my feeds for the last day for some reason: -filled with multiple cases of people just casually shitting on my industry and our hard work again like usual-
me: something save me
in my youtube sub box, like a beacon of light:
#jennilargh#IM SO EXCITED#these videos have been so huge for us you guys don’t have any idea#anyway negative jenna coming through who i dont like to let out often#but wow in a time when our industry is just keeping its head above the water. the last thing i like to see is casual dunking on vfx/cgi lol#i dont see many anti AI people coming out of the woodwork to defend us bc we're so hated. but guess what#our work is done by humans who are actually passionate and love what we do and everyone assumes its dirty disgusting evil computers#so when it actually IS made by a computer will any of these people come out of the woodwork & pretend they always supported us lol#im guessing: they wont#but with these videos at least we can TRY to change the general public's nasty tune towards us. WE LOVE PRACTICAL. WE LOVE DIGITAL#ITS ALL FILMMAKING & THE RIVALRY WAS MADE UP BY THE MEDIA. LITERALLLYYYYYYYYYY

a great way to combat genAI in the future would be educating kids (and teens and college students and all ppl) on art way more.
#i had art classes growing up but i know a lot of ppl didn't and even less kids get art classes nowadays#we need all kinds of art classes too! music and history and painting and woodshop and drawing and life drawing#i think art history is especially important bc it connects us to our past and shows why art is so important#and all kinds of art classes help kids develop different important skills#like fine motor skills and critical thinking and making choices and noticing details and how to really SEE things rather than just looking#and a lot of art skills like woodworking and ceramics and sewing are all very practical basic adult skills that we should all get to learn#there's reasons arts and crafts and other skill based electives are the first to go and its not just bc they're undervalued#its cause a population that feels capable and confident and skilled and knows how to think critically#is harder to make work shitty jobs for shitty pay#harder to control!#same reason they're banning so many books and trying to make education worse#damn maybe i should learn how to teach better#im already planning to at least try doing a workshop for adults but maybe if i end up liking that#i could work towards being able to teach kids#i feel like teaching kids would be harder cause idk what concepts they do or dont know at whatever age they are#id have to do research and maybe talk to someone who has experience teaching art to kids#but even a simple art class would be beneficial i think#like going outside to draw things in nature maybe#or portrait drawing#or a class on how to make comics or animate on paper to impress their friends lol#i would've loved that!#id have to do that with the help of another teacher maybe#idk#vague future plans#anyway the reason education would help combat ai is cause ppl would learn abt what goes onto making art#all the choices and skills and thought#and they'd be able to more easily see the difference btwn real art and ai images and understand why making art is important

It's a box! Or more accurately a box made up of minor mistakes. Been working on improving my dovetails and trying out some extra flourishes with the lid and base. It's kinda a mini version of the school box described in the Joiner and Cabinet maker. (Which incidentally, the full sized one is next on my project list.).
Overall the base moldings ended up a bit too wide so it looks a tad awkward. Also I didn't want to spend anymore time finishing it so it likely needs another coat or two of shellac.

