Dirt (said twice 😳)

Her hair was matted badly, and Ratty didn’t know if it was mostly just dirt that could be washed out or if it was so badly tangled she’d have to get it cut. Either way it did not look comfortable at all. Her lips were dry and cracked, and her nails were long with dirt buried under them.

Sharp

Ratty’s hands went up slowly, they tipped their face down while keeping a steady voice, “Whoa now Big Guy, I think there's been a mistake. I’m not here to hurt anyone, let alone the little Imp… So… You’ll put them down, yeah?” They kept their sight sharp on him.

Intricate (oh god old writing)

She read off a bunch of safety rules for Zyan to obey for life. Such as no harming another being. No screaming. No breaking things or causing any tantrums, ect. The list was fairly intricate.

Softly

Mouse started lulling after that, as if her head was too heavy for her to hold up. She stopped responding, and when Clarence shook her shoulder she only moaned softly. She didn’t flinch or move.

Quiet

“Ah my old eyes can’t read such fine print anymore...it's only giving me a headache.” She sighs dramatically, but beams and says that Francis would probably enjoy it, she knows the story off by heart anyways. Francis is quiet for a moment as the book is passed into his hands. He inspects the well loved cover, spying all the uncreased and forgotten dog ears and warped yellow pages as he flips through it. 

“I could...read it out loud if you’d like….”

Contact

Growing on the dead decaying forest around them thin stalked and button capped mushrooms grow. They are absolutely everywhere the further they go in, and emit a soft neon blue light. Francis ahead of him is gracefully avoiding the mushrooms, and Sam attempts to do the same, but he's not known for being the most delicate and graceful guy. Even the smallest brush against the small mushrooms releases glittering spores into the dark surroundings catching the light and twinkling softly. Sam thought it was a beautiful sight even if he was terrified for his life right now. Remembering he shouldn’t be getting distracted he followed Francis silently. Francis pauses to look back at Sam, their eyes making contact and for some reason Sam’s heart races even if it's only Francis pointing to the side they should be going.

Think

In their time spent together he's only seen Francis have a nightmare once before in the forest but it passed quickly. This one however was a lot stronger, Francis thrown into a fit and snarling like a beast baring fangs and claws. Suddenly he starts clawing at himself and Sam is moving before he can even think. He restrains Francis' hand with much struggle, attempting to shake the other awake and frantically calling to him to come to his senses and wake up.

Rise

Francis says he can barely make out the sound above him of Father giving some sort of speech, and a thunderous roar of applause. Then suddenly the platform that Francis is standing on starts to rise. Once he reaches the top, bright lights overwhelm him, many flashing cameras and the white glow of stage lights making it hard for him to see. Thousands of people are before him, for his entire life he has never seen the faces of this many humans...the only others being the other blessed children and Johan’s. He’s disoriented, his breathing too loud in his own ears, sensitive eyes burning. His first presence in front of the people being that of fear swimming beneath his skin.

Hello ! I positively adore the running joke of Idia unknowingly finding Lilia to be the coolest guy ever whenever he doesn't know it's him, like when Silver described his father, or obviously with muscle red. I can't say what'd be funnier, Idia finding out his online best friend is actually Lilia, resident spooky hyper fairy; or them both never finding out, and it'd become even more ridiculous as time goes on. How do you think it'll play out ? You're always so on point

(Also, though it makes sense, I'm still devastated bat boy didn't get a ticket for the Halloween skeleton train : ( does anyone mentions him at some point ? Like how he'd have fit right in with all those Halloween town little freaks, and how he'd have impressed them with his spooks and scared techniques; after all he's been every Briar Valley's children worst fear on Halloween for centuries. I'm on the eng server and I didn't wanna spoil myself by watching the whole thing on youtube)

you and me both, Idia and Lilia being oblivious online BFFs (+ Idia being incredibly intimidated any time Silver brings up his jock gamer dad) is my favorite running joke/subplot. 🤝 it's SO good, to the point where I also am unsure if I actually want it to ever be resolved or not...maybe, like, as a post-canon stinger or something? everyone's standing around covered in overblot ink, and Idia and Lilia's phones go off at the same time...

