Happy Sunday!!

I just posted my fic Longer Than Most, in celebration of one year writing for RWRB! So fun :)))

In celebration, here's a snippet from Chapter One:

Still, Nora must catch on to his glum attitude when he exits his room, because instead of saying hello or asking how his night went like a normal person, she says, “You look way too much like Grumpy Cat right now for someone who had sex for the first time in at least a month.” “Fuck you,” Alex says, making a beeline for the coffeemaker. “First of all, it has not been a month. You’re forgetting Blowjob Benji after that awful stand-up show you dragged me to. And second of all, how do you know I had sex? Especially since you had all my condoms.” He turns around as the coffee starts brewing. Nora’s grinning at him knowingly, which is pretty much par for the course. “Well, that doesn’t hurt the fact-finding mission,” Nora says. “But, also, I passed a blond man on the stairs this morning, clearly in the midst of a walk of shame. Unless the lesbians across from us have suddenly had a change of heart, I’m thinking he was coming from here. Which, like, go you. That guy was hot.”

WIP Wednesday

Happy new year! I finally have a WIP I can share with everyone. I previously had been working on my fic for @thebrownstone’s Wrap It Up exchange but that one’s a secret (shhh). I’ve had the last week and a half off from work, and I think missing my work babies has resulted in me spending a lot of time thinking about Henry and Alex as parents and just the two of them with babies in general. This has hilariously turned into me hyperfixating on a seahorse dad trans!Alex fic. 

So, without further ado, here is a snippet of Alex and Henry after Alex’s first prenatal appointment.

An hour later, Henry sat at the kitchen island looking over the pictures the technician had printed out for them while Alex cut up an apple.

“How’re you feeling after the appointment?” he asked as Alex put the apple in a bowl and sat next to him.

“Okay. Early ultrasounds are still hard. Like, I’m really excited and it’s a relief to know they’re doing well, but���yeah…I’m gonna call my therapist and change my appointment to be sooner.” Alex fidgeted with one of the slices before taking a bite.

“Anything I can do in the meantime?” 

Alex shrugged, swatting Henry’s hand away when he tried to steal an apple slice. 

“Do you want me to put the pictures away for now?” Henry asked as he picked up the strip.

“No, lemme see frijolito.” Alex leaned over to look closer at the pictures.

“Frijolito?” 

Alex gave him an exasperated look. “You know enough Spanish to figure that one out. And you called them a little bean first.”

“I do and I did. I’m just processing you nicknaming our child that.”

“You have any better ideas?” He looked at Henry expectantly.

“I suppose not.”

“Thought so.” Alex grinned, holding out an apple slice and laughing when Henry just leaned forward to bite it.

WIP Wednesday

Today is a very special WIP Wednesday, because as some of you may know, as of a few hours ago...

I wrote 50,144 words in January.

I realized a few days ago that I was at 44K, and I'm not sure I'll ever have the downtime to do this again, so I figured I had to seize the moment. I'm super excited, so as a treat, I'm going to share not one, but two snippets from Seahorse Dad Henry (reminder that means trans & pregnant) with y'all. One above the cut, one under, for NSFW reasons.

First:

After spending about five minutes with Alex and Nora, he thinks he gets it. He can see how the two of them—sharp tongues, biting wip, a competitive give-and-take that’s endless and enigmatic and alluring and terrifying all at the same time—would have explosive sex. He can also understand how that would translate better into a lifelong friendship rather than a more permanent partnership, how they’re not quite complementary when it comes to matters of the heart. Henry observes as Nora eggs Alex on until he’s attempting to disassemble his bed in less than ten minutes, he watches as she takes him down a peg when he comes in preening about being voted “Hottest Intern” by some of the junior associates. He also catches the moment when she’s too buried in her own project to notice that Alex comes home, looking grim in his white dress shirt covered in ink, notices when her joke about Alex being oblivious makes him grit his teeth. Henry remembers each one, tattooing them into the part of his mind that’s quickly become dedicated to the project of Caring for Alex; no jabs at attentiveness fits right alongside cinnamon in his coffee and the closest store that sells Tide To Go Pens.

