1)So, we got to see Compress getting fitted for his new robo-arm back during Twice and Toga’s flashback of how he was sending them into the Hassaki to tear them a new one- Giran was fitting him for it in the background there, though it was clearly supposed to be a surprise, since the panels are structured in a such a way to hide Compress’s left arm in this and prior chapters, and Clonepress was missing it because he has taken from Compress’s measurements before he got the arm fitted. The question is, can Compress still use his quirk through the robo-hand, or will that require some training on his behalf? 

In any case it’ll be a useful tool for a magician that specialises in misdirection, able to hide all sorts of handy devices, like say, a storage area to hide his compressed marbles in so he’s got a hidden stock of marbles literally up his sleeve.

2)I swear Overhaul is either is shock or serious drugs right now because he barely reacted to losing his left arm beyond a look of surprise and subdued shock- or perhaps it’s because he’s ‘used’ to losing his arms? He mentioned that’s it’s quite painful for him to Overhaul them back together, so perhaps he experiences similar pain whenever he fixes himself back together? Might explain his surprising tolerance for punishment if so, but Overhaul doesn’t really seem too upset by being mutilated by the league-it’s not until he’s losing his right arm, and thus his ability to fix himself back to normal, that he really starts to panic and allows the dam to crack behind the composed face he’s keeping up to not allow the league the satisfaction of enjoying killing him- when he realises that they don’t want him dead, just powerless and alone for the rest of his life, it begins to sink in how utterly screwed he is going forward, especially scene most of that fate was of his own making

3)“oh SHIT, never mind using the bullet, he’ll just rip off both his arm and leave him basically quirkless as well. And oh boy, even Shigaraki called Overhaul on his hypocritical bullshit about how quirks are the problem, while using his own quirk to go against them.”-See, this scene is the main reason I’m pretty certain Overhaul eventually wanted to get rid of his own quirk, because if that’s indeed the case, Shigaraki just granted his desire in the most ironic manner possible- taking away the benefits of his quirk, but still technically leaving Overhaul with the ‘disease’ for the rest of his life, and no way to profit from it or cure himself.

Using the bullet would not only waste the valuable resource, it would actually grant Overhaul a measure of ‘relief’ going forward, because at least at the end of it, he succeeded in curing himself of his own sickness, and so Shigaraki just go’s “’Snicker snak!’- there you go! Quirkless, and with way less time and effort you put in to reach the same result!”. 

 So to sum up, Overhaul’s now doomed to spend the rest of his life tormented by his self-image of himself as an ‘infected’ individual, tortured by his Germophobia and delusions about the world, alone and bereft from any allies  or friends he may have had, abandoned and discarded by the only person in the world that he looked up to and wanted the approval of (if the boss was conscious enough to do so, I can totally see that being the first thing out of his mouth) handicapped through lacking his limbs and powers in a super powered society (remember how rough Deku had it in a middle school environment?) And Overhaul’s a member of the criminal side of society, with presumably plenty of rival gangs he’s made enemies of throughout the years in defence of the Hassaki, whom will now be looking for payback since he’s no longer a threat to them, and once the remnants of the grunt forces of the Hassaki learn of his new condition, they’ll be fighting amongst themselves to get first crack at killing him.

 Not to mention the Precepts will have lost faith in him for failing to deliver on his promises and for how he demonstrated how little they mattered to him through Rikiya and Nemoto’s ‘contributions’ to his fight- he’s utterly screwed going forward with no hope of rescue- and I say good riddance.

4)“Shigaraki just gave Overhaul a little taste of what he did to Mirio AND Eri at the same time.’-Don’t forget Nighteye, whom he de-limbed as well and cut his future as a heroic mentor to Izuku short in the same move- Nighteye’s not gonna be teaching anybody whilst he’s missing most of his insides, so he’ll be down and out for a while- Overhaul probably lost roughly the same ‘pound of flesh’ he took from Nighteye here.

5)“Oh, but about that you still care, don’t ya?”-And that’s the last remnants of Overhaul’s pride rising to the surface here- despite everything he lost, the bullets and their effects were still ‘his’ creations, weapons he toiled hard day and night into creating from scratch, no matter the sacrifices, and if the league hadn’t interrupted the convoy here, they’ve have been remembered as Overhaul’s weapons in the police report. However, now that the league literally stolen them from right under his nose and made their intent to utilise them for themselves clear, Overhaul’s having to face the fact that his legacy, everything he worked for, has been stolen and will eb corrupted so that the public will only remember the League as the creators of the bullets going forward, not Overhaul- he’s lost his last claim to fame, and realising he’s got absolutely nothing to show for everything he’s been through proved to be the last straw for him, hence the mental breakdown. 

