by and large, looking at archived threads. & as a quiet observer of the fan culture prior to the release of the show, fan discussion didnt give a fuck about racial themes when lestat and louis was eating slaves, when louis said he feared the songs of his slaves, when claudia said lestat didnt ‘trust human slaves’, when vampire & witch matriarchs of color (akasha, who was described as paleskinned but is associated w/ ancient egypt/mesopotamia + merrick, whos described as creole) were casted as one note evil psychos metaphorically molesting these poor euro gentry / slaveowners turned vampires .. w/ both of these evil matriarchs being overthrown by the archetype of the immortal european monster/s. didnt even care to analyze the power dynamics w these characters [with anne’s nonfiction/historical/other works in mind] or how the chronicles waxed poetics on how ‘mixing races’ would fix race relations [with the implication of the elimination of darker skin being part n parcel of immortality, as theres only pale skinned supernatural creatures in the end. s/o the myth of lumeria!]. i missed when yall was just str8 up like ‘i hate that my louis is black, da woke mob went too far’ cuz the condescending concern on amc louis bearing the source material in mind is absolutely hilarious to observe. u dont care about racial themes, ur just pissy that some people got introduced to the chronicles thru the amc show & have articulated preferences different than urs.

i told my mom i wanted to see rotb again but with a lot of hesitance because of the price (it's a LOT at our cinemark) and she started looking at cheaper theatres. sent me one for $7 at 8 am, then one for $11 at 12 pm.

my #analysis or whatever but its really interesting with how much they cut out of the Jon at the banquet 1x01 scene compared to (at least the leaked version online) the original pilot and book. like not to be like yeah grrm put this much detail in there for a reason but a lot of the detail that they removed really hurts jon as a character and its so jarring to see how much they cut to take the chapter down to about 3 minutes of the episode.

You put it so well!! It's just such a key difference in them. Lmao I am about to read into this so hard, I'm normal I swear. I'm sure they both had answers instantly, but have completely different approachs. Seb, as you said, is so sure of himself! He lays all of his cards out instantly because it really is not that deep to him. Complimenting Fernando this one time is not going to have any negative affect, and he does not really see it as a game. The way he says it so quick, in addition to it already being a pretty good compliment, makes it more meaningful. It feels so honest, and like you said, is a friendly gesture. Maybe Fernando will be genuine too if Seb extends the olive branch?

Meanwhile Fernando has to think about it for six seconds, and you would think that time allowance would make his compliment more meaningful but NOPE. As you said, he has to win, but instead imo he comes off looking worse. You can just read into his answer so much more. Does he genuinely think Seb is fast? Did he want to say something else? Would that something else be more negative or more positive? Also "fast" is such a loaded answer imo in this sport; like it seems like such a non-answer at first. He had to think for six seconds, and imo was trying to think of an answer that would both: not compliment Seb too hard but not look like he's not trying(because he wants to win y'know.) But then it ends up with him basically bitterly admitting Seb is genuine compeition to him. I think if he didn't feel threatened by Seb, he would've answered instantly. He tries to keep his cards to his chest, but it's like he tripped and they all fell onto the floor face-up in front of him.

Fernando is NOT winning the idgaf war. I just find it funny that both of them are pretty terrible hiding their true emotion, but the way Fernando goes about it makes it explode in his face. So in his attempt to win the interaction at any cost, he just trips and lets Seb win by being too much a tryhard LOL. But I really love it about both of them. Seb isn't afraid to compliment and as I said, Fernando's avoidance in itself is a compliment(bcs it shows he sees Seb as a legitimate contender.) Your tag about Seb being passive agressive saying "Oh." is so real haha. He does not understand Fernando's evasiveness at all bcs this is really no big deal. And meanwhile Fernando doesn't understand Seb's openess at all; doesn't he understand the game??? Why isn't he playing along???

its so interesting to me how tezukas art is just... like very ageless to me. in the way of yeah ofc u can TELL its his you can tell his drawing eras and how it progresses if you study it enough but you cant really like. determinedly say yeah its from this certain era. like i feel it truly is just in a league of its own (altho i do need to read more manga from the 60s and earlier lol so i might just be talking out of my ass here). im reading something that you can TELL is from the 90s-00s by art alone alongside it and idk. its just very interesting how different eras have different art trademarks
