Shen Qingqiu (Shen Yuan) in Sargent’s Repose. I imagine this is how White Lotus disciple Luo Binghe sees his Shizun while in reality, the Peak Lord is drooling, hair a mess, and has crumbs on his robes.
Now for a close-up:
And the sketch I posted earlier is linked here. Hope this ended up meeting expectations!
Your Easter Egg for this year is this view of what the scene looks like without the Shizun goggles.

this is just kind of a big tangent but like I fucking hate when nerd ass losers see a game with even vague similarities to another game and go "ERMMM. HOW ORIGINALL (SARCASTIC). THIS IS JUST ANOTHER GAME IN THE STUPID TREND OF-" and then they list every genre/label under the sun to try and discredit the game as unoriginal by comparing it to other games. 90% of the time they haven't even played the game they're complaining about. they just see pixel art and get angry ig.
like look at this image. look at this and tell me it's not just alphabet soup. what do half of these words even mean. congrats on discovering what a genre is I guess?????????? good for you?????? do you want a fuckin award or something???? a little handclap??? shall I pour you a little glass of wine for being oh so smart and sophisticated for figuring out that Things Can Have Little Similarities Sometimes?????? just say that 7 years later you're still bitter that undertale got popular and leave oh my god "quirky dialogue" oh I'm sorry did you want your dialogue boring and soulless yeah let me just remove the personality from the game. here's your Nothing Burger I hope you're happy. "pixel art" oh so i guess like almost every game that came out in the 80s and 90s is actually just part of a so-called "2010s-2020s trend". These people genuinely think earthbound and celeste are "Basically The Same". it's not even an rpg. You had to throw in platformers in your disgusting word smoothie because otherwise you couldn't even find any real similarities besides "has a story and contains pixels". they think the psychological horror game Omori is just Undertale 2. yeah sorry guys Super Fuckin Mario Brothers is part of the quirky rpg metroidvania fjhksdgjhlkfgsdhkfgh-like diarrhea trend. cant play it now or you're cringe and bad. do you people ever get TIIIRRREEDDDDD. DO YOU EVER ENJOY THINGS. ON THEIR OWN MERIT. DO YOU EVEN GIVE THINGS A CHANCE. YOU'RE NOT SPECIAL FOR NOT LIKING THINGS YOU'RE BORING AND ANNOYING AS FUCK. I'm so fucking done
#im not gonna even unpack the meme format it's literally just “haha fat person said the thing so it's bad and cringe” like grow the fuck up#rant#this is just the notlikeothergirls thing except it's mostly grown ass men doing it so it's seen as more acceptable somehow#like “ERMMM I DONT LIKE POPULAR GAMESSSS... IM TOO COOL FOR THAT...” no one likes you#if they played the games and decided they weren't for them that'd be one thing. I can understand that.#not everyone is going to like the same things I like and I can live with that. that's fine.#but when you look at a game you so obviously haven't even touched#and decide it's terrible based on Nothing (aka Because It's Marginally Successful/Popular)#and then try to excuse that by somehow connecting it back to every other game you don't like no matter how big of a stretch it takes#that's shitty!#just say you don't wanna play it and leave people who like it alone#you don't have to moralize your taste in media#omori#celeste#earthbound#undertale#metroid#rpg#rpgmaker#indie game#indie games#indie rpg#games#gaming#video games

