer. “They’re okay. Jisung and Seungmin have got this.”
Chan sighs and nods, sinking back into the couch, but he doesn’t look happy about it.
The hand he covers your own with is trembling slightly.
“God, you’re like a nervous mother hen, hyung.” Minho remarks with a slight smirk, though you can tell, by his grip on the arm of the couch, that he’s not as relaxed as he’s pretending to be.
This whole thing has put everyone on edge.
“I can’t help it.” Chan protests, throwing his hands out helplessly. “He’s always on edge, but today it’s like ten times as bad.”
You know he’s talking about his alpha, and something in his words catches your attention, making you think for a moment.
Hyunjin being the Luna of the pack made sense after you’d put everything together, maybe Chan-
Your train of thought is interrupted by the reappearance of Seungmin and Jisung, and a fresh wave of a scent you’ve never smelled before.
Something yeasty, like rising bread? And spiced with cinnamon around the edges.
Your wolf immediately pricks its ears, growling possessively.
At the same time, Chan covers his nose beside you, pupils going wide and dark almost immediately.
“Fuck.” Jisung goes directly to Minho, curling up into his arms and snuggling his head against his chest, and Minho rears back, hissing slightly between his teeth.
Jisung glances up, expression offended. “What the fuck, hyung?”
Minho carefully deposits the put out beta onto his own cushion of the couch, and scoots closer to you and Chan, his own palm going up to cover his nose and mouth.
“No offense, Sungie, but you’re gonna have to shower before you come near me again.”
Now all three of you are crushed onto the furthest end of the couch, and Seungmin is watching from the doorway, open amusement on his features.
Jisung glances at the other beta with annoyance on his face, and Seungmin takes pity on him, coming to sit beside him as he pats his hand once in sympathy.
Minho practically climbs on top of you and Chan to get away.
“It’s Innie’s scent, hyung. It’s all over us.” Seungmin says, glancing over to the three of you with humor in his dark eyes, his brow arched. “He didn’t have one before, but now that he’s presenting, it’s kinda strong.”
“Kinda?” Chan chokes out, trying to breathe through his mouth, and you have to agree with his outrage.
You literally can’t take a breath of the yeast laden air without your entire body prickling with want.
“Well, fuck me, I guess.” Jisung grumbles, lifting the hem of his shirt to his nose as if to smell what Seungmin is talking about, then letting it fall in open disgust.
“Oh, I will.” Minho retorts back, his hand never leaving his face. “But only after you shower.”
“Well?” Chan asks impatiently, and Seungmin gives him a sharp look, to which he slumps back on the couch. “Sorry.”
“Wow, first you say we stink, now you’re taking tones with us?” Jisung wails dramatically, flinging himself over Seungmin, even as the other beta wrinkles his nose and tries, unsuccessfully, to shove him off. “The pack is being torn apart by this!”
“You don’t stink-” You start carefully, glancing at Chan and Minho, who look just as desperately frazzled as you feel. The saliva in your mouth echoes the truth of your words. “-quite the opposite actually.”
Jisung immediately ceases his wailing and sits up right.
“Oh?” He arches a brow, and a saucy look comes over his face. “So you’re telling me I shouldn’t do this-”
He makes a move to playfully lunge toward the three of you, piled on the end of the couch, and swear to god, you all visibly flinch.
“No!” You all shriek at the same time, and Minho’s elbow hits you square in the face and Chan takes your knee to his ribs as you all scrabble to get away from the smirking beta and the overwhelming, incredibly tantalizing scent of warm bread.
“Fucking hell, Jisung.” Minho groans, pinching his nose and screwing his eyes closed as if he’s getting a migraine. “Do you have a death wish?”
Jisung’s smirk grows wider. “Death by fucking? It’s my ideal way to go.”
“Yeah, well-” Chan sighs deeply. “Don’t play with fire right now, okay? Or our alphas are liable to jump you and never let you go. They’re-” He shifts uncomfortably beneath you, and you feel his hardness between your legs. It makes your mouth water more. “-incredibly riled.” He finishes lamely, and Minho scoffs and rolls his eyes at the obvious understatement of the century.
“Speaking of,” You turn to Minho, who is practically sitting on top of you, Chan on the bottom of your unfortunate dog-or wolf-pile. “Can you get your boner out of my face?”
He levels you with an even gaze. “Only if you get yours out of mine.”
Chan groans. “Seungmin, for the love of god, please just tell us who Jeongin wants so the other two of us can get the fuck out of here.”
Jisung’s face grows serious, and Seungmin lets out a long breath.
“He doesn’t know.” He lifts one shoulder in a shrug, even as your stomach plummets at the grave words. “You’ve all gotta go in there and see who his new omega responds to the most favorably.” Seungmin’s face darkens slightly. “But hurry up, because even if he doesn’t know it, he’s gonna need a knot, and soon.”
Chan nods resignedly. “All right. Do we get Changbin?”
“We can’t.” You immediately shake your head. “You know how Jinnie is in heat. He won’t let anyone else near him for the first twenty four hours.”
“Guess we’re the lucky Three Musketeers then.” Minho grunts, shoving himself up from the couch and offering you and Chan a hand. “C’mon Porthos and Aramis. Let’s get this over with.”
“How come you get to be Athos?” You grumble beneath your breath at the other alpha, but allow him to pull you to your feet regardless.
Minho arches a brow at you and gives you a look that brooks no argument as he pulls Chan to his feet as well.
“Because I said so. Now quit your whining and c’mon. Let’s go.”
********************
When you enter Jeongin’s bedroom, the first thing you’re hit with is the wave of scent.
It’s so thick you can taste it, warm and spicy on your tongue, saliva instantly pooling, teeth aching.
Your wolf is instantly pacing your insides, whining long and low, begging you to do something.
You clench your hands into fists at your side and glue yourself against the wall, because you’re not sure you can trust yourself to take another step.
Not yet.
Minho files in after you, his expression neutral, the only signal he’s taken notice of the new omega’s scent a slight flaring of his nostrils as he steps inside, leveling his gaze on the curled boy on the bed.
He crosses without hesitation, and crouches down beside Jeongin, careful not to disturb the carefully curated nest of blankets and pillows surrounding the omega, lining the edges of the small twin bed.
You admire his calm confidence, back hard against the wall.
“Hey, pup.” Minho says in a low, gentle voice, and Jeongin cracks open an eye, staring at Minho in slight confusion before recognition dawns on his features.
“Hyung?” He croaks out weakly, not moving from the fetal position, his arms curled around his middle.
His scent flares in response to Minho’s presence, and you grit your teeth, willing yourself to remain firmly in place.
Chan appears at your side, the last to come through the door, and you glance sidelong at him, noting the immediate change in his demeanor as the scent laden air washes over him.
His whole body stiffens, and you can see it, the alpha coming to life in the depths of his eyes, erasing the dark circle of his pupils as fiery gold washes in.
“Chan-” You start to say, not sure if you should reach out and touch him in his current state.
Minho reaches out to swipe a hand across the sweaty hair plastered to Jeongin’s forehead, and Chan growls, low and threatening in the back of his throat, the dangerous sound filling the room and making your every hair stand on end.
Minho glances over his shoulder at the other alpha, expression hard, lips pressed into a thin line.
“Christopher.” The name Minho always uses for your mate must snap him out of his alpha mindset for just a moment, because Chan is suddenly back, stumbling backward to plant his back firmly against the door beside your own, his eyes wide and dark, chest heaving, expression panicked.
A harsh wave of thunderstorm, so thick it threatens to choke you, rolls over the room.
This time, you reach out and lay a hand on his arm, and his frantic gaze snaps to your own.
“I can’t be here-” He chokes out, eyes flicking around the room, as if he’s looking for an escape route. He clutches at the fabric of his shirt covering his chest, as if his heart is pounding so hard he has to stop it from escaping. “-not with the two of you. Fuck, I need to go-”
Minho stands, slow and certain, staring Chan down.
Behind him, Jeongin whimpers.
“Do you want to rip my throat out, Christopher?” Minho asks so calmly, you have to double take on his words, his fingers pinching the skin of Chan’s wrist, his whole body stiff once more. “Rip it out for touching your little omega?”
Chan gulps, the sound loud in your ears.
“Minho, don’t.” You warn in a low voice, hand tightening to keep the alpha beside you in place.
Minho ignores you, cocking his head and arching a brow at Chan, completely relaxed.
“C’mon then. I won’t resist.” Minho smirks, baring his throat for Chan and going completely still.
Beside you, Chan freezes, and when you glance at him worriedly, his entire pupil is swallowed in a sea of roiling gold.
Minho snorts. “Oh? So you don’t care if I-”
He holds Chan’s gaze steadily, and reaches out to swipe a hand once more across the sweaty, pink skin of Jeongin’s flushed forehead.
A low growl emanates from Chan, and all of his muscles coil, as if he’s readying himself to pounce on the other alpha.
“Minho.” You repeat, harsher this time, and Minho finally looks at you. You stare him down. “Don’t.”
“I’m testing something, sweetheart.” Minho murmurs back, his gaze flicking back over to the other tense alpha practically vibrating beside you.
You have the silent thought that he could probably ‘test something’ when none of your lives are in danger, but you don’t say it out loud, choosing to keep a steadying hand on Chan instead.
“He’d just as soon rip your throat out too, you know.” Minho remarks, taking a step forward now, his searching gaze scanning Chan’s face. “Just because you’re his silly little moonmate or whatever Seungmin insists on calling it, it won’t stop him from turning on you with teeth bared if you so much as touch that omega currently on the bed, sweetheart.”
You glance to Jeongin, still curled into a ball, and then back to Chan, eyes wide, every breath a pant through his parted lips.
“Minho.” You try one more time, staring down the other alpha, who looks triumphant now. “Please stop.”
Thankfully, Minho listens to you this time, shrugging his shoulders easily, before he steps away from the bed and Jeongin and back toward the door.
Chan’s hackles slowly lower.
Minho smirks. “C’mon, sweetheart. I think I’ve proved my point.” He takes your hand off Chan’s arm and leads you around him to the door. “We’re not needed here.”
You stumble after him, still in a partial daze from Jeongin’s scent and Chan’s behavior, and let him pull you from the room, glancing over your shoulder as the door shuts behind you.
In the hallway, your head clears, and you’re whirling on Minho in an instant.
“What the fuck was that?” You demand angrily, the other alpha leaning against the wall and holding your gaze steadily, ignoring your obvious fury.
“What, you don’t know?” Minho inquires cockily, arching a brow, and you suddenly want to punch him in the face. He jerks his chin toward the room where you’d left Chan and Jeongin. “That, sweetheart, was a little test for Christopher, just to prove my theory right.”
You stare at him, something itching at the back of your brain, and Minho rolls his eyes at your silence and sighs, like he needs to walk you through it.
He pushes off the wall and closes the gap between you, reaching up to take your face in his hands and shake you a little.
“Sweetheart. Let me spell it out for you.” He slows down his words dramatically and you glare back at him, even as his lips curve upward into a smirk. “Christopher is a Head Alpha. More specifically, our Head Alpha.”
It clicks into place, and you remembered wondering, briefly, earlier.
You continue to stare, and Minho sighs again, releasing his hold on you.
You instantly miss the warmth of his skin and the sweet smell of bergamot in your nose.
You realize with a start that you’re still slightly riled from Jeongin’s overly strong scent, your wolf pacing restless, relentless heat slowly building beneath the surface of your skin.
“Minho.” You say as he turns to walk back to the living room, and he pauses, glancing over his shoulder at you with a raised brow.
The itch is growing, spreading over your body in prickling waves.
Staring at the full swell of Minho’s lips, bitten slightly between his sharp white teeth, is certainly not helping.
“Yes?” Minho goads, and you realize you’ve gotten lost in your own thoughts again.
You shake away the cobwebs and stare him down.
You can feel the gold creeping in, your alpha emerging.
You glance past his shoulder to the living room where the betas most likely wait, then back toward the spare room of Jeongin’s apartment.
Minho follows your gaze, and something predatory comes into his own.
“Oh?” You shrug a shoulder and take a step backward, toward the empty bedroom.
“I mean, they’ll expect us to be gone a bit longer-” Minho smirks dangerously, taking a step in your direction, and your pulse picks up, anticipating the game as the spicy scent of amber hits your nose.
“You’re absolutely right, sweetheart.” He purrs, taking another step as you take a step back to match, watching him warily.
His tongue darts out to wet his lips, making your core clench pitifully.  “And lucky for you, kitten, I’m in the mood to take my time.”

open fic requests
hiii baddies
I’m still feeling very unmotivated, but I wanted to try something new to get back into writing
✨fic request bingo✨
Tumblr media
so, anyone (following or not) can leave a comment or send me an ask for a short fic request. they’re going to be between 200 and 800 words, second person pov, and x reader only. aside from my guidelines (listed at the end), here are the rules:
choose an image from this ‘bingo card’ for the setting of the fic
request (nicely please 🥺) an idol and provide a short prompt for me (it doesn’t have to be directly related to the image you chose)
lmk what pronouns to use for the reader. if none are given I’m going to use she/her because it’s what I’m most used to writing
please let me know if you want sfw or nsfw, and for nsfw if the reader is amab or afab; I still don’t want minors interacting even if it’s a sfw request so PLEASE only request if you are 18 or older
poly relationship reqs are fine as well but no more than 2 idols x the reader because the word limit is going to be too constricting
will write:
💕 stray kids, nct dream, or (g)i-dle members
💕 any assigned sex reader (I prefer to write afab reader though and don’t have a lot of experience writing for amab reader)
💕 smut and most kinks
💕 any combo of dom/sub dynamics with idols
💕 hybrid au that’s not traditional a/b/o (aka my version of hybrids)
💕 slight angst, I prefer fluff and humour reqs
would prefer not to write:
💘 specific topics around transitioning (trans readers are very welcome but I don’t feel qualified to write in detail about body dysmorphia, gender affirming care, or any sort of comfort fic related to transitioning because I don’t want to generalize individual experiences and feelings that aren’t my own ❤️)
💘 self-harm
💘 eating disorders
💘 reqs for reader descriptions that are too specific (weight, skin colour, eye colour, etc., I try to be as vague as possible so more people can enjoy my fics)
will NOT write:
💔 for groups not listed in the ‘will write’ section
💔 gender-swapped idols
💔 substance abuse
💔 illness
💔 incest/stepcest
💔 age-gap/age-play/pedophilia
💔 cheating
💔 domestic violence/abuse
💔 noncon/dubcon
💔 urine/scat/vomit play
💔 anything I don’t want to write! you can ask, but I’m always free to decline without an explanation
if anyone else wants to use the image prompts go right ahead, I got them all from pinterest 🫶🏻
finished reqs:
💕 picture perfect (minnie x afab+fem!reader): #11, sfw, confession
💕 cloudburst (hyunjin x gn!reader): #4, sfw, caught in the rain with hyunjin, established relationship
💕 read me like a book (bangchan x fem!reader): #7, suggestive, bookstore meetcute with extra flirty chan, background hyunlix
reqs in queue:
none

Meeting up with Hyunjin usually felt like any other day. Byeoli always felt warm, safe, and content in his presence.