Second (NSFW):

Henry feels a surge of pride as Alex comes less than a minute later, not even minding that Alex gets his come all over Henry’s stomach. It doesn’t hurt that Alex’s eyes go wide at the sight; there’s more than lust there, though. Something like amazement, maybe. Alex reaches out a hand, stopping an inch away from Henry’s stomach.  “Can I?” he asks, turning his head to look Henry in the eye. “I know you don’t really…” They’ve talked about the whole pregnancy belly, how amazing Alex thinks it is, how muddled Henry’s own feelings are towards his own body right now. But in this moment, the water’s clear. “Yes,” Henry nods. Alex dips his fingers into his come, smearing it across the curve of Henry’s stomach like a child discovering fingerpaint for the first time. Awe and delight dance across his face, along with other emotions that Henry’s still learning to identify, passing by too quickly for him to put a name on them. Out of the corner of his eye, he sees Alex’s cock twitch. So, arousal, too, maybe. They stay like that, peaceful, as the come starts to dry in the paths that Alex’s fingers traveled across his skin, the history of Alex’s touch on Henry’s body visible for them both. While it’s objectively a bit disgusting, Henry’s not sure he’s ever felt so beautiful. For once, his eyes can’t leave the curve of his stomach.

WIP Wednesday

Helloooo happy late WIP Wednesday!! I drove halfway across my state and back home today (a total of six hours in the car), so I'm a bit tired which is why I'm just now getting to this and also haven't looked at any posts yet.

Seahorse Dad Henry, now named "Longer Than Most" is *almost* finished, and standing at 24K, which means I've decided to split it into chapters. Good news: Chapter One posts Sunday, my one year anniversary of writing for RWRB (and fanfic in any formal capacity).

So, here's a snippet from Chapter Two:

“Oh,” Alex says. “Sick.” Henry can’t help but grin. He can’t believe he’s so bloody gone on a man who says sick and dude, who he’s slept with all of one time and proceeded to knock him up. Henry’s a cliche, honestly. “It is, indeed, sick, as you say.” Alex rolls his eyes, but his cheeks darken a shade, giving him away a bit. “Listen, the closest I get to poetry is your fucking face. Excuse me if my vocabulary doesn’t quite compare to yours.”

Several Sentence Sunday

I am absolutely cheating with the number of sentences today, and I won't apologize for it. I wrote 2K+ words last night for seahorse dad henry (reminder that means pregnant trans henry)((I did this in addition to finishing a 17K+ fic)), so I wanted to share this whole snippet to celebrate.

“I thought you’d take tea,” Alex jokes. “I do,” Henry says, holding his mug up in faux cheers. “I am. The coffee’s just for you.” Alex smiles at him. “That’s so nice of you. I don’t know why I’m fucking surprised, though, you always seemed nice. Until I thought you ditched me without a word in the dead of night.” Henry bites his lip. “I’m sorry about that, I—” Alex cuts him off. “No, don’t apologize. Pez explained. You were, like, saving puppies from burning buildings or curing cancer or something.” “Working at the LGBTQ Youth Shelter that Pez’s family owns.” “Right,” Alex nods. “Same difference.” Henry can feel a blush spread across his cheeks. “Well, it pays the bills, unlike writing sad, gay poetry.” Alex leans his head back and laughs, and Henry can’t help but join in. God, he hopes that he isn’t about to ruin everything.

Several Sentence Sunday

Hi! If Wednesday was some of my recent favorite dialogue, this is some of my recent favorite prose. This week I'm a couple sentences past seven. Hopefully, you'll forgive me.

From Seahorse Dad Henry, which I'm working on furiously to publish some time in early-mid February:

Between the comforting weight of Henry’s fingertips against his and his general desire to grant Henry's requests, Alex feels comfortable diving right in, for once. He can rant about gerrymandering and the CIA’s involvement in Latin America and people who pronounce the ‘j’ in ‘jalapeño’ for as long as he wants, essentially filibustering any conversation from detouring too close to the root of him. But when Henry’s deep blue eyes fix on him, Alex can’t be anything but honest.  So, he talks about riding bikes along the lakes and eating barbecue, watching West Wing when he was still way too young to do so, probably. He explains his mom chasing her congressional dreams, spending hours on failed campaigns until finally, she succeeded. He adds how his dad did his best, for a while, but his parents’ inability to each chase their dreams while raising a family ultimately tore them apart. He describes how the ugliness turned into an exhaustion, which ultimately turned into surrender. Silence. A chasm, stretching from Austin to LA.

