Just heard a weird cracking noise from somewhere in my room while I was lying in bed, so I of course got up to investigate.
The absolute awe I felt when I realised that the sound I heard was my pet huntsman spider Lanius biting into a big feeder roach that had been eluding her for the past few days! It’s so amazing to me, I never thought I’d have a pet spider so large that I could hear her feasting from metres away!

may have covered this but what do the naval forces look like in Redux? I've always thought that kingdoms should at least have one large port city if only by virtue of the fact that the GRIMM should make resource/tech sharing necessary to survive, to an extent. correspondingly, I think they'd have quite large navy's, possibly even selling escort services to less developed nations in the case of Atlas?
I kind of did/kind of didn’t cover naval forces when I talked about the world military here. You’re right; since virtually all of the kingdoms have cities near water, it would make sense for them to have navies (or at least something analogous). Not just for handling aquatic Grimm, but for other important functions: enforcing water traffic laws, search and rescue, dealing with pirates, helping owners recover flotsam/lagan (goods lost in wrecks), enforcing environmental laws, and so on. In a world where access to water is considered a must—not just for trade and travel, but for natural geographic defenses—it’s mind boggling that the actual show never once touches upon it. (Not unless you’re counting Argus’ hard-light barrier and piloted mechs, which seem to be the exception, not the rule.)
However, since no country in the Redux has its own standing army (and by extension, navy), maritime forces are handled a little differently. Technically, there is one official navy in the Redux, which is considered a division of the world military (the equivalent of the Atlesian military from the canon). It very seldom gets mobilized unless the World Council unanimously votes to do so (the circumstances under which that happens being extremely rare).
The world military (naval division included) is reserved for two things:
Intervening in conflicts too large or aggressive to be handled domestically;
Eliminating sudden, massive surges in Grimm that can’t be subdued by Huntsmen.
Outside of those scenarios, coasts and waterways are primarily overseen by either local law enforcement or Huntsmen. As for which group gets involved (and when), it’s a matter of bureaucracy.
The general rule is that all bodies of water within the borders of a city are under the jurisdiction of law enforcement. Anything outside of cities is considered the responsibility of Huntsmen stationed at outposts. There is some overlap between the two, which also happens to be a point of contention for both groups (which I’ll get into another time).
The cities with coastal/river access (and therefore water police) are as follows:
VALE: City of Vale, Patch, the Gossic cities (Eldegoss, Sindegoss, Tordegoss), Avonford, Vellichor, Petrichor
MISTRAL: Talus, Sirocco, Akylon, Etesia, Akepont, Higanbana, Shion, Rabenda, Skiron, Argus
ATLAS: Evadne, Chequer
VACUO: The Eyrie, Seaglass, Rockport, Kenyte, Feldspar, the Yrrose cities
MENAGERIE: Dun Obel, Dun Ashai, Dun Paror, Rorqual, Thalassion
Of the 17 outposts, the following 8 are equipped for handling water:
Belpont Station, Düahþ, Fort Iosefka, Fort Kittiwake, Keep of the Broken Spear, Keep of the Tattered Cloak, Northmarch, Oxebay Island
TL;DR - Responsibilities traditionally held by naval forces are instead divvied up between Huntsmen and law enforcement, depending on the location. Remnant's only "true" navy is a division of the world military, and it almost never gets deployed.

