Mmm something something the one nightwing kid from the volcano who was painting with moon in her book? Mightyclaws I think? Just thinking about him n moon I love the poor little nightwings I live them so every single one of those poor asthma ridden smoke bags <3

Anyway here's the actual thingy

She had so many, more than I had ever seen on even Morrowseer, even with his numerous expeditions out to the rainforest

She didn't even notice at first

When she first arrived at the village everyone stared at her enviously because of her upbringing sure, but after a while it became because she had so many with us having so few, and sure, slowly we gained some but nodragon quite caught up to her amount, never came near the abundant nebula that were smattered across her scales.

Most dragons moved on, but I didn't, I was always so envious.

So when she came in the arts cave and started painting, and asked why the sky in mine had so many stars and why even bother with them if the smoke that choked the night was going to smother them anyway, I lost it.

And she just sat there. And gave me that look.

The look that was only meant to come from

others.

The signature pitying look, the oh your poor thing well atleast you don't have to breathe smoke now

atleast you have fresh fruit and a place to live safely

atleast the rainwings are the lazy ones so they are the best ones to share with

atleast you don't have to tell lies anymore

atleast your on even ground now

atleast you'll be humbled now, perhaps you won't try anything like that next time war breaks out you ambitious freaks

An outsider in her own tribe indeed.

And one of my OCs Whirlwind. He's a SandWing who's hiding something. He seems emotionless and stiff at first, but once you get to know him, he's quite emotional.

yeah, but see here’s the difference: Coral also lets her guards bleed out on a fairly regular basis, according to Snail, a surviving guard. She encourages grooming because it makes her feel good, as we see with her forcing Anemone to marry Whirlpool- just because she thinks he loves grovelling to Coral. Coral lovebombs all her female daughters, giving them no privacy or agency over their own lives, and neglects her male dragonets, not even knowing their names, in fact Turtle’s character is mostly a conditioning by Coral; he’s constantly saying he’s stupid, boring or not good enough. He also fantasises throughout his book about saving his tribe and in many of these fantasies, Coral is proud of him at the end. At the end of Talons of Power, Turtle isn’t even free from all the harm growing up like that has done to him, instead he just goes from one end of Coral’s life to the other, and only because he’s an animus.

Yes, Thorn is flawed. Very much so in fact, and just as you said, she killed PreyHunter with little provocation. The thing is, she’s a great parent, and not a bad queen. I think it would be really interesting if Tui went into her flaws as a queen, but I don’t think she will. Thorn isn’t perfect as a queen, but she’s a good mother to Sunny: she built a group of loyal friends and fighters around her, and when she lost Sunny’s egg, she took control of a massive criminal hideout, overthrowing Vulture and creating the OutClaws, just to find her. When she does find Sunny, she treats her with respect and love, but is also ready to storm Burn’s palace, despite knowing she’d probably die, just to be reunited with her daughter again. Thorn adopts Qibli and saves him from a horrible, incredibly abusive parent.

The parallel between Thorn and Coral is interesting because they both had a dragonet with a father who soon disappeared soon after, and they both fought tooth and claw for their loved ones. The difference is that Coral is trapped in the mindset of thinking that she is the main character in one of her scrolls, and thinking that everyone else is a side character in her story. She treats her dragonets as if they aren’t real, three-dimensional people, and her servants as if their only purpose is to work for her. She kills them instead of just letting them go, and Snail and the other guards were fully ready to abandon her for the first possible queen who acted like they weren’t expendable items, but Thorn treats her dragons as friends, and they are completely loyal to her as a result, like Qibli and Six-Claws.

We see the results of both of their parenting styles in Qibli and Anemone. Qibli is a strongly moral dragon who will dedicate himself entirely to other dragons and puts friendship and loyalty before anything else. Anemone, though she is swiftly starting to snap out of it, treats dragons like objects.

About Coral and Thorn

You know, a lot of people in the WoF community hate Coral. Like...they don't like her very much. Which is justified, because despite the fact that although she was not a terrible tyrant, like Scarlet or Wasp, she did a lot of very questionable and rude things towards other dragons. But why doesn't anyone talk about Thorn's shortcomings? She literally fucking killed Preyhunter because he told her that Morrowseer was dead. Let's remember that Coral killed her servant because her children were killed again. It seems to me that Coral is generally very mentally exhausted about this, so she fell into a wild rage. Her child was killed again. I don't want to justify her actions, because they were terrible and that guard was not to blame, but there was practically no reason for Thorn to kill Preyhunter. It seems to me that, in this regard, she is even worse than Coral. And it's a shame that the WoF fandom hardly talks about it.
