like. here's the thing, there was this lady at my last job named Cindy. early 50s probably, very sweet and well meaning but, yknow, kinda a clueless older lady. and i started t shortly before starting there, so she was well aware i was trans/queer, or as aware as she could be. but again, she was well meaning, so she saw masculine clothes, short hair, ratty little beard, and deep voice and went "yep, that's a dude". and you might say "well that's not necessarily well meaning, she just might not have remembered you beforehand," which i think is probably also true, however the key here is that the woman who sat next to her, Carrie, was in the exact same situation, and would still exclusively she/her me. like, they would have entire conversations about me bouncing back and forth, not correcting each other or being confused but just. each using different pronouns for me. so she knew that other people still saw me as female and just Didnt Care.

so how does this relate to anything? well, one day Cindy and i were chatting in the breakroom, and she asked if we went to chik fil a a lot since our new house was really close to it and its SOOOOOOO good. i said no, she saw the face i made and asked why not, i explained that they dont like people like me, and she goes "oh! well fuck that, who cares if they don't like you, you deserve good chicken!!!" and im like. aw lol thanks cindy but what i mean by that is that they donate a lot of their proceeds to /actively hurting/ people like me. and she goes "....oh. ......... well FUCK them then, im never eating there again!!! thats so fucked up!!! they dont deserve my money to use for things like that!!!!"

this lady with literally 0 skin in the game of queer rights was more than willing to immediately drop this place because she cared more about Not contributing to innocent people getting hurt than she did about Getting to have some specific chicken.

no one is saying youre not allowed to like the chicken or the wizards or to dislike rap. all anyone is saying is that if you care more about getting to do that without anyone being upset about it than you do about . like. the reasons people are upset, that says something about you and your motivations for engaging with that thing the way that you do.

liking harry potter doesnt automatically make a person transphobic, but you may have transphobia you havent worked through that you are expressing via holding on to that property so hard despite the harm you know it causes and the fact that it will make trans people around you uncomfortable. if every time someone brings this up, you immediately go "so i can't do this anymore without being a transphobe?", you are being defensive because you know on some level that yes, you cannot continue engaging with it the way you have with being transphobic, because the way you are engaging with it /is an expression/ of transphobia, not the other way around. and this, too, you know.

someone who dislikes rap for genuine non-racist reasons will, when this subject is brought up, assess their personal reasons for disliking it, conclude "well it doesn't seem to be motivated by that but i'll keep an eye out," and move on with their day. someone who dislikes it for racist reasons will get defensive, because to assess their personal reasons they would have to confront the fact that that is indeed where that's coming from, and that makes them uncomfortable.

part of learning to grow and change as an adult is learning to sit in that discomfort. shying away from it will always be your first instinct, you don't want to be a bad person and so you don't want to admit you could have done something you consider bad.

you will always be doing things you consider bad. no one can stick 100% to their personal moral code, we all bend our own rules from time to time. id bet some of us even have rules for when we can bend the rules. so if you want to be able to actually change and become better, you have to be able to look those times in the eye and assess them fairly. it will feel bad. it will feel like youre wading through an extremely fast river trying to get there and it will take a lot of practice. but it does get easier, and eventually that feeling of wrongness stops feeling wrong at all. it just becomes a warning light in your mind that you should stop and think a little harder about what youre saying.

anyways. just. in general, keep an eye out for when you feel yourself getting defensive, and instead of pulling away from the thing making you feel like that, see if you can take a moment to unwrap it and see what's really inside. it's a lot easier to make it go away then.

at this point any time someones throwing a fit abt "oh so its transphobic to still like harry potter / homiphobic to still like chik fil a / racist not to like rap??" its just like. no, not automatically, but given that everyone who talks about this has fully explained that part and you're still this defensive over it anyways, for you specifically the answer is yes.

