My most sacred ritual as a woman is chasing a love that evades me.
I don't know when I started to build altars for feeble men. All I know is that with every offering of flesh and blood, an erosion began.
Fleeting affections became my solace. Greedy caresses and poisonous mouths took their share. The damage left in their wake felt like something akin to love.
A veil fell over my eyes. I hid behind trapped doors and unkept hair. I chain smoked til my throat was parched, a punishment.
I waited and waited and waited. Seasons passed.
Why do I let you take from me?
Our most sacred ritual as women is our innate regeneration.
Through the ash and stubbornness and bitten nails and clawed thighs, I still stood. I rid the smell of foreign sheets and saliva from my flesh.
Something else, something more foreign, began to breathe life back into me.
Shadows still wandered the halls at night, but I learned to wander with them.
Velvet curtains were pushed aside, the sun illuminated a forgotten portrait. The apparition of my former self. Instead of kindling flames for another, I now light a candle for myself.
The scent of jasmine stirs in the air, soul music drifts from the back room.
In the morning, I revel in the fondness of my own breath. It was strange at first, not awakening to the boozy snore of another.
It was like my senses became attuned to another frequency.
The sensation of touching citrus, the sight of birthing foliage in a plant.
I sing a song that ceased to exist, its lyrics like a forgotten incantation.
In the evenings, I rejoice in the company that is myself.
There are still times where I find myself in the mouth of hungry company, a man who is more predator than lover, but they come few and far between these days.
Our most sacred ritual as women is the ability to guide ourselves to warmer days. To guide ourselves into a fortress of tenderness.

Nüshu (literally “women’s writing” in Chinese) is a syllabic script created and used exclusively by women in the Jiangyong County in Hunan province of southern China. Up until the late Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) women were forbidden access to formal education, and so Nüshu was developed in secrecy as a means to communicate. Since its discovery in 1982, Nüshu remains to be the only gender-specific writing system in the world. Read more here.

I wish we had more female characters like Eleanor Shellstrop. One of the most unlikable people you've ever met. Read a Buzzfeed article on most rude things you can do on a daily basis and decided to use that as a list of goals. Makes everyone's day worse just by being there. Dropped a margarita mix on the ground and tried to pick it up, only to get hit by a row of shopping carts which pushed her into the road where she was hit by a boner pill delivery truck, killing her instantly. Cannot keep a romantic partner despite being bisexual. Had a terrible childhood but will die before she gets therapy. Best employee at a scam company. Just the worst but also can't help but root for her to improve.
Absolute loser. Girl-failure. Bad at almost everything. Literally perfect female character.

im sorry rad fems sold you the lie that butches are only Non Threatening (TM) cis women with short hair who wear T-shirts and jeans with a carabiner, but the reality of the situation is a lot of butches are trans, genderqueer, physically imposing, big, male impersonators, hairy (especially including facial hair), sweaty, muscular, "ugly" and/or fat. some butches are into extreme body modification. some went bald. some are body builders. some are transfem butches who don't wanna overperform womanhood, take estrogen, or medically transition. some butches start testosterone strictly to feel more like a butch. some butches pass as cis men, and some need to do so in order to feel like their butch selves. soft butches are great, but that's not the "One Right Way" to be butch. the butches i'm attracted to would make a rad fem scream and cry and piss themselves on the floor.

things to ask yourself when designing a female character:
how much blood is she covered in
are her eyes filled with madness
can she rip things to shreds with her fingernails

I am currently watching the second half of Bridgerton Season 3 and I have some thoughts. I really did not like the first half for several reasons but the main issue on my mind right now is the question of women's writing. I am also currently ploughing through Mary Wollstonecraft's "Vindication for the Right of Woman" and I am finding it increasingly irksome and annoying as it is repetitive and, despite its feminist agenda, still quite restricting towards women. But then I stop myself and remind myself that the only reason I can have this opinion is because the freedom I experience today is exactly because of those women who fought against the regimes oppressing them and using every means necessary to make their voices heard. Can you imagine how depressing it must have been for Mary Ann Evans to have all of her accomplishments be accredited to a man's name? Or even worse, for Collette to have her work published under her husband's name and for him to reap all of the rewards??
I find myself in deep sympathy with Penelope this season because yes, Lady Whistledown is a gossip paper and yes she has hurt many people's reputations with it. But she also highlights some of the things Mary Wollstonecraft argues for: that it should be more important to act truly honest and virtuous instead of maintaining some false sense of propriety in order to keep a clean reputation. Lady Whistledown knows that and this is why she continuously calls out the members of the ton for their pretentious behaviour towards each other. Instead of preying upon the newest scandal they should acknowledge that they have all made mistakes in the past and aim to behave truly virtuously, with compassion and empathy for other people.
As we all should.

Idk who needs to hear this but take that early transition girl out. Dress her up all pretty and assure her that anyone who dares to say a negative word will have to contend with you. Do her makeup and gently talk her through the steps, do one eye for her and let her try the other one on her own. Kiss her lips and watch the way she grins like a maniac at the imprint that her black lipstick leaves behind. Take her out to the movies or to the mall, walk around and buy her a pair of good boots without letting her look at the price tag, watch the way she smiles shyly and swoons even while insisting she doesn't need them. Tell her 'My love. You loved them instantly and they had your size- it's fate, they're meant to be yours,' and then help her sit down in one of the mall chairs to put them on, watch the way she prances around in them like an excited little girl.
Hold her hand and talk to the lady at Rue 21 for her because you know she's insecure about her voice. Go in the dressing room with her and gently help her into the skirt she was eyeing- one foot, a second, shimmy, shimmy, up- followed by a wonderfully soft sweater that falls just right over her frame. Hug her from behind while she looks in the mirror and feels beautiful, basking in her euphoria. Whisper into her ear how proud you are of her- how brave she is, how beautiful, how honored you are to be able to share this journey with her.
Take her to dinner and kiss her while you wait for your food, run your hands down her freshly shaven arms and gently caress over the back of her neck. Offer her some of your ramen while you take a bite of her fried rice, and clumsily attempt to feed her a bite of sushi with some chopsticks.
And then. Take her home, with all the bags that now hold the beginnings of her new wardrobe, and help her hang them up, try them on. Let her have a fashion show and gently wipe her makeup off before sleep. Kiss her and caress her and shower her with affection, with praise and love and adoration. Let her melt into your arms and if she cries let the tears soak into your shirt. Gently caress her hair and say 'its okay, baby girl. I love making you feel beautiful,'
Or something, idk.

I was talking about a historical male author I dislike because I found his works misogynistic and the person said, "Oh, well I suppose you don't read Shakespeare either." and I was like, "Shakespeare? SHAKESPEARE?!?! Of course I read Shakespeare, that man loved women."
Shakespeare wrote a wide variety of fleshed out female characters. He wrote Damsels in Distress, Cross-dressing Girlbosses, and Complex Female Villains. He wrote a woman who refused to sell her virtue to save her family and then shamed her brother for suggesting it. He wrote Taming of the Shrew and it's opposite, All's Well that Ends Well, in which the wife hunts down and tames the husband. He wrote men who are good because they listen to, trust, and defend women. He wrote women of all kinds. He wrote women who drive the plot and women doomed by the narrative. He wrote women in love and women who pathetically follow a man who doesn't like them and women in hatred. He wrote sensible women and silly women and everything in between of all ages.
I wish modern authors could write women as well as he did.
