its why i have beef with louis’ smiley, its just not distinctive enough man!!! but again, they did post about leaving clues everywhere and to me the “just like you” in their ig caption and the first person on the sziget wishlist being louis in their video is telling enough unless they chose me specifically to be mentally tortured by these tactics

A really fun kind-of plot with Aoki would be a “they’re neighbors/in the same apartment complex and see each other fairly often, except it’s becoming more and more obvious that something is exceptionally wrong here.” Because, well, try as he might to blend in, the necessary habits he has for work make him stick out like a sore thumb. And there’s the fact that he’s a monster, not a human (which could play far less of a role if the given setting they’re in is more centered on the unnatural, but even then he tries to keep as much of his identity under wraps as I can, particularly the specifics of what he is). 

I just adore the idea of him getting into a bit of a routine with a neighbor, without really realizing it-- little things like seeing each other about the same time every other night while they smoke or just step out for fresh air, they come home/leave at similar times, frequent the same nearby shops, etc. And that’s what makes the cracks in the facade start appearing. The mundanity should help his cover, but it’s what would eventually start to peel it off little at a time. As much as he’d like it to be, the little nothings in every day life are not normal for him; try as he might to make it be so, he’s not very practiced at it. A number of things that could go wrong will go wrong. And it really all depends how the relationship develops as to how that will go. 

And also-- bonus points if the other party in question has a few skeletons in the closet or something more going on that they’re also hiding. Or bonus points if they’re just a fella! Just a person living their life!

Rain's facial features and overall ethnic influence has yet to be discovered nor confirmed. With Kitana embracing Eastern Asian features, it would be a great opportunity to have Rain embrace North African and West/South Asian features. Personally, alongside Rain's Bohemian and Arabic influenced design - this would be a great fit for the Son of Argus.

First of all, can we please acknowledge how beautiful this woman is? I've never come across someone with such distinct and ethereal facial features. Devon Aoki sticks with the East Asian features to contrast with Kitana, but with a more of a sinister tone to add to her mystique and beauty. I believe Devon Aoki would be the perfect Mileena. The Tarkatan teeth can easily be altered from her MKX design to fit her face, and still showcase her beauty.

Although he's been cast as Sub-Zero in the new Mortal Kombat movie (great choice), a lot of his features and his presence feels right for Smoke. His look contrasts well with MK11 Sub-Zero (Tony Chung) and it gives him a unique sense of character that we got to see in MK9's story mode.

There's something sinister, captivating and mysterious about Buscemi. His eyes, his presence - all of it feels like an incredible opportunity to portray a character like Havik. Personally, I would love for them to overhaul Havik's design to still maintain the features of Buscemi - but not take away from what we associate with the character.

Reggie Yates as Kai

I always wished that MK capitalised on their only Black Martial Artist in the series, Kai's backstory being linked with Liu and Lao was something worth exploring. His overall face model didn't really feel as authentic mainly just because of the previous graphics engines. I believe Reggie Yates would be a great breakthrough for Kai's character and capturing his overall look with his cool costume design.

Hey question and it's a little time sensitive since I'm trying to buy these before a bday coupon runs out - does anyone have any familiarity with these pmmm books?

They look? Like they're meant to be art books, the one on the left for sure, but I kinda like to see sample images of even like. One pagespread of the book to get a sense of how the interior is laid out and for some reason I can't find ANYTHING. It's either the cover or unrelated search results like fanart or Maybe illustrations posted on Aoki-sensei's twitter - which may or may not be in the books.

I don't have a lot of money and have other wishlist items so I don't want to make a blind purchase and regret it bc the images are small or it's not what I thought it was at all or something.

BTS Talk New Album 'Map Of The Soul: 7': "The Genre Is BTS"

The international pop stars discuss the creative process behind their latest release and shine a light on the growing creative community in South Korea

International pop stars BTS are used to shattering world records. They've done it time and time again.

In 2018, the septet became the first Korean group to receive gold status from the Recording Industry Association Of America (RIAA), for the Steve Aoki remix of their 2017 track, "Mic Drop," featuring rapper Desiigner. The song, now certified platinum, became the act's first hit in the U.S., setting off an ongoing streak of Stateside hits and world records for the South Korean boyband. That same year, they became the first Korean act to top the Billboard 200 chart with Love Yourself: Tear. 

