WOODLORE

Looking for one thing and finding something else seems to be the rule for this month. I found this children's book the other day, and it used to be one of my favorites. No story in it - just a series of poems about woodworking and amazing illustrations framed in the wood each page features. Look:

I - I want to be a bodger! The book is Woodlore by Cameron Miller and Dominique Falla. There are thirteen types of wood featured, a couple pages of more detailed info in the back, and the endplates are lovely line drawings of all the types of hand tools. It is just stunning!

So- what if Mr Everdeen was descended from a character from TBOSAS?

Such as perhaps- Sejanus Plinth?

He's a crack shot- Bullseye. Popular with people, charismatic- and with a rich family.

What if one woman decides to have this Peacekeeper's kid will see her set for life? Or at least lead to a better life for her child?

Then Sejanus is executed as a rebel, and the Gent, his friend, vanishes onto the train leaving the District.

She doesn't know Bullseye's parents, has no way to contact them if she did, and given the circumstances might not have used it if she did.

Baby Everdeen is raised by a single mother, one who knows a bit of woodlore herself- or one who strikes up a friendship with the Covey, given her son learns The Hanging Tree and Deep in the Meadow.

Heck, maybe it was Barb Azure's girl and she and Barb raised the baby together, with her girl giving Barb and the baby the Everdeen name.

I thought of saying Barb herself, but then how would the baby boy have seam gray eyes?