It’s an excellent way to bookend the arc for the league as well, scene their side of the story started with Overhaul confronting them over their lack of an actual plan to take down society compared to his own methodical and carefully rationalised goals, ending up with him violently proving to the league that the Hassaki were the superior criminals. So what do they do? 

They identify and take advantage of Overhaul’s character flaws, infiltrate the Hasskai and sabotage it from within, manipulate a brawl between Overhaul and the heroes to end in the heroes’ victory over Overhaul at little risk to themselves, then ambush Overhaul and steal his plans and his weapons right in front of him, taking everything he’s been working for and adopting his plans for their own use going forward, ensuring that there’s nothing left for Overhaul to be remembered for, and proving that being the better criminal doesn’t mean being the smartest criminal, but sometimes, just the better thief- it also fits since they’re still warming up to the fact that they’ve got to figure out a way to destabilise society on their own without help from the adults this time since AFO got captured, so when someone comes along with a better, more concrete idea, the league just steal it and market it as their own- problem solved!

6)“Oh, what a beautiful symphony… those screams of terror and frustration… Wonderful… The right soundtrack for the Evil boy band to make their exit, with Mr. Compress dabing on your pain, just to rub it in.”-I think the best part of that is that we don’t actually get to see Overhaul screaming- we get to imagine whatever twisted expression of anguish, rage, despair and fear we want to on his face, and it’s glorious- possibly the only way Shigaraki could possibly have been more ‘screw you’ to Overhaul was if he took his face hand off, curled every finger but the middle one in, then held it up behind him with one hand whist he walked away, juggling the bullets with the other and whistled a jaunty, cheerful tune like ‘Steamboat Willie’ or something

Dive (Final Rose)

Penny dreamed, but her dreams were not of open fields or starlit skies. Instead, she dove into the InfoNet, her mind wandering endlessly through the seemingly limitless sea of information that awaited her. Whether it was blogs, news sites, or even video and image sharing sites, she saw it all. There was the good and the bad, things that would have shaken anyone’s faith in civilisation and things that would have restored it as well.

It was all there, waiting for her, just like it was every time she closed her eyes. Few people realised just how deep her connection to the InfoNet ran. Professor Dia and her father had been the architects of the InfoNet, and even now they maintained access to backdoors that no one else would ever find.

They had made Penny a nexus, one of the key points of the InfoNet, as well as a chief administrator whose access was topped only by theirs and a select few. It was not an exaggeration to say that she could, on a whim, seize control of almost any device connected to the InfoNet with as little effort as it took for her to make a fist. 

It was a terrifying ability, but her father knew her well. She would never abuse it. In fact, the most common thing she used it for was telling Ruby what was in her dorm room’s fridge, so the other girl would know if she needed to buy anything while they were out. Oh, and sometimes, she used it to send Ruby or her other friends funny pictures on their scrolls. 

As dawn approached, Penny emerged from her dive into the InfoNet. A human or Faunus would have been mentally exhausted by exposure to so much information, but she felt rejuvenated. Her own systems were exquisitely precise, and the feedback she received from them could at times seem overwhelming. Losing herself in a video about a cat knocking over cups or a dog chasing after its own tail was the perfect way to unwind and relax.

Rising, she ran through her usual cleanup and maintenance subroutines, watching for any possible signs of system degradation or error build up. All of her scans came back clear, and she smiled as her optics came online. Robo-Kitty was still snoozing away on the corner of her bed, and she briefly tapped into his prosthetic leg to see if he was well. As she had expected, her pet cat was in excellent health.

A quick patch into the systems that controlled her fish tank revealed a similar story for her pet goldfish. They were doing fine too. She got up and headed toward the shower. She did not sweat as a human or Faunus did, but regular cleaning was still essential since she did go outside regularly, and combat against Grimm inevitably led to a bit of muck and grime building up.

After her shower, she headed to the kitchen to prepare breakfast for her pets. Robo-Kitty was his usual friendly self as he slunk onto the kitchen counter and waited eagerly for his morning meal. Once he had his food, she made a quick stop at the fish tank to feed her goldfish too. There were systems in place to allow for automated feeding, but she liked to do it herself when she could.

