I was sitting in my hostel's common room (journaling and absentmindedly eating dinner) and tripped and fell into a two hour discussion with a British man who happened to be sitting there as well. We discussed international politics and I managed to hold my own---who knew I had this many opinions about the ICJ? Also he kissed my hand afterward, which has to be the most charming thing to happen to me in recent history. Now I'm sweetly cradled in wine bed and listening to a recording of the opera I wanted to see...it's okay, actually. Everything is wonderful.

On one hand I do like that Zelda is the protagonist in Echoes of Wisdom, and that her options will be different from Link's usual repertoire to give her identity.

But on the other hand:

I don't really like that Zelda gets to go outside only in the top-down nu-retro toygame style. It would be different if there was a 'major zelda game' that already featured her as a playable character and not as an inaccessible puzzle box maiden... but the only games where we have 'played as zelda on an adventure' have been Cartoony. The tone has been set that the adventure is to be taken less seriously.

I hope that they don't completely prohibit Zelda from Bonking something, because I don't want the Two Genders to be "attack with a sword" and "arrange furniture."

On that topic, while Zelda does tend to tell guys to use swords for her more often than she attacks anything on her own... we're supposed to believe it's bad when Ganondorf Summons Monsters to do his bidding, but it's fine when Zelda does it? Oh but they are just 'copies' of a monster, that makes it okay,

Don’t get me wrong because I genuinely think Taylor Swift is a talented lyricist but she really has not artistic growth… She has written the same exact songs four hundred times but now she just puts a random words generator. Like, some of those lyrics sound AI generated. And she’s 34 years old but her albums still speak on the same things. There’s zero evolution. Some of those lyrics feel targeted to a 19 years old that is in her “indie aesthetically bad boys that get high and I think I can fix phase” which is basically the same as her old material but way more cringey for some reason. And I’m not trying to compare but Beyoncé at that age was making Lemonade. It’s hard to think this is the biggest pop star the world has to offer us. This is white mediocrity. The songs are fun to edit over fictional characters but when you put into perspective her whole work is so lackluster. So utterly boring and predictable. Maybe she needs to take a break (?). And somehow, people and white music critics will pretend this album is comparable to the likes of Cowboy Carter.

Finally listened to Dylan Mulvaney's song and?? I don't get the negative hype about it, it was frankly a cute song. Also the "playin' catch-up 'cause we missed the pre-game" made me laugh, it was a good line. Dylan, you've done it again!

brat was actually life changing to me in that it was like. a reminder that pop music can be really really good. and that it doesn’t all have to sound exactly the same. i think pop music went thru a real period of suffering for a minute and we’re not out of it yet.

the thing about taking advice from anyone on tiktok or instagram including catholic and christian type influencers, parenting advice, relationship advice, etc, or internalizing any stories of horrible relationships and betrayal people tell on those platforms, or reading about all the ways interpersonal relationships can end horribly and be cycled through extremely quickly on those platforms is that you are necessarily then consuming the thoughts and experiences of someone who is willing to put their face and name on a public social media platform to talk at you. and like 1% of those people have a good reason for doing so and the other 99% are completely unhinged. so everything you’re consuming has first gone through the filter of "is this person weird and insane enough to make Instagram reels of themselves crying?" and if the answer is yes maybe their advice doesn’t apply to your life because you’re a normal person who would not do that.
