update on the guillotine: it works! i have tested it on a 400 pages catalog and it cut through it like butter! i used it on my book and it made super clean edges, i'm so happy and excited, it's the best thing i've ever bought

also it can be fully taken apart so i can sharpen and clean/oil the blade very easily

Continuing to make progress on my new bench. Got the legs finished and the stringers setup. Marked out and cut two of the mortises into the top. Gotta take a break and sharpen my chisels up before the next two.

I have way too much power with my new chisels, they are sharp enough to just cleanly slice through pine. I sharpen them occasionally with sandpaper when I feel like they are requiring too much pressure to cut. I use a hairbrush to tap the backs of them to mark the wood to allow me to shave the wood to shape easier.

Here's my chisels, I mostly use the Craft brand gouge and the rectangular flat one the most. Also yes I am doing woodworking on my bed, I'm an adult and my parents won't stop me from doing things that I'll regret.

Update on the Quackerjack one, had to change the shape because I accidentally lopped off the toe bulb of one so done the same for the other one, luckily it's still good enough because if I accidentally plowed a gouge through it it was too small to not be brittle. I'm having to work with the grain because I had to use a paint stick.

Now it's time for the preliminary sanding of him then redoing the lines.

Time to color him, had to draw myself a little reminder of what goes where for the asymmetrical things so I won't mess up the coloring and have to sand it off because I'm not cutting out another Quackerjack from wood due to how time consuming it was.

Done making the cutest pocket sized Quackerjack possible, and yes when I draw him I give him two differently colored eyes and a tooth gap, it fits his personality perfectly.

I really got bored at midnight and said "time for arts and crafts" and just loaded up a typeset for a folio and changed it to a quarto and printed it and cut and folded and punched huh. That simple.

How we use some of our traditional handcrafting tools at the Cascade Handcrafted log yard. 🪵The Chisel on the left is used as a finishing tool for mortise and tenon, planing of door and window sills and notches.🪵The Gouge in the middle is used for carving, shaping, hollowing out and curved cuts. 🪵The Flaren on the right is used effectively on either side for planing, dressing and as a clean-up tool, rolling off the flared edge.