Satisfied that all was in order, she spent the next hour reviewing any files or messages that had come in during the night while playing with Robo-Kitty. He was a cheerful cat, and nothing pleased him more than to curl up on her lap and pick fights with her hands while the television played in the background.

Of course, it was eventually time to leave. Classes were due to begin shortly, and she did not wish to be late. Based on past experience, leaving her room at this time would also maximise her chances of running into Ruby and the others.

Sure enough, Ruby and the others were on their way to class, and Penny fell into step beside them. A drone hovered overhead, and she took a moment to open a connection to it since Diana wouldn’t have one hanging around unless she wanted to talk.

“Good morning, friends!” Penny said.

“Good morning, Penny,” Ruby replied as the others returned her greeting in their own ways. “Did you get a good night’s sleep?”

“In a manner of speaking, yes.” Penny smiled. Splitting her consciousness, she allowed some of her processors to focus on the data that Diana was sending. Apparently, there had been a breach of Atlas’s perimeter defences. Based on present estimates, the number of Grimm was still fairly manageable, but Diana wanted her to know in case it got out of hand. “Did you?”

Ruby made a face. “Not really. I think the thermostat in our room broke or something, but it was way too hot.” She fanned herself. “Even with all the windows open and everything.”

“You should have called me,” Penny said. “I am more than qualified to fix a thermostat.”

“I didn’t want to trouble you.”

“It’s not trouble.” Penny smiled. “Or you could have asked Diana to send a drone over. Many of her drones can perform routine maintenance without outside supervision. It is quite ingenious.”

“And kind of terrifying,” Yang said, grinning. “Since I bet she’s also got automated kill routines too.”

Penny wanted to deny it, but Yang was right. Buried in Diana’s combat-capable drones were routines specifically designed to optimise their lethality if necessary. “Not on the repair drones,” she said at last since that much, at least, was true. Her brows furrowed. “But were you able to identify the problem?”

“No.” Ruby took a bite out of a cookie she’d brought along. “But we reported it, so it should be fixed by the time we get back. Beacon is pretty good about stuff like that.” She grinned. “You looking forward to mix and match today?”

Mix and match was a training program that Professor Farron ran. It involved mixing the teams up, so students could get experience working with people outside of their teams. “I am looking forward to it. It is always nice to work with new people.”

“I just hope you don’t get Cardin,” Yang muttered. “Although hopefully he’s learned his lesson. I swear Blake was about two seconds from killing him last week.”

“He is… unpleasant,” Penny murmured. “But I think he will do better this time. If nothing else, he resents failure, so he may try to get along better with people to avoid it.”

“Here’s hoping,” Yang replied. “Anyone you’re hoping to get?”

Penny paused. “I would, of course, enjoy working with any of my friends.” And wasn’t it great that she had so many now? “But I would not mind working with some of the new students either. We have had several join us this year, and they are unfamiliar to me. I do have files on them, but it isn’t the same.”

“Oh?” Weiss raised one eyebrow. “Do you have a file on Rin Tohsaka?”

Penny nodded. “Expert in close combat with particular skill in utilising Dust to augment her abilities.  Her Semblance allows her to massively increase her abilities temporarily. It can also be concentrated in certain parts of her body, increase the size of the boost even further.” Her brows furrowed. “Enhancement is more than sufficient to reduce solid concrete to powder in a single strike, and there is video footage of her crushing heavily armoured Grimm with seemingly little effort.”

“Heh.” Yang snickered. “You’d better keep her away from you next week then, Weiss. Otherwise, you’re going to look like a piñata.” She grinned. “What do you have on Averia?”

Penny delved into her files again. “Averia is apparently a killer robot.” She gave the pink-haired girl an apologetic file. “It seems your file is deemed classified even to me. However, I do believe your sister added that, so it wouldn’t be completely empty.” She looked at her. “Based on the scans I have run, you are completely organic.”

“Thanks,” Averia drawled. “That’s good to know.”

“You’re welcome.” Penny smiled. “But I was hoping to work with Asami Sato this week. Her Semblance is fascinating, and I am curious to see how it interacts with me. If she enhance machinery, it is entirely possible that she might be able to enhance me as well.”

“That would be awesome,” Ruby said. “Imagine how big your death lasers would be!”

“They are properly referred to as heavy assault lasers although I do admit that they tend to be lethal when deployed.” Penny giggled. “And it would be nice to speak to Asami more as well. She is often in the professor’s lab, but we have rarely spoken. Diana says that she is nice, however.”