BTS are now back to dominate the charts once again with Map Of The Soul: 7. Released just yesterday (Feb. 21), the new album is already the best-selling album of the year worldwide. Another day, another world record in the life of BTS.

Map Of The Soul: 7, BTS' fourth studio full-length to date, is the next installment in the band's ongoing Map Of The Soul series. It picks up from the 2019 chart-topping Map Of The Soul: Persona EP. In addition to featuring songs from the latter, Map Of The Soul: 7 expands on some of the themes and topics from the overall series, including the concepts of persona, shadow and ego. 

"[Map Of The Soul: 7 is a] continuation from the album before, called Persona," BTS member RM tells the Recording Academy. "And this time, we put the other two themes, shadow and ego, and we put it together into [this] album, called 7. The difference is [the] persona, which is like the social mask before the good things that we have, [like] the spotlight. This time [on 7] we talked about the real shades and shadows that we had inside, and also the big manifesto that we admitted: all the shadows as our destinies and we're gonna carry on." 

Sonically, Map Of The Soul: 7 touches on many genres and sounds. Album opener "Intro: Persona" sees RM rapping over a guitar-laced, bossy hip-hop beat, while "Interlude: Shadow," a solo track from BTS member SUGA, is an atmospheric pop ballad that converts into an industrial rap monster. 

For the group, Map Of The Soul: 7 breaks free from genre confines once and for all.

"I think it's less and less meaningful to divide music into genres now," SUGA says. 

"The genre is BTS. That's the genre we want to make and the music that we want. New genre," the group's Jung Kook, V and j-hope add. 

On the day of the album's release, the Recording Academy caught up with BTS—all seven members!—at the Park Hyatt New York in Midtown Manhattan to discuss the creative process behind and deeper meanings within Map Of The Soul: 7, the group's all-star collaborator wishlist and the growing creative footprint of their South Korean homeland.

This interview was edited for clarity and brevity. An interpreter translated all answers from BTS, except for RM.

Can you talk about the creative process behind Map Of The Soul: 7? How does it differ from the rest of your albums?

SUGA: It took us a little longer, and this is our first full album in quite a while. But making an album isn't just making the music. We have the songs, there's the choreography and a lot of other elements that come with it, so it took some time. But once we got started, it really started rolling along and it was really fun. 

The album features individual tracks that highlight traits from each of the seven BTS members. How does the album reflect each individual member? And how does it reflect BTS as a whole? 

Jung Kook: I think individually, it really contained what we wanted to put into the music and the ideas that we have, and this is what we put in.

RM: As a group, it's like a big statement or like a manifesto that we finally admitted our shadows and egos at the same time as part of our destiny. So it's like, you're going to carry on and you can bring the pain and we'll carry on.

Map Of The Soul: 7 reflects on the seven years since BTS debuted in 2013. What has been the biggest life and career lessons you've learned so far?

Jin: Thanks to these guys, I think I learned more about music. I didn't really know a lot about music when I started out, but now I've learned how to write music or make melodies. That's what I really got out of the past seven years, thanks to these guys. 

Jung Kook: I think I really learned how precious music is, how important it is to me. Recording the music for this album, working on the music—through this whole process, [it was] really fun and meaningful because, again, I kind of learned and figured out how precious music is and how important it is to me.

The new album features collaborations with Halsey and Sia. Who are some other artists you want to collaborate with?

All (shouting out loud): Ariana [Grande], Travis [Scott], Taylor [Swift], Beyoncé, Billie Eilish, Post Malone, "Big" Nas, Lil Nas X!

RM: Call our label, please.

Your music as BTS has touched on many genres, from rap to pop. Are there any other genres or sounds you're interested in exploring in the future?

SUGA: I think it's less and less meaningful to divide music into genres now. 

Jung Kook, V, J-Hope: The genre is BTS. That's the genre we want to make and the music that we want. New genre.

Map Of The Soul: 7 is a continuation of Map Of The Soul: Persona. How are the two projects related? And how are they different?

