So many now go on as if shows being cancelled after a single season is some new Netflix exclusive, but the entire history of television is filled with shows that were cut down in their prime, sometimes after only a couple of episodes had aired.

See the thing about Hannibal is that I get the impression that, for a lot of the fandom, it's their only Bryan Fuller show. Which, fair enough, it's a great show, but A. you're really missing out, and B. I think there's a direct link to this and the constant "Hannigram was queerbaiting" takes.
I get the temptation to look at the show, see that it was airing alongside shows like Sherlock and Supernatural, and lump it in with that same cultural moment, but I think doing so flattens the arc of Fuller's career to a frankly unconscionable degree.
Like, we're talking about a guy who used the pilot of his first show in 2003 to pretty clearly set up the main character's father as a closeted gay man, only to have him ruthlessly straightwashed when he had to leave the show five episodes in due to the horribly homophobic and shitty treatment he received from studio high-ups at MGM Television. The beating heart of Wonderfalls' first episode is Sharon's coming out to her sister.
Fuller has pushed for queer representation for decades at this point, so I think painting it as "Fuller and NBC just wanted the ratings and so they cynically crafted their show to appeal to gay people without ever intending to follow through" rather than "Fuller once again ran into mainstream network television's reticence to feature openly gay characters as anything other than jokes or bit parts" feels like a bit of a bad-faith reading.

I'm excluding specifically Fringe, Lost, and BSG, big shows that have all had fandoms on here, to a varying degree.

The whole Bryan Fuller thing has got me thinking about how we’re taught to relate to art as a cult of personality. Cinema specially is an inherently collective medium. A bunch of people were a part of making your favourite movie or TV show yet we’re activelly encouraged to think of it in terms of a specific author and to kinda love it as this author’s work. To look for more this author has made and try to find similarities between them. And then we find what we love the most about these pieces of art and project how it makes us feel into whoever we’ve decided is the author. Think of them as posessing the positive characteristics we see on their work somehow. Make them our friends. Then they do something and you’re reminded you don’t know them at all.
For about a decade Hannibal has been my favourite piece of media probably of all time. I know it had a lot of hands in its making and it is not a product of Bryan Fuller and Bryan Fuller alone. But there’s still a lot of him in it, for better or for worse. He’s all over the show and I grew up having certain thoughts about him because of it.
Idk guess I lost focus and had a parasocial relationship