Ok I think I'm starting to have a manic episode but here's a rant

(TW transphobia)

Transphobia doesn't exist in the wizarding world (cannonically) and i understand if you want it to so you can relate to characters but if you use it as an excuse to say that a certain character isn't trans thats stupid. Imagine how happy JKR would be that we all just accepted that wizards have the same societal norms when it comes to the lgbt community. Why shouldn't there be a potion that magically makes you transition, or spells that can change your gender temporarily like cmon guys if people can turn invisible why can't they turn a different gender. Again though I love to push my personal greivences onto fictional characters so I understand puting that system in place as to relate to your fav characters but just remember (especially with the marauders) Its not cannon! You don't have to make the characters homophobic or transphobic cause it's not cannon

This all came about cause I saw a tiktok saying Regulus couldn't be trans bc Walburga was fine with him being the heir after Sirius left and Walburga wouldv'e been transphobic, but why, like why would she be transphobic other than muggles of that time period were. Like it's never outwardly stated that trans wizards don't exist cause like what if it was seen as just a common thing so no one really cared.

Just imagine the interaction of a muggleborn coming to hogwarts and their like "Yeah I'm a girl but my parents wont let me transition" and all the purebloods are like huh?? why not?? its so easy and normal??

Idk I just have a lot of thoughts and like playing with cannon and fannon is so fun and I think people forget that its fucking magic like they can do whatever they want you don't have to put our rules onto harry potter as a whole.

Comics/University AU(but they’re still wizards) My favorite one that was fun to write and crack-ish, took alot of research. The moment I thought of the fic idea it seized me and wouldn’t let go until I got it done. I think I need at least a year to be anywhere near done, and that’s what I said last year lol. she/her, 24, neutral good, lesbian, her full name is Scarlet Dahlia Beonea, she was born on the small planet of Geranium to the royal family, (her mother Queen Cerise and her father King Russet). 

she was next in line to the throne, but when she was just 13 her mother and father were both assassinated while on their way to discuss a peace agreement with earth. and since she was only 13 and the monarch must be at least 21 to be a proper ruler, someone else had to take the throne. unfortunately, her closest relative that was of age and was willing to rule was a distant cousin who’s political views were not the most desirable. he was an asshole and didn't necessarily approve of scarlet’s love for women.

after about a year of his rule, she fled the planet and came to earth for her own safety. shes lived on earth for almost 10 years now, and despite how strongly she wants to go back home and take over her rightful rule, her fear of what her beloved home planet has turned into is stronger.

Arti

she/her, 23, true neutral, lesbian, sibling to willow, she doesn't have a last name or middle name, but her full first name is Artimes, born on earth but she doesn't know her parents.

she doesn't actually remember anything from before the age of 14. in her teens (14-17) she was kept in a facility where she was put through experiments and tests daily, resulting in her skin tone and eye coloration. she barely had any human(?) interaction other than a few other kids who were in the same boat. when she was 16, a kid came to the facility who was 9 years old (willow) and she instantly made a sibling-like friendship with them. 

when she turned 17, Arti decided she had to break out of that place and took willow with her. now, 7 years later, they live together and despite neither of them having any real family, they've each found family in each other.

Darla

she/her, 345 years old, chaotic evil, lesbian, no last or middle name, lived in the underworld for the first two centuries of her life, but was banished in her mid 240′s.

she was banished because she just fucking, kept going against the rules and being a bitch so they were like “hey get out please. also we’re gonna curse you” and they cursed her. (you know that old horror story about the girl who never took a ribbon around her throat off because if she took it off, her head would come off? thats her) so she lived on the “overworld” for a few years and eventually got a cat, lacy, who Darla made immortal so she could spend her life with her. eventually, after like 50 years of terrorizing the overworld, the guys from the underworld were like “please stop or we’re gonna kill your cat” so she stopped (but the cat still got screwed over, getting the curse Darla got).

she lied low for another few decades, then she dated arti for a few years. it wasn't super healthy so arti eventually broke it off and now Darla sometimes shows up at arti and willow’s house like a weird aunt.

Caroline

she/her, 17, chaotic good, trans/bisexual, raised in a rich and popular wizarding family, but now she lives alone after she ran away/was disowned 

her father is kind of an asshole and super transphobic/homophobic, so when she came out as trans when she was 14, she was immediately sent away despite her mother’s efforts to convince her father to let her stay. now shes trying to get into a all-female elite witch college but shes having a bit of trouble with the administration.