Tonight, however, something was off even though Byeoli couldn't tell what it was, she knew it had a very heavy effect on Hyunjin.
He wasn't his usual self, chatting away about his day or talking about anything and everything. He was quiet, almost as if he was thinking. She could see the way his brows furrowed with worry and the way he nibbled on his bottom lip, picking at the skin with his teeth. Byeoli had taken his hand, hoping to soothe him but that only seemed to make him more anxious.
When he had asked her to meet up with him, she'd expected they might just go for a walk and talk, like they usually did. Or perhaps they'd go see the light displays or just sit on the beach until whatever word vomit that was brewing in Hyunjin’s stomach finally made its way out.
The last thing she expected was to be taken out on a small motorboat in the middle of the ocean but that was where she currently was.
He'd been very deliberate in telling her he wanted to talk to her in person and what he wanted to talk about was anyone's guess. Knowing him, it could have been the simplest thing and he was blowing it out of proportion. The addition of the boat was odd.
And it made her nervous.
Byeoli glanced back nervously as the lights from the beach shrank in the distance as the boat zipped across the dark water before turning around, her attention on Hyunjin as he steered the propeller.
“Uh…” she said, voice cracking. She cleared her throat and tried again. “Are we going much further?” she asked, managing to catch Hyunjin’s attention. The smile he gave her was warm and reassuring. She would have felt at ease were they not still in a small motorboat out on the ocean.
“We’re almost there,” he replied, returning his focus to steering.
Byeoli turned to look over the vast blackness of the ocean to her right before looking up at the full moon. Had the water been more calm, she could have seen the reflection in the surface but they were moving too fast, skimming over the glassy surface.
She had no idea what Hyunjin needed to say to her and why he had chosen to take them out onto the ocean to do it. The anxiety balling in her stomach didn't help.
She trusted Hyunjin, right? Of course she did. If that was the case, then why was she feeling this way? Like something bad was about to happen. Her eyes fell on the man in question, steering the boat calmly further and further away from shore.
She noticed that the further from land they got, the calmer he seemed to become. Why was he so relaxed?
What was going on?
┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄
"Are you sure this plan will work?" Jamie asked Sungjin for what felt like the millionth time that night. He fought the urge to roll his eyes, yet again, before turning to face her. "For the last time, yes!"
The two were sitting in Sungjin’s car outside the storage facility. The entire drive there, they had bickered back and forth, trying to come up with a plan to get into the storage facility. Sungjin had suggested they distract Jisung and slip his key off him. Jamie assured him that was a horrible idea.
They already knew Hyunjin wasn’t human, they were about eighty-five percent sure Changbin wasn’t human, logic dictated that neither Minho nor Jisung were human either.
“We have no idea what sort of superhuman powers he might have,” Jamie hissed. “I think we should avoid him if at all possible,” she continued. Sungjin rolled his eyes for the nth time. “Will you chill out? This plan is foolproof.” Jamie shook her head. “You’re gonna get us killed,” she muttered. Sungjin scoffed, turning to face her in the passenger seat. “Do you have a better idea?” He asked, temper rising. Jamie looked around the car before looking out towards the office.
“I do, but let’s wait until they get here,” she said, looking out the windshield.
As if by some sort of summoning ritual, a car pulled into the parking lot and they both recognized it as Jisung’s. The jeep pulled to a stop, engine cutting and lights turning off. Sungjin and Jamie ducked down, peering over the dashboard as the driver’s door swung open and Jisung hopped out. He moved quickly, meeting a very sickly looking Changbin at the back of the jeep and opening the hatch. Jamie carefully lowered the window a crack.
“Come on,” they heard Jisung say as he helped unload the back. “We don’t have much time. We gotta get this over with,” he added. Jamie watched as Changbin shouldered the large duffle bag he pulled out, wincing in discomfort as he did so. Once the back was unloaded, Jisung closed the hatch. “Head to the unit, I’ll talk to the owner,” Jisung said. Changbin nodded wordlessly and started stalking away.
They watched as Jisung headed to the office and opened the door, the bell letting out a faint ding. Jamie turned to look at Sungjin, eyebrows raised. Sungjin mirrored her expression. “See?” He whispered. “I told you!” Jamie shushed him as the door opened with a ding and Jisung reemerged and headed towards the fence separating the units from the parking lot. He punched in the code and waited as the gate slowly slid open, darting through the gap once it was wide enough.
“Come on,” Sungjin said but Jamie grabbed his arm, preventing him from sitting up. “Not yet,” she whispered. Sungjin stared at her incredulously before leaning over to peer out his window at the moon as it was starting to rise above the horizon. “We have to wait for Jisung to leave,” she instructed. “What? Why?” He hissed in response. Jamie shook her head, pressing a finger to her lips.
It felt like only a few moments had passed, but the gate was already opening again. Jisung slipped through the gap, heading back to the jeep and got into the driver’s seat. The car started and the duo waited for Jisung to turn around and exit the complex. “Get down!” Jamie hissed, ducking further down and out of sight. Sungjin had only a moment to react and he too slid down in his seat, disappearing from view as the Jeep drove past them.
The crunching of gravel under tires grew faint as he drove away and soon, all was silent again. Sungjin dared to peek and let out a sigh of relief when he saw the lot was empty again. “Come on,” he said, pulling himself upright in his seat. Jamie sat up quickly, scanning the lot before she grabbed her bag and fished out her wallet and phone. “Alright,” she said softly. “Let’s go.”
Opening her door, Jamie climbed out of Sungjin’s car, shutting the door softly behind her as Sungjin emerged from the driver’s side. “So what’s your grand plan?” He asked, following her to the office. “I swear to god Jamie Park,” he said in a low tone as they reached the door. She shushed him again and whispered “follow my lead.”
Inside the office was as Sungjin remembered it. A tall counter separated the small lobby from the back area. The surface of the counter was mostly clean but one small section was dedicated to many different business owners cards, advertising their various services. The same elderly man appeared from the doorway behind the counter, eyes cautious until he caught sight of Sungjin.
“Oh, Bob!” He said pleasantly and Sungjin had to pinch Jamie to keep her from commenting. She however approached the counter with a smile. “Hey, Len,” Sungjin replied, trying to keep the conversation light. “This is my—” he started, gesturing to Jamie. “Sister,” she interjected. “I’m his sister, Jamie,” she continued, oozing confidence. If Len had been suspicious before, he certainly wasn’t now.
“Lovely to meet you, Jamie,” he said with a kind smile. “What can I do for you?” He asked, looking between the two. Sungjin’s heart hammered in his chest as he waited with baited breath to see what fantastical story Jamie would concoct. He was pleasantly surprised but the words that left her mouth.
“I’m so sorry to barge in here this late,” she said, leaning against the counter, putting on a very convincing act.
“But this idiot,” she said, gesturing towards Sungjin, even giving his arm a slap for good measure. “He misplaced his unit lock key! We’ve tried looking everywhere for it but we couldn’t find it and I need to get into his unit to get some of my things,” she continued. “I’m fully moved into my apartment, thank god! And being the sweet, but boneheaded,” at this, Jamie offered Sungjin a playful glare. She was really selling this story.
“Brother that he is, he offered to hold a few of my boxes until I had space!” Len nodded, following Jamie’s every word. “That sounds like Bob,” he said fondly, giving Sungjin a smile. “I wish I could help,” he continued, shaking his head. “But I don’t have copies of the lock keys,” he added. Jamie smiled understandingly.
“That’s okay! I was hoping you might have some bolt cutters instead?” She asked, sweetly. “We brought a new lock with us. One that I have a copy of the key to,” she continued, throwing another glance in Sungjin’s direction. At the mention of bolt cutters, Len turned his attention to Sungjin. “Are you sure?” He asked. Sungjin nodded, trying to keep things as casual as possible.
“Yeah, it’s my fault,” Sungjin responded. “I misplaced both keys and we’ve spent most of the day turning my apartment upside down trying to find them,” he added, rubbing the back of his neck. Len nodded and held up a finger, asking them to wait for a moment. He disappeared through the doorway, giving Sungjin and Jamie a moment alone. “You know,” Sungjin whispered, leaning closer to Jamie.
“You play the role of annoying little sister surprisingly well.” Jamie scrunched her nose. “Oh fuck you,” she hissed.
Moments later, Len reappeared with a large pair of bolt cutters. Jamie smiled, exaggerating the wave of relief just a little bit. “Oh thank god,” she said with a chuckle. “Do we need to sign them out or do you want to come with us?” She asked. Sungjin tried not to slap her upside the head. What was she thinking?!
Len offered a kind smile. “Oh no,” he shook his head. “Just take them and bring them back when you’re done,” he said, setting the bolt cutters on the counter. Jamie picked them up and shoved them at Sungjin, who took them silently. “We’ll be right back,” Jamie said with a kind smile of her own.
She turned around and led Sungjin out of the office and towards the gate where Sungjin put in his access code. “You almost got us caught!” He hissed as the gate slid open slowly. Jamie rolled her eyes and raised her hand as if to hit him. “‘You almost got us caught!’” She said, mockingly. “No I didn’t. If anything, he trusts us even more now,” she said as she stepped through the open gate. Sungjin followed, keeping pace with her.
“Now, let’s find that unit.”
┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄
Byeoli looked around as the boat started to slow. Her eyes fell on Hyunjin, wondering what was going through his mind as he steered the boat towards a small buoy. Once close enough, he cut the engine and allowed the boat to drift towards the marker.
Byeoli watched as he grabbed a rope and once they were closer, he reached out and grabbed the old, rusted metal of the buoy, slipping the rope around the bars and tied a simple knot, effectively securing the boat to the buoy.
Byeoli’s heart raced, breathing quickening as she looked around. She could barely make out Haeundae beach in the distance before turning to face Hyunjin.
With only the silvery glow of the full moon and the stars for light, she could see his face as he moved to sit across from her. She felt his hands take hers gently and she looked down before looking back up to meet his gaze.
“I know you’ve probably got a million questions going through your mind right now,” Hyunjin said softly, eyes scanning her face. “And I’m sure you’re more than nervous, if not a little suspicious,” he continued. Byeoli nodded slowly, heart still racing as he spoke.
“Why are we out so far?” She asked, voice much quieter than she intended. Hyunjin sighed, letting his head drop for a brief moment before looking back up. “I told you I wanted to talk,” he said, reminding her of when they met outside the building earlier after texting her to meet up with him.
Byeoli nodded, nibbling on her bottom lip nervously.
“Well, that’s partly true. I do want to talk to you about something, but I also need to show you something,” Hyunjin explained. His words just made Byeoli even more confused. “But why are we out here so far?” She asked again. Hyunjin released one of her hands, reaching up to tuck a stray strand of hair behind her ear before caressing her cheek. “Just promise me you’ll keep an open mind?” He asked softly, his eyes seeming to sparkle in the starlight.
Slowly, Byeoli examined Hyunjin’s face. She saw no sign of dishonesty or deception. She nodded again and waited for Hyunjin to begin explaining.
“Before anything, I want to you know that what I’m about to tell and show you is nothing but the honest truth,” he started. Taking her silence as a sign to continue, Hyunjin pulled his hands away. “I brought you out here because this is the only place where no one else can see us,” he explained, hands moving to unzip his jacket and slip it off, letting it fall to the bottom of the boat. Byeoli’s eyes widened, looking up at him quickly.
Sensing her panic, Hyunjin shook his head. “Don’t worry,” he added. “Just trust me, okay?” He asked.
Did she trust him? She had no reason not to, even if he had brought her miles out into the ocean in the middle of the night. He’d never done anything to cause her to mistrust him before.
She watched as he slowly started to unbutton his shirt, letting it also slide off and join his jacket. “I know this is probably extremely weird, maybe even concerning,” he continued, standing up and Byeoli had to force herself to look up at his face and not his crotch that was level with her eyes.
Keeping her gaze on his face, the amount of eye contact was causing her cheeks to burn as Hyunjin unbuckled his belt and started to undo his pants. ‘What the fuck is going on?’
Before pushing his pants down, Hyunjin grabbed the back of the collar of the white tee he was wearing and pulled it off over his head, adding it to the growing pile of clothes in the bottom of the boat. Byeoli’s face was most likely the darkest shade of red as she turned her head to look away while Hyunjin pulled down not only his pants but his underwear. She shielded her eyes and was about to ask what he was doing when the boat swayed and she heard a loud splash next to her.
Turning her head, she saw Hyunjin was gone. She leaned over the edge of the boat and gasped as Hyunjin reemerged, just barely poking his head out of the black water, eyes peering up at her. “Are you insane!?” She cried out, looking around frantically and spotting a towel.
“Get back in the boat! It must be freezing!” She squealed. Her reaction caused Hyunjin to laugh, his eyes turning into crescents as he smiled at her. “You’re so cute,” he responded. ‘Cute? Cute?!’ Byeoli shook her head, reaching over to grab the towel. “Hwang Hyunjin! You get back in this boat right now before—” she started.
“Before what?” Hyunjin asked playfully, starting to swim to the side. Byeoli furrowed her brow in frustration at him. Surely he must be freezing. It was the end of autumn and the chill of winter was beginning to set in, especially this late in the night. “You gonna come in after me?” Hyunjin asked, tone still playful as he continued to swim sideways.
Byeoli opened her mouth to respond but something in the water caught her eye. Something scaly and huge.
“Hyunjin! Look out!”
Hyunjin let out another laugh. Byeoli frowned at him.
“There’s something in the water!” She shouted, pointing to where she saw the flash of scales. Hyunjin gave her a sly grin and Byeoli watched as the flash of scales she’d seen before reappeared in the water next to Hyunjin. “This?” He asked, nodding towards it.
Byeoli nodded, wondering what kind of creature was in the water with him and why he wasn’t freaking out.
Hyunjin dove under the surface and that’s when Byeoli noticed it.
The shimmery scales were attached to him.
They were… part of him.
The scales disappeared only for Hyunjin to reappear on the other side of the boat. Byeoli rushed to the opposite side as he swam closer to the edge of the boat. “What is going on?” She asked as he reached up to grab the side of the boat and pull himself up out of the water, resting his arms on the side of the boat.
Byeoli’s eyes trailed down his body, passing the toned muscles to where his skin blended into scales, blues, greens, and purples shimmering in the silver light of the moon. His legs had turned into a tail.
“This is what I wanted to show you,” he said softly, eyes scanning her face. Byeoli tore her eyes from Hyunjin’s tail to look up at his face, meeting his expectant gaze. His eyes conveyed his vulnerability.
He was showing her one of the most secret parts of his identity. Showing her the truth about himself. He needed to know what was going through her mind.
Byeoli leaned forward, face inches from his. “So you’re a… merman?” She asked quietly. Hyunjin noticed a smile fighting to form on her face. “A siren,” he corrected. “Mermen are ugly,” he added. Byeoli let out a laugh, falling back on her heels as she kneeled in the boat to be on his level.
