Maura isn't sure how her night had ended up sat across from Paxton, her hair tied up into a messy bun, a stolen hoodie off of the backseat of his car slumped over otherwise bare shoulders after he'd been at her beck and call.

(something about her not being able to walk home at 3am by herself, which, once he'd left that doubt in her mind, she agreed with.)

Heels kick at the ground under the seat, her head moving to rest in folded arms on the table in front of her as she lets out the most dramatic sigh anyone has heard since 2024 begun.

"It seems personal." Maura remarks, her tone a little frustrated. It wasn't at him, but she'd by lying if she said she wasn't at least a little disappointed to be matched with her friend. She'd romanticised tonight, planned the next three dates after it, shaved, only to sit down across from Paxton when the maître d' had lead her here.

"Pax." She remarks with a sterness she reserves for when she wants someone to stop talking, "you're digging into a hole." Of course she knew they shared a mutual opinion on their lack of want to date each other, she'd never even questioned it and even the buzz around them, where the air held excitement for the evening, couldn't blur that line for her.

( after all, he was her garden gnome, and she's never read a storybook where those turn into shining knights ).

"I forgive you." Maura speaks in sing-song, her attitude adjusting into the person Pax has become accustomed to — less glaring, more relaxed in his presence —. She then reaches for her wine glass as she stares at him expectantly before realising she should probably explain what she forgave him for, seeing as none of this was even remotely his fault. "For how much you really, really, don't want to date me. But you can at least be a gentleman and cover my three dollars."

It's probably a lost argument. The moment Paxton's excitement deflated when Maura was guided to his table, all hope had vanished from him. So early on in the year, the universe already ruined a date for him before it even started, and he had high hopes for this. The anticipation wondering who might be matched with him on this blind date event hyped him up for, well…

"It's nothing against you. We both already know I don't want to date you." Paxton furrows his brows, his eyes shifting to the table top for a split second before he quickly adds, "A-and that you don't want to date me! It's a mutual undateable feeling between us, and I signed up for this looking for…"

What was it, love? Nah, that's too fairytale. But a chance at a connection of some sort would have been night. The butterflies Leo had left in his stomach had reignited Paxton's desire to try and get back out there.

"It's fine. I'm going to destroy the garlic butter shrimp and make the most of it."

Ever since her break up, Esme has been trying to keep busy from feeling the tinge of sadness that was dwelling in the darkness. Which was probably why she took up Paxton's suggestion on hanging out. The blonde had hopes for the relationship to be different, she even allowed herself to fall hard and fast and now she dealt with the hurt side of it all, once again. Esme screamed when the ball made it into the last cup as she jumped up and down, shaking Paxton's arm in excitement. "We did it!" She said laughing.

Willow moved through the crowd with a smile. The party was bigger than she had imagined, but she was excited to see everyone's costumes. Halloween was always a fun holiday to see everyone's creativity on display. "Nice antlers." She laughed as she spotted Paxton. "You enjoying yourself?"

While away, Clare made sure to make a list of individuals she could reach out to in the community to advance her reach as an illustrator. She did have her concepts on pen and paper but it was a matter of knowing who she could network with to progress her career. Of course she could ask Axel for help, but Clare wanted to at least try on her own volition to see what waves she could make. One of the individuals she was able to find was Paxton Brady. Clare liked his work and thought he'd be a decent start. "Uh hi...how are you doing?"

"Got you something," A flash of a smirk lined Quincy's lips as he dropped a paper boat full of fries on the counter. It was a slow day and even if it hadn't been, he wouldn't have given it any mind. Perks of being the owner. "And-- the obligatory milkshake," Chocolate. Quincy liked to think of himself as a generous man, but as he and Paxton both knew, not all gestures came without strings. "Before you ask, yes-- I do have a favor to ask. It's not a big one, just hear me out..."

Amira loved running a cute little booth version of her shop. She got to decorate it with pink and glitter and loved to set up the large rainbow lollipops. It felt like she was playing a game of Candyland and it brought her comfort. She knew that she wanted to walk around for a little while as well, so she had one of her employees manning the stand for a couple hours but she didn't want anyone else to set up. she had a very specific way she wanted it to look and didn't trust anyone else to get it right. After setting up the free samples of fudge she noticed a familiar face. "Pax, are you a sweets person? I want to know which fudge you like best."

Generally speaking, Maura was not a smoker, but given the substances she'd already consumed tonight, that was long out of the window. After plucking cigarettes from the pocket of an unsuspecting partygoer on the dancefloor, she'd made her way outside of Sharkys to surround herself in a cloud of smoke.

Leaning up against a wall, unlit cigarette sits between her lips as she nods her head towards Paxton. "You got a light, garden gnome?" Cigarettes were stolen, but when it came to lighting the thing? she hadn't thought that far ahead.

"I'm not, like, jealous of him in any serious way, but I don't know...I get weird vibes with Pax's deal with his ex sometimes. Like, I know they're not friends or anything like that, but I know they still talk sometimes and I might've stalked the guy's Instagram a few times and like, how am I not supposed to feel some kinda way when my boyfriend's ex looks like that, right?

Pax can just be weird about him too, I don't know. It doesn't, like, keep me up at night, but yeah...kinda tickles the ole brain sometimes."

"There used to be at time when Pax occupied the spot of the only person I liked. I was going through it and I couldn't really stand anyone but him and I didn't want to try to either. I put him up on a pedestal and somewhere on the way down off it when I started to see the real him it was like he decided to hit me in the head with the pedestal. Not purposefully, of course, because precious perfect Paxton isn't like that. Anyone who thinks that just hasn't met his petty side. That guy drives me fucking insane."