WIP Wednesday

I've gotten really behind on these because, frankly, I haven't had the energy to cultivate a post between writing and ask games and winter weather. But I've been doing a ton of writing across all of my WIPs, so I figure I should share some of that.

Enjoy this never-before-seen snippet from Seahorse Dad Henry (if you don't know, that's the name for a pregnant trans man)—recently had a break through in this one because I decided to make it dual POV:

“Right,” Pez says, from the other end of the line. “Well, it seems there’s been a bit of a misunderstanding.” “Yeah,” Alex says. “I thought he didn’t want to see me again.” “Quite the opposite,” Pez muses, before his voice grows serious. “Unfortunately, my liege, this isn’t actually a simple housecall to hunt you down and castrate you, as much fun as that sounded a mere half-hour ago.” “That’s a relief,” Alex says, voice dry. “What’s up?” “Well, frankly, quite a bit. But, it’s also not my place to tell you,” Pez answers cryptically. “It also wasn’t totally my place to hunt you down, but I used my best friend rights and overstepped. And, if I may, I think I was quite right to do so in this case.” “Sure,” Alex says, mostly for something to say. Pez sighs. “You need to talk to Haz. I’m going to send you his number, now, alright? You better fucking use it this time around, otherwise that threat from earlier’s going to be a promise.” “Jesus fuck. Alright. I’ll do it,” Alex replies defensively. Thinks for a moment, going over the conversation in his mind before he decides to make a joke.  “I won’t even make you beg,” he adds with a grin. Pez lets out a surprised, delighted laugh. “Oh, Alexander, babes. Between the two of us, you would absolutely be the one getting on your knees for me. Fortunately for you, though, your sister’s much more to my taste.”

Seahorse dad fic: this is going to be an AU, where Henry (who is trans in this) and Alex meet at a club and go home together and an accidental pregnancy comes out of it.

Some fun details:

Pez helps Henry hunt Alex down to tell him

We get a lot of protective/freaked out Dad-to-be Alex

Lots of Thoughts on body and dysphoria, but while it'll be really hard for Henry, who has so hard to get to a place where he loves his body, it's really going to be joy-centered

I shared more for @gayrootvegetable's ask, but here's another snippet of them talking before sex. We love communication!

“I mean, I’m bi, so I’m not a complete novice to sex that doesn’t involve two dicks. Or, like, traditional ones at least,” he says, pausing to correct himself before he finally makes eye contact with Henry again. “Look, I feel like I’m completely fucking this up, but my point is that I haven’t been with a trans person before, so please let me know what, like, works for you. Because I don’t want to keep putting my foot in my mouth here. You’re super fucking hot, and it would really suck if I fucked this up.”

Also, for the birthday fic a fun tidbit I can tell you: I think I've officially decided to chapter it instead of long one-shotting it :) It's projected at about 16,000 words right now if I keep up the same pace!

so i have no snippets for the first one as of rn, but you need to know it's inspired entirely by you. I don't know if they'll both be ftm or one of them will be mtf, truly it's early stages. I am thinking long one shot though and it just being *healing as hell* while they support each other through transition.

i wrote 500 more words for seahorse dads today, it's feeling a bit rough but they had SUCH a great conversation about sex and i am happy!! @anincompletelist also asked about this fic so I will drop more snippet there :)

“Want to get out of here?” Yes. Yes. Henry absolutely does. He wants to take Alex by the hand and drag him to whoever’s apartment is closest. Unfortunately, Henry’s learned that before he can carelessly run away with a man he’s met at a club, he needs to be up front with them. “Yes,” Henry shouts over the music, momentarily revelling in Alex’s answering grin before he moves his own lips over to speak against the other man’s ear. “You need to know now, though—I’m trans. If that changes anything.” He doesn’t bother adding, “I hope it doesn’t,” leaving it hanging in the centimeter of space separating them. Alex doesn’t leave him waiting for long, twisting his head to look straight at Henry. “It doesn’t—but thanks for telling me.”

