Bday series 2.0 part 3

Comparing two Sol Maiden routes: Leslie's and Sigurd's

Both Leslie's route and Sigurd's route are Sol Maiden arc(S5), but I saw quite a contrast in how MC acted, and how that lead to the difference of metaphor.

Leslie's route: "STOP SELF DEPRECIATING"

Though she is clumsy, MC's not so terrible yet has soooo low self-esteem. MC keeps saying she's just a fake, and can't be a real Sol Maiden. Girl, who ever said like that? Leslie even said, "No, there's a reason why bow chose you" but she keep goes like "I'm pathetic".

On the 11th day, it was all dark and Leslie went to the forest, her mind was entirely broken and she couldn't do anything. If Chica hadn't dragged her along to the forest, I'm sure she would have just stayed there crying. Even in the forest, when her shoot didn't work well, she's like "so I'm useless after all," again. Leslie asked her to shoot together, so that's how they finally solved the problem.

Later, the MC says Leslie is her sun. Kinda expected. Leslie supports her very well, but she is busy self-deprecating almost all the time and relies emotionally too much on Leslie. "I'm gonna do it for him" "It was thanks to him I could do it" etc.

+ And about the bow. When Randolph gave her the bow saying now it's yours, she's like oh thanks! and accepts it.

Sigurd's route: "NICE WORK, GIRL"

MC was a bit clumsy at first but has surprisingly grown up through the route. Mel told MC that she's just a fake Sol Maiden for the festival, but when the dark creatures(?) goes on rampage and everyone is struggling, she goes, "Fake or not, I'm the Sol Maiden!" takes the bow and takes them down all. Cool!

When it was all dark on the 11th day and Sigurd and the two guys went to the forest, though she was worried 100%, she kept the bow and did what she could do. When she eventually went to the forest, she found Sigurd and the others almost dead, she saved them all, and then she shot the sun and literally saved the world. On a note, things were worse than Leslie's at this time. There's no Chica either. (She's gone rampage as well) If it was Leslie's MC, she would've ended up doing nothing after all.

In addition, Sigurd later said that the MC is his sun, and she thought he's like the moon. Unlike the other route, she is the sun. And she deserves this phrase. Ngl, she was a really cool and independent girl who saved Sigurd from darkness.

+ About the bow? When Randolph gave her the bow saying now it's yours, she's like nah, just keep it at the academy, I'll work hard from now on and wait until the next festival to see if I'm qualified as Sol Maiden at that time too.

P.S. I tend to use term MC when doing kind of an analysis like this, which is kinda more formal term. Liz is used as a rather friendly term, at least in my posts.

Alfonse Route Chapter 14 (9-13)

Last week on the Alfonse Route, Liz and The Bois start to make medicine, but they’re kind of failing at it, and then Elias arrives.

Elias brings the cavalry! Amelia, Guy, Luca, Cerim, Leslie, Joel, Azusa (BOO), Leon, Randy/Serge and Sigurd (who also graduated but came back to help on account of being better people than Shithead) came to help. I’m pretty sure that Alfonse’s tinyass office is holding the entire cast of Wizardess Heart sans Vincent, Glenn, Lucious, the professors, and villains (who weren’t also love interests). And also Mel, who has no good reason NOT to be here.

Side note, why is fucking AZUSA also better than Shithead now? 

Aw. So Alfonse and Sigurd have a nice reunion, and Sigurd informs him that Elias told him about the situation in the academy and he came as fast as he could, proving that once again, Sigurd is superior to Shithead.

So they get to work, then they take a lunch break and everyone fights over sandwiches, like you do.

How? Did this happen? Who did he make out with?

Unfortunately, the same thought occurs to Zeus. Guy considers eating Caesar, and at that point I remember only about a quarter of the room knows that Caesar turns into a pig when he makes out with someone.

And then the plotline doesn’t get resolved. We never find out who Caesar kissed, why they kissed, and who kissed him to turn him back into a human.

We skip to nightfall. Liz steps outside the office to get some fresh air and ponder over the fact that somehow they still haven’t gotten enough magic power to make the medicine, which leads me to theorize that the extra push they need is just... Shithead. Which would be so fucking stupid. There’s literally no fucking way Shithead alone is more powerful than literally every other main dude and Amelia. That’s fifteen fucking people. I counted.

Alfonse joins Liz outside. They commiserate over being extremely worried about the fate of the entire academy. Alfonse despairs that they won’t have enough medicine for everyone and is not looking forward to choosing who to save and who not to save. All of which could have been avoided if Shithead had not been a privileged twat, but yknow. Liz and Alfonse resolve to move forward and do what they can.