“She’s pretty cool,” Ruby said. “I actually asked her for some tips about streamlining the transformation mechanism on Crescent Rose, and she had some good ideas. I’m not sure if I’ll follow through with them, but it never hurts to ask another expert.”

“That is good,” Penny said. She looked ahead. “But I think we should increase our speed. We our currently running ten seconds late, and I do not think Professor Farron will be pleased if we are late.”

Author’s Notes

Just another normal morning for Penny. Incidentally, Robo-Kitty is a friendly guy, and it’s not unusual for him to find his way out of her room and hang around the campus before heading back after class is done. Thanks to his robotic prosthetic leg, Penny can keep an eye on him no matter where he is, and she can authorise him to open automated doors and other security measures so he can enter and exit buildings like a regular student. He often finds his way to Professor Goodwitch’s office since she is quite fond of cats and often spoils him. Penny is fully aware of this but has wisely kept silent about it.

DBH Connor Headcanons:

• Connor is programmed, as an advanced prototype, to be able to adapt to any given situation and manipulate his own body language, voice and appearance in order to adapt to a suspect or victim’s behaviour. He can play the good cop and bad cop simultaneously, such as during the Carlos Ortiz android interrogation.

• Connor didn’t actually like dogs when he first met Hank, as he was only 3 months old by that point and spent the majority of his time either investigating or in Cyberlife tower either in stasis or reviewing maintenance /updates. He said he liked dogs in order to win Hank’s favour, but upon actually meeting Sumo, he quickly realised he did in fact like them. Sumo was the first dog he ever met.

• Connor, despite his awkwardness when talking to humans or comforting, is actually equipped with basic psychological – analysis software and is able to be of use when faced with a number of psychological issues that may affect any human victims including PTSD. He is a fully trained therapist if needed.

• Those at Cyberlife, however, did not take into account that these responses and assets could back-fire when used against a hard – boiled alcoholic lieutenant.

• Connor is programmed with software from an amalgamation of androids to assist with any possible situation. He has basic child – care in order to comfort and gain the trust of children in frightful situations, his crime-scene analysis software is a highly advanced version of that a house maintenance android would have in order to maintain prime hygiene within the home, his social interaction and adaptation software is based on that of android talk show hosts and actors that would require quick – time reaction and proper adaptation to events.

• Despite his more lanky appearance, Connor is extremely strong even by Android standards and is able to lift weights akin to that of construction and labour androids such as the likes of Luther.

• These abilities however have to be tightly monitored and measured when doing near all tasks, his software precision altered even slightly could be disastrous. The exact pressures are critical between different tasks – from petting Sumo or helping an android/Hank to stopping an elevator with his bare hands, kicking a door off its hinges or even restraining an android the size of Luther. His software is managed with excruciatingly neat detail, with some situations forced to involve less power than others. He wouldn’t be allowed to use any such strength against a human or deviant to be captured as it could pose unnecessary damage or harm. He physically would not be allowed while being a machine unless completely necessary. As a deviant, however, he would have to monitor these pressures himself.

• When he is emotional, these pressure monitors can be affected by his deviancy and fluctuate ever so slightly. It isn’t uncommon to see Hank or one of the Jericrew comforting him without applying too much stress or too much physical contact after he all but broke Markus’s hand in his while being comforted after one of his first panic attacks without Hank there. Hank was aware of the strength problem but never thought it wasn’t normal by android-standards enough to be mentioned.

• Connor, as a result of his deviancy conflicting with his code, his very being, has been known to suffer panic attacks. The signs of this is usually over usage or a bombardment of data from his surrounding, overheating his sensors and affecting his system depending on the situation and whether Hank, Sumo or later Markus and even Simon, leading to him struggling to comprehend his surrounding and entering a sort of threatened, feral mode as his system views him as being vulnerable and open to attack. His sensitivity , from the senses of touch, sound or sight, are heightened to uncanny levels and he can barely function in these states.

• Connor doesn’t really understand how to stop his emotions from controlling him, while he isn’t reckless or aggressive, he doesn’t know how to control responses that prior his deviancy were held back by his programming. Like how when he first meets Gavin against post-revolution and he just doesn’t even take a second to try to defuse or ignore him, he just instantly shuts down any physical aggression Gavin has against him and just lets loose his irritation. This turns out to be very entertaining and slightly terrifying to those watching as Connor completely destroys any of Gavin’s ego and superiority complex, not wasting any time in showing his determination to kick Gavin’s ass should he try anything.