RM: Like you said, [Map Of The Soul: 7 is a] continuation from the album before, called Persona. And this time, we put the other two themes, shadow and ego, and we put it together into [this] album, called 7. The difference is [the] persona, which is like the social mask before the good things that we have, [like] the spotlight. This time [on 7] we talked about the real shades and shadows that we had inside, and also the big manifesto that we admitted: all the shadows as our destinies and we're gonna carry on. We put all three things [together] and made a series.

The K-pop genre has exploded across the world over the past few years. Where does K-pop go from here? What would you like to see happen for your community?

SUGA: As you said, the stature of K-pop has really grown all over the world. But rather than be recognized as the rise of a genre or the rise of K-pop as a genre, I would like more talented Korean artists to be better known around the world, because I think there are a lot of talented Korean artists, and it's really amazing to have this small country and so many talented people coming out of it. That's what I'd like to see.

Speaking of talented Korean artists, how did you feel when Parasite won so many awards at the Oscars this year?

RM: We felt like we won the GRAMMYs. Parasite is a great movie; I also watched it in the cinema. And like Suga said, we just know that there are a lot of talented people in Korea, also including outside K-pop or K-movie or anywhere else. Parasite's honor is our honor, too. We're happy.

WIP ask: 2.43 chika alien, odaoki 結婚 and odaoki yeonga? (all or one of them)

chika - alien

This one, I don't have a concrete idea for, but I was thinking about Alien by Thriving Ivory and Wishlist by Pearl Jam (particularly the line "I wish I was an alien, at home behind the sun") and how they're ND/autistic moods (Alien, in fact, was written as an exchange between the songwriter and his little brother, who's autistic and was fixing to head off to college at the time), and I wanted to write something inspired by them for Chika a.k.a. my favorite autistic.

Currently, I'm thinking of naming it Haven't the Light to Hold to See after a line from Alien, and beginning it with the Wishlist line I quoted above and ending it with the Alien line Oh alien, you'll be just fine, fine, yeah. It's either gonna be yunichika or aochika, but since I have no actual idea what it's gonna be about, I dunno which one I'm leaning more toward!! (Although maybe slightly more toward aochika just because Aoki and also I haven't finished anything for them yet…)

odaoki 結婚

This one's based off of the story of the same name from Lingo Mastery's Japanese Short Stories for Beginners. It's a future/different-first-meeting AU wherein Oda and Aoki meet sitting next to each other on a plane to Hokkaidō, Oda to attend his mother's wedding (she'd moved to Hokkaidō years ago after her divorce from his father, which is where she'd met her fiancé), and Aoki returning to visit his parents like he's been meaning to but hadn't been able to get off work for (they'd lived in Fukui up until he was in middle school, when one of his parents got a job transfer to Hokkaidō). They hit it off and decide to meet up for a date if they both have a time they're free while they're there!

Also the good thing about this AU is they don’t have to hide their interest in one another. Oda already knows he likes men, and Aoki doesn’t relegate himself to loving him from afar. Of course, we also don’t get that devotion between them, but that comes later. Aoki’s openly disbelieving when he learns that Oda’s single, and Oda’s flattered, yup, definitely no hiding their interest lol

odaoki yeonga

This started because I was listening to 연가 (yeonga | love song) by 신용우 (Shin Yongwoo), the VA of Han Jumin from Mystic Messenger, and I thought his voice sounded similar enough to Umeyan's that I could almost imagine that it was Aoki singing.

Uh so I don't even know if the premise makes sense since I was just kinda writing whatever, but it's set during college and Oda's visiting Aoki but Aoki's unexpectedly busy with an assignment (this had been a free day when they'd planned to meet), so Oda's waiting while Aoki's finishing up, and Aoki sings part of this song under his breath without realizing it until Oda goes, "Is that… Korean?" This is also the genesis of my headcanon that Aoki's multilingual; he takes Korean in college (and has been listening to Korean-language music to help familiarize himself with the language) and continues learning English on his own. Oda calls him "an overachiever, as always," and the subject kinda turns toward future plans and also how Oda still doesn't know what he's gonna do after volleyball, while he feels like Aoki has everything together.