The next morning, Liz collapses while infusing the potions with magic and uh...... now has the Black Robe Plague.

Klaus and Azusa's had me rolling on the floor I won't even lie. The last CG for Azusa always gets me fucked up because like ??? Didn't we not vibe a few chapters ago??? And Klaus is just always kinda an ass and who says he won't use his rich boy abilities to silence children with gifts??? It gives emotional neglect compensated with financial support

I just really wanted to draw Leslie with elf ears (also how is this boy not a forest nymph or something with a last name like Roseblade?!)

also wanted to take a moment to answer some questions from @eye-cri againn quite honestly reading these made me so happy^^

(note: this is quite a long post so yk just fyi^^)

yes indeed the skirt was a nightmare to render but was it worth it? absolutely. and yeee the earrings are such an important part of her design (shes hardly ever seen w/ out them :>>) and yes, they do ring!! (trust zeus teases her for it when they’re initially meeting) the glove is actually tied to her story, she uses it to cover a symbol on her hand linked to her powers (ill go into detail about that in a bit). also kajal is of fae descent, (hence the pointed ears, i think i also meant to add a tail to her design but we’ll see abt that). as for how she got in to the academy, she just applied to the academy for fun (fae court stuff bored her- i have so much fae lore for this universe i.) and got accepted into the night class- she wanted to get away from home for a bit and thought some fancy boarding school/ academy in gedonelune would be interesting (i honestly forgot how getting into the academy works and haven’t gone back to check in a while so. i hope that works TT). she’s close friends with caesar, leslie and hiro. (i personally like that hiro and kajal both have special unique skills- ill touch on it later.)

ALSO YES. ZEUS. KAJAL. ZEJAL. IM. THEY- 💕🥺🩵✨❤️ zeus nationnnnn YES. hes just so🥺🩵🩵.

i truly cannot put into words how much they mean to me. zeus as a character is just so so wonderful and i. cannot. describe. how much i love him :>> anyways zejal (the ship name :PP) has been my precious lil thing for YEARS now im. (i’ll try to keep this brief so i dont go on forever)- zeus and kajal are very much rivals to lovers. they start out as classmates and spend most of their first year trying to one up one another. they do eventually start to begrudgingly respect one another and before he knows it, zeus is whipped for her. she too forms her own budding crush but isn’t really sure what to do about it because she doesn’t think zeus would ever feel the same way sooo she bottles it down and ignores it- subsequently (and perhaps inadvertently) ignoring him too. he doesn’t take that too well and it stays pretty tense between them for a bit until everything boils over and zeus ends up confessing followed almost immediately by kajal. thats just a ridiculously brief summary lmaoo- theres a lot to their story TT.

as for styling her uniform, i think she keeps it pretty simple just a regular night class uniform- she will however sometimes be spotted with a large floofy orange scarf (she borrows zeus’s- she likes how soft it is and he honestly loves to see her wear it)

the type of magic she specializes in are ancient curses and incantations. girl has LOADS of ancient grimoires she could spend hours translating and decoding the spells described in them. In fact she ends up using her knowledge of ancient magic to formulate her own unique spell (a concept i might have borrowed from twst in all honesty). she calls it, “evil eye” and its basically a magic circle w/ an evil eye design in the middle - it defends her from malicious intent however, considering that shes supposed to be rather powerful i took it a step further and made it so that using it, kajal can temporarily shut down people’s magic if they intend to do her any harm. she has the symbol marked on her right palm so she can activate it faster. (smthn smthn hiro and kajal bonding over having unique abilities- hiro would actually approach her bc she knows a lot about sealing magic away + she tries her best to help him research his own curse and whatnot) i also just love how both she and zeus work with magic circles i. ugh💕.

—> also the thought of her, caesar and leslie having get togethers where they gossip about random things while drinking chai she prepares hasn’t left my mind.

UPDATE: So far it's looking like Elias and Glenn are going to be the ones we dub next! Either we will do both at the same time, or only one(just depends on if I'm able to get enough understudy VAs so the cast is not overwhelmed!)

If you want your favorite boy to have his voice route now rather than later down the road, please do consider voting here! Votes DO MATTER! I will be picking the next 1-2 characters to voice over depending on the results of this survey. This voting form will remain permanently open, so there is no due-date. However, the sooner you get your votes in the better!

What if my favorite boy isn’t on this form?

All of the boys are on the voting form! However, depending on your choices for the question, “For the season 6 onwards routes, would you like for them to be dubbed in chronological order?” you will have access to the hidden section, which includes the season 6-11 love interests.

What choices will take me to this hidden section, and how do I get there?