Feeling like a weight had been lifted from his shoulders, he finally allowed himself to breathe properly, smiling and watching Byeoli as she doubled over in laughter. “Then you definitely aren’t a merman,” she finally said leaning forward to rest her arms on the side of the boat next to him, laying her head to the side so she could look at him. “So…” she trailed off.
“I think you have some explaining to do,” she finally said.

What Edmund wants, Edmund gets.
That’s what he thought at first. Living with parents wealth, he could get away with anything and gets everything handed to him in silver platter. Although it didn’t last long before his parents sent him alongside his brother to a boarding school. Shock and baffled was his first initial reaction especially with how other people look at him with eyes of anger and jealousy. Soon enough, he became an easy target to get bullied on.
Edmund has tried to talk to the principal and his parents about the bullying he’s been facing, but, none of them appreciate his tone and should just grow to understand the boarding school’s tradition of welcoming new students. Before he knew it, Edmund and Edward became the victims of abuse from the other students, giving an unhealed scar for life. The abuse goes in lots of ways which Edmund still has troubles talking about—it keeps him awake at night sometimes.
When he sees Edward graduating first, he held an intense emotion knowing he will have to face this alone now. The rest of his school years he spent it feeling lost and unsure, not knowing who is on his side anymore. The usual cheerful Edmund has been long gone.
He spent the rest of the school year feeling lost and isolated within the school walls, the abuse he has been receiving has gone over the limit, the physical visible scars he can handle but the mental scars left him bleeding inward. The letters that his family promised to write never even arrived, leading him to believe that it’s just all of their sweet nothings to keep him sane inside the mental asylum. They left him in ruins.
It was only years later when he graduated that hell of a school, his father didn’t bother to look at him and just ordered him to get him all fixed up. The visible scars soon covered with the help of technologies he can’t pronounce but when he sees his older brother while he was studying to take over the company, it’s all worth it.
With eyes filled with anger and agony, the siblings talk about a plan—a plan of revenge, a plan of freedom.

The (almost) Perfect Date
Tumblr media
Pairing: Hwang Hyunjin x F!reader
Genre: fluff
Summary: Due to his busy schedule, you and Hyunjin weren't having enough time to spend together. To change that, Hyunjin planned out the perfect date for you, too bad you were extremely sick and refused to tell him.
Warning: some swearing and mentions of vomiting.
Words: 3.5k
Author's Note: Hey guys, Happy New Year!! I've been a little busy with my new job, but here's something I wrote over this holiday. I hope you like it!
Tumblr media
Hyunjin missed you.
With countless rehearsals and recordings stretching on for hours, Hyunjin was so busy that he barely had time to see you in person. The fact that you were also occupied with your part-time job and college didn't make things any easier.
Nonetheless, even with all those obstacles in the way, both of you tried your best to exchange at least a few messages through the day, even if it was only a simple 'good morning' or 'how are you?' text. On a good day, you were able to talk by video call, but, most of the time, Hyunjin was so tired that he could barely keep his eyes open for five minutes.
Hyunjin hated this.
His heart sank in his chest every time he was forced to cancel a date with you at the last minute. Guilt chewed him inside, but there was nothing he could do about it. He felt like he wasn't having enough time for you, and that was totally unacceptable to him.
He wasn't dumb. He saw how much his career affected you, even though you denied it, saying you understood the trials that came with dating him and that you were okay with it. But it wasn't okay. At least not for him. The blunt truth is that Hyunjin feared the moment you would realize he wasn't worth all the work. That he wasn't good enough for you.
You were an angel in his life. Always so kind and understanding, willing to listen and support him without thinking twice. You were there in his most difficult times, helping him see the light amid so much darkness.
And that's why he planned out the best and most perfect date ever as soon as he managed to find time in his hectic schedule.
He already had everything planned out down to the smallest detail. He would take you to see the new movie you were dying to see with your favorite actor, but first, you would have dinner at the restaurant you used to frequent.
After that, you'd walk around the city, exploring places you never visited before. He'd take the opportunity to give you little presents, buying everything and anything that caught your attention at the stores on your way. Lastly, he'd take you to stargaze, where you would spend the rest of the night just enjoying each other's presence.
And that's why you did what you did. Knowing how excited Hyunjin was with your date, you didn't find the courage to tell him how extremely sick you were.
A couple of days ago, you lost track of time while studying at the library, not realizing it had started to rain outside and how late it was. To increase your bad luck, your phone had run out of battery. Without being able to call an Uber, you got home after half an hour, soaked and shaking like an angry pinscher.
And now, you felt as if you had been run over by a fucking train.
You got rid of the two thick blankets that covered your body and got out of bed to fix the mess that was your hair. Your body vehemently protested with every move you made, sending a burning pain through all your limbs. Even breathing hurt at that point.
You took longer than usual to get ready because hiding the paleness of your face and the deep dark circles under your eyes wasn't an easy task. If there was a prize for whoever looked more like Samara, the girl from The Ring movie, you would surely win without a doubt.
The big problem was, Hyunjin knew you better than anyone. If he suspected you weren't okay, he'd call off the date immediately and force you to spend the rest of the night trapped in your bed.
You refused with all your might to let that happen. This was important to Hyunjin, this was important to you, and you wouldn't ruin it even if pigs started flying.
The ringing of the doorbell echoed through your apartment, making you grunt. Your stomach churned, but you took a deep breath, holding back the urge to puke your organs out of your body.
"Hi!" You said a little breathlessly when you opened the door and saw Hyunjin standing there with all his surreal beauty. You still had a hard time believing he was yours.
"Hi, gorgeous. This is for you!" Hyunjin softly said, handing you a bouquet of red roses.
Your lips stretched into a smile, but the strong scent of the roses invaded your nose, making you sneeze.
"Are you okay?" He asked, confused.
"Couldn't be better!" You smiled. "They're beautiful, Hyun.”
"Said the girl who looks like a work of art." He said sweetly, wrapping his long arms around your waist.
You felt your cheeks heat up.
"Stop it! You're making me shy."
"So my plan is working." He winked before leaning in, bringing your lips together in a gentle kiss.
You missed his kisses so much. There was something about Hyunjin that always made you feel intoxicated, yearning for more of his soft caresses and sweet touch. But your brain quickly cleared as you remembered how sick you were. Shit!
You put your hands on his chest and abruptly pushed him away, making Hyunjin look at you in confusion. A little pout still on his pink lips.
"Hum, I think we should go." You nervously said. He gave you a suspicious look, making you start to say the first thing that popped into your head. “You made a reservation at the restaurant, didn't you? You know how strict they are with punctuality. We can't be late.”
"They know me. I'm sure they won't mind if we're a little late." Hyunjin smiled, leaning in your direction again.
You needed to think fast.
You bent down and dodged his arms, walking fast towards the kitchen. "I better put the flowers in the water before they wither."
You filled a glass with water and placed the flowers, trying to ignore the piercing look Hyunjin was giving you.
"Shall we go?"
He shook his head, "No. I still haven't got my kiss!"
“Don't be a baby. We’re already late." You took his hand, leading him towards the building's elevator.
"Y/n!" He groaned in protest.
"We'll have plenty of time for this later."
"You promise?" He asked hopefully, lips forming a small pout.
"Yes, I promise."
"Okay. But how about a quick peck?”
“No, Hyunjin.”
The ride to the restaurant was pleasant at first. You talked about your week, catching up with what was happening in your daily life. Hyunjin told you about how Jisung ran into a glass door after laughing at Felix for doing the same thing. That made you laugh out loud, something you hadn't done in a while.
Everything was perfect. You already felt better just by being in the comforting presence of your boyfriend. Yet, fate liked to play tricks when you least expected it.
Everything went downhill when Hyunjin made a sharp turn that made your nausea come back ten times worse. At every turn, your stomach twisted unpleasantly, but you struggled to cover it up and continue the conversation.
Hyunjin was beaming, his eyes shone brighter than the stars themselves, and a smile seemed to be glued at the corner of his lips. There's no way in hell you would spoil that.
"I asked them to prepare your favorite dish!" Hyunjin excitedly stated as you sat at the restaurant table.
You grimace. Well, let's just say your favorite dish wasn't really that recommended by nutritionists since the amount of fried food in it could be seen as a crime against health.
You tried to recover from your little slip, but it was already too late. Hyunjin widened his eyes and rushed to say, “But if you want to order something else, it's okay, seriously. I'm sorry, I thought you might want it. You always order the same thing, and I wanted to surprise you."
"Hyunjin, it's fine."
"Really?" He questioned, staring at you with his innocent eyes, looking like a child afraid to be scolded by his mother.
“Of course, baby. It was very kind of you.” You caressed his hand that rested on the table, trying to soothe him.
He smiled with a twinkle in his eyes, "Anything for you, my love."
You forced a smile to your lips, hoping he wouldn't notice the cold sweat on your forehead. A shiver shook your body.
"Are you cold?" Hyunjin asked, concerned. "Sorry, I should have chosen a table further away from the air-conditioning."
You tried to protest, but in a matter of seconds Hyunjin was at your side, wrapping his coat around your body. He leaned his head and placed a kiss on your forehead, but he quickly pulled away, frowning.
"Gorgeous, you're hot." He pointed, making your body petrify.
Holy crap!
The effect of the medicine you took in the afternoon should be wearing off. In your zombie state, you had completely forgotten to take another pill before leaving your house.
"I'm always hot, baby." You forced a laugh, hoping your lame excuse would work by some miracle.
“Yeah, I agree with that. But I'm not talking about this."
Thank God, Hyunjin was interrupted by the arrival of the food. He grudgingly pulled away from you, sitting back in his seat, yet not even for a second diverting his watchful gaze from you.
"Thanks." You said when the waiter finished serving the last dish.
“Y/n-” Hyunjin started, but you cut him off.
“Ow, this looks so good! I'm starving, aren't you? Let's eat before the food gets cold.”
Out of desperation, you cut off a large piece of meat and brought it to your mouth, despite the fierce protests of your belly. The food instantly made your empty stomach lurch, causing your vision to blur slightly. Points of light seemed to be dancing in front of your eyes.
"Sorry. I think I need to go to the restroom.” You babbled.
Distraught, you covered your mouth and nearly ran towards the toilet. You heard Hyunjin calling your name and felt people's eyes on you, but, for the moment, you decided to worry only about not throwing up in the middle of the restaurant.
Without thinking twice, Hyunjin placed his napkin on the table and followed you. He was so worried that he almost walked straight into the ladies' restroom, but the death glare he received from an old lady was enough to make him back off.
So he rested his head on the cool tile and took a deep breath, waiting impatiently for you.
What the hell had happened? You looked good seconds ago. What had he missed? He ran the last hour over and over in his head, trying to find some clue, some sign that would explain what was happening.
The sneeze at the smell of the flowers, the discomfort on your face while he was driving, your reaction to the food… Oh crap!
He rushed to you as soon as you left the restroom.
"Love, are you okay? What happened?"
Seeing the distress in Hyunjin's eyes hit you like a sack of bricks. There went the perfect date.
“I'm alright, Hyun. Let’s go back to the table." You said, trying to sound as convincing as possible.
"Please, don't lie to me. You're so pale… and your hands are shaking! You threw up, didn't you?"
Lying to him was totally useless at that point. So you just nodded slightly.
To your surprise, Hyunjin let out a gasp, quickly covering his mouth with his hands. His eyes were wide open, and, if that was even possible, he looked paler than you.
"Oh my God. You're pregnant!" He blurted out.
"What?" You exclaimed.
Hyunjin gripped your shoulders, staring deeply into your eyes before enveloping your body in a tight hug.
“It's going to be okay, my love. I swear. We'll figure it out. I'll be by your side every step of the way, I give you my word. I'm here with you. I got you."
"Hyunjin!" You exclaimed, struggling to pull away from his bear hug. "I'm not pregnant."
"Are you sure?" He stared at you, suspicious.
“What do you mean with that? Of course, I'm sure! Why the hell do you think I'm pregnant?”
"Well..." He scratched his neck, suddenly shy. “In movies, whenever a woman starts vomiting, it always means she is pregnant. And you were so sensitive to smells. So... I don't know… I thought you were pregnant.”
You tried to control yourself so you wouldn't hurt his feelings, but you couldn't help but laugh at it.
However, your fit of laughter was soon replaced by a fit of coughing. You coughed so hard that you felt the air rush out of your lungs, making your knees weaken. Terrified, Hyunjin wrapped an arm around your shoulders, supporting you.
"Baby, I can assure you hundred percent that I'm not pregnant." You teased him, trying to ignore the taste of bile in your mouth.
"You’re sick!" He said in awe as if he had just discovered a new country.
“Yep. I got caught in the rain a few days ago.” You explained.
"Why didn't you call me?" He scolded you.
"My phone died."
"That's no excuse! You could have borrowed the library phone or made a smoke signal-"
"Baby, I don't think a smoke signal would be very useful on a rainy day." You said, trying hard not to laugh again. He was just so cute.
"Stop being so smart, you know what I mean."
"Yes, I know. Sorry."
"Fuck! I should have realized this sooner. Why didn't you tell me anything? We wouldn't have left your house if you had told me! God, I'm so sorry, I-”
"Hey, it's okay." You interrupt him, cupping his cheeks. He was looking at you seriously, eyes clouded with worry. "It was my fault. I didn't want to ruin this night.”
Hyunjin closed his eyes, letting out a deep sigh. He would have a serious talk with you about this, but his priority right now was to take you home. "Let's go."
"Where?"
"Home."
"But-"
"No buts." He argued. "We're going home, young lady."
“No, Hyunjin.” You said desperately, trying to break free from his arms. Your worst nightmare was coming true right in front of your eyes. “We barely ate anything. And the movie? I know you already bought the tickets! We can't go home now.”
"My love, listen to me." He said firmly yet gently, cupping your cheeks with his big hands, making you have no choice but to look at his eyes. “None of that matters, okay? What I'm worried about right now is with you and your health.”
Without giving you time to protest, Hyunjin pulled you by the hand towards the exit, only stopping on the way to explain the situation to a waiter. Within minutes you were in his car again, leaning your head against the window, hoping the cold glass would help with your headache.
The drive home was silent. Hyunjin drove as carefully as possible to not make your nausea worse. You notice he was biting the corner of his lip, something he only did when his head was far away, lost in thought. But he kept a firm hand on your knee, absently stroking random patterns on your skin.
"Can you walk?" He suddenly asked as he stopped in front of your apartment.
Before you could answer, he got out of the car and opened the passenger door, scooping you gently into his arms in bridal style.
“Hey! Put me down, I can walk. If you haven't forgotten, I'm not nine months pregnant! I’m just sick."
“I prefer not to risk it. You almost fainted at the restaurant.” His face was serious as he carried you to the elevator.
"You're exaggerating. I was just a little dizzy! Really, you don't have to do this.”
"Shii, stop being so stubborn." He replied, shaking his head. "Let me be your boyfriend and take care of you."
Seeing that you had no chance of winning against him, you just closed your eyes and rested your head on his shoulder. It didn't take long for you to be back in your bed, properly changed in a pair of sweats and with your teeth brushed.