What can you tell us about the legality of Huntsmen and the laws applied to them? (You mentioned this before and I'm sure you're planning to go into it in more depth at some point, but a sneak peek, perhaps?)
The legal system (where it pertains to Huntsmen) will eventually be getting its own post, once I finish hammering out all the fine details. But I can definitely give you a condensed version of it in the meanwhile!
Huntsmen as an occupation are held to extremely high standards, due to the nature of their work. Grimm require deadly force in order to be neutralized, but training a Huntsman to that level of combat proficiency comes with the understanding that they’re also dangerous. It’s like if someone went to college and got a bachelor’s degree in martial arts. A Huntsman with a Class-C license will, at minimum, know how to use their Aura offensively and defensively, and know how to wield both short- and long-range weapons. And that’s not even getting into the number of Huntsmen that have unlocked Semblances, which further exaggerates that disparity between them and the general public.
While it’s entirely possible for a non-Huntsman to independently acquire this level of combat skill, it’s uncommon. Training takes a lot of time and commitment.
Although a Huntsman is first and foremost a professional monster-killer, there’s no getting around the fact they can pose a risk to other people. The infamous fight between Qrow and Winter is one of my go-to examples because it epitomizes the collateral damage that Huntsmen are capable of.
To fix that, Huntsmen are beholden to a number of regulations and laws. Some regulations are applied to all Huntsmen, whereas others are dependent on a Huntsman’s license type.
A Class-C license is given to Huntsmen that graduate from one of the four academies, and have completed four years of schooling (or the equivalent of). This license gives them permission to accept work that exclusively pertains to Grimm—capturing them, killing them, protecting city perimeters and transit from them, and so on. Class-C Huntsmen are not allowed to attack people. They are only allowed to use self-defense when assaulted, using only the minimal amount of force to repel their assailant. They do not have the legal right to capture, detain, or arrest people.
A Class-B license is given to Huntsmen that complete six years of schooling (or the equivalent of) at one of the four academies. This type of license allows them to pursue Grimm-related work, and to deal with potential human targets. Like I said before—it’s uncommon for non-Huntsmen to be equally skilled fighters, but it’s not unheard of. In instances where a person becomes a significant danger to the public (like Tyrian, or Roman, or Raven), a Class-B Huntsman can be brought in to subdue and apprehend them. Certain types of work (outpost positions, bounties) require a Class-B license in order to undertake them.
A Class-A license requires seven years of schooling (or the equivalent of) at one of the four academies. In addition to all of the previous rights they have under the other license types, a Class-A Huntsman is allowed to teach at either a prep school or an academy.
Very seldomly, a headmaster may issue a license to a Huntsman with “No Restrictions,” granting them certain privileges above their current license type. Instances like these are rare and require unanimous approval from all four headmasters. (One of the last Huntsmen to be granted “No Restrictions” was Summer Rose, who had a Class-C license.)
Regulations that apply to all Huntsmen, that aren’t affected by license type, include the following:
A Huntsman must register their active equipment (armor, weapons, ammunition, familiars) with their alma mater.
Familiars in use by a Huntsman must be evaluated annually.
Huntsmen are only allowed to kill in self-defense, as a last resort. Any deaths attributed to a Huntsman must be reported to the academy of the presiding region, at which time an investigation will be conducted.
Huntsmen are not allowed to instigate fights between each other in public spaces.
Huntsmen employed for government-authorized jobs (such as working at an outpost, or protecting public transit) are not allowed to bribe or extort people for their services.
Huntsmen are not allowed to operate within the autonomous nation of Menagerie.
All Huntsmen are required to report sightings of Grimm that are a Category 3 or higher, in addition to all plague-type Grimm.
Huntsmen are not allowed to provoke or harm Grimm that have been designated by the government as “exempted under research purposes” or “habituated.” These Grimm can only be fought if they pose an immediate danger to people or settlements.
All Huntsmen (within range) are legally required to respond to evacuation orders and emergency broadcasts issued by a headmaster.
Huntsmen are exempt from all forms of inter-kingdom conflict, and cannot be drafted.
There’s more to it than that, but those are the general beats.

Just re-watched Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes and Huntsmen, Part One, and this part
Tumblr media
At this point, WBY and Diana rejoined RNR and the League. Did Bruce seriously wait until the last moment just to reveal himself dramatically like that? Yes, yes he did. He's such a drama queen.
Also, Jaune's reaction

Look how the stars haven't replaced his eyes, but are inside them.