If you had to chose between Dads fic and Seahorse dad fic, which of your children would you choose? Jeje

this is so mean.

seahorse dad fic is special bc it’s the first time I’ve written a trans character outside of 100 words. but, it’s shorter and was generally born out of spite.

dads fic (shorthand for daddy issues/honey you’re familiar, lol) was literally my first brainchild after joining fandom spaces and i’ve been working on it for so long. it’s 35K and about a third done. this is also terrifying though, because I’ve put a lot into it and I’m like what if no one reads this?? so tbh it’s a source of a lot of anxiety as much as it’s my child.

if it’s a fire, i guess im saving dads, even if that fic will kill me.

I am once again coming to you at the end of WIP Wednesday, even for my timezone. The ADHD ADHD-ed today in a big way, but hopefully that means I'll have something fun coming soon! I can't really share anything from Chapter 4 of Seahorse Dad Henry fic (coming tomorrow) without spoilers, so...

From Daddy Issues/Honey You're Familiar, a long snippet that might get buried on the butt end of WIP Wednesday. If you see this, enjoy!

Alex leans marginally closer to Henry, their shoulders just barely brushing. “Like, as your date?” It’s not that Henry hadn’t expected the question, given that he’d pondered it himself. Maybe he just didn’t think that Alex would actually voice it, though he doesn’t know why. So far, Alex hasn’t been afraid to verbalize his thoughts. “I suppose, in a way,” Henry says carefully. “Of course, it’s not like anyone besides me and you, and I suppose my father and Bea, would actually know. The three of us will be listed as guests of my father.” Alex is momentarily quiet, and it’s slightly out of character, enough so that Henry nervously adds, “Of course, you’re still welcome to attend not-as-my-date, if you’d like. My father invited you.” “What would you like?” Alex asks, voice low as his foot nudges back against Henry’s leg, their height difference stark in the spot where Alex connects with Henry’s ankle. Henry glances over at him, but his eyes are locked on their feet.  After a moment, though, Alex returns his gaze. That’s when Henry answers, voice barely audible. “I’d like you to be my date.”

words wednesday (ignore that it's thursday)

Hello everyone! Thank you for the many tags. I got a migraine yesterday afternoon that only got worse as the day went on (and the brain is still a little soupy), so I missed the posting window. However, my brain also cooked up two new WIPs this week in addition to the two I was already working on, which is insane (I have never actively juggled this many pieces before). I'm excited to share and talk about these, so I am ignoring the date and still sharing.

Serious moment: this snippet is from my new wip featuring Seahorse Dad Henry (wherein trans masc Henry gets pregnant after a one night stand with Alex, fall out ensues). It's actually an incredibly important fic to me (somewhat fueled by spite), because on Twitter I saw a RWRB account make a wish list for men being able to get pregnant — as a dude who can get pregnant myself, it was pretty disheartening to see this trans erasure in a fandom which is supposed to celebrate queerness.

In general there's been a lot of recent mpreg talk without including trans guys in the discussion at all, so even though mpreg's not usually my thing, I've decided to add to the discourse by writing my representation into the narrative blah blah blah.

Enough talking. Here's the rough draft snippet:

Henry’s also honest enough with himself to admit that at least half of his good mood can be traced to the three free drinks bought for him by three different men, the bum squeeze he received a couple songs ago, the hard cock rubbing against his arse right now. He knows it’s a bit vain to revel in other mens’ appreciation of his physical form, but he spent so long feeling uncomfortable in his own skin, listening to people when they said no one would ever be attracted to him, that he can’t help but languish in the feeling of being desired.

Several Sentence Sunday

WOO this is gonna be a big one because I missed Wednesday and I'm late today. Thanks everyone who tagged me!! I've been posting Seahorse Dad Henry aka "Longer Than Most," and I have one chapter left, but I'm not actually going to post that today.

I'm finally back to writing WIP: Daddy Issues (tumblr title, not formal title). This is my big ole canon divergence, swapping Oscar and Arthur's storyline's fic. I've set the arbitrary goal of posting this in April, some I'm hunkering down to write since I'm only about halfway through with 40K words.

Here's a snippet, featuring Alive!Arthur:

“Maybe,” Henry carefully allows. “Alex is really busy, though. He’s pre-med and taking an excessive amount of courses.” “All the more reason for him to step away for an evening,” Arthurs says, voice teasing. “Well, just let him know I’d be delighted to see him again. That should do the trick.” “Dad, what—” “I know I have a nice, arse, Hen. I can’t blame the boy.”