And then it gets even more self-indulgent (I was also thinking about how Oda's dream of becoming a super ace wasn't actually as unfounded as Aoki thought it was because Subaru basically already was everything Oda wanted to be in middle school and was only a little taller than him back then, and Aoki never did learn about that, did he?) and gets into Oda looking up to Subaru in middle school and how Subaru was like Haikyuu's Hinata then because I was thinking about that, too. Shorter than almost everyone and having to jump higher than everyone else? How it's less the height of the jumps itself and more how fast he can get there? (Oda can jump that high too, and yet it's not as impressive and he has less of a fighting chance because he's, well, calling him "average" doesn't exactly feel right, but in terms of natural ability, he is, and hard work can only get you so far, especially when your opponent has both hard work and a greater natural ability.) Ayup, there are definitely parallels between those two, too.

Anyway so it also ended up with Oda having had a crush on Subaru back then, which, I think, is probably the only way I'll ever be able to write mimuoda: one or the other had an admiration-based crush that never went anywhere. (I added them to the list of possible ships for the 22 kiss prompts since I don't mind them, but I just?? can't imagine it?? And I already have something for "a kiss that was never given," so I can't do that. But I digress.) So then we get this exchange:

“You almost sound like you had a crush on him.” Shin shrugs, not meeting his eyes, a light pink starting to color his cheeks. "Well, it was a long time ago." Huh. It was half supposed to be a joke, but he hadn't expected it to be true. Does that mean— No, that’s the last thing he should be thinking about, he tells himself and quashes down that small flame of hope before it can flare up. Shin huffs out a laugh, just a little too breathy to be genuine.  “It was a joke,” he says, an edge of stiffness to his smile, the line of his shoulders.  “C’mon, don’t tell me you’re gonna think of me any different now.” And, shit, this isn’t what he wanted.  Misao hesitates for just a moment before reaching across the empty space between them to rest his hand on Shin’s knee.  “It’d be fine even if it wasn’t,” he says.

And that's really all I have for it. It's preslash, and I'm hoping it'll have the feeling that it's moving in that direction of them getting together somewhere down the line. A lot of times I don't much care if it feels like it's going anywhere or not, but this one I definitely do.

BTS Spill Details on Their Upcoming World Tour -- Plus, Will They Ever Record Music in English?

BTS has definitely gone global.

The Korean boy band was greeted by hundreds of fans at LAX airport on Tuesday as they landed in the U.S. ahead of their performance at Sunday's2017 American Music Awards -- and has plans to take their show on the road to meet even more of America's ARMY.

"Our fans, ARMY, I love you," J-Hope told ET's Denny Directo during an interview at their AMAs rehearsal on Wednesday, as the band opened up about their upcoming 2018 world tour.

"We will visit more cities, and I think we will definitely be like, adding more stages. I don't know the particular time of when we will be coming back [to the U.S.], but it will definitely be doper and bigger," RM revealed. "It's gonna really happen."

"Yeah, of course," J-Hope added of whether he, RM, Jin, Jimin, Jungkook, V and Suga plan to perform tour dates in Europe and Brazil as well.

"We just finished this tour named Wings, and I think it is going to be like, a new series for the tour, so of course including United States, it'll happen, I think. I hope it will happen everywhere, every continent," RM shared. "We want it too."

Recording music in English might be less of a priority for the group, through they're definitely breaking into the U.S. market.

"We're releasing our new song, 'MIC Drop' remix with Steve Aoki and Desiigner next week. It's going to be like, an English version of something, so I think we will try some versions like that later," RM explained, as the band dished on who they hope to collaborate next.

J-Hope and the guys pressured Jungkook to reveal his love for Justin Bieber, which he confirmed. "Yeah."

V, meanwhile, revealed his desire to work with Daniel Caesar. "I love him," he raved.

As for RM's wishlist? That would be "Sabrina Claudio, Drake and, of course, Migos."

For now, however, the group is focused on their upcoming AMAs performance -- which RM teased they couldn't be more "ready" for.

"We're going to do it like we always have been," he declared.