"I'll make you something to eat." He informed after making sure you were comfortable.
You protested, grabbing his arm and pulling him back to bed. "No, just stay here with me."
“I promise I'll cuddle you for as long as you want, my love. But you need to eat something first. You look so weak… I-I wonder how I didn't notice this before.” He said sadly, almost whispering the last part.
Your heart squeezed in your chest.
"It's not your fault. I didn't want you to know I was sick... I know how hard you planned everything, and I didn't want to screw it up.” You said bitterly. “But in the end, I only managed to make things worse.”
He held your hands gently, as if you were a fragile piece of crystal, adorably staring at you. “You didn't screw anything. I understand your side, but you should have told me the truth.”
"It's just… We barely get to spend time together, and you were so excited… I miss you so much, Hyun.”
Hyunjin felt like crying seeing you so vulnerable and fragile like that. But he swallowed his tears and tried his best to reassure you.
"I miss you too, my love. But please, never do that again. You're more important than any restaurant or theater. Your health and your comfort will always come first to me.” He brought your hands to his lips, placing little kisses on your fingers. “Sorry for being a bad boyfriend and not realizing you were sick."
"Hey, you're not a bad boyfriend!"
He shook his head in denial. "I was too focused on making sure everything came out perfect. I think I wanted to prove to myself that I was worthy of being with someone like you."
'Hyunjin..." You muttered, feeling a little lost. You had no idea he felt that way.
"Sorry, I know this is silly."
"What? No, no. This is far from silly, baby. I want you to know that your feelings are totally valid and that you can share them with me anytime. I'll always be here to listen to you and make sure these negative thoughts don't play tricks on that beautiful brain of yours.”
You approached him, wrapping him in a tight hug.
“I love you, Hwang Hyunjin.” You whispered in his ear. “You have no idea how special you are. Personally, I think I'm so lucky to have been given the chance to meet you and see up close this beautiful person that you are. It probably going to sound a little cheesy, but you're my soulmate. You filled a space in my life that I didn't even know was missing. You're worth it, and I hope with all my heart that I never lose you.”
"You're going to make me cry like that." He pulled away, dramatically fanning his face with his hands.
"Here I am declaring my love for you, and you being a drama queen." You said, rolling your eyes.
“You know I love you too, gorgeous. More than all the stars in the sky.”
He gently caressed your cheek, looking at you with so much love that made your heart flutter in your chest. He slowly leaned for a kiss, but you turned your head quickly, making him kiss your cheek.
He whined. "Y/n!"
“I'm sick, forgot? So no kissing for you, sir.”
"This is so unfair!"
"Chan would kill me if I let you get sick with the performances just around the corner."
“Forget that, I'll deal with it later. Now give me at least a little kiss.”
You pushed him away, warning him, "Hyunjin!"
"All right! You won. Happy?" He raised his arms in a sigh of surrender. “Can I at least check your temperature?"
You nodded, allowing him to come closer. He calmly brought his hand up to your forehead, but before you could realize what was happening, you felt Hyunjin's plump lips touch yours in a quick kiss.
“Hwang Hyunjin!” You yelled as he quickly walked away.
“Stay right here. Don't move a muscle. I'll prepare something tasty for you to eat and get some medicine. I won't allow my soulmate to be sick like that.” He blew you a kiss, smiling teasingly. “Oh and Y/n, just so you know. You'll never lose me. I’m totally yours, my love.”
You rolled your eyes, trying to hide the blush creeping up on your cheeks. "Don't set the house on fire!"
"I'll try my best."
When he left, you leaned back on the bed, lightly touching your lips with your fingertips, not even trying to hide the silly smile present on your face.

Did you just ask me out on live stream? [Yang Jeongin]
Fandom: Stray Kids
Pairing: [Jeongin x GN! Reader]
Warnings: none!
Requested by: @stupendousfriendcalzonehands Thanks for the request! Let me know what you think~
Prompts: "After how many ½ inches does it become a date?” “Did you say you knew how to do this?”
Tumblr media
It started as a bet. You and Jeongin couldn’t keep up a weekly podcast for more than 2 months. The way Han phrased it, you could just do it on YouTube and in your dorms, but no, you were fueled by spite and somehow convinced your professor to allow you, Jeongin, and Hyunjin to live stream from the university’s audio studio.
Two months later and you had a small following, so you just continued. Much to Han’s shock.
“On to the final part of the show,” you spoke into your microphone as you scrolled through the outline, “answering your questions!” you let out a snort, “I don’t know why you guys keep asking us for advice. The other day Jeongin tried to joust Seungmin with an icicle.”
“And I won!” your partner declared gleefully with a wide grin.
“Mmm, debatable,” you teased, much to Jeongin’s chagrin, effectively wiping his face of the smile. “He only claims he won because Seungmin’s icicle broke first.”
“Yeah! That’s how it works!”
“But he hit you with it before you broke it!”
Jeongin threw his arms up in frustration, “this isn’t fencing!” From beyond the glass, you saw Hyunjin shaking his head in tired resignation as the two of you deviated from the script yet again and couldn’t help but giggle. “Deal with it Hyunjin,” Jeongin whispered into the mic when he saw what you were giggling at, causing your laughs to escalate. Hyunjin glared at the two of you and Jeongin put his hands up in surrender, “okay okay, actually onto the questions now. Which were chosen by our dear Hyunjin," he mocked with faux sincerity before an evil grin grew on his face, "so if this becomes boring blame him.”
Hyunjin looked like he was going to enter the recording booth and whack the two of you over the head with the rolled-up outline in his hand as his mouth was open in a muffled yell.
“Before Hyunjin takes us off the air, let’s answer some of your questions!” for the third time you tried to continue with what you were supposed to be doing. “This one’s from John. Hey (y/n) and Jeongin! There’s someone who I really like and I want to ask them out on a date. We’ve been getting dinner together, but I don’t think either of us really classify it as a date. It’s mostly been under the pretense of ‘I’m starving, you’re here, let’s go.’ How can I make that leap into asking them on a date versus a friendly get-together? Thanks for the help!” there was a pause of silence as the two of you tried to think of a response, “no offense John, but you’re asking the wrong people. I’ve never been on a date,” you side-eyed Hyunjin for him letting this question pass, “and Jeongin-”
“I’ve been in the same position.”
“What?” you shrieked and the three of you winced as you heard your loud voice through your headphones.
“Warning for headphone users.” Your dark-haired friend mumbled under his breath and took off his headphones to rub at his ear.
“Hold up, when was this?” you looked at Jeongin in bewilderment. The two of you were best friends, and this was a new development for you. You had never heard of Jeongin crushing after someone. Granted, you had only known each other for about 3 years, since the two of you started university, but with the number of late-night ramblings and how often the two of you are together, it could’ve come up.
Jeongin merely shrugged. “I totally understand you, John, it’s difficult, but here’s what I did.” You nodded your head to allow Jeongin to continue, seeing as you had no way to help. “It’s hard to tell from your letter, but how close are the two of you? I got closer and closer to the person who I liked. It developed from ‘hey you’re in the same class as me,’ to something more. It became late-night shenanigans, staying up late talking about anything and everything, watching movies, and of course, doing homework together. Though, to be real, we suck at doing homework when we’re together.” He added with a laugh.
There was a pleasant smile on his face as he reminisced this person, he looked genuinely at peace, and it surprised you. Whoever this person was, they made a big impact on Jeongin’s life. It was strange that you never heard of this person, besides, Jeongin seemed to have had some closure with this person. Did it end badly? Is that why you never knew of this enigma? But he looked so happy? It kind of hurt. This person was so pivotal in his life and yet he hid it all from you. Maybe you weren’t as close as you thought. “Half inch by half inch, we became closer.” There was a definitive look on his face as he gave a nod, seemingly happy with his answer.
You, on the other hand, were a little more unconvinced. That couldn’t be the end of the story. Maybe you were a little more miffed because this was news to you, or maybe the reporter in you was finally coming out and wanting to know the conclusion. Either way, there was a bit of an edge to your voice as you asked, “okay, so after how many ½ inches does it become a date?” you turned the conversation back to John’s question, “John seems to already be friends, he just wants to take this person on a date.”
Jeongin let out a scoff and rolled his eyes at you, “it’s not linear.”
There was a pause and when it seemed like Jeongin wasn’t going to speak up again, you continued your dubious proddings, “did you say you knew how to do this?” there was an offended shout from Jeongin and he kicked you from under the table to elicit a startled yelp from you.
“I hope none of our listeners are using headphones.” Jeongin shook his head in empathy, “because my ears burn.”
“You’re the one who kicked me!”
Jeongin childishly stuck his tongue out at you, “things will work out John. I’m sure the more you get to know them the more things will fall into place.” He reassured, though you weren’t feeling reassured, and you figured John probably wasn’t either.
“Did you ever ask your person out on a date?” you asked, still wanting to get closure for your story, seeing as Jeongin wasn’t keen on providing it.
His face reddened and you resisted the urge to crow teasingly at him, “not yet.” He mumbled into the mic, but it was loud enough for you to hear with your headphones.
You leaned back in your chair to get away from the mic and let out a screech, “you don’t know what you’re talking about either!”
“You were just going to write off John’s letter! I couldn’t let you do that.” He protested with his face still red and his gaze averted.
“Ask them out John!” you took matters into your hands seeing as Jeongin was clumsier with love than you were. Hyunjin sure picked the wrong question this time. “There’s no time like the present. Don’t twist one of your normal dinners into a date, specifically plan it. Ask them if they want to go on a date at some other time than what the two of you normally do. The worst that could happen is they say no.”
“That’s mortifying! I could never do that!” the aghast look on Jeongin’s face did little to make you feel guilty.
“That’s why you never asked out your person on a date.” The hurt look that fell on his face did though. “Oh no, I’m sorry.” The chaotic atmosphere that filled the recording booth stilled and you went over to hug your friend, “I didn’t mean to hurt you.”
“No, you’re right.” He continued in a quiet voice, “I guess I got too scared to do anything, so I decided things were perfectly all right the way they were, even if I wish it was different.”
You smoothed his hair down absentmindedly from your awkward standing position and his sitting position, “relationships are scary. I think you, and John, are valid to be scared.”
“But you’re also right, there’s no time like the present.”
You let out a quiet laugh, “and in the end, neither of us was able to help John.”
“Maybe this will,” you pulled away from Jeongin in confusion so you could look at his face. There was a nervous look settled on his face and he refused to look anywhere close to you, “do you want to go on a date later?”
Your jaw probably dropped comically as you looked at him in bewilderment, “wait-are you-did you-?” did he ask what you think he did? Did he just ask you out? On-air? Was that buzzing in your ear from your headphones? Was this a setup from Hyunjin? Was Jeongin John? Somehow, even as your mind was racing a hundred miles a minute, the terrified look on Jeongin’s face was able to clear through the mess and register in your mind. You took a deep breath to stop your word vomit, “yeah.” You smiled, “let’s go on a date. Maybe a dinner date?”
The terrified look immediately washed away and was replaced with a relieved look, “that sounds great.”
Hyunjin’s yelling was so loud that the two of you could faintly hear him screaming, “finally!”

tw: vomiting, fainting
let us break ––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
all idols are trained actors. a lot of people don’t realize it, maybe, but they had to be, to some extent. even before debuting, they learned by observation how to fake health, confidence, and calm - and beyond debut, it was happiness all the time. once, hyunjin found out that one of his best childhood friends was in the hospital, and then sang and smiled through a fansign without blinking an eye an hour later. he knew other idols who had endured much worse.
so yes, while hyunjin might not be entirely comfortable playing a role in a movie or a show, he was quite capable of faking it. maybe that’s why he was able to convince his group mates that he was okay right up until he collapsed.
he hadn’t expected things to get so bad. at first, he was just a bit congested - nothing he couldn’t pass off as allergies, really. once he’d gotten wrapped up in practicing, it had been easy to brush anything else off - like sweating, achy muscles, even nausea - as an effect of intense exercise. too easy, maybe, because hyunjin was not at all prepared for his vision to flicker with darkness or for his legs to entirely give up in the middle of dancing.
fortunately, he retained consciousness, but he wasn’t able to stand quickly enough to dodge minho as he moved to their next formation. the older boy tripped over hyunjin and tumbled to the ground with an “oof,” which was then followed by the chaos of everyone trying to figure out what had happened at once.
it was way too much for hyunjin’s fevered brain to process. he shut down, the sounds blurring into something entirely nonsensical, so hyunjin tuned it all out until a gentle hand on his back made him jump.
“hyunjinnie?” it was chan, wiping tears away. “can you tell me what’s wrong?”
hyunjin shook his head. “minho-hyung–”
“he’s okay,” chan said. “don’t worry.”
shuffling his feet awkwardly, minho nodded. “i know how to fall safely. it happens to the best of us.”
with the greatest of his greatest fears alleviated, hyunjin took a few deep breaths and looked around the room. besides minho, who was still standing nearby looking moderately uncomfortable, and chan, who was rubbing comforting circles on hyunjin’s back, the rest of the members were hanging out near the benches on the other side of the practice room. jisung was talking to their dance teacher while jeongin and changbin were messing with felix in what was probably a deliberate attempt at creating a distraction. seungmin was quietly observing hyunjin from a distance, concern written all over his face. distractions didn’t tend to work as well on him. hyunjin managed a smile in an attempt to be reassuring, but it didn’t seem to have the intended effect.
rather than relaxing, seungmin’s frown deepened, and he stood up and walked over, arms crossed. “don’t act like you’re okay,” he said, and hyunjin suddenly understood. he waved his arms around placatingly.
“i won’t - i’ll take today off, okay?” hyunjin caved easily. next to him, chan looked shocked, and not without reason.
three years ago, things would have gone down quite differently. things had gone down quite differently when hyunjin had been a trainee, and he’d woken up in the hospital with a very rattled seungmin at his bedside. hyunjin wouldn’t make that mistake again any time soon if he could help it.
that didn’t make it easy.
somehow the tears started up again of their own accord as hyunjin relented. “i’m sorry,” he said. “i– i’ll make it up to you all later, i know i’m behind with the dance, it’s just–”
this got the attention of the rest of the group, eliciting a scoff from changbin. “please don’t - if you do that, i’ll be even more behind than i already am.”
“give us a chance to catch up!” jisung added.
hyunjin shook his head. “but i’m supposed to be a dancer.”
felix bounded over and latched on to hyunjin’s arm. “you’re ahead of me, too. i think the only one you’re not ahead of is minho-hyung, and he made half of the choreography.”
minho nodded solemnly. “i cheated.”
hyunjin was too tired to feel better about himself, but too miserable to argue, so he just shrugged and avoided eye contact with everyone.
chan put a hand to hyunjin’s forehead, and nodded as if confirming something. “i’ll come back to the dorm with you, then - i could use a rest day, too, i think.”
with no room for argument, hyunjin decided not to bother trying, despite his misgivings about taking up chan’s time. also, out of all of them, hyunjin thought that chan could use the extra rest the most. by the time they arrived at the dorm, the guilt in hyunjin’s stomach was more or less consumed by an overwhelming sense of loneliness and fear.
he settled in to the living room, sinking into the couch and trying to repress his body’s violent shivering by wrapping himself in a blanket, though it wasn’t very effective. hyunjin was relieved when chan sat next to him, pulling out his laptop - as expected, not really taking a break after all, but hyunjin didn’t mind. he knew chan was busy, and liked to feel productive as often as possible. people relaxed in different ways, anyway. just like that, despite the growing ache in his stomach, hyunjin began to relax and drift off to sleep.
it wasn’t until chan moved to get up that hyunjin snapped back awake. he immediately latched on to chan’s arm.