it fucking kills me that i have seen NO ONE talking about the reaction jess jordan, kendall roy’s assistant, has. because it is jess, and rava and sophie roy, who have the reactions that twitter and reddit and all the succession lovers are looking for in shiv, for some goddamn reason. it’s jess who not so subtly pleads with greg to delay calling the election, who is blown off dismissively and ignorantly by greg who cannot understand or even SEE how strong of a panic reaction she is havjng. to him, and every other roy and tom and everyone else at their level, this is just another crazy day with literally zero consequences. a fascist dictator president will literally not change the quality of their lives as rich white people. but it will change jess’ life, as a biracial woman. it will change rava and sophie roy’s lives, in spite of kendall’s money and protection. and the show purposefully cuts off their reactions — jess blinking fast and breathing hard and about to have a panic attack meltdown in the hallway, rava and sophie scared in the back of an SUV — because the show isn’t about them. the show is about the roys, who do not care about the consequences of their actions, partially because they never have to SEE the consequences of their actions. greg does not see jess freaking out; even when she is clearly panicked in front of her he cannot see her pain and if he could, he wouldn’t care. it’s only when he turns his back on her that she starts to break down, which is a great if painful blocking choice. not only is it realistic — she can’t lose face in her workplace, she can’t react negatively when she works for the guy who owns the Devil Right Wing Fascist TV Network, and she most certainly can’t react any way people don’t like because she is one of the few, if not the only, black women in the building and working for the roys. while greg sighs and laughs about this day being crazy, she is having a meltdown as she fears what this election result means to her. if rava, a wealthy woman of color with a powerful ex husband, is scared, how much more scared is jess? is everyone else under jess?
but the show cuts off her reaction and takes us back to shiv because this show is from the roy’s pov, and this episode is largely from shiv’s pov. shiv “cares about democracy” and the country to an extent, because democracy only effects her to an extent. she knows on paper this election is bad news. she also knows it’s not going to change her life directly because she’s rich. like her brothers, who do not care at all who is President, who only care about which candidate will give them what they want, shiv is more upset because this election means she isn’t getting what she wants. she’s going to lose her power in the potential matsson deal. because that is how the roys chose who would be president: they chose the candidate they could buy and who could sell them control over their interests for the lowest number, and meincken outbid jimenez by a landslide. tldr the reaction people are looking for in shiv and in the roys were there, but in jess and rava. and even rava and jess aren’t progressives, aren’t “feminist icons”, they’re also complicit and victimized all at once, like shiv is, but with far less say and power. it’s almost like… the show about face eating leopards… is making a point that if you get in a cage with a hungry leopard, at some point you will run out of steaks to throw at it and it, too, will eat your face off. huh.
#succession#succession spoilers#this is a ramble but my god i am getting heated now#so many gifs and essay posts about the roys… zero about rava and Jess…. who are actually used as surrogates for the audience and marginalize#*d and even they HAVE HIGHER AMOUNTS OF POWER AND CONTROL AND AGENCY than the average person and woman of color#like. idk y’all I know the succession fan base is overwhelmingly white and therefore has a white USAmerican pov etc etc etc but my god I am#seeing greg levels of missing the point and not recognizing the pain in characters other than the Roy’s lol#and like I get it’ they’re the main characters#but also like. idk. jesse armstrong has a p strong vision and uses his characters effectively so like#maybe let’s look at some of those minor characters reactions here to paint a less insular picture yknow

Seaxburh of Wessex [...] is the only woman to appear in an Anglo-Saxon regnal list. She was the wife of Cenwalh, king of the West Saxons, who had at one time been married to and repudiated the sister of Penda of Mercia, thereby provoking the latter’s ire [and leading to his own temporary exile, possibly alongside his new queen]. Bede recorded that after Cenwalh’s death there was a troubled period during which sub-kings ‘took upon themselves the government of the kingdom, dividing it up and ruling for about ten years.’ [It is very likely that he deliberately omitted any mention of Seaxburh as he viewed her marriage to Cenwalh, and subsequent right to the throne, as illegitimate]. The ASC, on the other hand, says that in 672, ‘Cenwalh died and his queen Seaxburh reigned one year after him.’
-Annie Whitestead, 'Women and Power in Anglo-Saxon England' / Stefany Wragg, "Early English Queens, 650-850"
'Later medieval sources characterize [Seaxburh's] reign in different ways. William of Malmesbury praises her military and political accomplishments, doing all that was required of a king but also ruling ‘her subjects mercifully … [she] did everything, in short, in such a way that there was no difference to be seen, except her sex’. [In the thirteenth century, Roger of Wendover claimed that Seaxburh ruled for one year in Cenwalh’s stead, ‘but was expelled [from] the kingdom by the indignant nobles, who would not go to war under the conduct of a woman.']
#historicwomendaily#Seaxburh of Wessex#anglo-saxons#my post#If I had to choose one example to demonstrate how Anglo-Saxon women were marginalized and excluded from chronicles#it would have to be Seaxburh#She was the only woman to appear in the Anglo-Saxon regnal list in her own right#Her life involved a provocative marriage; a royal exile; and a seemingly violent succession crisis#And we still know next to nothing about her#She is entirely lost and obscured in the annals of history

