Words into Potions: March 4th

Goals

1. Add new words to HG every other day

2. Work on world-building for CoF every other day

3. Work on HG or CoF every day

Today was a world-building day. I didn’t get as much accomplished as I did March 2nd. To be fair, I did work for six hours (how?) that day.

This time, I did about three hours before a weird mix of depression and exhaustion hit me. Figuring that was my cue to close shop for the day, I closed my spreadsheets and scrivenerer docs.

Overhauling world-building stuff I already thought was finished is no joke. There’s so much to redo and revise. I made a checklist, but I’m not even sure if everything in need of changes is on it.

But it’s fine. Everything’s fine.

Words into Potions: March 3rd

Goals

1. Add new words to HG every other day

2. Work on world-building for CoF every other day

3. Work on HG or CoF every day

I was able to get words out super late at night / early in the morning after spending a few hours finishing a few world-building tasks from the day before.

A scene for CoF popped into my mind and I just had to write it. In it, the main character’s mother drops her veneer of polished politician’s wife and allows her daughter to see her— her intentions, hopes, and fears. It’s a fragile, bittersweet moment for them both. The more I write of this book, the more I realize that the main character’s relationships with the elders in her life are just as important to her story as her relationship with the love interest.

Anyway, I’m off to sort some more world-building details. I really want these elements to feel alive and intricate, which means lots of work for me. I don’t mind it, though.