“hyung, don’t leave me.”
the words were out of his mouth before hyunjin had a chance to consider them, and he immediately hid his face in the couch cushions in embarrassment.
“hyunjinnie,” chan said gently, brushing a hand through hyunjin’s hair. he didn’t sound annoyed, so hyunjin peeked up at him, and found him smiling fondly. “i wasn’t going to leave, just going to get some water. you want anything?”
hyunjin felt his cheeks redden, and let go of chan’s arm. he shook his head. “sorry, hyung.”
“nothing to worry about,” chan said.
being alone even briefly was unsettling to hyunjin, feeling as bad as he was. it meant being forced to take stock of his body, which meant confronting that he felt, somehow, even worse than before. his head was pounding, everything hurt, and his stomach–
his stomach flipped very violently, and hyunjin retched, leaning over the couch, a bit stunned. he swallowed back the vile substance that rushed up his throat with a whimper and scrambled to his feet.
he made it to the toilet just in time for his body to rebel again. this time, hyunjin was hopeless to stop it, and it wasn’t long before tears were rolling down his cheeks. his hair was sticking to his face, matted down with sweat and in some places vomit. hyunjin tried to push it out of his way, but his hands were shaking terribly, and the nausea was so overwhelming, it was hard to focus on anything else.
chan found hyunjin with his cheek on the toilet seat, expression vacant, past the point of caring about a mess. when he saw chan, his face scrunched up into a sad pout.
“hyung… i’m sorry…”
chan chuckled and shook his head. “don’t apologize,” he said quietly, moving to hyunjin’s side just as the younger man began heaving again. chan held hyunjin’s hair and rubbed his shoulder blades, wishing he could do more. he couldn’t help but wince at the way hyunjin’s muscles tensed beneath his fingers.
it took quite a while for hyunjin’s stomach to settle. for about 10 minutes, it was on-and-off puking, half his time spent bent over the toilet, and the other half bonelessly slumped against chan. by the end, he was so exhausted that chan was considering bringing a mixing bowl into the bathroom, just so that hyunjin didn’t have to put so much effort into moving.
finally, hyunjin let out a shuddering sigh - or maybe a sob - and curled up in chan’s lap.
“can i sleep here?” hyunjin mumbled, words slurred with exhaustion. some of the sick in his hair was beginning to dry.
“soon, jinnie. for now, let’s get you cleaned up.”
chan opted to give hyunjin a warm bath, and was pleased when hyunjin relaxed into it, half-asleep. he figured it was okay for the younger man to take a quick nap under chan’s supervision. by the time hyunjin was clean, chan was reluctant to wake him. just as he was about to, hyunjin’s face scrunched up, and he whimpered.
“hyunjin?”
“‘m sorry,” he mumbled, fresh tears slipping down his cheeks. “i’ll do better…”
chan shook him gently, and hyunjin’s eyes flew open. “i’m sorry, i–” he cut himself off with a gasp, taking in his surroundings slowly. “channie-hyung?”
“hey, buddy,” he said, speaking softly. “you okay?”
hyunjin was breathing in short, quick gasps. his eyes darted around the small room, as though searching for something. he blinked quickly, and looked back at chan, who offer a smile.
“it’s just us, you know?”
drinking air as though its supply was dangerously limited, hyunjin nodded. “i know, yeah, i just… hyung, i’m ruining your day off.”
chan shook his head immediately. “what are you talking about, jinnie? you know i’m here because i want to be, right?”
hyunjin bit his lip, trying not to cry. his fevered brain was not being kind to him. chan’s words were too genuine to deny, though, so he nodded, eyes closed. he felt chan’s arms wrap around him, hesitant until hyunjin hugged him back.
“jinnie, you’re allowed to be human. you’re allowed to hurt. it’s okay.”
something there caught him off guard. something broke, something that had been built up, something that had protected hyunjin for a long time. a little snap. it hurt, realizing he’d closed himself off without realizing it, and holding back tears was a lost cause, but then - that was kind of chan’s point.
why hide them?
so hyunjin cried, broken a bit, but held together by one of his best friends - his family. he let himself break a bit more - just as much as he needed - and didn’t flinch when the rest of the members came home. he let them in through a little crack of a doorway, let him hold him and remind him of who he was, and he began to heal.

One.
You're not really sure when you started to like Jeongin. I mean, you two were friends, don't get me wrong but that was it. Friends.
That was all he would ever see you as, you thought bitterly. The label that many would love to have but you cursed yourself for it every day. You see, you were first introduced to the smiling boy by your good friend Seungmin who thought you should at least try to make friends other than him, claiming that he won't be with you forever.
***
“Oh come on Min, I thought we'd always be friends,” you whined as he dragged you to a small cafe after school where you would meet his friend.
“Stop acting so childish Y/N, you have to start talking to other people too, you know.”
“But whyyyy? I have you, right?” you giggled at his unamused expression, telling you that he had enough of your shit.
“Nope. You're going to make other friends and that's final. You wouldn't want to really turn into a hermit crab,” he said smugly.
Now it was your turn to look unimpressed. “You don't need to bring up my spirit animal, sheesh. What a low blow, even for someone like you, Min.”
“What was a low blow?” a boy around your age with a cheerful smile approached you giving you a questioning look. You just stood there nervously, staring at him for god knows how long until Seungmin finally broke the ice with a rather awkward cough and proceeded to introduce you guys.
“Y/N, this is Jeongin. Jeongin, this is Y/N,” he pointed at the two of you, swiftly introducing you to the other.
“Um,” you awkwardly extended your hand for a handshake, “hello, I'm Y/N, Seungmin's friend.”
He shook your hand with a firm grip before smiling from ear to ear, “I'm Jeongin, from the neighboring class.”
After you guys settled, you proceeded to order your drinks and snacks. The atmosphere was undeniably awkward, but Seungmin seemed adamant about reaching his goal.
“So look guys, I brought you both here because you both need more friends. You're both introverts who like to hide in their shells and I think you two have a lot in common, so I think this would be beneficial for both parties.”
“So you're basically trying to say that you don't want to hang out with us anymore?”
The innocence in his tone almost fooled you for a second, before you noticed the smug expression on his face and couldn't hold in the burst of laughter.
“Man, I like him already,” you sniggered after you caught your breath, patting a visibly annoyed Seungmin on the back.
“Who would have thought there is someone more savage than you in this school.”
The unimpressed deadpan he gave you made you fall into another fit of giggles, prompting Jeongin to chuckle too.
After the waitress came back with your beverages, you proceeded to distract yourself by making little paper balls and blowing them through your straw into the ceramic pot on the table. You got so distracted, that you spaced out and didn’t notice when Seungmin started waving his hand in front of your face.
“Y/N, Y/N! Are you even listening?”
You felt your cheeks heat up in embarrassment at being caught zoning out. No wonder you had no friends. Slowly lifting your head, you faced Seungmin, waiting for him to repeat what he just said.
“I asked if you wanted to come to watch him play on Saturday.”
“Watch who?” you asked confusedly.
“Jeongin, he's on our school's soccer team,” he deadpanned, annoyed at your lack of concentration.
“Umm, sure...I guess. I'm not much of a sports person but I have nothing to do on the weekend,” you mumbled, mentally checking for any possible plans or chores you could have. Well jokes on you, you had none.
Jeongin beamed at that, taking a sip from his beverage as he pulled out his phone. “I'm glad you can make it - Seungmin would come but he has an exam he has to prepare for,” he explained, “the match starts at five o'clock.”
“Wait, wait, what? There's an exam next week?” you screeched. You were almost positive that there weren't any but dread filled you at even the slightest possibility.
The boy let out a chuckle at your obvious panic, shaking his head. “No, the exam is in two weeks but you know how he is.”
You could feel a weight being lifted from your heart as you sighed in relief. “Thank god, I thought I missed something,” you giggled.
Jeongin smiled at the display. Maybe hanging out with you wouldn't be that bad, at least he'd have someone he knew watching the game other than Seungmin who wasn't exactly the most supportive when it came to sports, opting to rearrange his binder or do his homework instead of watching.
“Thanks, it means a lot to me. I'm always happy if there is someone cheering for me in the stands,” he winked, making your heart skip a beat.
Wait a minute.
Something wasn't right here.
After the two of you bid goodbye to Jeongin, you dragged Seungmin out of the cafe, the gears in your head spinning at maximum speed.
“Wait a second Seungmin, he's not that popular striker who scores most of our school's goals that all the girls swoon over, right? Please tell me I'm right,” you stammered, pulling on his sleeve.
“Relax Y/N, he's really nice-”
“So it's him?!”
“Yes,” he sighed, opening his mouth to say something, probably to convince you to not bail on his friend but you didn't even give him the chance.
“I can't believe it! Why didn't you tell me? You made me agree to accompany one of the most popular guys in our school! His fangirls will kill me,” you hissed. Although you never remembered his name, it was practically basic knowledge that anyone on the soccer team was insanely popular with a cult-like following of crazed fans who went after anyone near them.
“Calm down, ok,” he held you by the shoulders, “ you will be ok, alright? He's a really nice guy who could also use some friends. All the other guys on the team are seniors so it's hard for him to find someone he can talk to face to face,” he tried to explain.
“And don't worry,” he added with a smile, “you don't have to do anything, just come and watch the match and cheer him on a bit, alright?”
“Alright,” you groaned.
Tumblr media
Two.
You should have never agreed to come to that soccer game. That ultimately became your downfall. If you had never agreed to this, maybe you wouldn't be like this today.
You sighed, rummaging through your closet and trying to figure out what the hell were you supposed to wear. I mean - what was it even. You had no clue what was going to happen, you only knew that he and his teammates would pick you up on their way to the match.
He texted you the day before that he and the boys would stop by your house at three-thirty to come and collect you. After ten minutes of just standing there, you finally decided on a casual outfit and ran to your door to put your sneakers on. As if on cue, you could hear a car honking right outside your door and your phone lit up with a new text message.
Jeongin [03:32]
We're here.
You slammed the door shut and made your way to the vehicle. You could see a boy you recognized but didn't remember his name, behind the wheel. Inside the van, there were a few other boys scattered around, including Jeongin who sat in the back alone.
“Hi Y/N, hop in,” he beamed, rolling down the window. You smiled back, opening the door and taking a seat next to him.
“So, are you excited?” the boy driving turned to look at you with a grin as he slowly backed the car, driving away from your house.
“Yeah, it's been a while since I watched our team play and from what I’ve heard, you guys are pretty good,” you smiled nervously under their gazes.
They all laughed at that, happy to hear they had a good reputation even amongst the students not involved in sports.
“I'm Chan, by the way, captain of our schools’ soccer club,” the boy behind the wheel stated. Oh, so that's why he seemed so familiar. Practically everyone knew him, and he knew everyone too. He'd often greet people who didn't think he knew they existed and was always extra kind which combined with his captain status led to his immense popularity.
“The grumpy one next to me is Minho,” he pointed to the currently sleeping figure in the passenger's seat.
“Hey! I’m not grumpy!”
Well. Looks like he wasn't asleep after all.
“I'm Jisung,” the cheerful boy in front of you chimed as he turned around and gave you a big smile.
“And I'm Hyunjin.”
“Um, well...I'm Y/N,” you winced at how awkward you sounded but luckily, they didn't seem to mind as they all giggled.
“We know,” came Minho's curt reply, “Jeongin wouldn't shut up about you.”
“Ouch,” Minho screeched as Jeonging threw his shoe at him.
The rest of the car ride went rather smoothly, other than the occasional bickering of the guys but you honestly didn't mind. It was kind of comforting to just let go of everything and laugh along. It surprised you how nice they were, you kind of imagined them as selfish pricks but that clearly wasn't the case.
At one point, Hyunjin and Jisung started arguing over which color uniform they should wear for the match. You watched with a hint of amusement, that was until they turned to you for help.
“But look, if we choose the red one, Chan will be able to live out his dream as Christiano Bangnaldo,” Jisung pleaded as Chan let out an embarrassed chuckle.
“Christiano Bangnaldo? Wow, I'm wheezing.”
“Exactly,” Hyunjin cut you guys off, “that's why we should choose the blue one, it goes better with my skin tone.”
“Oi, nobody cares about your damn skin tone, I want to see Christiano Bangnaldo,” Minho stated loudly, completely shutting up the younger two. Welp, seems like it was decided. What Minho wants, Minho gets.
After you finally arrived at the dimly lit school stadium, you made your way out of the car as Jeongin held the door open for you. Smiling, you thanked him for the kind gesture before finally looking around. And your socks were pretty much blown off.
Now you were wondering, why you never came here before. The field was slowly starting to fill with other students slash players but that didn't manage to hide the undeniable beauty of this place. The bleachers were surprisingly clean, unlike most high school stadiums. The dim lights cast a nice glow over the stadium, giving it a really homey feel. You looked around in awe, still surprised by the atmosphere of this place.
“Have you ever been here during the night?” a lean figure stood behind you, observing you and effectively cutting off your train of thought.
“Nope. This is the first time,” you breathed out.
“That's what I thought. It looks completely different when it's dark,” he chuckled, turning around to head to the locker rooms.
“So... I have to head back so we can all change. You can take a seat wherever you want, I'd recommend the first row,” he winked cheekily, accompanying the gesture with a throaty laugh.
You blushed at that, choosing to snuggle into your shirt, to hide your embarrassment. How could he be so cheesy so casually? He must have noticed your slight shiver as he slipped out of his varsity jacket.
Before you could even protest, he had already placed the jacket around your shoulders, patting your head. You opened your mouth to object but he cut you off, “it's ok Y/N, I’m not gonna need it anyways. And by the way...thank you for coming, I really appreciate it.”
You smiled, realizing that something that seemed so pointless, so small could mean so much to someone else. He seemed genuinely excited to have someone cheering for him, even if he had tens of fangirls doing just that. You huffed in the chilly wind, lifting your head up to gaze at him.
“No problem Jeongin, I'm happy I came.”
Something about how he smiled at you, stirred your insides, made your heart skip a beat. Your eyes trailed after him, lingering on his receding figure. You didn't look away until he stepped into the locker room, the door pretty much obstructing your gaze and snapping you out of this trance.
Looking around, you could sense that the stadium was slowly filling up. If you wanted to have a seat, you would have to be quick. You ran down to the first row seats but with a sigh realized that most of them were already taken. You were about to give up and run up to find a spot in the next row but a sharp tug on your sleeve stopped you.