i feel like i’ve been WAITING for the other shoe to drop wrt people’s opinions about watcher for this very reason. not that i think the reaction is completely not understandable but the greater the parasocial relationship, the greater the fallout as soon as public opinion shifts. you don’t have a relationship with these people they’re just content creators, chill
#ready to see all the people coming out of the woodwork to say how they’ve never liked watcher/unsolved/etc#and act like it’s ‘cringe’ now that their fanbase feels ‘betrayed’#it’s great to have a fanbase but parasocial relationships will bite you in the ass every single time#it’s interesting too though because i’ve seen watcher have a LOT of support as they’ve tried to build something separate from buzzfeed#so this is the first time they’re getting real pushback about a decision they’ve made wrt shifting their platform/expanding their brand#so ig we’ll have to see how they react moving forward#but it’s soooo interesting to see how enthusiastically people dump on buzzfeed#AND how many people dump on youtube and how over the years so much of its functionality has been stripped away#how many ads you have to sit through. how much sponsored content there is now. etc#but when they try to do the same thing with youtube that they did with buzzfeed it’s like how dare you not lick their boots#because if you lick their boots and we lick their boots we can watch stuff for free#anyway.#even if you don’t any to say it’s a bad business decision. it’s not like there’s not precedent for it#1) the move away from buzzfeed was successful and 2) what about the dnd shows or whatever#don’t you guys watch those dnd shows that are ‘behind a paywall’#don’t you guys have netflix hulu disney hbo amazon etc ad nauseum that are actually owned by billion dollar corporations#don’t you guys get on your high horses about supporting independent artists all the time#it’s interesting that people will profess to be such big fans!!! and feel like they’re friends!!!!#but how dare they think their work might be worth paying for#idk. idk. it’s entitlement though#sorry for the rant i’m ALSO not trying to blindly defend a bunch of people i don’t know#but you guys are being soooo fucking annoying about it lol#anyway i’m still waiting to see what their response is going to be from here before jumping to conclusions#also to be fair i am biased to be lenient about decisions made by independent filmmakers vs big studios etc#like everybody freaking out about the ai art used in late night with the devil. who cares honestly#‘they should’ve paid a real artist!!’ idk maybe their budget didn’t cover that#i don’t want it to become the industry norm but at the end of the day i would rather see indie shit getting made then only seeing#the big studios (who don’t have equitable practices anyway!!) making shit#but that’s another conversation. just to be transparent about my viewpoint on this kind of thing#maybe controversial but also can’t we have nuance. for once.

I'm imagining a-Lan trying to get along with her in-laws - how does that work? does Lan Fang have any sibs or is it just his parents?
I've always imagined Lan Fang to have either a younger sister or a much older sister who moved to the women's side of the Cloud Recesses before he was born, but I haven't put much thought into what she or his parents would be like, except that Lan Fang received his mother's family name so that he could become an inner member of the clan (his father is a non-cultivating carpenter who spends most of his time working on commissions at his workshop in Caiyi).
#asks#lan fang's father comes from a family that usually practices ruzhui marriage#not in the sense of poorer men marrying into the homes of wealthier brides#but in the sense that the family businesses were usually left in the hands of daughters#and that sons either struck out on their own or joined other families as matrilocal husbands#lan fang's sister takes over dad's business as a cultivating woodworker#which is why his mom and grandparents are the only family members living at the cloud recesses full-time by the time he marries a-lan#reference#lan fang

July 2023 Book Announcements
Adult Fiction TikTok creator, CEO of Beegrizwrites, and romance book ghostwriter Becca Grischow‘s HOMETOWN ADVANTAGE, a queer twist on the traditional small-town holiday rom-com, where two former classmates reunite for a drunken, banter-filled night and a long weekend of hijinks, falling hard along the way; and a second novel, pitched loosely as Bridesmaids meets Ashley Herring Blake, to Nidhi…

By the way, you can improve your executive function. You can literally build it like a muscle.
Yes, even if you're neurodivergent. I don't have ADHD, but it is allegedly a thing with ADHD as well. And I am autistic, and after a bunch of nerve damage (severe enough that I was basically housebound for 6 months), I had to completely rebuild my ability to get my brain to Do Things from what felt like nearly scratch.
This is specifically from ADDitude magazine, so written specifically for ADHD (and while focused in large part on kids, also definitely includes adults and adult activities):
Here's a link on this for autism (though as an editor wow did that title need an editor lol):
Resources on this aren't great because they're mainly aimed at neurotypical therapists or parents of neurdivergent children. There's worksheets you can do that help a lot too or thought work you can do to sort of build the neuro-infrastructure for tasks.
But a lot of the stuff is just like. fun. Pulling from both the first article and my own experience:
Play games or video games where you have to make a lot of decisions. Literally go make a ton of picrews or do online dress-up dolls if you like. It helped me.
Art, especially forms of art that require patience, planning ahead, or in contrast improvisation
Listening to longform storytelling without visuals, e.g. just listening regularly to audiobooks or narrative podcasts, etc.
Meditation
Martial arts
Sports in general
Board games like chess or Catan (I actually found a big list of what board games are good for building what executive functioning skills here)
Woodworking
Cooking
If you're bad at time management play games or video games with a bunch of timers
Things can be easier. You might always have a disability around this (I certainly always will), but it can be easier. You do not have to be this stuck forever.
#actually autistic#executive dysfunction#neurodivergent#adhd#not news#hope#at least it's been very hopeful for me

