it's so. fascinating and upsetting to me how christians can be like "oh accepting queer people/being queer as a christian/general leftism is being of the world" and then turning around and. mistreating their girlfriends, or being slanderous on their political platforms. obligatory i am not perfect in this area. i'm literally bitching about it on tumblr.com. kalso, recognising these are like 21 year old boys and they will hopefully grow from it. but what if they don't? i genuinely doubt that their older mentors or their churches or their communities are, to use a phrase, rebuking in love on these conservative treatments of others that are not biblically based. i say this because i know these guys. i know how they act, and i know how unrepentant they can be. this can be for a couple of reasons, such as them obscuring information from these mentors, them not understanding the broader picture because of environmental differences so filling in different blanks, and. you know. misogyny which favours the male perspective over the female (binary terms because of the specific story i'm drawing on. also other obvious reasons). and like, sure, i understand the theological perspective of certain things. i can understand how someone can believe that, for example, women shouldn't be pastors or ministers. i don't like it, but i can see the working. i can't see how they get to racism, because there are no anglo people in the Bible, but that's besides the point. i can't see how they can get to "my girlfriend is being a burden for [redacted]" or "i'm just going to post a video laughing at my opponent while she's speaking on my political account, right after [redacted]." what are we doing here? what am i doing here? why don't i have it in me to tell these men "you are defending your actions by conservatism, not by the Bible, which, in fact, are two different things?" why should i feel the responsibility falls on me instead of people who are closer to them who they are more likely to listen to? because they never frame it like i do, of course not. i find this stuff out from my own rabbitholes, or being friends with ex-girlfriends. they don't frame themselves as they are, no one does in all fairness. but i just... idk i don't like the culture, and i don't like the idea that these guys could be high up in christian leadership in the next couple of decades. i know those places are already massive boys' clubs (my dad calls one group "the lads" derogatorily based on the stories i tell of these guys) and i think that attitude is harmful if it continues!