Turning around, you spotted a boy, maybe a year or two older than you, looking at you with a curious face. You tried to pry out of his hold, tugging on your hand but he didn't let go. Right when you were about to scream, he finally spoke, “are you Jeongin's friend? We saved you a seat,” he motioned to the spot next to him.
“How the hell do you know that?” you asked, confusion evident.
“Well,” he chuckled, “the jacket…”
Oh. right. You were wearing Jeongin's varsity jacket. You almost forgot.
“So… are you and Jeongin-”
“No,” you cut him off before he could even finish the sentence, “I'm a friend of a friend who couldn't make it today so I came instead.”
“Oh, you see - I thought, Hyunjin said-” he suddenly stopped, not bothering to continue, instead opting to tug you down to sit next to him.
“Watch,” was all he said.
You sat there obediently, watching the game and occasionally cheering Jeongin on, whenever he passed the ball or attempted to score. He was really good, especially considering that he was the youngest on the team.
During the less intense parts of the game, you made small talk with the boy next to you. He introduced himself as Jinyoung. He was the captain of the lacrosse team and a good friend of Chan and Hyunjin. You found out that as a captain, he would attend almost all the other sports events that his friends partook in, claiming it to be common courtesy.
Both of you refocused your attention on the game. Your team seemed to be on the offensive again, Hyunjin passing the ball to Jisung, who maneuvered around one of the opposing team’s defenders before eventually passing to Minho.
Just when he was about to kick it, another leg appeared from the side, tripping him and making him fall flat on his face. He managed to at least stick out his hands so they would take the brunt of the fall but he struggled to get up on his feet.
Before the other boy could get away with the ball, the referee blew the whistle, signalizing a foul and stopping the game.
“What happened? Is he ok?” you asked, frantically scrambling up and leaning into the field from behind the barrier.
“Don't worry,” Jinyoung chuckled, “he'll be fine. They'll probably be getting a penalty kick. And I bet you a hundred bucks that Jeongin will be the one to take the shot.”
“Wait really? Is he that good?” you surprisedly inquired.
“Yeah, he's the best shot on the team.”
Now you were excited. You heard that he was good but never realized to what extent.
Jinyoung was right. You could see the coach huddled with the players in a circle, probably talking strategy or something before Chan patted Jeongin on the back. They all withdrew from the group circle leaving Jeongin to stand in front of the ball and the other team's goalkeeper to hunch down in preparation for the kick.
The referee blew the whistle, signalizing the resuming of the game. Jeongin took a few steps back before bursting into a run, kicking the ball into the upper left corner with utmost control.
You all stood up in anticipation, the kick seeming almost as if in slow motion, you could see the goalkeeper jump to his left, desperate to catch the ball before it landed in the net but his attempt was futile.
The kick he delivered was far too good to be caught, the expert technique and control visible to any onlooker. Paired with a huge roar of applause, you could all see the ball land in the goal with a thud.
Everyone erupted in cheers, including you and the atmosphere was great. You could see a few photographers who probably worked for the local sports columns, their cameras clicking like crazy, trying to capture the moment of glory of this young high schooler.
All of his teammates pulled Jeongin into a collective embrace, Chan slipping off his goalkeeper gloves before hoisting the boy on his shoulder.
In the heat of the moment, Jeongin looked through the spectators, trying to find the person that came to watch him. When he spotted you, cheering him on with a big grin, he couldn't help the fond smile from appearing. After he finally caught your gaze, he shot you a friendly wink, laughing at your flustered reaction.
“Wow, just friends you say,” Jinyoung teased, witnessing the whole exchange.
“Oh shut up! We met like a week ago.”
***
Fast forward to the end of the match. You guys won two to none, the second goal scored by Minho with the assistance of Jeongin and Hyunjin. Everyone was excited, the adrenalin and momentum of the game still hasn't passed. The smell of sweat and coke (coca-cola!) heavy in the air as you sat with the team on the benches and reminiscenced the game.
“Jeongin! That goal of yours was really great, you had so much control over the ball. All those hours of practice have paid off!”
Jeongin shyly hid his face, all the praise from his captain making him feel fuzzy from the inside.
“Yeah, everyone in the bleachers froze in anticipation when you kicked the ball,” you chimed in, feeling the need to join the praise bandwagon for the boy, “it was really cool.”
After that, Jeongin continued to receive pats on the back from fellow teammates, a few coaches, and random people that you didn't even know who came to congratulate him on his flawless playing today.
Overall, everyone had a great time. The stars were out and you all just wanted to soak up the atmosphere. So this is what having a social life during your teenage years meant? It made you wonder, how much were you missing out on. You wished time would just freeze, allowing you to live in this moment forever. You were gonna have to thank Seungmin for this later.
Jeongin, who was seated next to you must have noticed you zoning out. He placed his palm on your shoulder and asked, “are you ok Y/N? Do you want us to take you home?”
You blinked. Once. Twice. And only after the third time did you realize, that you still haven’t answered his question. You smiled before letting the reassuring words slip out of your mouth, “I'm fine. Great actually. Can't remember when was the last time I had so much fun.”
He sighed in relief, glad that you were having fun. From what he could tell (and from what Seungmin told him) you didn't have many friends nor did you hang out with people. The only person you considered a friend was Seungmin and he wasn't exactly a social butterfly himself, opting to study in most of his free time.
All of you ended up chatting until nine pm, completely forgetting about the time and simply enjoying yourselves. You checked your phone at nine-thirty, gasping in shock at the time.
“Everything ok?” Chan asked with concern.
“Um, yeah. Just didn’t realize it was so late. I should probably get going,” you muttered nervously, picking up all your belongings and shoving them into your bag.
“Oh right, it's quite late already. We'll give you a ride, right Chan?” Jeongin turned to his captain.
“Of course. Let's all get going. Chop chop. C'mon Hyunjin, you can tell them about your skincare routine next time,” he pulled the whining boy away from his third victim today.
You packed yourselves into the van, the seating arrangements only slightly different from on your way here. Hyunjin must have been still pissed at Chan for cutting his skincare speech short because he wouldn't shut up about it on the way to the parking lot. He kept going on and on about how moisturizing is important, even if you have oily skin. The captain dismissed his rant with a laugh and started the engine as the complaining boy sat down in the passenger seat.
At some point, Into the unknown came on shuffle and all the boys except Jeongin started singing. You burst out in laughter at their failed attempts at singing the high notes, seeing Jeongin hide his face in embarrassment.
“Guys! Come on, stop it,” he pleaded but the older boys only smirked in response and started singing even louder. By now, you were dying from laughing so hard, Jeongin having to pat your back aggressively so you won't choke on your own spit.
After they got bored of singing, you became their main talking point and they kept asking you borderline intrusive questions until Jeongin told them off, seeing how you turned slightly uneasy. Because of the typical Saturday evening traffic, you ended up falling asleep on the shoulder of a slightly pink Jeongin. He became super nervous once he realized you weren't awake and tried his best not to move and to hold you steady on every speed bump.
It took about fifteen more minutes for you guys to arrive in front of your place. Chan parked on the street and turned to say goodbye.
“Thanks for coming, Y/N. We're glad you came. Hope you had fun too,” he smiled, his dimples making an appearance.
“Jeongin especially,” Jisung whispered not-so-quietly and squeaked from the death glare Chan shot him.
You laughed softly, your cheeks bunching up as you waved them goodbye.
When you were laying in bed, your mind wandered off to today's events. As much as you didn't want to admit it, Seungmin was right. You really enjoyed yourself.
***
It was a sunny Monday morning when you were walking up the steps to your school entrance. You spent the rest of the weekend thinking about the Saturday game, not yet sure, how you felt about this newfound hobby. Maybe you should really spend more time with people. You also washed up Jeongin's varsity jacket that you forgot to return on Saturday evening.
You held the paper bag containing the washed piece of clothing in your right hand as you pushed the entrance door with your left. It felt all too easy, almost as if the door opened on its own. And you realized that no, you didn't grow stronger from that one arm toning workout you did yesterday as you saw a veiny hand press into the glass.
You turned to face that mystery person, only to sigh in relief as you were left face to face with Chan.
“Oh, hello,” you smiled, greeting him rather timidly. Because let's face it - you weren't exactly sure if they even considered you a friend. You were just some random girl that came to their soccer game.
Thankfully, he seemed to consider you a friend too as he gave you his dimpled smile, “hey Y/N, how was your weekend?”
“It was pretty good. I had lots of fun on Saturday and yesterday I just chilled,” you beamed.
“Same here,” he laughed, “we all pretty much passed out when we got home- oh shoot, the bell's off, I have to get to class. See you around.”
With a simple wave, he dashed out of your sight, turning around the corner to climb up the stairs to his classroom. You then remembered that you too had class and if you didn't wanna be late, you'd have to make a dash for it too.
***
It was during lunch break that you remembered that you had to return Jeongin his jacket. You nervously walked to his homeroom, anxious about what was going to happen. Will he think you're weird for coming to his class? Will he be embarrassed when you come up to him in front of all his friends? You sighed as you entered the classroom. It seemed like nobody noticed you at first, everyone was way too immersed with their own stuff. You could see that they all got along, the room booming with chatter and laughter.
Jeongin's table was near the window, a girl's chair turned to face him as they both engaged in a conversation. You awkwardly shuffled a few meters away, not wanting to interrupt. It was a truly wrecking moment, you even considered just turning around and disappearing without a trace but Jeongin noticed you and gave you a wide smile.
“Hey Y/N. What brings you here?”
You stood there for a few seconds before you finally remembered, what you came for. “Umm, hi. Just wanted to return this,” you handed him the bag, “I washed it and everything. Thanks for borrowing it.”
His eyes flashed in recognition after he peeked into the bag and he immediately returned the bag to your hand.
“It's fine,” he mumbled with slightly rosy cheeks (not that you noticed), “you can have it, I don't mind.”
You stared at him in shock, mouth slightly agape to which he awkwardly laughed. You were about to protest but the bell rang and Jeongin muttered that you should better get back to class.
You nodded in embarrassment, not even being able to look him in the eye as you hastily waved and ran out of the classroom.
You were mentally beating yourself up for that, you should have never come to his class, he must have been embarrassed that someone like you came to his class, everyone was probably used to him hanging around popular people like that girl he was talking to.
The rest of the day was pretty uneventful. You stuffed the paper bag with his jacket into your backpack, what were you even supposed to do with it - did he not hear that you washed it or something?
When you arrived home, you hung the jacket on one of the hooks near the door and headed to your room to get some homework done.

Three
It was a few months later that you and Jeongin officially became friends. During that time, the both of you hung out a lot more, courtesy of Seungmin and the rest of the soccer team who thought the two of you made great friends. It started out simple at first: getting coffee together, working on homework, and cursing that physics assignment you both had no clue how to finish.
Times like these made you realize how much of a fun person Jeongin was. There was never a dull moment around him yet despite his easygoing and fun nature, you noticed he preferred to keep to himself, only hanging out with his closest circle of friends. A category which you seemed to now fall under too.
Despite all your anxiousness about whether you were even “worthy” (as some would say) of being his friend, Jeongin always told you that he didn't care if you weren't labeled as popular by the rest of the student body.
“Y/N, we've had this conversation many times already. I really couldn't care less that you aren't a popular cheerleader and don't have Gucci bags,” he smiled, pushing a stray strand of hair that fell in front of your face, behind your ear.
“I know, I know. Sorry Jeongin, I know you aren't like that. I just get really anxious when those kids bury me with their gazes when I dare look at you.”
“Look, if anyone is bothering you, please tell me ok? I'll talk to them. I don't want you to suffer from being my friend,” he smiled, waving the waitress over to order for you guys.
“Don't worry, Jeongin. I promise I will,” you smiled, turning back to your physics workbook. The homework was on magnetic motors or something like that and you had no clue how to do it.
“Umm, do you know the answer to question three?” you asked, chewing on your bottom lip.
“Nope. I fell asleep during that class,” he admitted with a chuckle.
“Oh come on. You can't do that. You should pay attention.”
“Like you paid any,” he pointed, taking a sip of his lemonade.
“Excuse me!” you gasped, “I did pay attention. I just didn't understand any of it. That's different.”
“Hmm. It sure is.”
Tumblr media
Four
You were leaning over the sink in your bathroom, blood and flower petals splattered all over as you tried your best to get it all out of your throat. The petals were bright yellow. Sunflower petals.
How ironic, you thought. Sunflowers represented adoration, longevity, and pure thoughts. Just like how you felt towards Jeongin. And how he'd never feel towards you.
You bit back a sob as you choked on even more of the soft petals. In a sense, you were quite lucky - had you been coughing up any other flower (especially roses), it would probably hurt way more. But that still didn't mean that it wasn't painful. Your breath heaved as you tried your best to take deep breaths, your constricted lungs filled with petals, not exactly helping.
You have been suffering from the hanahaki disease for a few weeks now. You always thought it was a myth from the internet, never once have you expected to run to the bathroom at three am to hurl petals into the sink. It started slowly at first. You'd only cough out some petals and drops of blood, but it got progressively worse.
You'd have days that you wouldn't be able to even get out of bed with the exhaustion you felt. All you wanted to do was sleep and forget about the cute boy with dimples. But no, you could never be angry at Jeongin. He was an absolute sweetheart who was nothing but kind to everybody. You couldn't exactly blame him for being around other people. That's right, you didn't know if they were dating but he seemed to hang around this girl called Lia a lot recently, the one he was talking to months prior. They seemed to be good friends too, apparently knowing each other for years now. You tried your best to suppress the jealousy that was rising in you, along with the petals.
You quickly turned back to the sink, just in time for it to catch the new batch of bloodied petals. Even thinking about her made your heart ache and you absolutely despised yourself for that. Lia was nothing but a sweet girl that always smiled at you in the hallway and occasionally made small talk with you.
***
A week later you were walking down the corridor, looking for the vending machine. It seems like they recently moved it from its original location, in front of the lab. You turned around the corner, your eyes bulging out of your skull at what you saw.
Jeongin and Lia were hunched near the lockers, whispering and giggling at something. He said something, making the girl shake her head in denial as he arched his brow. You couldn't watch anymore, quickly running back and abandoning your original plan of finding the vending machine and instead, running to the bathroom. You slammed the door shut, flinging yourself over the toilet as you vomited heaps of the yellow petals, this time mixed with some green leaves and stems. This was by far the worst case, you have never thrown up green before.
You wiped your dry lips, attempting to take deep breaths and calm your heart. It was horrible what seeing the two together did to you. You couldn't believe you lost control like that only a few meters away from him. What would happen if he saw you?
You had to suppress it. He could never find out.
***
It was a truly painful day. Tomorrow was Valentine's Day and you could see all the stores decorated with pinks and reds, hearts everywhere, and signs welcoming couples with tempting discounts.
Your stomach did flips as you walked the path to the school door. It hurt. It hurt so fucking much. You contemplated calling sick the next day and not going to school at all, but you had an important paper to hand in and the professor was especially grumpy and wanted it on his desk on that particular day.
You trudged up the steps with a frown, when you heard your name being called.
