Well, it took me a while, but the 2010s entry of my werewolf movie screencap project is finished. Within you'll find screencaps for most of the notable werewolf films with practical effects from that decade. It was definitely a worse time for story and lighting than the previous decades, but you will still see some amazing effects and interesting takes on werewolves.

I've also covered the 00s, 90s and 80s, so be sure to click through to those entries for everything werewolf. I periodically update those as I locate and screencap obscure films too.

so last night I watched Wolves (2014) with Jason Momoa and discount Sam Winchester Lucas Till, which is SUCH an early-aughts YA-ish werewolf teen drama that I had a great time

but while watching I realized I have werewolf-shifter romance brain rot because you cannot tell me. You Cannot Tell Me that Jason Momoa's character would not be the dickish Alpha who would be the love interest in an adult novel. He's ruthless. He lives in the woods with his vicious pack. He's dirty. He smokes a pipe whose bowl is carved into a skull. The cops don't even come into town anymore because they know he runs it. His last name is Slaughter. He's one of the last purebred werewolves and THE ENTIRE PLOT revolves around him wanting to have a son with another purebred (as in born a wolf, not bitten). I don't know how many adult books were inspired by this guy but I was having some feelings.

there are literally no limits to the sorts of stories we could be telling about werewolves but all of the werewolf movies are always super heteronormative and patriarchal “pure bloodlines and true mates” blood and chocolate bullshit

Goncharov got me thinking about the time my brother called me at 8 am to tell me about how he'd dreamed that he was giving a tour of Disney Princess art I'd done, and at one point a guest stopped in front of a statue of a young Inuit girl hugging a wolf, and asked, "oh what's that one?"

To which my brother instantly replied "Oh that's just Time Wolf"

"Time Wolf?"

"Yeah you know, Time Wolf. Came out about 2014? About those two rival families in Alaska fighting about oil drilling using their time traveling sled dogs? I thought the idea was good but the execution could have been better. I liked the end fight on the giant glacier though"