(legit I do think this is part of why Idia couldn't be present for Lilia's dream, because for some reason Lilia decided he was going to just. embody his past self online. he probably quotes his own battle strategies or whatever in the middle of boss fights. Idia didn't pick up on the whole "oh how weird that we both live on a super remote island" thing, but he would spend thirty seconds listening to General Lilia describing siege warfare and be like "w-wait")

all that aside, however it does end up happening, I do see Lilia being very blasé and all "oh! cool!" about it. y'know, taking it very much in stride! and Idia...very much not.

as for Lilia sadly missing out on Halloweentown shenanigans...he does get one little mention as part of an offhand reference to the light music club, but so far no one has brought up how this basically is just Lost In the Book of Liliatown (Sebek's been too busy yelling about not getting to be in the same group as Malleus). 😔 honestly though, it's probably for the best that he got left out, because he would just settle right in and refuse to ever leave. canon would shatter. we would miss out on all the delightful angst of episode 7 because Lilia is too busy eating poisonous shrubbery inbetween practicing his very best screams, and no one can pull him away from it.

(I can hope for a sequel next year though...)

Finally: The NoHats AU doodles. Plus some sprite edits.

Usually I'd let things speak for themselves and keep my chattering in the tags, but I'll ramble about my context thoughts...

So. First of all here's a link (x) to the Nohats Origin Post for those coming in and going ????.

Anyway. These doodles are not in any obvious chronological order, though Loop going from pilfered bandolier (my headcanon for how Siffrin has all those pockets) -> custom outfit made by Isabeau, is supposed to generally denote 'just after the ending' -> 'a few months down the line'.

And speaking of, Design & Characterisation notes:

Overall: NoHats is suppooooosed to have the range to not just be ULTIMATE MISERY ALL THE TIME (but if you're a major whump/angst fan. go fucking nuts.) so these are supposed to be. The steps toward overcoming and living with grief but. The Misery Is Kind Of The Punchiest Part.... Oops....

Mirabelle: Taking the lead, continuing to carry the weight of the world on her shoulders. In the game proper she's already shown to, while yes, be emotionally fragile at times, be prone to trying to hold the team together. I feel she'd do the same here. It also would help that she'd presumably be medicated again? But I can't imagine her chosen-one anxieities would be super ailed by the death of her friend. I wanted to try and give her more differences? She follows the change belief after all and is thus liable to switch up her style in general... But I didn't have a strong vision for this, so. The ball is in anyone's court. Her design changes here are keeping one of Sif's safety pins a la qpr bonding earring, and has the bell pendant at Loop's (oddly pushy) suggestion.

Isabeau: Taking it. Badly. Depression mullet and beard in tow. However, you best believe he is trying real badly to hide it. Loop very much does not reveal their identity to him because What The Fuck Would That Even Do. That's Scary. but they do try to comfort him while mentally regarding him "off limits". Backs themselves into some very unfortunate corners by alluding to their unfulfilled relationship with their Fighter as a point of common ground. I don't imagine this would go super great when recontextualised later after Loop is inevitably found out. Just in general oh good god what the fuck. this is like a radioactive pit of survivor's guilt.

Bonnie: Taking it probably The Worst. This is a child. Who was already feeling guilt. This is who everyone else is trying to keep it together for. Mirabelle and Isabeau would likely be putting up far less of a front without Bonnie around. They take the hat and take on Pocket Duty. They also have slightly more sif-y hairstyle but... Don't worry about it. They'd have Nille to fall back on once she's picked back up, and Loop almost certainly attempts to redouble efforts on making them feel better but seeing as how closed-off Bonnie can already be, it'd likely be difficult. However they would probably take Loop's identity reveal best...?