“Hey, Y/N,” Chan called after you, running up the stairs to catch up.
“Oh hey, Chan,” you mumbled, mustering up your best fake smile but he still managed to see through it.
“Is everything ok?” he asked, obviously concerned.
“Yeah, just a little tired,” you dismissed, leaving him and running towards your locker.
Good job Y/N, you groaned, now you can't even hang out with your other friends.
You spent the rest of the day avoiding the whole group, trying your best to overpower the need to throw up petals. You didn't want to repeat the previous incident in school. Jeongin must have by now noticed how distant you were. He probably thought you hated him by how you kept avoiding him for the past month.
He probably wanted to ask you to come to his game tomorrow which you sure as hell weren't planning to attend. On top of the fact that you could literally shower the whole stands with petals, it was also going to be Valentine's day and there was no telling if the boy was going to ask Lia out or something like that.
And your heart wouldn't be able to handle that.
You ran home after your last period. Your stomach growled at the lack of lunch but you figured it was better than running into one of them.
You stomped into the bathroom, not even taking off your shoes as you threw up into the bin. There was more blood today. There was no telling of what would happen tomorrow, the romantic atmosphere would probably only serve as a bitter reminder of your broken heart.
You wiped your lips, deciding that taking a shower would be in your best interest. After that, you sat by your desk and made some finishing touches to the essay due tomorrow.
Maybe you would just come to turn it in and then dip…
***
You woke up with a strangled cry, the dream you had still playing in your head. With a groan you slumped out of bed, ready to prepare for the day but to your horror, you realized that you overslept. You had approximately ten minutes before you had to leave.  You brushed your teeth, shoved some toast down your throat, and gathered your things. With a sense of urgency, you threw on jeans, a blouse, and some sneakers, not feeling like dressing up.
You had to leave immediately. Like now. You grabbed your backpack, quickly checking the essay was there, took your keys off the hook, and grabbed the first jacked you could find. It was dark blue (and very soft) meaning it would match almost anything you had on and since the weather was chilly, you wouldn't want to risk catching a cold.
Running out the door, you pulled it on and slung the backpack on your shoulder, running to the bus stop. Only then did you notice the engraved initials YJ on the sleeve and cursed yourself for bringing the wrong one. You would have taken it off right away if it wasn't for the blasting AC.
You stomped up the chairs, annoyance coursing through your veins. This day couldn't get any worse. Still thinking about leaving after handing in the assignment, you almost avoided going to your locker but remembered the jacket. You'd just drop it in and head to the professor's office.
You dug around for your keys until you finally found them in the bottom of your backpack. You slid it in the keyhole and opened the locker.
You were surprised by a giant teddy plushie and a box of chocolates. Your eyes widened in surprise before you heard a loud “surprise”.
Turning around, you were face to face with a grinning Jeongin. He stood over you with a large bouquet of beautiful sunflowers and the rest of the team, Lia, and Seungmin were all behind him cheering and throwing confetti.
To say that you were in shock would be a massive understatement. The look of utter confusion must have been plastered on your face as Jeongin smiled and handed you the bouquet.
“For me?”
He nodded slowly, examining your expression. You took the flowers from him, lowering your head to smell them.
“No one's ever given me something like this before,” you croaked, tears beginning to well in your eyes.
Jeongin nervously stood there before grabbing your hand and looking you in the eyes.
“Y/N, we've been friends for some time now but I wanted to ask you… Will you be my valentine?”
“Of course I will,” you whispered, almost jumping at him and swallowing him in a bone-crushing hug.
“I've liked you for some time now,” you admitted after a while, burying your head into his chest and enjoying the sudden way you seemed to breathe easier, not feeling the itchy petals in your throat anymore.
“Same here,” he laughed.
“Wait really? Since when?” you asked perplexed.
“Since I gave you my jacket,” he grinned, “I'm glad to see that you're making proper use of it.”
“Come on everybody, let's leave them alone,” Chan hollered, dragging everybody away to give you guys some privacy.
“I'm sorry if it seemed like I was avoiding you for the past week. I was planning with Lia on how to do, how to do all of this, you know,” he pointed at all the gifts he got you.
“Thank you,” you smiled again, “I really appreciate it Jeongin.”
“Do you want to come to the game today? I'd introduce you to all my other friends.”
“I'd love to.”
He seemed to be thinking about something, his nose scrunching up before he looked at you and placed his hands on your waist.
You peered at him through your lashes as he slowly leaned down, pressing his plush lips to yours and sealing them into a kiss. You closed your eyes, leaning down to get even closer to him as you gripped his shirt for support. The kiss was short but sweet and you were startled apart by a loud wolf whistle.
You turned around, cheeks burning in embarrassment at Jisung doing kissy faces and Hyunjin laughing in the background. You almost jumped away and Jeongin just chuckled.
“The game starts two hours after school. Do you want to go on like a proper date before that?”
“Sure,” you smiled, “I should probably get going, I have to submit this essay,” you waved the piece of paper that counted for nearly half of your final grade for the quarter.
“Don't forget the flowers,” he pointed to the bouquet.
“About that, maybe I should leave it in my locker. You know - to not start anything,”
“Y/N,” he said with a serious tone, “I don't care what the others think. They'll know by the evening anyways.”
You were startled at first, but then realized that he was right. No more caring about what others thought about you.
Now it was just you and Jeongin. You liked the sound of that.
“Okay,” you smiled, picking up the flowers, “I'll meet you at two in front of the lockers.”
With a smile, you walked in the direction of your classroom. After weeks of pain and sorrow, you finally felt like everything fell into place.

Hii! Can I request a sickfic where Stray Kids are on tour in Japan and Hyunjin get a stomach bug? Thank you..
Here it is, hope you enjoy,
TW emeto
Hotel Mess
The Stray Kids members were currently in Japan for the last leg of their world tour. They had already done two concerts here and had one more scheduled for tonight and one for tomorrow night before heading back home. They were all still extremely excited and pumped for their concerts. Well all except for one member.
Hyunjin had woken up feeling like absolute shit. He had a headache, he felt both hot and cold, and his stomach was churning uncomfortably. He wasn't entirely sure how or where since he was really only ever around his fellow members, but it was clear he somehow caught a stomach bug.
Hyunjun knew that he needed to tell someone he was sick, but wasn't sure how to broach the topic. Mainly because Jisung's anxiety was flaring up a bit and he didn't want to make everyone more stressed.
However, Hyunjin didn't have to debate whether or not he should hide his illness, because as soon as he stood up he became extremely dizzy while his stomach lurched violently.
He did his best to stagger his way to the bathroom of his room, but didn't quite make it.
Before he could even reach the halfway mark to the bathroom, Hyunjun bent forward and gagged. A split second later a round of sick was making its appearance on the carpet of the hotel room. He dry heaved a couple of times after he finished puking then sat down next to the puddle, any energy he'd had previously, now depleted entirely.
Jisung, who had been in the bathroom brushing his teeth, had heard some kind of commotion coming from his roommate and fellow 2000 liner, but wasn't entirely sure what it was. He spit the toothpaste into the sink, rinsed his mouth, then left the bathroom to investigate.
What he found was Hyunjin sitting on the floor in between the two beds with a puddle of vomit next to him. He quickly hurried over to him and placed his hand on the older's forehead, not the slightest bit surprised to find him feverish.
"Jinnie, you feeling okay?" He asked his sick hyung. Hyunjin groaned while shaking his head while holding his abdomen. "Do you need help getting to the bathroom?" Jisung asked, not quite sure what all he could do, but gently helped Hyunjun to his feet when he nodded.
Jisung safely got Hyunjin situated in front of the toilet just in time to watch him begin puking again. Jisung watched his hyung empty the contents of his stomach for a good minute before helping him rest against the bathtub when he finished.
“Aish hyung, you aren’t in any condition for the concert tonight. I need to tell Chan hyung and figure out how to get the carpet cleaned.” Jisung was primarily thinking out loud, but Hyunjin heard every word and was in no condition to argue. As much as he’d like to argue about telling Chan he can’t perform, the room was spinning and there were two Jisungs. Hyunjin just wanted to go back to bed.
Jisung momentarily left the bathroom to go digging in his suitcase for the thermometer that he knew was in there. Chan always made sure that at least one member per rooming arrangement had one along with other items just in case. He quickly found it and scanned the other’s forehead. “Shit hyung, we need to get this lowered fast. Your fever is 103.2.” Jisung quickly turned on the faucet of the bathtub, making sure it was lukewarm and waited for it to fill up.
Jisung helped Hyunjin undress down to his boxers, then helped him into the tub. He then quickly left again to grab his phone and returned to the bathroom. When he got to the bathroom however, Hyunjin’s face somehow got paler and greener. Jisung rapidly grabbed the tiny trash can located near the toilet and held it under his hyung’s head.
Hyunjin gagged a couple of times before his head was basically thrust into the can as he dry heaved into it. After several moments of dry heaving, only a small stream of bile came out. Hyunjin leaned back when he was done and whimpered in discomfort. He then heard a phone ringing quickly followed by Jisug answering it.
“Yeah hyung, Jinnie is in zero condition for the concert tonight. He’s thrown up at least twice and he’s got a high fever.” Hyunjin turned to see that Jisung was talking on the phone.” Jisung sighed as he hung up the phone and turned back to Hyunjin.
“Chan hyung is having a manager talk with the front desk about getting us moved to a different room. You stay in the tub for a bit and I’ll make sure our suitcases are set for the move. Holler if you need me.” With that Jisung left the bathroom.
It only took a few minutes for Jisung to get everything put together and he returned grabbing the thermometer off the bathrom counter. He quickly scanned Hyunjin’s forehead again. “It’s a little bit lower hyung. It’s now 102.8. Let’s get you out of the tub and changed, the manager will be here shortly. The manager showed up and helped carry the bags while Jisung braced Hyunjin. He offered to carry the sick member, but Jisung adamantly refused not wanting to increase the chance of it spreading beyond him and Hyunjin. He just needed to convince Chan to let him sit out of the concert as well.
The duo got into the room and their manager told them that he called room service to bring up some soup. He then left to go buy some fever reducers on Jisung's request.
Jisung helped Hyunjun get settled on the bed nearest to the bathroom. "How do you feel hyung?" Jisung asked. "Like shit." Was all Hyunjin said. "I'm going to quick fill up the ice bucket. Do you think you'll be okay for a few minutes?" Hyunjin nodded and Jisung left the room with the bucket.
In the few minutes that Jisung was gone, the soup had arrived and was sitting on a cart outside the room. Jisung placed the ice bucket on the cart and wheeled into the room. He brought the bowl of soup over to the sick member then took the bucket to the bathroom to fill with water.
Hyunjin was a bit hesitant to eat the food. He wasn't sure how his body was going to tolerate anything, but also knew he needed to eat something. He began to eat slow bites of the soup as Jisung returned with a bucket of ice water and a washcloth.
Jisung sat on the bed next to Hyunjin and dipped the cloth in the bucket before wringing it out and placing it on the older's neck. Jisung then turned on the TV and began eating his own bowl of soup. The duo ate in relative silence, and by the time they finished Hyunjin was beginning to nod off.
Jisung quickly and quietly put the bowls back on the cart before getting back on the bed to cuddle with his sick hyung. He knew it wasn’t the smartest idea, but he knew that Hyunjin loved to cuddle when he wasn’t feeling good. Jisung also had a fairly strong immune system. He wasn’t sure when the last time he had last been genuinely sick with anything other than a minor cold, and those usually lasted like three days, so he wasn’t worried. Jisung fell asleep not too long after Hyunjin.
About an hour later, Hyunjin suddenly woke up a bit confused. He wasn’t entirely sure why he had woken up, but before he could ponder it any, he began throwing up all over the bed and his oldest dongsaeng.
Hyunjin felt like he couldn’t control himself at all. He could feel how his stomach contracted painfully as it pushed the bile and the soup from lunch up his throat. Which in turn triggered his gag reflex so he could properly expel whatever was making his stomach so angry.
Once he had finished puking, he was able to take note of what had happened and realized that he had puked all over his dongsaeng, who was sitting frozen on the bed and looked to be on the brink of tears. Hyunjin was about to start apologizing, but Jisung shot up and ran to the bathroom before he could. A few seconds later, Hyunjin could hear what sounded like Jisung puking.
“Sungie, are you okay?” Hyunjin called, guilty that his dongsaeng had evidently caught his stomach bug. He met with further retching around noises that sounded kind of like ‘I’m fine. A minute later, Jisung emerged from the bathroom, stripped down to his boxers.
“That did not feel good.” Jisung muttered as he dug through his suitcase for some clean clothes. He looked up to find Hyunjin looking extremely guilty. “What’s up hyung?” he asked somewhat cautiously. Hyunjin sniffled, “I got you sick.” Jisung chuckled at that.
“While I have to admit that puking so suddenly and hard like that did not feel good, and that technically you did cause the puking, I’m not sick.” Hyunjin’s face morphed from guilt and concern to confusion at that statement.
“I operate pretty well around vomit and people puking, but as soon as someone pukes on me, my body kind of freaks out and decides it needs to expel whatever as well. I promise I’m fine.” Jisung finished his explanation then began to strip the bed of the duvet, which caught the puke that hadn’t landed on his lap.
“I think you should take it easy tonight though Sung, just in case.” Jisung nodded in understanding and took his phone off the nightstand, calling Chan.
After a couple of rings, Chan picked up. “What’s up Sung, How’s Jinnie?” “About that hyung, Hyunjin threw up again, then threw up right after.” Chan sighed upon hearing this. “Alright, I’ll talk with the managers and the other members and see if we can manage the show with just six, or if we have to cancel or postpone tonight’s concert. We’ll discuss tomorrow’s concert tomorrow. Feel better you two.” Chan hung up shortly thereafter, leaving the two oldest 2000 liners to their own devices.
Jisung put the phone down and noticed the box of fever reducers he had completely forgotten about on the cart with the room service. He grabbed the thermometer, the medicine, and some crackers before going back over to Hyunjin. He scanned the older’s forehead with the thermometer. “The good news is your fever is still down a little at 102.8, but the bad news is it hasn’t gone down any more. Do you think you can stomach a few crackers and take some medicine?” Hyunjin nodded and took the crackers. After he ate the crackers he took the offered dose of medicine and slumped back against the pillow.
It was soon decided that it would be too difficult to rearrange the choreography from eight people to six on such short notice, so management issued a statement postponing the remaining two concerts for the following week. Thankfully the location they were performing in was free the following week, so it wasn’t too difficult to rearrange some things. Twitter and Bubble had been blowing up from concerned fans wishing the sick members ‘get well soon’.
During the week they now had off for recovery, Jisung made sure that no one else actually came into the room. He only opened the door to receive the food their manager had arranged, successfully keeping the stomach bug contained to his and Hyunjin’s hotel room.
Just as Jisung had told Hyunjin, he was absolutely fine. He had never developed a fever and only puked the one time, so it was fairly safe to say he hadn’t caught the virus.
