another desi ex swiftie here! i'd started liking taylor wayyy before midnights but i agree with ⌛. there was a huge surge in her popularity post midnights. she's a trend right now. desi girls (and guys) like her because white people like her. the moment there is a slight change in her popularity, they'll leave her. it's a sheep mentality; follow the flock. as for black artists, artists like beyonce and rihanna have always been popular here. rihanna even performed in some pre-wedding celebration of mukesh ambani's son, so yeah definitely popular. i guess they are white approved?

I’ve seen “white approved” come up multiple times with desi anons when trying to explain/rationalize why she’s so popular. I think this is definitely part of the legacy of British colonization and white supremacy playing out in India.

But this is basically proof to me that Taylor Swift’s popularity in nonwestern countries is because of these countries obsession with whiteness and not her, and she benefits from this immensely.