Okay we know enough about ourselves as children let’s do adults (answer as many or as few as you want):
1) most impactful movie or show you watched in the last ten years
2) one skill you would magick upon yourself if possible
3) last book that really punched you in the gut—and if you read both one for fiction and nonfiction
4) one chore you would give many things to never do again
5) fictional house you would steal for you
6) media you would give many MORE things to enjoy for the first time again
7) one bad habit you would get rid of with the powers of a dying god (because that’s the only cure you can think of that would work)
8) one thing you’ve done or can do you you think society should build statues of you over
—Go!
#I want to know you NOW#x men 97#sewing or woodworking (leave me alone)#Consumed by Aja Barber and Blanche on the Lam by Barbra Neely#(I have several more books like this; When No One is Watching by Alyssa Cole reconvinced me I do like modern books)#washing dishes—I have done my time#house in practical magic#series of unfortunate events#forgetting to brush my teeth#I have ton literal tons of emotional labor and everyone should bow to me for getting anything else done

[ jungle ] sender and receiver navigate through a lush jungle
Making their way through the leaves, Kurapika had to look twice at where he was going to step before finally taking the step, to avoid making a false step and ending up being sprained by the large roots of those giant trees that protruded from the ground. "In a way, these trees remind me of those in Lukso" He looked up, where the treetops formed a large lattice that almost looked like some kind of cage that kept them trapped in the jungle. "There, the trees were incredibly tall, many of them had their roots outwards just like these, and there were certain places where their crowns were so leafy that you couldn't see the night sky. Of course, that was when you went deeper into the forest" Taking a small jump, Kurapika went down a marked slope in the ground, while the two hunters went deeper and deeper into the heart of the jungle "Although of course, aesthetically, the trees of Lukso were very different from these… there spiral shapes predominated, but not like in the center of the trunks of these trees, but rather, on the outside, like the shape of the tree itself" Kurapika stopped in a small, very small clearing as he looked around. The immensity of the jungle was almost overwhelming, but his sense of adventure made his heart beat with excitement. "So, how far in should we go to get that wood you were talking about?"
Kurapikas heartbeat was a gioioso melody that danced sweetly around Senritsus keen hearing and made it impossible for her not to smile. Without her even noticing she had started to tap her fingers against her leg after this melody while she carefully walked beside him, avoiding the roots with much smaller feet and much shorter legs that made it harder to cross the thick roots that would only become bigger deeper into the jungle. But it was good this way. The streaks of sunlight still falling in thin lines like blades cutting throught he canopy of leafs was warm, the noises of the animals in the underbush around them were lively, and Kurapikas excited heartbeat was a inspirational like a song that made one want- need!- to jump up and move when listening to it: "Mhmmmm, now that sounds grazioso. Don´t mind me already thinking what I would be build with wood twisted drammatico into spirals. A harph maybe. That would be beautiful aesthetically. When we visit Lukso, I need to collect some of this wood for drying and further work.", Senritsus voice was a content singsang that mixed with the rustling of the leafs around them: " Though my Craft-Master would say its not about the beauty of the looks but about the sound the wood can help the instrument to have- its thickness its form, its consistancy."
Their voices and steps echoes into the jungle and reflected on the treetrunks and undergrowth that showed Senritsu clearly how the path ahead was lookign for them, even if all she saw was the thick green around them: "....mhmmm, around three days deeper into the forest. You will notice early enough when you can´t breath anymore." There was a certaine hitch in the others heartbeat and the young woman looked up to the man, just shaking her head with a gently humm as she patted her rucksack: "Do not sing me that worried melody, Kurapika, I have breathingmasks for us."
