🧶Synopsis:

To elude the scores of witches and throngs of chasseurs at their heels, Lou and Reid need allies. Strong ones. But protection comes at a price, and the group is forced to embark on separate quests to build their forces.

💭Opinion:

To be honest, I have to say that I enjoyed the first book more than this! There is a lot of action, and a lot of new characters that bring new interest and mystery to the story but almost during the whole book I found myself a bit tired of Lou and Reid and their way to not try to solve their problems. I can say that the last 10 chapters were the most interesting that really make me remember what I liked about this story. And prepare because this book ends on a major cliff-hanger that there is no way you have predicted it!

            cam sighs, throwing his bookbag to the ground and quite literally flopping onto the couch. for a moment, his only response is a prolonged, dramatic groan breathed into the pillow. he sucks. in fact, he genuinely thinks he’d be better at being a phoenix if he were HUMAN. that’s how bad he sucks. he either runs at a simmer, or he goes out in a blaze of glory teetering on the thin hold to his humanity that keeps him as cam sato. sucky 17 year old phoenix. he gets that i’s different and that they’re so much more controlled than he is, but why do bex, layla, and carson just make it look so EASY?                  “ any room with the witches for a new recruit? even without powers i think i might be better at that than a phoenix. ”

  of course bex sees right through this.  carson is convinced she’s fucking psychic as it is,  and that’s on a good day.  they’ve been friends for so long,  they can feel even the slightest shifts between each other in the same way a seismometer could detect an earthquake half - way across the world.   (  sometimes she’ll feel it at school.  at this point,  carson just thinks it’s psycho - somatic ;  that her love for her best friend runs so deep that she thinks she can feel the things bex does.  or maybe she’s just highly empathetic ---- after all,  bex is her best friend,  maybe she just . . .  )

kayden has broken many hearts stringing many boys and girls along over the years. his relationships are usually short flings that move along quickly and then end with him running away to avoid any companionship and the feeling of love. kayden’s never allowed himself to love anyone so no one has had to the opportunity to break his heart.

          breathe  in ,  breathe  out .     breathe  in ,  breathe  out .     if  you’d  told  lilith  schechner  even  a  month  before  that  she’d  be  here ,  in  this  ward ,  about  to  push  open  a  door  and  introduce  herself  to  her  birth  mother ,  she  would  never  have  believed  you .     she  would  have  been  insulted  at  the  mere  insinuation  that  helen  wasn’t  her  birth  mother .     but  she’s  here  now ,  and  she  knows  better ,  and  that  somehow  still  doesn’t  take  away  the  edge  of  a  panic  attack  that  clouds  the  edges  of  her  mind .     this  is  an  important  thing  to  do ,  she  reminds  herself .     she  has  so  many  questions ,  and  even  if  her  mother  --  even  if  nancy  --  doesn’t  want  to  answer ,  just  seeing  her  should  do  something ,  right ?     to  meet  the  person  that  made  her ,  that  created  a  little  witch ,  that  had  something  to  do  with  things  that  lily  and  her  friends  had  run  into  but  didn’t  quite  understand  the  origin  of .           shaking  fingers  push  the  door  open ,   hover  in  the  entrance ,  even  though  she  knows  that ,  now  that  she’s  here ,  there’s  no  going  back .     she  doesn’t  want  to  go  back .     or  does  she ?     she  hears  the  first  words  that  she’s  ever  heard  out  of  her  birth  mother’s  --  her  birth  mother’s !  --  voice . . . can  i  help  you ?     can  she ?     her  breath  catches  in  her  throat ,  lips  attempting  to  form  words ,  failing  a  few  times  before  she  manages  it .           “ m - my  name  is  lily .     and  --  ”          a  pause ,  half  of  a  swallowed  sob ,  a  deep  breath ,  a  whispered  voice  because  she  can  hardly  manage  anything  louder ,  stronger ,          “  --  i’m  your  daughter .  ”
