dusk posting hi . i just woke up from a nap there isnt much i have to say. may image dump some memes i drew over with this guy a year or so ago next, excited to play the saga this weekend when i have time to check it out. this character is one of the oldest of mine i still use on occasion, i was running around as him on 2.7 multiplayer a fair bit at the end of the 2010s . good times

IMPORTANT UPDATE

I feel leery toward this game "The Cenozoic Era" on Steam.

Much like WolfQuest, it's an animal survival sim.

As you can see, it has most of the animals WolfQuest does (and more) and uses all of the same models for them, from the elk to the foxes to the cougars to the bears to the wolf pups (which they use as fox kits lmao??) to the mule deer and even the planned bighorn sheep. Which is fine-- WQ doesn't own those models and others can purchase and use them too.

But its adult wolf models.

They aren't the exact WQ models -- you can tell by proportions and the places where the legs meet the body -- but they are clearly heavily referencing them. This matters because WQ DOES own the sole rights to their adult wolf models. These look like if you prompted an artist to make a wolf model from scratch, but instructed them to make it as identical to the WQ model as legally reasonable.

Even the skins on 'em look strikingly similar to WQ's coats. They aren't direct steals, but nonetheless seem to take after Dave & company's work.

The first wolf calls the NPC coat Frosty to mind, the second is fairly unique but bears some resemblance to the Luna & NPC Eyebrows coats, and the third looks a bit Boltz-inspired.

It feels cheap, as though they're trying to cash in on WolfQuest's success by mimicking its look, and it makes me feel irritated.

RED SKY PACK UPDATE WOO

as I mentioned I finally started Gen 3, but MAN did Gen 2 go out with a bang- we had a nasty bear attack, and Clarity got a major injury to her leg that just Would Not Heal. she couldn’t hunt for days and had to rely on rabbits + the one leftover elf calf carcass we still had to feed the pups

thankfully the pups were nearing 20 pounds, so I just planned to wait it out but Beryl being the smallest of the litter was taking forever to catch up (surprisingly she wasn’t a runt, just tiny). eventually I Had to find food, and after many failed mule deer + elk + pronghorn hunts we stumbled across a moose calf god BLESS (just in time cause Cobalt decided to be a little shit and eat the remainder of the pups’ elk calf)

then poor Clarity had to drag the thing halfway across the world with a broken leg. we made it seconds before affinity dropped too low 💀 thankfully Beryl ate and finally got to 20 pounds

I keep thinking "I want more games like WolfQuest" but really I just want WolfQuest copied and pasted so many times so I can go "Ok I've been playing 8 hours I need to stop now, let's play WolfQuest instead"

It's literally the perfect game for wolf therians because YOU'RE LITERALLY A WOLF !! And it's all scientifically accurate and based in a REAL LOCATION and the only human interactions are optional and even collectibles blend in enough that it's entirely plausible. All of the achievements and locations are so natural and don't break the immersion of being a real, wild wolf, while still having fun side tasks to do all while trying to survive !! And you can pick the difficulty so it isn't too stressful or so it IS super realistic and scary !!

I have never played an animal simulation game this fun, realistic, rewarding, and expensive !! My inner child that grew up on original WolfQuest is screaming every time I play anniversary edition because oh my goodness it's so awesome and I am Really there and there's STILL updates !! There's so much to do you can complete the game thousands of times and still not have done all the achievements and paths and secret little interactions!!