"I really do not want to bore you with woodworker-talk, Kurapika." , she gifted him with a amused smile- there had been a tingle of ache in her legs for some time now and witht he trees and roots becoming bigger and the area harder to traverse the ache that made her bones feel step by step more like splinters became more. She stopped for a second, leaning a hand on a tree and stretching and pulling up her legs by turn to ease the pain: "Mhmmm, its like moonwood- have you read about that before? Woodworkers have the folklore that depending on the moonphase and the moonlight under which you cut the wood, that wood will have different features depending on the moonphase. For example wood cut during a decreasing moon has more bound water in it and therefor it will not lose its form during the drying process. This way the wood is more dense and molds and insects are hindered in eating into the wood which rises its quality and longlivity." The musician shaked one leg carefully until the ache had eased a little, so she could continue the way deeper between the trees: "However, we do not want moonwood- my client asked for midnightwood. In Winter, when the light is sparse and it is cold wood grows only a little but it is also harder than usual. My client asked for midnightwood because it is wood that had from sapling until full growth only grown in darkness and therefor the wood is very forte. So we need a place where there had never been sunshine." "Which is this forests abyss-zone; a place so deep in the woods that the treecrowns block every sunlight and the only source of nutrients are the rotting, already dying trees from which the other living trees can take from. Thats also why we need the breathingmasks- the trees are growing so dense that barely any air reaches that deep into the forest and the gas of the rotting plantmatter is hardly breathable." There was a moment of hestiation in Senritsus melodic voice and she tilted her head to the side, listening attentive to Kurapikas breathing. She did not liked the thought that this breathingmelody would become laboured. She did not liked the thought of the excitment in his heartbeat would be replaced by tension over not seeing sunlight, over having troubl breathing, over hearing the animals in the jungle that had become as massive as the trees. Automatically she reached out, tapping a gentle melody against the mans sleeve as calming as a lullaby.
"....I am not going to say it is going to be a compiacevole trip or scorrendo work. In fact, cutting the wood and bringing it out of the forest will be a hundred times more exhausting than it should normally be." She thought about the last days in Yorkshin and Kurapikas pale face that had turned uncomfortably thin and uncomfortably small against the sickbed in the days of early september. A worried frown drew a line as deep as a scar between the womans big eyes-she was worried to see the man in this state again. She was worried that this would be too exhausting for him and that she- again! again, again, again, as if one time was not already a failure, as if one time was not already enough, as if one time was not already a nightmare- her Hatsu that was so spcifically made to heal, would not be able to help him. Senritsu looked up to Kurapika for a moment, just a moment, very concerned but also very gently. SHe would miss that excited melody she enjoyed so much now. She would miss it even more if it would be replaced by that slow and barely hearable song that she had heard when he had been sick back in Yorkshin and she had slept in the same room as him just to make sure she was close because she had been scared by the idea that this slow melody could stop completly and she woudl wake up to nothing but silence utting lik a knife into her much too keen hearing: "...I would not take it badly if you want to turn around, Kurapika. You can wait in a hotel in the city outside of the forest and I will come back in a week. I would not hold it against you at all, in fact-" She smiled, winking up to him in all good humor with grey eyes that now looked very black in the little light falling still on the small glade through the canopy of leafs above. Soon even this streaks of light cutting through the dimness would be gone too, soon even such a small glade would nolonger be found between the massive roots of the oldest tree in the jungles center, soon the small noises of the insects moving through the leafs would bereplaced by the trees cracking like the smallest branches under the deer that had in the deepest point of the jungle had turned as massive as whales at the deepest point of the ocean: "- maybe I would need even less than a week if I would know you would be waiting."
#v: es saß ein klein wild vöglein#skarletchains#midnightwood is not real but moonwood is an actual woodworker practice