Hyunjin on the other hand spent the first couple of days throwing up every few hours. Thankfully he was able to keep food down to some extent, so his fever was able to be kept at a manageable number. He stopped vomiting three days into the week, and his fever broke two days before the first rescheduled concert. Hyunjin went on vlive the day before the first concert to talk with Stay and assure them that he was feeling much better, but wouldn’t be dancing during the concert. Jisung also made an appearance and assured fans that no one else had gotten sick as they had both remained sequestered to their hotel room the entire time.

You Look So Lovely, Darling (I’ll Love You for Lifetimes) - |BaL|
Kinda feels weird to be writing the proposal scene so early, but like? This drabble series is all out of order so whatever lmao :) enjoy some sweet nervous channie who just wants his proposal to be perfect <3
(and again, thanks to @deathbykpopboys for helping me work out this scene!! I LITERALLY owe you the world if you ever have ANY requests I'll be willing to write them :D)
Pairing: Chan x fem!reader
Genre: fluff, slice of life, single parent!au
Triggers: cursing
Word Count: 2.9k
Chan just wants to give you a picture perfect proposal - why is that so hard?
SKZ Masterlist | Breathe, and Live | Touching Stars (TBZ teacher!au)
Tumblr media
Proposing, Chan comes to learn, is no easy task.
It looks so simple in movies. One of the couple pulls a ring out of their pocket, kneels down in front of their significant other, and pops the question. There might be tears, but it always ends in pure joy.
Movies make it seem like a formula, a simple algorithm that Chan just has to follow in order to get this proposal right. In real life, though, Chan thinks he’s about to lose his mind.
Because movies don’t demonstrate how to act in front of an older brother very protective of his sister. They don’t show him how to talk to his children or hers, how best to ask them if they’re all right with gaining new siblings and a new parent. They don’t give him insight on how to pick the perfect god damn ring, something maybe reminiscent of the promise rings you both wear on chains around your necks, but also not too similar because what if you think he isn’t being creative?
And the worst thing is, they don’t tell him how to pick the perfect moment. They don’t tell him where to go, what ambience is right, whether or not little kids in the room will ruin the timing.
At this point, just thinking about proposing turns Chan into a stammering mess. Even though you’ve discussed marriage before, you haven’t made any large moves beyond that. Jisung and Felix have been calling you Mama for a bit, but Hyunjin has only just started calling him Papa, and mostly on accident (though each time he does, Chan’s heart fills with this overwhelming happiness that brings tears to his eyes). What if you decide now isn’t the right time? What if you decide you want to wait a little longer?
What if you decide Chan isn’t the right person for you?
That’s a question that plagues Chan every time his mind even brushes on the topic of marriage.
He loves you, though, he loves you so much. And he knows you’re the right partner for him, even if in the end you might decide he isn’t the right partner for you.
Patience, he tells himself, taking a deep breath. He really should be working on this new track, but instead, he’s staring into his hands, trying to map out the perfect proposal. Not too fast, Chan. Take it in steps.
The only problem is, step one scares him out of his wits.
. . . . .
Chan is a full year older than Minho, and then some. By all rights, he’s the elder, and he shouldn’t be as terrified of the younger man as he is.
Minho’s a scary person, though. He’s driven, concentrated, focused – it’s how he’s gotten so far as both a dancer and a father. Chan knows he’s hardworking, but Minho is just as much, if not more, than he is.
And he’s very protective of you.
(When Minho found out you two were dating, he told Chan, verbatim, “I won’t hesitate to take you to international waters, chop up your body, and toss the parts overboard if you hurt my sister.” Just thinking about the blank expression Minho had on when he spoke those words is almost enough to make Chan lose his nerve.)
But here he is, standing just outside of Minho’s studio, ready to knock. He’s sweating, not because it’s hot or anything (it’s actually pretty cold because Minho is weird like that), but just out of sheer nervousness. His heart feels like it’s pounding a mile a minute.
Oh, God. Chan raises his hand again to rap on the door. Stop thinking. Just do it.
He knocks.
A few seconds later, the dancer opens the door in all his sweaty glory. “Chan?”
“Yeah.” Chan tries to smile, but he’s pretty sure it just looks like a grimace. “Can I ask you something?”
A glint comes into Minho’s eyes. “Of course, come on in.” He opens the door widely, smiling in a distinctly cat-like fashion that is literally scrambling Chan’s brain.
Why does he look like he knows what Chan’s about to ask?
The door swings shut with a soft but audible click, and with the noise goes Chan’s last chance to run away.
“So?” Minho looks over once Chan’s inside the room. He’s enjoying this way too much.
There’s no way he doesn’t know what I want to ask.
“I… um, so I’ve been dating your sister for a few years,” Chan starts.
Minho actually snorts. “Yes, I’m aware.”
Chan can feel the tips of his ears turning bright red. “Right. Um, I just wanted your approval for – I’m planning to – well, with your permission, of course –”
The smirk on Minho’s face only grows with each stuttering word that comes out of Chan’s mouth. And in all honesty, he actually has no idea what he’s saying. All of the sentences he rehearsed in his head before coming here seem to have completely flown out of his brain, and from Minho’s expression, he just sounds like an idiot.
He keeps going anyway, because nervous Chan doesn’t always make the best decisions to make himself look good.
“Well – um, look, I just really love her a lot.” Chan looks down with the admission, knowing he’s definitely rambled too much already, but he needs to get on with it and ask the stupid question. “I… wantedtoaskifyouwouldbeokaywithmeaskingtomarryher.”
Minho leans forward, eyes innocently wide. “Sorry, I didn’t get that, can you repeat what you said again?”
Lee Minho, you are a grade-A asshole.
Face burning, Chan clears his throat. “I wanted to ask if you would be okay with me asking to marry her. Your sister, I mean.”
Silence. Minho leaves him in silence for five whole seconds which feel more like five millennia. Chan thinks he’s going to crumble into dust on the floor out of terror and embarrassment.
“Do you have a ring?” Minho finally asks.
Chan’s cheeks burn redder. “Not… not yet.”
“So you’ll need help picking one, then?” The dancer raises one perfect eyebrow.
“… Yes?”
“Beautiful. I’ll be there whenever you need me.” Minho smiles. “Anything else you wanted to ask?”
Chan just stands there, dumbfounded. “So… is your answer yes?”
The smile immediately drops off of Minho’s face, replaced by an eye roll and a sigh. “Yes, Bang Chan, you idiot.” He punches Chan’s shoulder. “No one’s ever going to fully deserve Y/N, but you’re the closest I think anyone’s going to get. You really thought I’d say no?”
Rubbing his arm, Chan smiles sheepishly. “You can’t blame me for being nervous.”
“What? Nervous, around me?” Minho laughs, sharp and loud. Even though Chan knows he’s teasing, it’s still a bit frightening. “Never would’ve thought that.”
“You’re just proving my point,” Chan says.
“No, I’m not.” Minho smiles, close-lipped and slit-eyed. It’s terrifying. “Now, off you go. And don’t come back unless you need help picking a ring!”
It takes Chan five minutes of sitting in the hallway, garnering strange looks from several people passing by, before his legs are stable enough to take him back to his own studio. Heart still pounding, he mentally crosses a line through step one.
Next comes step two. Chan purses his lips. Step two is a bit less scary than step one (mostly because it involves children and not Lee Minho), but no less challenging.
Well, he got through Minho. Chan sighs. He just has to hope that the kids will be as receptive to the idea of a new parent as Minho was to a brother-in-law.
. . . . .
The kids know that you and Chan are at least, in some shape or form, together. They might not understand the nuances, like how you’re technically dating but don’t always refer to yourselves as boyfriend and girlfriend (because it just feels so much deeper than that, somehow), but they understand that you two “like” each other (Jisung pretends to vomit every time he hears the word “love,” so Chan just uses the word “like” to avoid that) and thus live together.
They love it, most of the time. Hyunjin was a little put out when he found out he would have to share a room with two other boys, but after Minho moved out and Hyunjin realized he would get his uncle’s old (and slightly bigger) room, he happily accepted the new plan. Jisung and Felix were mostly just happy to live with their best friend.
(Children, Chan just thinks. They’re so easy and so hard to please.)
Of course, there are difficulties. Jisung’s sensitive and has more than once broken down when he thinks Chan isn’t giving him enough attention with a new boy in the household. Felix’s tantrums are rarer, but they exist, and Hyunjin is still getting used to sharing his mom with someone else.
They’re a family, though, a messy, mostly happy family that can pull together at the end of the day and whisper “I love yous” to each other before bedtime. And that’s something Chan values more than anything in the world.
Which is why obtaining his kids’ approval for officially tying the knot is something so important to him.
He gathers them together one day in the apartment with the promise of watching a cartoon show after he asks them something. Three pairs of big eyes stare up at him from the couch, and Chan feels his heart melting with love and racing with anxiety.
Chan takes a breath. “Do you know what marriage is?”
“Yeah!” Jisung pipes up. “It’s when a girl and a boy get together and kiss!”
The laughter spills out of Chan’s mouth before he can even think. “Well, not quite, Jisung,” he chokes out, trying to stifle his remaining giggles. “It’s when two people who love each other very much get together officially. Marriage can be between a woman and a man, a man and a man, or a woman and a woman. Any two people can get married.”
Three small heads bob their heads in understanding.
“I wanted to ask you three if you would be okay with me marrying Y/N.” Chan looks each of the boys in the eye. “Is it?”
Felix nods quickly. “Yes!”
Jisung furrows his eyebrows. “Are we still going to live together?”
Chan smiles. “Yes, Sungie.”
The other twin nods. “Okay!”
Hyunjin’s mouth pouts slightly. “Will I have to call you Papa?”
A little piece of Chan’s heart breaks, but he tries not to show it. “No, of course not, Hyunjin.” He smiles as brightly as he can. “You can keep calling me Channie or Uncle Channie or whatever you want. You don’t have to call me Papa if you don’t want to.”
Hyunjin’s round, dark eyes gaze into his with a solemnity Chan honestly didn’t know toddlers could have. “Do you want me to call you Papa?”
Oh, fuck.
What the hell does Chan say to that?
With a sigh, he decides to be honest. “I would love it if you did, Hyunjin, but like I said, you don’t have to. I’ll never force you to do something you really don’t want to.”
There are a few seconds of silence, then Hyunjin nods. “Okay. You can marry my Mama.”
A weight lifts itself off of Chan’s chest and he smiles, freer this time. “Thank you, kids. One more thing – don’t tell Y/N about this!” He looks into each of their eyes, trying to convey how serious he is but in a fun way. “It’s a secret, okay?”
“Like a spy mission?” Jisung bounces in excitement.
The smile on his face widens. “Yes, Sungie. Like a spy mission.” He looks at the other two boys. “Do you promise? Pinky promise?” He holds out his pinkie.
The three resulting shouts of “YES!” make Chan hope their neighbors won’t come knocking. But even if they did, Chan thinks, he wouldn’t care.
He’d go to the ends of the earth to defend these three kids, after all.
. . . . .
Step three goes by in a flash. Out of sheer anxiety, Chan actually takes a full day off from work and calls Minho for help in finding the perfect ring.
Miraculously, he finds something within his budget range – a silver band with a small diamond set in the center. It’s simple but elegant, and the diamond glints beautifully in the sunlight. Really, the ring matches the way Chan often finds himself summing up your existence.
So only the last step remains: the actual proposal.
Looking back, Chan has no idea why he thought each of the other steps was so stressful. This is pure stress, he thinks, waiting for the perfect time to pop the question. Should he plan something extravagant? Or should he just go with the flow? When is the perfect time, anyway? What constitutes “perfect” in your mind? In his?
Minho just tells him to wait for the moment he thinks is “right.” But what the hell does “right” even mean?
“You’ll figure it out.” The dancer gives Chan a bright grin, patting his shoulder. “And if you don’t, I’ll tear you limb from limb.”
Chan just puts his face in his hands and screams.
. . . . .
When Chan proposes, the sky is dark. The kids are already tucked in bed, and you’re sitting on the couch, leaning into his shoulder as you mindlessly scroll through your phone.
Absently strumming his guitar, Chan smiles down at your face, illuminated by your phone’s glow. As if sensing him staring, you look up as well. “Sing me something?” you murmur.
“Of course, love.” He leans down to kiss the top of your head. “What song?”
“Anything you choose,” you reply. “Anything.”
Chan thinks for a moment, then starts strumming the instrument.
Softly, with mood, tightly hug her
Use it once a day, every day…
When your eyes meet hers, smile.
The characteristic chords of one of your favorite songs make you relax even further into Chan’s body, a smile blooming across your face. He badly wants to stop playing and just kiss you good and full, but he keeps his fingers strumming the guitar.
Let her breathe under a different sky, a different wind,
Sometimes, kiss her without a plan…
Chan almost stops playing.
Without a plan.
He doesn’t have a plan. He doesn’t have any proper plan on how he’s going to pull the little box out of his pocket and ask the question. But now…
Maybe he’s got an idea.
The final chords die away, and Chan finally gets his long-awaited kiss when you sit up lethargically, pressing your lips to his softly. “Are you awake enough for one more?” he whispers when you pull away.
“Mm, one more.” You nod happily, snuggling back into his side. “Then sleep.”
Chan takes a breath. One chance, Chan. This is your chance.
His fingers start strumming a song very familiar by now to him and the boys. From the way your eyes light up, you recognize it too.
It doesn’t have words. It’s just a collection of guitar chords, hastily arranged in a sweet, rough melody. In the track version, it would have piano, but because Chan only has two hands, he has to make do with just the strings of the guitar.
It’s the first song he ever wrote for his twins, the song he created that day so many years ago when they weren’t even born, when they were still kicking in their mother’s stomach. They think of it as their family song, the song he plays when the twins are sad, when they can’t get to sleep, or when they just want to hear something nice.
The last strains of the song fade away and Chan looks at you to see a tear glittering on your cheek. “You play that when the boys are sad,” is all you say. “It’s your family song.”
Chan smiles softly. “But you’re part of the family too.”
When he pulls out the box, your eyes widen. “Chan –”
“Shh.” He presses a finger gently to your lips. “Y/N, the past few years you’ve been with me have been some of the best of my life, and I can’t ever thank you enough for staying with me all this time.” There’s a tear welling up in Chan’s eye, but he blinks it away. “I would love to spend the rest of my life with you, if you would marry me.”
There’s a moment of silence that nearly gives Chan a heart attack. What if you say no?
“You – you stupid romantic sap.” The tears are really sliding down your cheeks now, but your mouth is smiling wide. “Yes, of course I’ll marry you, Chan. I’ll marry you.”
Chan can’t speak as he slides the ring onto your finger with trembling hands. Throat choked, he can only pull you close, burying his face in your shoulder as your tears soak his shirt. “I love you so much,” you whisper.
He pulls back just enough for to see your eyes sparkling with love, so much love. Your touch intoxicates him, with your fingers pressing gently against his skin as you press your lips to his in a sweet, sweet kiss.
Yes, he thinks. You’re the right partner for him.
The perfect partner for him.
Teary-eyed, he smiles. “I love you too.”
