*cackles* I managed to get 400g of ‘ice cream’ merino & milk fibre singles on my bobbin. I’m planning to measure off 3 equal lengths of singles to 3 ply with a sparkly silver thread.

I see your “to be read” pile and raise you a “to be spun” pile.

I went to my local crafting thrift store today, which is kind of a toss up because their inventory rotates so frequently, but they almost always have some cool finds.
But.
Today I found three hanks of gorgeous wool roving for really cheap.
Tumblr media
It was only $17 for all three.
I cannot wait to spin them once I’m done with the yarn I’m spinning for someone as a gift.

A very exciting package arrived for me today from BC with wool roving for the first thrummed mittens I’m going to knit!! These colours are absolutely gorgeous, and the wool is sooo soft. I was a little bit worried because I’ve never worked with roving before, so I was a bit concerned it would be scratchy (a big no-no for my sensory issues). Not this stuff! It’s very silky, and will keep me so warm this winter. Can’t wait to pick up some yarn and get these started!
Fellow Canadian knitters/fibre arts people, this wool roving is from OdysseyFibreArts on Etsy, and was very affordable with free shipping in Canada. Highly recommend them for your wool roving needs! :)

Failed my one goal for the fiber festival: don’t buy anything. Got some Navajo Churro roving, 90% Alpaca/10%merino blended batt, and two more bags of Romney roving.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I got this exact Romney a year ago, but the booth sold it at a 50% discount and it felt too good to be true, so I only got a little in case it was moth infested or something. But no, completely fine wool, and I kicked myself for not cleaning her out. She had the same discounts so I got twice as much today.
Tumblr media
Also, I brought my whidbey bag (got a lot of compliments on it hehe) to carry everything and got to tell the Shaggy Bear Farms owner that I’d made it from Zinnias wool. That was a very satisfying conversation.

THATS WHY MY CAT KEPT STEALING MY WOOL ROVING AND TRYING TO EAT IT. I thought it was a hunting thing, fluffy hair that smells like an animal in the shape of a small animal, but NO. He just wanted the mom smell!! And he kept disrupting my spinning!!

Wool Dryer Balls
The sustainability of wool is truly amazing. The cast aside wool that isn’t good enough for spinning can be used in different ways, and this post is focusing on a favorite: wool dryer balls. If you aren’t familiar with these, they’re a natural alternative to dryer sheets. They’re said to reduce the time it takes clothes to dry, therefore running the dryer for less time and saving energy. They’re…

Eeeeeeeeeee! Look what arrived yesterday! The largest fibre order I have EVER made and the currency conversion was horrific, but these colour ways are just. so. gorgeous! I have no regrets. Fibres are handdyed by Fossil Fibres.

Sometimes life is really crazy and we need to take a step back and do something meditative. For me, that’s fibre projects.
Like a lot of people, my creativity is dampened by stress. There comes a point where I know if I sit down to draw, I’m just going to get frustrated and discouraged - so I lose myself in something beautiful and repetitive, something that I can touch, something that connects me to nature. Playing with fibre is what does it for me 🥰
Here, I’ve taken a bunch of roving samples I’ve had lying around and organized them into gradient fractal, ready to be spun 😊 I’ll definitely have a relaxing evening tonight ❤️

Ooo! She brought this set back again this year!
Ok. So. I have been working on this spinning project, I got this fade pack of roving braids (unspun wool) from my favorite wool vendor, Fossil Fibers. This beaut here
Tumblr media
They come with 6 braids but I got 2 packs, so the same amount shown here. I have recently been fascinated by how much the colors will stray if you break them up by weight and am super into cable plied yarn because they are supposed to be resistant to pilling. And the cable ply is technically a 4 ply, so you need to make 4 singles. (Bottom left in diagram)
Tumblr media
We have our ply plan and our wool. Time to split TWELVE BRAIDS BY WEIGHT. And lengthwise because we gotta get those color changes
Tumblr media
This took me like 3 hours...