Odile: Odile's design.... ! Does not seem to have changed? How odd! Well. I'm sure she's dealing with things in a regular and non-cloistered manner. I already think that a regular Postcanon Activity for Odile could be her finding out about the potential for sif/loop to translate books and thus Knowledge in their native tongue assuming that ability sticks around postgame. Something something culture can never truly be wiped out etc etc. But putting it in this context. Makes it more desperate, more of a deflection for something else.

Loop: Helpful Loop. Well. They win! I feel like the entirety of ISAT being about Siffrin's mental state means I don't need to spill much ink here? You get it I think. I can't outdo the source material man. Anyway I imagine Loop is given clothes by Isabeau before they know who they are, but after they've become genuine friends. The outfit is in genuineness, on both sides from Loop and Isa, in having the cloak be a nod in respect to Siffrin, since Loop's "shared culture" would have to come up vis a vis cultural funerary traditions. Hard to avoid divulging that one...

it's cool if I ramble about yes man unprompted right. ofc it is. i wanna talk about his capacity for violence bc I think it's one of the most interesting parts of his character

yes man is nice. obviously he's nice. but yes man is not a kind character. he helps you, sure, but that's mostly just because he likes you specifically (and even that's debatable depending on how you play). i feel like this is exemplified w his pre-combat lines– "a pulled trigger's a happy trigger!" and "woo! bang bang!" like, he's clearly having fun! he takes glee in killing people, but not because he's sadistic, but because he just doesn't realize the weight of taking a life- or if he does, it just doesn't matter to him.

he was programmed without a sense of morality or an understanding of mortality. to him, violence is second nature. to him, violence is no different from play. he's like a guard dog– he doesn't care who he's shooting or why, he's just excited to do the thing he's good at.

and on one hand, he is a fantastic guard dog. but on the other hand, six must watch how... efficiently he kills, and wonder if they'll ever wind up on the receiving end of it. he wouldn't do it as long as he likes six, of course, but... if yes man was given good enough reason to believe six deserved to die, would he even hesitate? would their history and relationship mean anything to him? or would six just be another target, forgotten about as quickly as a radroach you stepped on?

six can only hope they never need to find out.

pyramid game is such a perfect little drama for the sapphics because you've got a whole demented psychological thriller going on about high school girls creating a whole fake social class system that results because one bored little princess bitch thought it'd be funny, and you've got all these dynamics that can only be boiled down to some kind of love story because like. ye lim and eun jeong's dynamic? the princess idol and her athlete bodyguard. soo ji and ja eun's dynamic? the cold mastermind and the compassionate heart. even whatever da yeon and seol ha have got going on? typical hitter and loyal dog dynamic. the list can go on.

Duke hc?

Duke has been beefing with Jason from day one and Jason doesn't know why. I mean Duke straight up bullies this man relentlessly like

Jason: That hotdog cart on Mcullough is actually pretty good Duke: okay but you literally shot a child so why should I trust anything you say? Jason: That was one time-

It's the kind of petty bullying that you really can't do anything about except just stand there and take it.

Not to mention, Duke's roast game is unparalleled.

Unrelated but sharing it in this one anyways:

Duke is very musically cultured. He's good at predicting when a song is going to blow up and he has very broad yet thorough taste. By which I mean he is very cogniscent of the musicality and the meaning of the lyrics. Like this man is a connoisseur. He also regularly quotes Kendrick Lamar (usually at Tim, Jason, Dick, and Bruce). Steph joins him on the last one.

He's very judgemental of the other bats' music tastes and has curated multiple personalized playlists for each of them which they instantly fall in love with. The only drawback here is that Duke has named the playlist to insult each of them. For example bruce's playlist is titled "When the furry is too depressed to go to therapy". Bruce listens to it religiously. Dick's playlist has basically lady gaga's entire discography and some early taylor swift. Duke's own playlist is a combination of hip hop, indie alt pop, and RnB that somehow just works together really well.
