i don’t know how to write men well due to i am the man hating lesbian your father warned you about. thus i am trying to wlw!devil’s minion.

and the thing is, when you take this show and these characters whose stories are so rooted in the permissions of patriarchy, it brings up way too many questions that i don’t know how to answer. for example, is danny still bi? is she a lesbian who, if 70s dm happened, is thrown back into comphet after armande wipes her memories? if she is the one who carried her daughters, how might that change her relationship with them? especially if she resents the trauma of their pregnancies? how does that change how the world receives the book? does her published steamroll her and publish it under a fiction genre because danny’s an old woman after all—of course she’s turned to writing gothic romantasy? never mind the fact that she had never previously shown any interest in or knack for writing fiction.

it begs the question of who should be genderbent too. sure, daniel, armand, louis, and lestat. but what about claudia? and, of course, whether claudia is or isn’t genderbent, it changes the unholy family dynamics, how they were able to move about the world.

and yeah, i probably don’t need to Think too hard about loustat and claudia if i’m writing silly dm toxic old woman yuri, but the domino effect of louis’s story into everyone’s lives is the grounding part of the original, and to me, it bears considering.

what are your favourite ships? like in general in any media?

i'm not very big on shipping tbh so it takes a lot for me to actually get invested in one (i have to care about both characters, essentially, and there has to be some thematic value in it... unless it's a wlw piece of media then i'm just sold. i like women.)

when it comes to dc, i like a lot of established canon ships. my faves are def brutalia and dickkory though. also clois! clark & lois are like parents to me though-- (also because 'superman' is the piece of media that i've been the longest into). ouhh kylealex although i don't talk about it a lot because i still have lots of kyle's books to read through. i enjoy jaykyle but it's one of these ships that i got into for comedy reasons and then it escalated...

outside of dc: symbrock (the symbiote & eddie from 'venom') because eldritch horrors should be romanced. and a bit on the same note, daniel/armand in 'devil's minion' pretty much for the same reasons. i love gothic romances in general<3

a honorary mention of beefleaf from tgcf but i have to say i have a very specific vision of their relationship (or lack thereof). mostly i just adore the tragedy of it all, wretched beginning wretched end etc... and they're genderqueer icons (if you ignore all the transphobia displayed by the author).

oh and nanahachi makes me soo unwell (affectionate) that at this point i'm avoiding it.

Would you ever write genderbent devil’s minion?

gosh this is a complicated topic for me.

So despite being a lesbian myself, I interact with very very little lesbian/wlw media.

I'm at the masc/butch end of the spectrum and I just don't see myself represented in like 95% of wlw media. It's all femme4femme, or at best contains a 'woman with a haircut between a pixie and a bob, who still wears copious amounts of makeup but wears jeans from the mens section'. Or there's a butch character but she's treated as the butt of jokes. Hell even in art I can rarely find a woman like me. I unfollowed a really popular queer artist because they would draw literally every type of queer person/couple or throuple except for a masc/butch woman.

And I rarely interact with gender swap aus or art because like...it often seems to hinge on heteronormative ideals of femininity (and sometimes even feels fetishizing but that's a whole other rant). Long hair and lipstick and heels and skirts. I've yet to see a gender swap that includes a character whose identity is woman, but whose identity also hinges on being a butch/masc/stud. Seeing endless femme4femme stuff ends up making me feel sad.

I can't divorce my perspective from any piece of wlw media I would ever create, and it just seems like my type of perspective isn't wanted.

And like normally I'm all about creating the content I desire to see but it's almost too vulnerable a thing for me. I have enough trouble getting people irl to respect my identity and not thrust socially acceptable feminine things upon me, trying to do it via the medium of fic? Idk, if the piece wasn't appreciated I would feel so crushed.

Which is a shame because I can think of angles to work from that are interesting to me. But I just don't think it's what anyone is looking for when they ask for gender swap!