• Connor is asexual and doesn’t understand the need for sexual intercourse but does enjoy the concept of romance and welcomes physical contact from those he is comfort with. While he doesn’t feel the need for sex or anything along those lines, he isn’t disgusted by it or show any hatred towards those who enjoy it. While watching romantic movies or scenes he prefers to analysis the interactions and body language of the individuals involved, using such signs of attraction and other information when interacting with the females in the office he can’t help but notice behaving strangely, turning to Hank with his findings only for him to glare at the onlookers and groan that he needed a drink.

• Connor also may or may not have also noticed corresponding results to his interactions with a certain robo-jesus as of late. The other Jericrew members found his analysis hilarious.

• Connor hates when people assume he is a ‘dog person’ as he views favouring a certain animal over all others is idiotic and unnecessary and just illogical. He loves all animals of any shape and size (even hairless cats) as he feels comforted by their lack of prejudice towards androids and unconditional love should you treat them well.

• But Sumo is his favourite animal friend... possibly his best friend. He enjoys how he simply wants pets and doesn’t stare at his LED but just slobbers all over him.

• Connor has a phobia of Snowstorms due to his experience with Amanda in the Zen Garden during Markus‘s speech and so, while able keep himself calm while outside in winter, his stress will automatically shot upon even a slight breeze blowing snow flurries onto him. If left to endure such conditions, he more than likely would succumb to a panic attack and be welcomed with a hug from Hank and Sumo before they would all cuddle sit on the couch and drink hot cocoa or hot milk and honey and watching another old movie Hank suggested.

• Connor has extremely fast reflexes upon being touched while in a vulnerable state such as (sleeping??) stasis or simply relaxing with Sumo. This was noted rather quickly when Hank went to wake him up a week or so after the revolution by shaking his shoulder, only to quickly find the android flipping him over the sofa and his programming already predicted over ten ways to subdue and possibly disable his attacker. Connor continued to apologise for a near week afterwards, despite the older lieutenant’s claims that it wasn’t his fault he was built to be quick to action and at least he hadn’t woken up with a knife in near proximity.

• Hank also wanted to ask him about the ‘Amanda’ character he had been muttering rather loudly about while sleeping which caused the lieutenant’s actions, questioning if androids could even have nightmares but deciding to hold off until Connor calmed down.

• Connor and Hank would often have movie nights (especially during not-gonna-sleep-snowstorms) during which they could go through Hank’s collection dating back nearly thirty years. These would definitely include the likes of Back to the future (Hank kept complaining about watching the sequels since Connor kept informing him of the illogical plot pieces in contrast to the basics of time travel), Star Wars, Star Trek, Marvel, Rocky, Disney...etc.

• Soon Connor would also branch out to have movie nights with the Jericrew (Hank definitely encouraged him to educate their ‘uncultured plastic asses’) and these more often or not were action movies (North) or Disney movies (they all love them fight me they all cried for Mufasa and Baymax).

• Connor cried during the scene where Hiro made Baymax attack Calihan (?? That how you spell his name?). The Jericrew thought it was just the scene that upset him, not understanding how it represented one if his greatest if not his greatest fear – being controlled to kill and attacking/near killing his friends in the process.

• That was the first time the Jericrew saw him saw him show such uncontrollable emotions, watching the ex-deviant hunter start to silently cry, attempt to proper himself and shrug his emotions away before completely breaking down into a sobbing mess.

• It slowly dawned on them the actual implications of the scene and how they affected him, with Markus immediately pulling the sobbing detective into a hug.

• The others joined in too. Even North.

• Simon, upon them binging the Captain America movies, would comment that Connor and Bucky were quiet similar in that they were both made into weapons and forced to ignore their emotions and conditioned to obey until a suave guy who was good at shielding himself with a hunk of metal managed to break through and help them see the light.

• Everyone found that comparison heart-warming but hilarious once they realised Markus was blushing for making a comment about shipping Stucky (cue awkward android babies being teased – ruthless killing assassin helped by cutie with weird but wicked fashion-sense and a big heart).

• No one who surprised when, a week later, they found Connor wandering around Jericho saying “I Am Groot.” to all and everyone in the characters voice.

• He gave everyone a near heart attack when he said it out loud at the precinct.
