Can we PLEASE talk about the fact that when Wolf tells Scarlet "I love you" her response is a sarcastic "Really? I couldn't tell." I mean, how amazing would it be if all love declarations were so backed up by actions that they could warrant this response

the lunar chronicles are my comfort books. it's hard to explain what they mean to me, but last year i picked them up after six years away from them, and it truly was like coming home. i remember being nervous that i would not like them because my taste in books had changed dramatically but i absolutely and utterly fell in love with every character again, and i remembered why i had fallen in love with this story and the characters in the first place. as soon as i read the first line in cinder, i knew, that no matter how many times i read them or the time that stretches between rereads, they will always be home. the characters, their found family will always be home. i remembered why this series meant so much to me. the rampion crew gave me a second home, a family within the pages when i literally was so alone. they showed that books could be something more, that i could become truly and utterly attached to the characters, we will forever be linked. i loved the healthiness of the relationships between couples, the friendships between both men and female relationships. i remember falling so hard for kaider and rooting for their relationship and rooting for every relationship. i remember getting winter in hardback because i needed to see how it ended. i sobbed when i finished "something old, something new" because i knew it meant saying goodbye to them. i have never cried so hard after finishing an epilogue, but it fucking hurt to say goodbye to the characters who saved and continue to save me. they healed me. every fucking time i open these book something within me knits together. something within heals. these books are so deeply intertwined within me and nothing will ever change that. god, everyone needs to read these books.

LUNAR CHRONICLES BUT ON THEIR EQUIVALENT OF HOT ONES
Cinder does pretty well, excluding the creative string of swear words she comes up with. Finishes all ten wings.
Kai almost quits at 5. The only thing keeping him going is that Thorne quit at six and Kai knew that if he quit at 5 he would never hear the end of it. Gets to da bomb and then is like, Well I mine as well finish this.
Scarlet managed to finish all ten wings but is like beet red in the face. Has significant trouble answering questions
Fun fact, canines can't taste spice and neither can Wolf. Cleans his plate and drinks from da bomb bottle (cause Scarlet is watching) gives himself a stomach ache
Cress. Poor sweet cress. She ate all ten wings, crying, but she did it
Unlike Cress Thorne only got to 6. Talked some big game before hand. Will never live it down.
Winter just straight up doesn't mind the heat. Like this girl ate da bomb with a smile on her pretty little face. Bought a bottle to take with her
Jacin was stoic. So very very stoic. I mean he had the discipline to do it but he also answered in 1 to 3 word answers, also his ears turned red. Told everyone it wasn't that spicy.

how brilliant was Marissa Meyer for pairing up Cress and Wolf during the wedding heist (as much as I wish Scarlet had gotten to see Wolf all dressed up). The tallest of the crew paired with the smallest, who if I remember correctly is about eye level with his navel. The two characters the most detached from the rest of the world, who spent most of their lives with the singular purpose of being soldiers and spies for Levana. Two characters who, ironically, can probably relate to each other fairly well--Lunars without gifts, treated as monsters, exploited for their skills, isolated from the rest of the world. And two characters whose abilities balance each other out perfectly

So this is weird but I decided I needed to write a Wolf/Scarlet fanfic for the Lunar Chronicles ... Hello, Lunar Chronicles Fandom! 👋 On AO3
Preview:
Scarlet’s mouth twitched with mirth at the mesmerized expression in Wolf’s eyes. It was the third time he’d observed her plucking and roasting a wild bird, but his awe seemed not to have subsided in the least.
“I could teach you, you know,” she said, giving the skewered partridge a slow turn over the flames. “It isn’t hard.”
Wolf quickly looked away, his enchantment replaced with an embarrassed flush. “No. I couldn’t.”
“Why not?” Wolf scowled. “I told you, Scarlet ... we don’t cook things.”
Scarlet tilted her head. “So? Just because you never have, doesn’t mean you can’t learn.”
Wolf didn’t say anything. Just continued staring at the ground, his forehead knitted together.
“Wolf, come here.”
His unnatural green eyes darted back to her, flashing with apprehension.
“Come on,” she insisted, patting the ground beside her. “I’m going to teach you to roast a bird.”
Something like a growl rumbled in his throat—but it wasn’t a threatening growl. Just utterly, adorably uncomfortable. “Scarlet...”
“Wolf, come here.” She spoke it as an order, leaving no room for negotiation. It was her best “Don’t mess with Scarlet” voice, and she knew it wasn’t lost on Wolf.
At first, one of his eyebrows twitched upward, in surprise. Then, seemingly against his will, an amused smile tugged at his lips. And Scarlet knew she’d won.
She watched, smirking with satisfaction, as Wolf got to his feet and joined her on her side of the campfire. He was still smiling—but then, as his gaze flitted down to the roasting partridge, his brow furrowed again and he hunched, as though trying to shrink into himself. Scarlet bit the inside of her cheek in an attempt to withhold laughter. You would think Wolf was a socially awkward schoolboy, not a lethal gang member-turned-street-fighter-turned-her protector.
“Here,” Scarlet said, taking Wolf’s right hand in his and prying his curled fingers open. “Hold the stick for me.” She eased the branch she’d skewered the bird with into his palm. When he neglected to grip it, she cupped her hand over his, gently closing his fingers for him. Wolf twitched. His knee began bouncing, that nervous habit of his. “I’ll burn it,” he muttered. “You won’t.” Scarlet lay her hand on his knee to still it. It had become a frequent gesture at this point in their journey. Something she did with ease ... with affection. “I trust you.”
As soon as she spoke the words, Scarlet felt something shift. Something slice through the air, creating an instant chasm between them. For one brief second, she was able to feel the tensing of Wolf’s muscles under her hand — and then he pulled away.
Dropping the stick, he retreated rapidly to the other side of the campfire. He sat back down, drawing his knees up to his chest. Although he wouldn’t meet her gaze, she could tell that his eyes were dark and brooding.
When finally he spoke again, his voice was quiet ... yet oddly harsh.
“You shouldn’t.” Read more on AO3

The mostly-crazy darling of the Lunar court, Prince Jacin Clay-Blackburn!
Breaking my general pattern of posting the girls first so I have a little extra time to get my interpretation of Winter just right, so let's talk about Jacin.
Jacin approaches Winter's plot points with a certain characteristic gruff-ness, but he notably keeps her general kindness to the working class of Luna (something adjacent to what I think he'd have expressed in the books, if he wasn't so busy jacin-ing about winter). He's got lots of light, airy fabrics in his design, but retains something of a more fitted feel than winter to show this- big, billowy sleeves, but paired with well-tailored slacks. His wardrobe leans into lunar extravagance and almost ephemeral textiles in court, when he's actively trying to remain on "Levana"s good side (another thing he retains from the books- much more concerned than winter with remaining too small a nuisance to deal with- even if he inevitably fails because it isn't actually winters fault levana wants her dead).
Cinder | Kai | Cress | Thorne | Scarlet | Ze'ev | Winter

I love how Scarlet takes one look at Wolf, thinks "Hmm he's hot. Probably an idiot." and tries to shoot him.
