On a social level, because it’s an amalgamation of various cycling factions and freaks it’s a nice scene. In fact, the community aspect is huge. To a much larger extent than road or MTB it’s a pretty welcoming close-knit scene. The best riders are forthcoming with encouragement and advice, people are generally cool to each other (blog comments aside), there are kids and dogs running around and there’s room for every sort.
Awesome article about why 'Cross rules and why everyone should either race or spectate.  Coolness factor +1.

A lot of our boys are Cat 3,2, and 1.  They are phenomenal.  And they are this way because a lot of them come from really supportive teams who help them rise through the ranks.
I want to give a quick shout out to the Whole Wheel Velo Club.  In addition to other awesome teams that our guys are on, this team has really been a breeding ground for stellar cyclists who are not only fast, but as mentioned in the article, people you want to hang out and have a beer with.
WWVC is MABRA Cyling Widows Approved.

(Chiara Passerini, wife of Cadel Evans, after Evans won the Road World Champz in '09)
While I am conflicted on how I feel about Evans and this tour since I have not always been a fan, as a cycling wife, I know she's super proud.  Technically we still have one more day....but unless he gets eaten by Mega Piranha, what will stop him crapping yellow for an entire year?
( Aren't we all when our boys win something, even if it is a MABRA race?)

No All-American. Does this mean...
That we have to hang out with our significant others/husbands next weekend?
Ugh, I had brunch plans.

Widow Wednesday
Tonight, a fellow widow and I sat on the couch enjoying My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding while our boys hung out in the bike cave talking about cantilever brakes.
The night was a success for both parties.

It seems like those tour spectators are getting rowdy.  Get it together, ya'll....
Seriously, stop caressing those riders as they pass you.  They are sweaty and covered in grime.  Some may have accidentally peed on themselves.

^^pic is from Capital 'Cross '09.  The snow was pretty awesome.^^
You know what the wives are all freaking out about?!  CROSS SEASON.  News on the cyclocross front, non-racers, is the Super 8 series.
I am all about recruiting weary wives and husbands to let  their significant others race bikes---but most importantly, I want them to race 'cross because it is just such a great atmosphere for spectating.  It doesn't get better than a great group of riders, food, some places have playgrounds for kids, little belgian courses, and most importantly, BEER.  I spend every waking moment of the road season waiting for September and it now so so close and I cannot wait.
For the lucky spectators, you may even see someone dressed like this. HOT.
What I have not heard anything about are the tandem races.  I hope that they bring it back because there is nothing quite like it.  If I wasn't so out of shape (or lazy), this would be something I would do with my husband....in costume only, of course.
Riders---if your S.O. needs convincing, send me a note.  I will make them beg you to race 'cross.
On another note, how jazzed am I that Capital 'Cross is back?!?  Hopefully those tore-up grounds healed up.  I also hope that it snows again.

First!
I noticed that there are so many posts up until 2009 dedicated to the wonderful world of cyling widows.  Here in the MABRA area, the widows are a fun bunch.  We are the ladies, men, children, pets in the feed zone.  We are the people with the ability to carry three camper chairs, a baby in a sling, a dog on a leash, and cooler full of water and maybe the occasional beer if someone is fun and remembered.
We are your biggest fans.  We also complain a lot.  We talk a lot of shit about teams we think suck and high five the men/women we love.
So here's to resurrecting the widows.