- Option 1(dub in chronological order) WILL NOT take you to the hidden section. Dubbing the season 6-11 routes in chronological order means dubbing them in their release order. For example, first up would be Zeus, then Klaus II, Hiro, etc.

- Option 2 (dub 1 character per arc) WILL take you to the hidden section

- Option 3 (Dub then out of order, and do the popular characters first) WILL take you to the hidden section

- Option 4 (Dub the routes I find interesting) WILL NOT take you to the hidden section. This answer option means that the routes *I* find enjoyable will be prioritized and voiced first

- Option 5 (anything works. No preference) WILL take you to the hidden section

This may be the last of this series! I know I haven't done all characters, but I'm not sure if I'll come across new "I want a baby" interactions easily. Even these ones were only found yesterday. Was gonna start a new yearly series :P

//you know what, let’s talk about this! i’m back on a hiro loving crusade and i’m not about to stop here!

to say that he has a self loathing tendency isn’t exactly untrue, but i believe it’s a little off the mark. i wouldn’t say it’s loathing, but more of a lack of self-confidence. 

now, there are things that hiro is certainly confident in: his skills as a swordsman, and that he’s the only one who can protect zeus (he says the latter in this same spin off, btw). you could also say that he’s very confident in his ability to love and care about what he DOES love and care about, if that makes sense. 

now, in order to get to the core of where all this lack of self-confidence comes from, we have to think about how hiro grew up: as a retainer in the brundle household with a strict father who always reminded hiro of his status as a retainer. now, while is has been said that zeus and hiro were “raised like brothers”, hiro openly states in his route that while that is true (because of zeus and zeus’ father’s attitude towards hiro), he was raised to protect zeus. pack that in with the huge amount of magical power that zeus possesses, plus the fact that zeus is popular and canonically very attractive, and you have a big ‘ol recipe for an inferiority complex, even if hiro doesn’t fully realize it. there’s a lot that we can gather just by how zeus and hiro talk about each other, and it’s one of the things that i think solmare does almost consistently well. there’s always a reserved tone that hiro has when he talks about their relationship, but i think that’s another post entirely. one of these days i’ll talk more about it. one of these days, BUT I DIGRESS.

as a result of all that, hiro genuinely doesn’t think that he is an equal to those around him. this is prominent in his birthday spin-off (above), his own route, and even in the mr. gedonelune 2 event story. in his happy end, he says that he “was happy just being zeus’ assisstant, but [he] was left out of the loop when it came to prefect stuff.” while that inspired him to want to become a prefect himself, he initially throws in the towel during his route because he takes the defeatist mindset and thinks that his dream is impossible (this is obviously solved in his happy end where he does end up being a prefect). however, it’s that lack of confidence in himself that leads to this sort of depressive spiral. not only that, but it’s apparent in the aforementioned mr. gedonelune 2 story that he doesn’t take praise very well, and it easily embarrasses him. when liz is praising his looks and how competent he actually is, hiro asks her to stop and even covers her mouth at some point out of embarrassment, stating that “[liz] is the only person who thinks all that”. liz of course thinks he’s just being modest, but i think there’s a lot of other context clues through this and his own route that leads me to believe that he might have not been him being modest. it’s also good to note that hiro does get embarrassed when zeus straight up tells him that they are equals, pretty much like hiro has never heard it before or even considered it before zeus said it out loud for hiro to hear.

hiro does have a lot of negative tendencies towards himself, that much is apparent. i don’t think it stems from him hating himself, but more so thinking that he’s not an equal or on the same level as the others. he’s not good with his emotions in the first place, which we see in his route and this spin-off as well [side note: i love the sincerity of “i don’t know how to respond to this”. it’s very in-character for him given everything else we see of him and it’s so genuine and good and AUUUGGHHHHHH--]. the way he reacts so subtly to a lot of things as if taking a back seat, how he can be awkward when put on the spot (this is shown also in his happy end when he is asked for a speech after passing his prefect trials), and how he reacts to praise are subtle details, but very strong indicators about what sets hiro apart from the other “cool silent type” characters. there’s also been a few times where hiro has had “gap moe” moments (that others have noticed as well) that also sets him apart in this way as well, like when he becomes ecstatic upon learning he passed his prefect trials. it’s cute imo. 

hiro is... complicated. and i like that. 

 tl;dr i don’t think hiro hates himself, i just don’t think he was raised to believe that he has worth outside of being zeus’ vassal, and it’s hard for him to think otherwise until it’s spelled out for him.

//hey remember when solmare gave hiro literally one of the best spin-offs in all of wizardess heart? and how it was super insightful to how hiro actually thinks and feels? and how it was so genuinely sweet and emotional and it's all in a fucking SPIN-OFF of all things?? i'm never allowed to forget.