Debunking the dream: Who is allowed to succeed in fashion?
BY BELLA WEBB AND MALIHA SHOAIB
This story is based on an exclusive survey of over 600 fashion professionals, which sought to answer two key questions: what does it take to reach a certain level of success in fashion, and what does it take to stay happy at that level?
“The employees who are happy in fashion and reach a good position are the ones who have enough economic capital to work for free or for very little during their first several years in the industry,” says anthropologist Giulia Mensitier. Paradoxically, precariousness is a luxury that not everyone can afford, and talent has very little to do with long-term fashion careers.”
Survey respondents painted a picture of an industry obsessed with appearance — even in behind-the-scenes roles — where social connections and socioeconomic status are a form of currency few can succeed without. The idea that fashion has become more diverse and inclusive is misleading, survey respondents say. In fact, barriers to inclusion have become more sophisticated and covert. Many people from marginalised groups now feel disillusioned with an industry that promised to change but didn’t and are seeking opportunities elsewhere.
For marginalised people, trying to build a career in an industry that wasn’t created by or for people like them can be confusing and frustrating. Instead of community, many find that fashion is a clique.
In many cases, achieving success in fashion isn’t about what you know but who you know. Nearly half (47 per cent) of survey respondents with family in fashion said their socioeconomic status had a positive impact on their careers.
Personal connections count for a lot in an industry with notoriously opaque hiring practices, a penchant for nepotism, and a heavy emphasis on being seen at the right events.
“There is a strong beauty bias,” says one sustainability consultant who responded to the survey. “If I look around my organisation, everyone is conventionally attractive. No one has visible disabilities, and most are white.” A strategic consultant was told they didn’t have the “right look” for their career, which typically centres youth, Eurocentric features and a slim, visibly able body.
Colleagues from wealthy backgrounds openly mock what a [fashion assistant] from a lower socioeconomic class is wearing if they aren’t wearing emerging labels or trendy clothes. They look down on cheaper brands — but some of us can’t even afford Zara,” says the anonymous founder of Fashion Assistants.

Everyone hating on Greg because he’s such a slimeball. The thing is, he’s not any more of a slimeball than any of the other character. His sliminess is notable in that he is bad at it. People are having a reaction, not to how scummy whatever he does is (because he rarely does anything uniquely shitty), but to how obvious and transparent he is when he does it.
If you went down a list of all the objectionable things Greg has done, you could probably name another Succession character who did the same exact thing but with more elegance and subtlety. This might make Greg more irritating, but not a worse person. Tbh, if anything he is less sinister in that everyone knows 100% what he is about at all time so its not like he could really manipulate anybody (except Tom I guess, but only because Tom is deeply weird).
#greg is the worst of all of them they say#he's actually the least bad by quite a margin if we look at everyone's sins objectively#people are having a visceral reaction to how cringe he is about being evil#he's not super evil he's moderately evil and super autistic#succession#succession posting#hbo succession#cousin greg#greg hirsch

recently i've switched back to browsing the twitter feed of my old main acct since i had the impression the accts i followed there were more serious/political and would have more gaza info. and weirdly that isn't true? for some reason currently the feed on my fandom account (which has become my main at this point) has a lot more?....but what they *do* have on the old one's feed is tons of gender discourse stuff that make me feel stressed and bad
#today i saw in quick succession:#a tweet about how 'theyfabs' who were femme presenting should just stop pretending to gender complexity and admit they're cis#and a tweet about how people who dont mind being referred to with their agab but like presenting otherwise sometimes should try hormones#i'm all for listening to people but These Are Contradictory Messages.. im listening but you can’t both be right#also: still not clear on if indians ARE marginalized cuz we're brown or UNmarginalized cuz asians are privileged compared to other poc#or if some indians are marginalized but not my kind specifically. MY belief is it's context dependant but The Internet is not A Context#you'll recall i have a chip on my shoulder about india being one category when its A Big Thing Like Europe. It Is For Reasons Like THis#imagine trying to quanitfy !!!ALL EUROPEANS!!! on a binary of oppressed or not oppressed

It's so funny when conservatives are like "if we raise minimum wage it'll hurt small businesses" like babygirl every policy you've ever enacted has made it damn near impossible to run a small business
#if you actually wanted to help small businesses then you would support universal healthcare so that small businesses dont have to either#shoulder the cost of providing insurance or not offer insurance at all and therefore have a very high employee turn over rate#if you cared about small businesses you would have a vested interest in reducing rent so that the business could increase their profit#margin and the employees could afford to live and work in the area#etc#i feel like in america at least its almost impossible to start a business and be successful without doing coke or going insane and#exploiting your employees
