The parallels with transness and how trans folk trying to access gender-affirming care - including trans kids trying to access completely reversible puberty blockers - and how cis women and folk with uteri read as women trying to access basic reproductive healthcare, including long term birth control and sterilisation when they don’t want children, are treated never cease to strike me.

Because,frankly, it’s all about patriarchal control and opposing bodily autonomy, not anything to do with “irreversible” changes. It’s all about people shoving themselves into the boxes that serve patriarchal standards - binary gendered, attractive to patriarchal gendered standards and fertile - and nothing to do with the person’s safety, happiness or authenticity.

I just realised something.

You know when men say things like “oh, we’re supposed to be the providers for our women so they can just be at home and take care of the kids” (okay that was a bit extreme but yk which men I mean), and stuff like that? But they also get so fluffing mad when a woman is a “gold digger” (yes some women are but c’mon bro you can’t just call everyone that).

It makes no sense that they want to provide and protect women, but women also aren’t supposed to want to be housewives and have their husband spending his money on her… but I just realised something.

Men don’t want to be the providers. They don’t. What they want is the feeling of control over their wife/girlfriend. But women aren’t supposed to show that they want money and pricey stuff. And we definetly aren’t supposed to work a lot and have a successful carreer and happiness, all whilst expecting a little money and gifts. Why? Because then the whole “providing” thing loses its purpose.

The point isn’t to give us gifts that mean something and make us happy, or provide us with money so we can buy stuff. The point is for the men to be in control, having all the money so that the woman can’t leave, have her wrapped around her husband’s finger.

And you know? It’s awful. It’s so horrible.
